A/N: This is a request from WritersBlock039 and it is based on Episode 3 of Season 8 of Chicago Fire. For this, Hank and Olivia are married but she still goes by Benson professionally. Olivia is running Intelligence but only goes to a scene if it involves a sexual assault and she was still promoted to Captain. I don't own any of the characters.

Note to Guest Reviewer (Anna): Chapter 129 (Infection) was based on the crossover.

Badlands

As soon as Sylvie and Emily had responded to the call at the Cook County Juvenile Center, they knew something wasn't right. They both suspected that Isaac was being abused but really had no proof. They weren't sure what to do. Should they report it and risk having it happen again or ignore it and risk having it happen again? Either way, they both had a feeling that it would happen again.

"What do we do?"

"I don't know. It's going to happen again no matter what we do because he will be released from the hospital and probably end up back there within a few days."

"You're absolutely right. Maybe we should try talking to Isaac first."

"Yeah, maybe but he probably won't say much."

"True. We'll tell Boden that we want to check on Isaac because we told him we would."

"Let's give it a little time."

"Sounds like a plan."

Sylvie and Emily waited a while and then they went to check on Isaac. The only thing they were able to get out of him about what had happened was that he had recently been moved to the Badlands from the west wing. Neither of them knew exactly what that meant. Once they returned to the Firehouse, they went to talk to Chief Boden.

"Chief, you got a minute?"

"Of course. Come on in."

They walked in and shut the door.

"Something wasn't quite right with that call we had at the Juvenile Center earlier."

"Meaning?"

"We're suspecting abuse."

"Did the victim admit to it?"

"No but there was something about the guard we didn't trust. When we got there, he said the nurses had the situation under control but the nurses were the ones that called us in the first place. Then a guard had to accompany us to the hospital because it was protocol. Isaac did say that he was recently transferred from the west wing to the Badlands. We're not sure what that means."

"I would suggest going over to the 21st and have them look into it."

"So, like Voight?"

"Or Benson. I think she's pretty much only handling sexual assault cases but that will be a place to start. You could probably talk to anyone in Intelligence. Just take your radio."

"Ok. Thanks, Chief."

"Yep."

Sylvie and Emily left Boden's office, got in the Ambo and went over to the 21st. They got out and went inside.

"What's going on, you two? Is McHolland giving you trouble?"

"No, not at all. Is anyone from Intelligence here?"

"Benson is but she is talking with someone from Social Services. I'll take you up."

They headed up the stairs and Trudy put her code in. They headed up the rest of the way. Olivia was in the office with Ryan Pace from Social Services.

"They need to talk to you for a minute."

"Sure. Come on in."

"We didn't mean to interrupt."

"No problem. This is Ryan Pace from Social Services. Ryan, this is Paramedic-in-Charge Sylvie Brett and Paramedic Emily Foster from CFD Station 51."

"Nice to meet you."

"You too. Were you the paramedics that responded to the Juvenile Center today?"

"Yeah. That's why we're here."

"I've worked with Isaac and he never should have been locked up in the first place. It was a weapons charge but it's not like he committed a crime with the weapon. It was more because he had the weapon in his possession. He's not a violent criminal, like a lot of the inmates are."

"Something didn't seem right to us about that call. The only thing Isaac said to us about what happened was that he had recently been moved from the west wing to the Badlands. What does that even mean?"

"They put the inmates by where they are from because most of them have a gang affiliation. Isaac doesn't. The west wing is the west side and the Badlands is the south side. That is the worst section to be in."

"Why would they move him there though?"

"Good question but that probably explains why he was beaten so badly."

"We just have this feeling that he will be released from the hospital, put back in the Badlands and beaten again or worse, killed. Something wasn't right with that guard, Houghton. He gave us such a hard time when we got there."

"That's him though."

Hank and the rest of the team came back and Sylvie and Emily told them everything they told Olivia and Ryan, along with everything that had happened from the time they arrived at the Juvenile Center. In the meantime, they had gotten a call that they had to respond to.

"Excuse us. We need to go. Thank you for your time, Olivia."

"Any time. I'll see what we can do to look into this."

Sylvie and Emily left and headed to their call.

"I think they have every right to be suspicious."

"I think so too."

"What's that guard's name?"

"Mike Houghton."

"Someone look him up and look up Isaac Davis as well."

"On it."

"I'll go back to my office and see what I can come up with to help with this."

"Thanks, Ryan."

"Sure."

Ryan left and Kevin looked up Houghton.

"Nothing comes up. It says he's gotten commendations but no criminal record comes up."

"Isaac Davis was arrested on a weapon's charge but the crime was that he had the weapon in his possession. No crime was committed with the weapon."

"That's what Ryan said. Is it possible that they are hiding something at the Juvenile Center? They could change their records to make someone look better than they really are."

"Good point. We can look into it more and see what we come up with."

"What happened with the case you were working on?"

"We found the suspect dead. Gunshot wound to the head."

"Self-inflicted?"

"More than likely. We can focus on this until something else comes up."

They got whatever information they could on Isaac, the guard and the facility in general to see what they could come up with. Ryan had contacted Olivia with the mother's name and their address. She called Sylvie and Emily and said she and Hank were going to talk to the mother tomorrow and wanted to know if they wanted to come with them. They said they did and their shift was over anyway. Olivia said she would let them know what time.

The next day arrived and Olivia let Sylvie and Emily know when they were going and what the address was. They said they would meet them there. Hank pulled up in his SUV and Sylvie and Emily pulled up in Sylvie's at about the same time. They all got out of their respective vehicles.

"Thank you for meeting us."

"No problem."

They all walked up to the door and Olivia knocked.

"May I help you?"

"Ms. Davis, I'm Captain Benson and this is Sergeant Voight. We're from the Intelligence Unit of the Chicago Police Department and these two are Paramedics Sylvie Brett and Emily Foster from the CFD. We would like to talk to you about your son Isaac."

"Is everything ok?"

"Yes, other than he was severely beaten yesterday and we have reason to believe that the one of guards at the facility may be the one doing it."

"What do you want me to do about it?"

"You're not concerned that your son was beaten?"

"The moment he was arrested, I told him he was on his own. Excuse me. I need to get to work because I have my other children to care for."

Ms. Davis practically slammed the door in their faces.

"Well, obviously she doesn't care."

"No wonder Ryan is working with him."

"What do we do now?"

"Let's go see if Isaac will talk to us."

The 4 of them headed to the hospital where Isaac had been taken the day before and went up to his room. When they got there, he wasn't there.

"Where is Isaac Davis?"

"He was released and taken back to the Juvenile Center."

"Thank you."

They left, went back out to their vehicles and in the meantime, Olivia had gotten a call from Ryan. They went to Ryan's office and when they got there, Ryan said saw Isaac and he said he wanted to file charges against Houghton. The 5 of them went to the Juvenile Center and went in to see the Warden.

"May I help you?"

"We are here to arrest Officer Houghton for abuse and assault."

"Officer Houghton is one of our best guards."

"Apparently, he's abusing and assaulting inmates."

"Who is filing the charges?"

"Isaac Davis."

"Oh. We'll get to the bottom of this."

They were taken to a room and then were told that they would get Isaac. They brought Isaac in and then Officer Houghton came in as well.

"Officer Houghton should be here to defend himself against these allegations, don't you think?"

"He filed charges against me for what?"

"Abuse and assault."

"I never hit anyone."

"I didn't file any charges. Honest."

Houghton tried going after Isaac but Hank grabbed him and put him in cuffs as the other guards dragged Isaac back. Once Hank and Olivia took Houghton out with Sylvie and Emily behind them, other inmates shouted that he had done things to them too. Ryan asked if he could check on Isaac. They had Houghton booked and then Ryan came over to the District. Trudy took him up to Intelligence.

"Isaac finally calmed down."

"Good."

"He's relieved that Houghton won't hurt him again but he's just afraid that the other guards will start."

"I sent Hank back over there to talk with Isaac and then he'll go talk to the Judge and see if maybe the charges against him can be dropped or possibly just have him on house arrest."

"He just wants to make things right. I did tell him what happened with his mother when we went to see her yesterday and he said he wasn't surprised. He deserved to have her upset with him. He just wants to do right by her and his siblings."

"I feel for his mother because until I married Hank, I was a single mother and it isn't easy. Noah is 7 and adopted but sometimes I worry that he may go down the wrong path in life. His mother was a prostitute and a heroin addict. His father was a rapist, pimp and a sex trafficker. I found Noah sleeping in a dresser drawer as a baby and then once we found out who his mother was, I told her that if she wanted to see her son again, she needed to be clean. She tried so hard but the night before she was supposed to testify, she went looking for a fix and ended up being gang raped and burned to death. At one of his hearings, the Judge was about to put him in State custody but then asked me if I would be interested in fostering him. I was so thrilled because I wanted to be a mother more than anything but that door had already closed for me because of my age. After we made an arrest, the DNA from our perp was a match to Noah and it turned out his was his father. My friend, who was the ADA, told me not to say anything because then I would more than likely have to take Noah to see him in prison until he turned 18 but lying never worked well for me. I told my adoption lawyer that we found out who Noah's father was and this came up just before his trial. He tried using Noah as a pawn and wanted custody of his son. I don't even want to think about how he would have screwed that little boy up. She started shooting in the courtroom and then left the room. One of my Detectives at the time shot and killed him, so that was one less thing I had to worry about. After that, Noah was my son. I've had some issues with him a couple years ago. I pulled him out of the way after he was almost hit by a taxi, which left a bruise on his arm. He told his teacher that I gave him the bruise, which led me to being investigated for child abuse. He neglected to tell her the entire story. The charges were dropped but then Noah's biological grandmother came into the picture. At first, she wanted to vacate the adoption but then she said she didn't want to take him out of the only home he has ever known. She then kidnapped him. I'm telling you that if it wasn't for Hank, I would not have gotten through that."

"Either of those situations is tough and I have dealt with both many times in my line of work. You do the best you can and even then, sometimes it isn't good enough. He sounds like a great kid though."

"He really is. I've never been great in relationships but I really lucked out with Hank. We've known each other for almost 5 years because we had worked together before but at the time, neither of us could admit that we felt something for each other. My last relationship ended in January of 2017 and Hank and I started seeing each other that summer. We got married almost exactly two years after we got together. The two boyfriends I had prior to Hank both worked for the NYPD and neither relationship was ever disclosed. I didn't want to make that mistake with Hank. I wanted to stick with doing what I was doing in New York but CPD wasn't about to start a new Unit just for me, so the higher ups said I could be in Intelligence with Hank. They told us they didn't have a problem with us being married and working in the same Unit. It's worked so far."

"It's good that you two can work together though. A lot of couples can't."

"It was his choice to have me running the Unit. He's very active in Noah's activities and I'm trying to be too. He was playing baseball but he recently told us that baseball was boring and he wanted to dance. I didn't think Hank was going to be too thrilled that Noah wanted to dance but he said Noah should be happy with whatever he's doing, so we put him in a dance class. He's actually quite good."

"I'm glad he found something he likes. I always encourage any of the kids I work with to follow their dreams, even if it goes against the norm. I should get back."

"Thanks for all your help."

"You too."

Ryan left and then Olivia finished some paperwork. A little bit later, Hank came back and sat on the sofa.

"The Judge will make a decision by the end of the week."

"Fair enough, I guess. Ryan just left."

"I saw him and told him. He said he'd let Isaac know."

"Ok."

Olivia got up and joined Hank on the sofa, so he put his arm around her.

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"Everything."

Olivia kissed Hank.

"I love you."

"I love you too. Maybe we should think about leaving early and going home for a while before we have to go pick our son up at school. We need some Mom and Dad time."

"I love that idea."

Hank got up and helped Olivia up. She got her stuff and then they headed out. Everyone else was in the Bullpen.

"We're leaving. Jay, you're in charge for the rest of the day."

"Got it."

Olivia took Hank's hand and then they left. Hank drove home and then they went up to their bedroom to make love before they had to pick Noah up at school. Once they picked Noah up, they enjoyed a quiet evening at home as a family.
