Payback Time
Sylvie had really thought she was happy after Kyle proposed but now, she wasn't so sure. She was bored being back in Fowlerton and Kyle had basically told her that whether she worked or not was her choice but she had a feeling that he preferred that she stayed home. She wasn't thrilled to be back in the same town as Hope Jacquinot, especially after what she pulled at 51. She missed Chicago and her Fire Station 51 family terribly. She Face Timed with them whenever she had the chance.
Several weeks had gone by and no one from 51 had heard from her. Foster had had enough of Collins and told him he was done. She could not work with him any longer. She and Kidd decided to take a drive to Fowlerton and bring Sylvie back to Chicago where she belonged. They arrived at the house and knocked on the door. No one answered. They drove to the Fire Station, where Sylvie was supposed to be working and went in.
"What can we do for you ladies?"
"Is Sylvie Brett here?"
"We haven't seen her around in about a week."
"Thanks."
They walked back to Stella's Jeep and then she saw Hope.
"Hey, Hope!"
"Oh, hey."
"Have you seen Sylvie anywhere?"
"Nope."
"Ok."
They got into the Jeep and drove around. From their girls' weekend, they remembered where Sylvie's parents lived but they hadn't seen her either. Hope immediately called Kyle and told him that friends of Sylvie's were nosing around town. Emily called Chief Boden.
"What's goin' on, Foster?"
"Kidd and I drove to Fowlerton to see if we could talk Brett into coming home where she belongs and there is no sign of her."
"Did you talk to Chaplain Sheffield?"
"No one has seen him lately, including Brett's parents. We saw Hope something or another and she hadn't seen her. Kidd seemed to know her."
"She worked at 51 for a short time and tried to have Kidd transferred and stole her paycheck."
"She seemed uneasy around Kidd."
"Hope also had a thing for Severide."
"We're worried, Chief."
"How long has it been since anyone has seen her?"
"About a week, according to the people at the Fire Station. I know this is a little out of our jurisdiction though."
"I'll call Voight and see if he has any ideas."
"Ok. Thanks, Chief."
Emily hung up.
"He's going to talk to Voight and see if he has any ideas."
"Ok."
"So, this Hope person tried screwing you over?"
"Yeah. In more ways than one. She wanted Kelly, so she wanted be out of the way. She's a vindictive bitch."
"It's obvious he loves you though."
"He has settled down quite a bit. Let's sit near the house and see if we can find out anything."
"Good idea."
Stella drove back to Sylvie's house and parked nearby, so they had a view of it. Meanwhile in Chicago, Boden had gone over to the District.
"Hey, Chief."
"Sergeant Platt. Is Sergeant Voight here?"
"He is."
Trudy took Chief Boden up to Intelligence.
"Hey, Chief."
"Hey."
Trudy went back downstairs and Boden went to Hank's office. The door was closed, so he knocked.
"Yeah. Come on in."
Wallace opened the door and walked in. Hank was sitting on the sofa with his arm around Olivia.
"I need your help with something."
"Sure. Have a seat."
Hank got up and went to sit at his desk, while Wallace sat next to Olivia.
"Kidd and Foster went to Fowlerton to see if they could get Brett to come back to Chicago. Foster and her new partner didn't get along and Brett seems bored. She moved back there with Chaplain Sheffield after they got engaged. The Fire Station Brett was supposed to be working at hasn't seen her in about a week and no one has seen Chaplain Sheffield in about that same length of time. It's been a few weeks since any of us have heard from her."
"We'll see what we can do."
Hank got up and went out to the Bullpen.
"Can someone ping Sylvie Brett's cell phone?"
"Yeah, sure."
Wallace gave them her number and then Kevin tried to ping it.
"Nothin'. Phone must be off."
"See what you can find on Kyle Sheffield."
"The Chaplain?"
"Yeah. He hasn't been seen in a couple days. Who else?"
"Hope Jacquinot. Hope did some stuff when she worked at 51 a couple years back and we told her if she didn't leave Chicago, we would go to the police. Sylvie told her that she didn't want to be associated with her anymore because of that."
Wallace ended up telling them everything that had happened.
"We'll start with her first."
Kevin pulled up any info he could get on Hope Jacquinot and showed it to Hank.
"Let's take a ride to Fowlerton."
"I'll get my people together and we'll go too."
"Ok."
Boden called his group and then everyone headed to Fowlerton. Hank contacted the Fowlerton PD and told them what was going on. He said that Sylvie was someone he knew from Chicago and her friends hadn't heard from her in several weeks. The house that Kyle had purchased when they moved there had a bunker in it and that was where they were hiding Sylvie. She hadn't eaten in over a week and she was chained up.
"I have a feeling that someone is going to be watching the house. As soon as it gets dark, we need to move out."
"The sooner she's dead, the better. If it wasn't for her, I would still be working in Chicago. Couldn't we just leave her here to die, while we run off together?"
"We'll be together. Don't worry about it."
Kyle kissed Hope and then they headed to the bedroom to have sex. Boden had texted Stella and Emily to tell them they were all headed to Fowlerton, along with Intelligence and Voight had contacted the local police. The two of them hadn't seen any movement in the house, so they decided to investigate. They found a door going to the lower level. They checked the lock and were able to get in. It was really hot in there.
"Damn, it's hot in here."
"No kidding."
"Check out this door. I wonder where it goes."
They heard the basement door being unlocked, so they went to hide. Stella had her phone, so she started taking a video of what was going on. Kyle had gone into the bunker, while Hope stayed in the basement area and had a smirk on her face the entire time. Kyle came out of the bunker and locked the door tightly.
"As soon as it gets dark, we'll take her out and move to our next location."
"I hope we don't get caught."
"We won't. No one will ever remember Sylvie Brett existed and you and I will be married and living far away from Fowlerton and Chicago. You trust me, don't you?"
"You know I do."
They kissed again and then they went back up to the bedroom.
"I thought they called the police."
"That's what Boden's message said."
"It's not our fault they left the door unlocked, right"
"Damn right! We need to get into that room and rescue Brett ourselves. By the time the others get here, it could be too late. I should send the video to Boden, so we have proof of what they're doing in case something happens."
"Good idea."
Stella sent the video to Boden and then she and Emily went out to Stella's Jeep to get the lock cutter and whatever else they thought they would need. By the time they got back, they noticed that the door was shut and locked.
"Damn it! Go back to the Jeep!"
They went back to the Jeep and waited. A police car pulled up.
"Uh oh!"
The cop got out of the car and walked up to Stella's Jeep.
"Good afternoon, Officer."
"Actually, it's Sergeant. Are you Stella Kidd and Emily Foster?"
"Yes."
"Hank Voight from Chicago PD contacted us about Sylvie Brett and said the two of you contacted your boss."
"Yeah, we did."
"Have you noticed anything?"
"From here, no. We were able to get in to the basement from outside. She's being held in some kind of room that is chained. They came down there and we hid but I was able to get a video."
Stella showed the cop the video on her phone.
"We were going to try to help her ourselves but by the time we got the lock cutters and the other stuff we needed, the door was shut and locked. I'm a Firefighter and Foster is a Paramedic."
"I would expect this from Hope Jacquinot but the guy is a Chaplain, so I would have expected better from him. We've all known Sylvie for a very long time."
The group from Chicago arrived and pulled up near the house.
"Sergeant Voight?"
"Yeah. You're Sergeant Baldwin?"
"I am."
"This is Captain Olivia Benson from the NYPD Special Victims Unit."
"Ma'am. I was just talking with Kidd and Foster here."
"Chief, I sent you a video."
"I saw that. Thanks."
"No problem. Did you show it to Voight?"
"Not yet."
Stella showed the video to Hank, Olivia and the rest of Intelligence.
"Hank, we can't be sure he's not raping her."
"You wanna take charge of this from our group?"
"If you don't mind. I deal with this every day."
"I don't mind."
"Thank you."
"Yep."
"How did you two get the video?"
"We got into the house to through the outside door going into the basement. We came back out here to get the lock cutters and some other supplies but by the time we got back, the door was locked. When they came down, we hid."
More police officers and the fire department arrived and they had the streets near the house shut down. Sylvie's parents had even shown up. Everyone put their vests on and went to search the main part of the house.
"There's no one here."
"The room."
They went down to the basement and then all the Chicago firefighters had come in with whatever tools they had. Along with the firefighters from Fowlerton, they worked on getting the door to the bunker open.
"Damn!"
"Halstead, Upton, get the rifles."
Jay and Hailey went to get the rifles and then they came back in. They shot at the lock but it still wouldn't budge.
"Casey, do you have any of your power tools with you?"
"Yeah."
They went out to Matt's truck and got his power saw and used it on the door. Joe had his slamigan with him, so he used it to try to pry the door open.
"I think we got something."
"Good job, Cruz!"
After finally getting the door pried open, they went in. They went down some stairs and came to another door. They used the rifles and the slamigan again and were able to get the door open. As soon as they opened the door, they saw Sylvie chained up.
"Sylvie!"
They cut the chains and got her untied. She was very weak. Severide picked her up and carried her out to the Ambo. Emily rode with Sylvie to the hospital. Hank, his squad and the officers from Fowlerton looked around for Kyle and Hope. They found them in another room.
"So, you found us."
They were both cuffed and taken out to the cars before they were hauled off to jail. Everyone headed to the hospital. Once they were there, Olivia talked to Sylvie and she agreed to do a rape kit but she didn't think Kyle had raped her. One of the rookie female officers from Fowlerton was in with them, so she could see what went on and she and Olivia both asked her some questions. Sylvie had been hooked up to IV's to get some fluids in her to get her rehydrated and then after a while, they would give her some real food. Stella and Emily had come into the room.
"You ok?"
"I am now. Thank you for everything you two did."
"You're welcome. We came here to bring you back to Chicago with us."
"I plan on coming home to Chicago eventually. I need to get my strength back, so I think I am going to stay with my parents and then hopefully, Chief Boden will allow me to come back."
"I told my temporary partner to get lost. I couldn't stand him. I need you back."
"I was ready to come back and all of a sudden, Kyle turned on me. I think this was all Hope's doing though. She blames me for her losing her job at 51. She deserved it because of what she did to you."
"She'll get hers."
Kelly came into the room, put his arm around Stella and kissed her cheek.
"Hey, Babe."
"Hey. How are you feeling, Brett?"
"Much better. Thanks."
Everyone else came in to see Sylvie and then they went to get a hotel room for the night before heading back to Chicago. Stella and Emily came back whenever they could and mostly everyone came back when Sylvie had to testify in court. Both Kyle and Hope ended up having to spend time in prison for what they did.
