Missing Each Other

Being in a long distance relationship was tough and they knew it was going to be when they decided to get into a relationship. Hank and Olivia hadn't seen each other since Christmas. They talked whenever they could but they both got busy. Olivia had called Hank and they had talked for hours after Ed committed suicide.

Olivia wanted to surprise Hank for Valentine's Day. Lucy was more than happy to stay with Noah for the weekend and Fin was fine with taking over for a few days. As soon as Olivia left the Precinct and said goodbye to Noah, Olivia headed to the airport for her flight to Chicago. She called Trudy to have her come get her but she didn't want Hank to know she was coming. By the time she arrived in Chicago, she got her luggage and went outside.

"Hey, Trudy. Thank you so much for coming to get me."

"No problem. Any time. You know that. How are you?"

"Honestly, I have no idea. First my brother overdosed and then my ex took his own life because of his terminal disease. I can't lose someone else I care about."

"I don't think you have to worry about Hank. He's as stubborn as ever."

"I'm beginning to understand what he went through when he lost Camille, then Justin and later Al. Is he at home?"

"No. He's still at the District. Right around the time I left, they got a case."

"Keep me posted as to when they might be done."

"I will."

"Thanks for picking me up."

"No problem."

Trudy dropped Olivia off at Hank's and went home. As soon as Trudy heard Intelligence was heading back to the District and booking their suspect, she let Olivia know. Olivia then ran the water in the tub for a bubble bath. She knew Hank always took a shower when he got home after a long day on the job. Hank arrived at home and walked into the house. Right away he could smell Olivia's perfume. He smirked and headed upstairs after he took off his jacket and boots. He went into the bathroom and Olivia was relaxing with her eyes closed.

"Hey there, Gorgeous."

"Hey yourself, Sexy."

Hank got undressed and joined Olivia in the tub. She leaned back into him and he wrapped his arms around her. Then she laced her fingers through his.

"I've missed you."

"I've missed you too. How long are you here?"

"Until Sunday afternoon. I left Noah with Lucy and Fin is in charge of Amanda and Kat. I needed to spend Valentine's Day with you. Noah sends his love."

"I think we need to arrange to see each other more often than we do."

"You're right about that."

"You doing ok after what happened with Tucker?"

"It's been hard losing him and I'm even having a hard time with the loss of my brother. I don't want to lose anyone else I care about."

"I'm not going anywhere. I am so sorry about last weekend. Things got so crazy here and I couldn't just up and leave the squad."

"It's ok. I told you I heard from Barba, didn't I?"

"Yeah, you did. I told you about Burgess losing the baby, right?"

"Yeah, you did. How are they handling it?"

"About as good as can be expected. Ruzek has been kind of quiet though but he's trying to support Kim through all this. I kind of think he blames himself because if he had gotten there sooner, she wouldn't have gone in. She just tried doing too much even though she was on light duty."

"I've had to deal with that with Amanda a couple times."

"Was your birthday ok?"

"It was ok. I would rather have spent it with you."

"I'll make it up to you this weekend. I promise."

Olivia had tears running down her cheeks.

"Hey, what's with the tears? I didn't mean to make you cry."

"It's not you. I've been a mixed bag of emotions lately. I hadn't seen or talked to Ed since we split but his death hit me hard."

"He was a part of your life and you cared about him. Just because you were no longer together, it doesn't mean you didn't still care about the guy. If anyone gets that, I do. When they tell you you have so much time to live, it's hard for anyone to cope with. How's Noah handling it?"

"He seems to be doing ok. When I first told him, he was upset but he's really a strong kid. Usually I'm the one comforting him when he's sad but lately he's been comforting me. I wish you had been there to comfort me."

"Babe, I know. We'll figure this out. Ok?"

"Yeah."

Hank kissed Olivia's cheek and then they relaxed a while longer. They both washed each other and after Olivia got out of the tub, Hank washed his hair. Olivia went into the bedroom wrapped in a towel and then Hank came into the bedroom in a towel as well. They got on the bed, removed each other's towels and made love. Afterwards Hank had his arms wrapped around her and she had her head on his chest.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Are we ever going to be together all the time?"

"I've been thinking about it a lot lately."

"You have?"

"Yeah. Halstead knows that the unit will be his to run someday."

"You'd leave Chicago for me?"

"I'm not expecting you to leave New York. You have a lot more responsibility with your job than I do with mine anyway. Sure I have my memories of Camille and Justin here but I do want to make new memories with you and Noah."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome. We'll figure it out."

"I know we will."

They started kissing again and then Olivia got up, grabbed a shirt of Hank's and went to finish getting ready for bed, while Hank got out of bed and put on some pajama pants. Once Olivia came out of the bathroom, Hank went in to finish getting ready for bed and then he joined Olivia in bed. They kissed each other goodnight and then they fell asleep in each other's arms.

The next morning, Hank woke up, kissed Olivia's forehead, got out of bed, went into the bathroom and then went downstairs to make breakfast for himself and Olivia. Olivia was still sound asleep. By the time he was done making breakfast, he took everything upstairs. He kissed Olivia to wake her up.

"Good morning, Beautiful! Happy Valentine's Day!"

"Happy Valentine's Day to you too."

Hank kissed Olivia and then he set the tray down. There was a small box on the tray.

"What's this?"

"Open it and find out."

Olivia opened the small box and could not believe what she was seeing.

"Oh, Hank, it's beautiful."

Hank then sat down on the bed and took the contents out of the box.

"Will you marry me?"

"Oh, yeah!"

Hank put the ring on her finger and then they kissed. They ate breakfast and then after breakfast, they made love. Then they got ready for the day. They stopped over at the District to check on the squad and then they ended up going grocery shopping, so Hank could make dinner for them instead of trying to make reservations somewhere. They had a romantic dinner at home and then they got ready for bed. They watched a romantic movie together, while they snuggled under a blanket.

"Thanks for today."

"You're welcome. If I had known you were coming, I could have made reservations for us somewhere."

"Dinner was perfect. I would much rather have a nice quiet night in than go out for Valentine's Day anyway. I love that you spoil me."

"I plan on spoiling you even more once we're married."

"Good. I love you so much."

"I love you too."

They kissed again and finished watching the movie. Once the movie was over, they went up to bed. The rest of the weekend went by quickly but they spent as much time together as they could. As much as they both loved Noah, they were glad to have a few days alone without him. On Sunday afternoon, Hank took Olivia to the airport. When they arrived at the terminal, Hank parked and got her suitcase for her.

"I'll try to come to see you and Noah at the end of the week."

"Ok. I'll let you know what Noah says about us being engaged."

"I'm sure he'll be happy about it."

"I'm sure he will. Once we tell our family, then we can tell our respective squads."

"Are you going to call Erin or should I?"

"Maybe we could tell her together."

"That works. I want to schedule a trip to Arizona to visit Olive and Daniel."

"Let me know when and I'll put in for the time off. Maybe you could do it when Noah is off for Spring Break."

"That's what I was thinking about doing."

"I love you."

"I love you too. Give my love to Noah."

"I will."

Olivia kissed Hank and then she headed in to get checked in before heading through security and then to the gate, while Hank headed home. This had been one of the best visits Olivia had had to Chicago in a long time but she missed Noah a lot. This had also been one of the best Valentine's Days she had celebrated in a long time. She sat at the gate and admired her engagement ring. She couldn't wait to get home and tell Noah their big news.
