A/N: This is the second part of the last chapter titled "New Friends". I don't own any of the characters except my own.
Hitting It Off
The next day, everyone got up for the day. Olivia got ready for work, while Noah got ready for school and Hank fixed breakfast for them. After they both kissed Hank, Olivia left to take Noah to school and then she headed for the Precinct. Olive had texted Hank to tell her that their flight was about to take off and he replied back saying that he would pick them up. He was looking forward to seeing Olive and Daniel, since he hadn't seen them since Christmas. He was hoping to be able to see Erin, while he was in town but she was away on an assignment. Hank had a key for Erin's apartment and Erin had spoken with Olive and told her that she and Daniel could stay at her apartment while they were in town. Hank kept checking the status of the flight and when it got closer to the time it arrived, he drove to LaGuardia. He found a place to park and then he went to Baggage Claim to wait for them. He saw that the flight had already landed. He waited in the same place Olivia usually waited for him. They found him right away.
"Papa!"
"Hey, you!"
Daniel ran over and gave Hank a hug.
"I missed you, Papa."
"I missed you too."
Then Olive hugged Hank.
"Hey, Hank."
"Hey. How was the flight?"
"Not too bad. He slept most of the flight, so he will probably be on full energy for the rest of the day. Of course I did get him up pretty early. Stay here with Papa, while I go get our stuff."
"Ok."
Olive went to wait for their stuff.
"Papa, when can we go see Olivia?"
"Let me see if she's at the Precinct."
Hank texted Olivia asking her if the as at the Precinct. She said she was. Olive came back with the stuff. Hank took Daniel's seat and his hand and they walked to the car. Hank put Daniel's seat in and then put him in it. He put the luggage in and then he and Olive got in. Then he drove to the Precinct.
"I have Erin's key if you want it."
"I decided to get a hotel room. He wants to be able to swim."
"That works."
"It's the same one we stayed at before."
"Ok. Olivia and I were talking about your living situation if you take this job. We are going to look for a bigger place, like a condo or a townhouse near where she is now, so Noah doesn't have to switch schools but if you wanted to, you could move in with us. I would be great to have the boys at the same school."
"Yeah, it would be great. Are you sure though?"
"Yeah."
"Maybe a change of scenery will be good for me."
"You mean as far as any new potential relationships?"
"Yeah. I want him to always know about his daddy and that's why we go to the cemetery whenever we are in Chicago and we still have pictures of him around the house but I also want him to have a male influence in his life besides you."
"There is someone Olivia and I want you to meet. He's divorced and he has a daughter Noah's age. In fact, she is in his class at school as well as his dance class. Yesterday was the first time she met him and he actually tried asking her out."
"Oops! Are you ok with that?"
"Yeah. I trust her and Peter Stone ended up telling her he had feelings for her as well even though he knew we were together. I appreciate him teaching Noah more about baseball."
"What's this guy's name?"
"Jason and he's a Physical Therapist. He's a nice guy. After dance class yesterday, we all went out for pizza. We haven't decided when yet but we invited them over for dinner next week."
"I will meet him. It would be nice to know someone besides Olivia and Erin if I move here."
"I'm planning to retire and move here too."
"Does that mean you and Olivia finally set a date for the wedding?"
"No. I just want to do the Courthouse with the family and her squad and have a party with everyone else later. Noah agrees with me. He thinks we should just get it over with. He said if we love each other, it shouldn't really matter how we get married. There is really no one I want to ask to stand up for me. I had always hoped I'd have Justin or Al standing next to me but now they are both gone and Antonio is in Puerto Rico. It's not like I'm that close to Jay and my only other options would be Ruzek and Atwater. Olivia said I should ask Noah, since Daniel would be the Ring Bearer."
"What about Fin?"
"I'd ask him to be in the wedding but not necessarily as my Best Man. Olivia already knows she wants you, Erin, Amanda Rollins and Melinda Warner. I don't know what I want to do. All I want is to be married to her."
"Do you think Antonio would come back for the wedding?"
"I haven't talked to him in a while but Gabby was in town a few months back and she reached out to me to thank me for my help with getting him into rehab. He's doing better but he's not sure he wants to face everyone because of what happened, not just with his drug addiction but because he killed that guy because of his problem. That's basically the reason he left after he got out of rehab. I have a feeling that when I retire, they won't miss me. They all blame me for what happened to Al. It's not like I asked for it to happen but I didn't do anything to stop it either. Halstead finally gave up on blaming me for Erin leaving Chicago and we've been getting a long a little better since his dad died. He knows that the unit will be his to run someday, since he has seniority over everyone else. After I told Olivia that you were considering taking a job here, I told her that I was planning to retire and move here too. My choice has absolutely nothing to do with you though. I know I need to be where my family. Your sister is ok with you leaving?"
"Yeah. The only think I don't like about Arizona is how hot it gets in the summer. It's nice not to have to deal with winter but I told her that if I take the job, which I probably will, we'll come visit and she can come visit us too. She knows it's important for Daniel to have a relationship with you."
They arrived at the Precinct and went up. Olivia's door was closed when they got there.
"Hey, Voight."
"Hey. Is someone in with Olivia?"
"Nah. She sometimes sits in her office with her door closed when she's got a lot on her mind."
"Give me a minute."
"Ok."
Olive and Daniel talked with everyone, while Hank went to knock on Olivia's office door.
"Come on in."
Hank opened the door, went in and Olivia was on the sofa. She saw it was him, so she wiped her eyes. She was holding the picture of her and Ed in Paris.
"Thinking about Ed again?"
"Yeah. I seem to be doing that a lot lately."
"I understand completely and you will be doing it for a long time. I still do that a lot with both Camille and Justin."
"Why does it hurt so much when we weren't even together?"
Hank sat down next to Olivia and put his arms around her.
"You cared about him and it is always hard to lose someone you care about. It's completely normal. A part of you will always love him, just like a part of me will always love Camille. We don't love each other any less because of it, right?"
"Right. I think I loved you longer than I cared to admit and part of that was the reason why I could never see myself with Ed long term."
"At least he came to terms with your break up and us being together. You stayed friends and he was still a part of your life."
"Then why didn't he tell me about his illness?"
"Sometimes people don't know how. Camille had a hard time telling me but it was even harder for her to tell Justin. I get how you're feeling but I do understand why Ed did what he did. It was hard to see Camille wasting away and getting weaker but we were all with her when she left us. Some people don't want to be a burden to anyone and that was just how Ed was. The fact that he had it in his brain made it worse because there wasn't a whole lot that could have been done but he could have had a seizure and collapsed. It wouldn't have been easy no matter what. It was hard knowing that Justin wasn't ever going to be the same, so really the only choice was to let him go."
"I don't want to lose you either."
"You won't. I'm not going anywhere. You and Noah are my present and my future and that's why I know I need to be here."
Olivia kissed Hank and then after she wiped her eyes, they went out to the Squad Room. As soon as Daniel saw Olivia, he ran over and hugged her.
"I missed you."
"I missed you too, Sweetie."
"You ok, Liv?"
"Yeah. I was just thinking about Tucker again."
"Even though I was never a fan of the guy, I had a hard time with this. You just never know what is goin' through someone's head, especially when they already know they're dying."
"Tucker's death was hard for me too and I never liked him either."
"Liv, we're good here, so why don't you go home?"
"You sure, Fin?"
"Yeah."
"Will you be ok if I take next week off?"
"The whole week?"
"Yes. I'm going to be taking time off when Hank and I go on our honeymoon, so you will be in charge then too."
"We'll be fine."
"Good."
Olivia went to get her stuff and then they all headed to Olivia's apartment. During the next several hours, Hank took Olive and Daniel to the hotel to get checked in, while Olivia went to get Noah at school. She got out of her SUV and waited for him, so he would see her when he came out and Sarah was with him.
"Mom!"
"Hey!"
"Is everything ok?"
"Great. Why do you ask?"
"You haven't picked me up in a while."
"I know. Hank took Olive and Daniel to the hotel, so they could get checked in."
"Awesome! I can't wait to see them."
Then Jason walked over to them.
"Hi Daddy."
"Hey."
"Hey. Hank asked if tomorrow was ok for dinner."
"That sounds great. What time?"
"5:30 ok?"
"Sounds perfect."
"Great. We will see you then."
Everyone left and headed home. Hank, Olive and Daniel were all back as well.
"Hey."
"Hey. I told Jason 5:30 for dinner and he said that was fine."
"Good."
"Hi Olive."
"Hey, Noah. How was school?"
"Great. Hi Daniel."
"Hi Noah."
"Do you have homework?"
"Yes."
Noah went to his room to work on his homework, while Hank made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner. Once dinner was ready, the 5 of them sat down for dinner.
"Papa, this is yummy!"
"I'm glad you like it. I know it's your favorite."
"Yep."
"Mine too."
"I know."
"How are things going with you, Olivia?"
"Not too bad. I'm looking forward to taking some time off. I need it. Do you think you'll get this job?"
"Yeah. I'm pretty confident that I will. I would be working for someone I worked with in Arizona."
"Would you have done it if Hank decided he wasn't going to retire and move here?"
"Probably, since you and Erin are here. I hate the idea of being somewhere where I don't know anyone."
"I completely understand that. I'm glad Hank decided he wants to be here though."
"Me too. It'll be good for Daniel to be around his grandpa all the time. When are you planning to retire?"
"I haven't put my papers in yet but I'm thinking maybe by the end of June."
"Then maybe you two can get serious about getting married."
"We'll see what happens."
"I still say to just do it and get it over with."
Hank gave Noah a high five.
"I don't regret not having a big wedding. Hank, when are you going back to Chicago?"
"That probably depends on when you leave."
"Someone wants to go visit his daddy and I hate going to the cemetery by myself. I did make our reservations back from Chicago."
"Maybe since I'm off, I can see if I can get Lucy or Amanda to stay with him and go to Chicago with you."
"That works. We could go on Friday."
"That would work."
"I think Noah is off on Friday."
"Yes I am."
"Then that takes care of that."
Everyone finished dinner and then they had dessert. Hank cleaned up, while Noah went to take his bath and Olivia took Olive and Daniel back to their hotel. Once Noah was ready for bed, he joined Hank in the living room just as Olivia came back. Hank was looking at places to live.
"Daniel wanted to go swimming before bed."
"Which is why she wanted to stay at a hotel instead of Erin's. I found a condo that has an indoor and outdoor pool. Is this in the area?"
"Let's see."
Hank showed Olivia what he was looking at.
"Wow! Yes, that is in this area and he's still be in the same school. That isn't bad but a little pricey."
"So, we can't afford it?"
"We can. I do like the idea of having both an indoor and outdoor pool and it has security, which is a plus."
"I think that's where Sarah lives."
"Is it?"
"I'm pretty sure."
"Do you want to look at it?"
"Yeah."
Olivia scheduled a time to go see it on Saturday morning and they continued looking to see if they could find anything else they liked. They both tucked Noah in and then they went into Olivia's bedroom to make love before going to bed themselves.
The next morning, they picked up Olive and Daniel and went to have breakfast. After breakfast they went to look at the places they were interested in. Noah was right. Jason and Sarah lived at the one place they had looked and so far, they all seemed to like that one in particular and not just because of the pools but because it seemed to have the most room for the 5 of them. Hank dropped Olive and the boys off at the hotel after they got Noah's swimsuit and then he and Olivia went shopping to get what they needed for dinner. They got what they needed and went home. Once they got back, they put everything away and fell asleep for a while.
Several hours later while Hank was fixing dinner, Olivia went to get Olive and the boys and brought them over to her apartment. When they arrived back at the apartment, Jason and Sarah were arriving as well.
"We're a little early."
"Don't worry about it. This is Olive and this is Daniel. Olive, this is Jason Stevens and his daughter Sarah."
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
They all went in and headed upstairs after Olivia checked the mail.
"Honey, we're back and Jason and Sarah are already here."
"Ok. Dinner isn't quite ready yet."
"It smells good."
"Thanks."
Noah took Sarah and showed her his room, while Daniel followed them. Olivia got drinks for everyone, while Olive and Jason sat down. Olivia brought the drinks in and then went to help Hank.
"How old is your son?"
"He will be 5 in May, so he'll start Kindergarten in the fall. Your daughter is how old?"
"She is 7. What do you do?"
"I do Accounts Payable for the company I currently work for. I started taking college classes before my husband died but I quit for a while. After he died, I went back to school part time while I worked full-time. I started as a receptionist/administrative assistant but then I was helping out in Accounting. The person I was helping left and I took over. She is actually the one that wants me to come out here. It's more money, which will help a lot. She and I got along really well and she has twin boys that are Daniel's age and a 9-year old daughter, so she knows my situation. My husband was in the Army and we were in Kentucky. After he died, we were living with Hank for a while and then I moved to Scottsdale to be closer to my sister. She watched him while I was at work and Daniel got to know his cousins. My sister understands that it is important for Daniel to have a relationship with Hank because he is the only connection he has to Justin."
"Sarah's mother got mixed up with the wrong people and left her with either set of grandparents on a moment's notice. She'd be gone for long periods of time. She also turned to drugs, so I'm actually surprised she hasn't turned up dead somewhere. She did give up her parental rights but her parents have always supported me and they're there for Sarah when I need them as are my parents."
"I have a better relationship with Hank than I do my own parents. Olivia is really the only grandma Daniel has and she isn't even his grandma. Hank said you're a Physical Therapist?"
"I am. I have long hours sometimes but I do ok. The grandparents aren't too far away if I need them. I try arranging my schedule to be able to take her to her dance classes a couple days a week."
Olivia set the table.
"Dinner should be about ready."
"Ok."
Once Olivia was done setting the table, she went to get the kids. Hank brought the salad out, while Olivia got the kids something to drink and then they all sat down. Hank then went to get their meal.
"Honey, this is so good."
"I'm glad you like it."
"Good, Papa."
"Thank you."
"Hank, I will need the recipe for this."
"I can handle that."
"Me too. That is if Sarah likes this."
"It's really good."
"Do you cook a lot?"
"I try to even if it's making it the night before and heating it up when I get home. Are you planning to put a bid on the condo in our building?"
"We still have a few more places to look at but that one is looking the most promising so far. If you ever get into a bind with your schedule and the grandparents' schedules, let me know and I could probably get Noah's nanny to pick her up."
"She won't mind?"
"I'm pretty sure she won't mind. If she does, then I'll pick them up."
"Lucy won't mind."
"Will Lucy be able to help out with Daniel?"
"I don't see why not but I'll check with her. I'll have to call her tomorrow anyway to let her know that she can have the week off."
"Olive, how many days are you staying?"
"Until Friday. Why?"
"I was wondering if you and Daniel would like to do something with Sarah and me maybe tomorrow. Sarah wants to go to the Zoo."
"That sounds great. What do you think, Daniel?"
"Yeah!"
"We can pick you up at 10?"
"That sounds like a plan."
"Can Noah come too?"
"I think that would be ok. What do you think, Sweetie?"
"I'd like that."
"I'm fine with picking him up too."
"Then that gives us some time alone."
"That works for me."
"I thought you might like that idea."
"Great."
Everyone continued eating dinner and then they had dessert. After dessert, Jason and Sarah left after he and Olive exchanged phone numbers and then Hank took Olive and Daniel back to their hotel, while Olivia and Noah cleaned up.
"Noah, you seem to get along with Sarah. Why didn't you ever mention her before?"
"I don't know but I'm glad that I have gotten to know her better because of dance class and now outside of class. Maybe it's because she's a girl."
"It's ok for you to be friends with a girl."
"I know and I'm glad we're friends."
"Has she been in your class since Kindergarten?"
"Yes. I kind of like her."
"It's good for you to have friends that are girls too."
"I have Jesse."
"Besides Jesse."
They finished cleaning up and then Noah got ready for bed. By the time Hank got back, Noah wanted him to tuck him in. Hank and Olivia both kissed Noah and then they went into Olivia's bedroom.
"Did Daniel want you to read him his story?"
"Yep."
They got ready for bed and then they went to sleep. The next morning, everyone got up and got ready for their day. Jason called to let Olivia know when they would pick Noah up. Once they picked Noah up, Olivia called Lucy and then she and Hank looked at more places online and set up more appointments to go look at them. Jason picked up Olive and Daniel and they all went to the Zoo. Everyone ended up having fun together and got along well with each other.
During the next several days, Olive had gone for her interview and got the job, Hank and Olivia looked at the places they had made the appointments for but decided to make an offer on the place they all liked and Jason and Olive even went out without the kids a few times. They two of them seemed to really enjoy each other's company. By the end of the week, Hank, Olivia, Noah, Olive and Daniel left for Chicago, so Olive could take Daniel to visit Justin's grave. Hank also told his squad that he was planning to put his paperwork in and retire. After he talked to them, he did just that. Olive and Daniel and Olivia and Noah left on Sunday to return to Phoenix and New York. The goodbyes were getting harder but pretty soon, Hank would be with his entire family full time.
