A/N: Well, I am glad Peter's departure was nicer than the one I gave him in my last chapter. This takes place after Peter says goodbye to Olivia.
Now What?
Olivia stood there watching Peter walk away. It happened again. Someone else she had grown to care for left and he said he cared for her too. Now she had to learn to work with yet another ADA. That was not her favorite thing to do. Why did everyone she cared for leave her? She had seen many ADA's come and go but Barba and Peter's departures hurt her the most. She wasn't surprised that none of her romantic relationships had lasted but she still occasionally heard from Brian. She hadn't heard from David or Ed since her relationships with them ended. No one's departure hurt her more than Elliot's. It took her a long time to get over him leaving. She hadn't seen or heard from him since that shooting in the Squad Room. She decided to head back to the Precinct but what was the point anymore? She took her time going back and she really didn't want to be there. Fin, Amanda and Carisi all saw that she looked a little lost.
"You ok, Liv?"
"What difference does it make? Everyone I care about always ends up leaving anyway?"
"What the hell are you talking about?"
"Peter. He left."
"What? Why?"
"He said I became more important to him than the case. He was willing to risk everything for me. I knew Noah had become important to him but I didn't know I had. I started realizing that he was important to me too but not romantically. Every time I start getting too close to someone, either romantically or platonically, something happens and they leave. I have this feeling that I'm going to end up alone."
"What about Voight?"
"What about him?"
"How do you feel about him?"
"I've never really thought about it and honestly I haven't seen or spoken to him since the last time we were in Chicago."
"That is a bunch of bull, Liv! I saw your reaction when Yates was sayin' all that stuff about him. If you didn't feel somethin' for him, you wouldn't have reacted the way you did."
"I second that. What about the way you two were lookin' at each other at the bar after the trial? Where did you and Noah go for Spring Break?"
"Ok, fine! You got me! I have been casually seeing Hank since just after Tucker and I broke up. Actually, we started seeing each other just after we first worked together and he was still a part of my life when I was with Tucker. Right now, we have a friends with benefits thing going on until we decide where we want to go."
"Now we're gettin' somewhere!"
Olivia rolled her eyes and then Hank came in. Olivia hugged him and then he kissed her cheek.
"Hey, Sarge! Long time no see."
"Fin. Good to see you. You too, Rollins and Carisi. How are things going here?"
"Same crap, different day."
"Same with us."
"They know."
"Ok."
"You here to see me or Erin?"
"You. Erin is out of town."
"Lucy took Noah and the girls to her parents' for a few days. After what happened the other day, I decided to keep him out of school for the rest of the week."
"How'd your case go?"
"Even though we really had no evidence, Miller was found guilty. Nikki Staines and Peter framed him."
"That sounds like something I would do."
"Well, apparently Peter had intended to all along and he said I was more important to him that this case was."
"So, then I have a little competition?"
"Not necessarily. He never really admitted that he loved me but he left."
"Where?"
"I have no idea. Even though things didn't start out on the right foot, I cared about him too. Everyone I've cared about up and leaves."
"I'm not goin' anywhere."
"But you live in Chicago and you haven't necessarily admitted that you have actual feelings for me. We've had this friends with benefits thing going on for a while now but I don't know where we actually stand."
"I do have actual feelings for you and have for a while now but I wasn't really sure how to tell you. I didn't want to mess things up between us because of the distance. I think it's time we figured out if this is what we both want or if we just want to continue being friends and doing what we've been doing."
"Honestly, I feel the same way and have for a while. You've been there for me even when I didn't deserve it but you kept me sane with when happened with Noah last year. You also helped me to understand Peter as a person. I definitely want to continue part of what we're doing if you know what I mean."
"I know what you mean. Dinner?"
"Of course."
"Would the three of you like to join us?"
"Sure."
Olivia kissed Hank, went into her office to get her stuff and then the five of them left to go have dinner. When they arrived at the restaurant, they went in and told them how many they had. They waited for a table and then they were seated. They looked at the menu and by the time their server came to take their drink order, they ordered their food as well.
"Rollins, how are things goin' with the two kids?"
"Pretty good, actually. Jesse loves bein' a big sister."
"Are the fathers active in their lives?"
"Billie's is. Jesse's daddy is out of the country working undercover. He has been for a while. If he has time, he will Skype. She knows him but they haven't met face to face. Al, Billie's daddy sees her a couple times a week. He comes over and helps with the bedtime routine for both of them. If we get a call and he's not on call himself, he will come stay with them. If not, I have to take them to Liv's for Lucy to watch them. Once we get into a more normal routine, he'll keep her at his apartment sometimes. Jesse is ok with him but she prefers Carisi and Billie responds to Carisi too. Al had asked us to move in with him and he proposed but I didn't love him, so of course I said no to both. I didn't love Declan either."
"Are you and Carisi involved?"
"No but he's a really good friend and he's stuck with me through a lot, even when I didn't deserve it. Liv and Fin have too. Liv has given me more chances than I deserve."
"We've always been there for each other. You, Fin and Amaro were there for me when I was going through all that crap with Lewis and you know I appreciated everyone's help when Sheila kidnapped Noah. It took me a long time to come to accept things when my partner before Amaro put his papers in and I treated both you and Amaro poorly. Like I said, you were there for me during the lowest point in my life. Amanda, you and I aren't all that different. We both had shitty relationships with our mothers and we're trying to be better mothers to our children than our mothers were to us. There were so many times during that when I felt like giving up. The person I talked to when I was being investigated for abusing Noah, told me that I chose not to give up during my ordeal with Lewis was because of Noah, even though he hadn't become a part of my life yet. If I had given up, I wouldn't have my son. Being a mother was the one thing I wanted the most and I cannot even imagine my life without him. I can't imagine my life without any of you in it."
"Liv, you know I will always have your back."
"Me too."
"Me too."
"You know I will too."
"Liv, I kind of feel like we've bonded more since Jesse was born."
"I think we have too."
Hank took Olivia's hand and held it. Their soups or salads arrived and then they ate those before their meals came to the table. By the time they were done eating, almost everyone was stuffed.
"Damn, that was good! I'm stuffed."
"Me too. I'm gonna sleep tonight mainly because I don't have the girls to deal with."
"I seriously don't think I'm going to sleep. Something tells me that Miller's lawyer is going to appeal and he'll get off anyway. He is going to come after me. I just know it. He said anyone that screws with him never has a happy ending."
"When I'm here, you don't need to worry about that. He messes with you and Noah, he messes with me."
"Except you're not always here. I'm scared, Hank."
"Don't get so worked up about it."
Olivia had tears falling down her cheeks.
"Liv, he's right."
"I think I have some decisions to make."
"What kind of decisions?"
"Like whether or not I'm planning to stay in New York."
"Wait, you're gonna leave?"
"I don't know, Fin."
"Where would you go?"
"Far away from here. Maybe Chicago."
"Olivia, we will talk about that, ok?"
"Ok."
Their server came to see if anyone wanted dessert. The only one that did was Carisi. He told the server what he wanted and then she went to get it. After he ate his dessert, Hank paid the bill and then everyone left. Olivia said she probably wouldn't be in the rest of the week. They said they'd be fine. Fin, Amanda and Carisi thanked Hank for dinner and then they all went home after they hugged Olivia. Hank then drove Olivia home. He arrived at her apartment and then they got out of the car.
"Are you staying?"
"If you want me to."
"I want you too. I need you."
Hank got his suitcase out of the trunk and then into the building. She checked the mail and then they went up to her apartment. Olivia unlocked the door and they went in. Olivia set the mail down on the counter as Hank locked the door and they both took their jackets off. Olivia took her badge off and then locked up her gun. She walked over to Hank and they started kissing. Hank had his hands on her hips as they continued kissing. Hank lifted her up and she wrapped her legs around his waist as he headed toward her bedroom. He shut the door with his foot and then he set Olivia down on the bed as they started undressing each other. Then they made love. Afterwards Olivia had her head on Hank's chest and he had his arm around her as he ran his fingers through her hair.
"I love you."
"I love you too. Did you mean what you said earlier about wanting to come to Chicago?"
"Yes. I don't want to have to fear for my life or my son's life but I don't necessarily want to rush things with us even though I know you'll protect us."
"You know I will. Why don't you and Noah come to Arizona with me for the weekend? I'm going to go see Daniel for his birthday."
"I like that idea. I'll call Lucy in the morning."
"Ok."
Olivia kissed Hank and then they fell asleep in each other's arms. Then next morning, they got up, took a shower and got dressed. Hank went to make arrangements for the flight to Chicago and then he was able to get Olivia and Noah on the flight to Phoenix that he was on. Olivia called Lucy and then she and Hank went to pick Noah up. After she packed for both of them, they drove to New Jersey to get Noah. They arrived at Lucy's parents', got out of the car and went to ring the doorbell. Lucy knew it was them, so she answered the door.
"Hey, Liv. Hey, Hank."
"Hey, Lucy."
"He's all excited now."
"Good."
"Jesse on the other hand is not happy that Noah is leaving."
Olivia could hear Jesse crying in the other room, so she went to see her.
"Hey, Miss Jesse."
"I don't want Noah to go. I will miss him."
"You need to help your mom with your sister. After we get back, you can sleepover with us, ok?"
"K. I love you, Auntie."
"I love you too, Sweetie."
Jesse hugged Olivia and then she hugged Hank. Lucy's parents came in with Noah and Jesse hugged him. Lucy introduced Hank and Olivia to her parents and then after Noah thanked everyone, they left. Hank then drove to LaGuardia, while Olivia called Amanda to tell her about Jesse and then she was going to be in Arizona with Hank and Noah. Olivia ended up telling Noah that she and Hank were going to try to be in a relationship and about Peter leaving, which Noah was a little upset about Peter not saying goodbye to him, since he had been working with him on his baseball skills. When they arrived, they returned the car and then went to the airport. They checked in and waited for the flight to Chicago. The flight to Phoenix wasn't until later that evening, so Hank drove home, grabbed something for lunch and then they stopped at the District.
"I'm going to tell my squad about us."
"Ok."
They got out of his SUV and went in.
"Hey, Hank."
"Hey, Trudy."
"Olivia and Noah, how are you?"
"Not bad. How are you?"
"I can't complain."
"Good."
"I came to tell the squad, so I'll tell you too, Olivia and I are going to try to be in a relationship."
"It's about damn time, Hank!"
Hank, Olivia and Noah headed upstairs. Hank put his code in and then they continued the rest of the way up.
"Hey, Boss."
"Hey."
"Hey, Lieutenant. Hey, Noah."
"Hey."
"Hi."
"That was a quick trip."
"I convinced Olivia and Noah to go to Phoenix with me for Daniel's birthday and I want you to know that we are going to try to be in a relationship."
"That's great, Boss! Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
"It's about time!"
"Thanks for tellin' us."
"You're welcome. Normally it wouldn't be any of your business but I will probably be gone quite a bit."
"Ok. Did you happen to see Erin while you were in New York?"
"She's out of town. She said she was going to try to get to Phoenix though but it wasn't definite."
"Ok."
"Lieutenant, Sarge said that you had crazy some case you were working on."
Olivia filled them in on the case and what had happened with Peter.
"Dang! I always liked Stone."
"Me too."
"Same here."
"I liked working for him but unfortunately, it didn't work out. I'm glad I was able to get my job back here after Erin left."
"I didn't like him at first but we soon established a friendship. He helped Noah with his baseball skills, which I really appreciated."
"He left because he had feelings for you?"
"He told me that I meant more to him than the case did. He was blinded by that and he couldn't let that happen again. I think I actually cared for him more than I was willing to admit at times but the only person that really has my heart is Hank. My feelings for Hank have been there for a while and I was afraid to admit it."
"I told you the same thing. I want this to work."
"Me too."
Hank kissed Olivia and then he went to see what was on his desk. Everyone talked for a while and then Hank, Olivia and Noah left. They went to his house for a while and then he drove back to the airport. They parked the car, got checked in and waited for the flight to Phoenix.
