A/N: As I'm sure you have already heard, Stabler is making a comeback. I probably won't be watching the new show unless there are crossovers. Anyway, this idea came to mind. I'm guessing when he returns to the NYPD, Stabler will have been promoted, so for purposes of this story, I am making him a Sergeant. As far as my other stories are concerned, I'll get back to them eventually but I just can't think of anything for them right now. I don't own any of the characters except my own.

Voight Meets Stabler

Simon's death was now an investigation and somehow it ended up being related to an investigation in Chicago. This case ended up on Elliot Stabler's desk. He knew Simon Marsden was Olivia's half-brother but he still couldn't bring himself to contacting Olivia. It had been 9 years and he knew she'd be pissed that he hadn't kept in touch. He knew what had happened with William Lewis, he knew she had been involved with Ed Tucker for a while, he knew about Noah and he knew she was now a Captain. He also knew that Ed had committed suicide several months ago and that Olivia was engaged to be married. Elliot arrived in Chicago and got his rental car to head to the 21st District.

"Can I help you?"

"I'm Sergeant Elliot Stabler from the NYPD Organized Crime Unit and I am looking for Sergeant Hank Voight."

"Is he expecting you?"

"I think so. I talked with him briefly yesterday."

"I'll take you up."

Trudy took Elliot upstairs to Intelligence. They were all doing paperwork.

"Hey, Sarge."

"Hey. This is Sergeant Stabler from the NYPD. This is Detective Jay Halstead, Detective Hailey Upton, Officer Adam Ruzek, Officer Kevin Atwater, Officer Kim Burgess and Officer Vanessa Rojas."

"Nice to meet all of you."

"You too."

They walked over to Hank's office and he was on the phone. They stood in the doorway and waited until he hung up.

"You must be Sergeant Stabler."

"I am. You must be Sergeant Voight."

"Yeah, that's me. Thanks, Trudy."

"Yep."

Trudy went back downstairs.

"I'm investigating an overdose death that was actually suspected to be a homicide."

"That's the Marsden case?"

"Yeah."

"That case is kind of personal for me. He was my fiancee's half-brother."

"Wait, you're engaged to Olivia Benson?"

"Yeah, you know her?"

"She and I were partners for 12 years."

"You must be the one she compared me to when we first met. She didn't like my interrogation methods and threatened to arrest me. I thought you put your papers in."

"I did."

"Come in and have a seat."

"Thanks."

Elliot came in and sat down.

"I just couldn't deal with what had happened. I'm a father to 5 children and felt so guilty for killing that girl. I couldn't risk any of my co-workers being put in harm's way, especially Liv. I put my papers in and took a 9-year leave of absence. I spent a lot of time trying to come to terms with what had happened and sometimes I still haven't. My wife and I fixed our marriage and did some travelling. I was asked if I wanted to run the Organized Crime Unit. That came with a promotion to Sergeant."

"I spent some time in prison and by the time I was released, I was offered the position to run Intelligence and a promotion. Olivia and I have known each other for just over 5 years and she had been promoted twice in that time. Four years ago, I was offered a meritorious promotion to Lieutenant but I turned it down. They basically did it to keep me behind a desk. I'm more of a hands on person. So to speak."

"I get it. Believe me. That's how I am. I've had numerous run ins with IAB over the years. How long have you and Liv been together?"

"2½ years. We're getting married in Hawaii next year."

"How do you two manage the long distance thing? My wife and I had enough problems being in the same house."

"It hasn't been easy. This is the second time around for us though. We started seeing each other not too long after we met. We worked on a couple cases together and they were 6 months apart. My late wife passed away 10 years ago, so at the time, it was just a casual thing because neither of us was looking for anything more at the time. She came here after the perp that was sent to prison escaped and she had told me she had started seeing someone. I told her I was ok with it but on the inside, it was really killing me. I had every intention of telling her how I really felt about her but I never did. I told her I wanted her to be happy. One of my former Detectives, who is like a daughter to me, was always on the phone with Detective Rollins from SVU and none of them liked that she was with the guy she was with. I knew it was the guy from IAB. When my son died, they came to the funeral, which I appreciated and he seemed to treat her ok and we seemed to get along. Olivia and I stayed friends that whole time but she had her doubts about that relationship. After they broke up, Tucker was actually the one that called me and he said he had a feeling that she had had stronger feelings for me than she was willing to admit even though she told him she needed to focus on Noah. He said he was ok if she and I ended up together because he wanted her to be happy. That summer, she and Noah came here and we got together for good."

"I found out she was with Tucker when he had been investigated a few years ago. It was almost like I didn't know her anymore."

"Fin and the rest of her squad said the same thing. Olivia now admits that she doesn't know what she was thinking when she got involved with Tucker because her feelings for me were always there. She still cared for him though."

"I'm glad she ended up with you and not Tucker but I guess there was another side to that guy that none of us really saw before."

Then Jay knocked on the door.

"What's goin' on Jay?"

"I got a text from one of my CI's. There's a lead on someone connected to that drug dealer we've been looking for."

"Ok. Let's go. You wanna ride with me?"

"Sure."

Everyone left and headed to where they were told the person was supposed to be. They took him into custody and headed back to the District. They took him into the Interrogation Room. Hank and Elliot both went in there with him.

"Where is he?"

"Where's who? I don't know anything."

"Roberto Martinez."

"I don't know who that is."

"I don't like to be lied to."

"I'm not."

Hank stood up and got in the guy's face. He pulled him up by the shirt and pushed him up against the wall.

"I want to know where Martinez is and I want to know now!"

"I told you. I don't know."

Hank shoved him back into the chair.

"You try."

Elliot got up and got into his face. He then opened the file folder he had with other people that were connected to Martinez.

"Do you know any of these people?"

"No."

"Why am I not believing you?"

"I'm not lying."

"We've got your phone records here with numerous calls to Martinez."

Then Elliot showed him a picture of Simon.

"Do you recognize him?"

"Yes."

"Where do you know him from?"

"He was the one I was supposed to give a bad batch of heroin to because some guy wanted to get back at some cop for sending him to prison. He said he wants to make the cop's life a living hell until he's released. He knows people and said if I didn't do it, I'd be sorry."

Hank then pulled up a picture of Rob Miller.

"Is this the guy?"

"Yeah. That's him."

"Son of a bitch!"

Hank stormed out of the room and Elliot followed.

"Liv is in danger, isn't she?"

"I think so."

Hank called Olivia but it went straight to voicemail. Then he called Fin.

"Hey, Voight."

"Are Olivia and Noah ok?"

"Yeah. They just left to come see you this weekend. She said she was planning to stay for the week. What's goin' on?"

"We have one of the associates of Roberto Martinez, that drug dealer we've been lookin' for, at the District and apparently one of your former co-workers is working on the Marsden case for the NYPD."

"Who's that?"

"Elliot Stabler."

"I thought he retired. Obviously Liv doesn't know that."

"Anyway, he showed the guy a picture of Simon and he recognized him. He said he was the guy that he was supposed to give a bad batch of heroin to because some guy wanted to make this cop's life a living hell for putting him into prison and it will continue until he is released. I showed him a picture of Rob Miller and he confirmed that is who it was."

"Damn!"

"Let me talk to him."

"Hold on, Fin."

Hank handed Elliot the phone, so he could talk to Fin. He told him what was going on and then Fin said he and Rollins would go talk to Miller. Elliot told him if he needed to, he could contact someone in his unit. Fin said he would and then they hung up.

"This entire time, the one behind all this was under my nose but locked up."

"I'll feel better when Olivia and Noah are here. That SOB is better off dead!"

Hank tried telling Elliot as much as he could about what had happened with Rob Miller and then Elliot contacted his team to let them know what was going on and to expect a call from someone from SVU. They let the guy they had in the Interrogation Room leave but told him they may need him again. Hank told his squad to keep an eye on the guy's phone because he knew he would be contacting Martinez as soon as he could. Sure enough, about 10 minutes later, there was a call made to Martinez.

"Sarge, you were right."

"I knew he was lying."

"Did you know Liv was planning to be here this weekend?"

"I've been so busy lately, I guess I forgot. I usually don't forget our time together because sometimes we don't see each other as often as we want."

"So, you know Captain Benson?"

"Yeah. She and I were partners for 12 years. I retired after I shot and killed a teenage girl in the Squad Room but it ended up being more of a leave of absence. I returned to the NYPD recently to head the Organized Crime Unit and one of the first cases I had on my desk was the investigation into Simon Marsden's death. I knew that was Liv's half-brother. Now we know basically what happened."

"Miller will deny it though. Peter Stone, who was the ADA in New York at the time, ended up coming back here but he tries to avoid Olivia. I told him that she doesn't blame him anymore."

"Stone? He any relation to Ben?"

"Yeah. Ben was his father. Peter played Major League Baseball for the Cubs as a pitcher until he hurt his arm. He then became a lawyer. He was an Assistant State's Attorney here and then after his dad died, he moved to New York."

"I heard all about the case with ADA Barba."

"Olivia and Peter didn't start out on the right foot because of that. Peter was brought in as a special prosecutor for that and then he stayed on. Olivia gave Peter a shoulder to cry on when his sister was murdered and Peter was working with Noah on his baseball skills. Noah has since given up on baseball and decided he wanted to do ballet. He is actually pretty good. He got a part in the Nutcracker."

"How old is he?"

"He's 7."

Hank told Elliot what Olivia had been through to become Noah's mother.

"That is definitely one thing she has always wanted and I'm happy she has finally found someone to spend the rest of her life with. I hope she'll be happy to see me. I know I really need to clear the air with us and explain why I did what I did. I know she'll be pissed. Does she ever hear from ADA Barba?"

"They Skyped just before her birthday. He wanted to know how she was doing after Tucker's death, since she is taking it pretty hard. For a while there, she was blaming herself for Simon's death. She ran into each other and he wanted to take her and Noah out for lunch. She agreed and then she decided on the place. He never showed up and she called to find out where she was. She told him not to contact her ever again. Then Dr. Warner contacted her to tell her Simon's body was in the Morgue. He had told her he was clean and sober for 5 years and then died of an apparent overdose of bad heroin. You know the rest."

"Yeah. Thanks for filling me in on all that."

"Sarge, I just pinged Martinez's phone. He's in New York."

Kevin gave Elliot the location and then he contacted his unit to tell them to find him and arrest him. Everyone then decided to call it a day and Hank invited Elliot to meet him, Olivia and Noah for dinner. He picked the place and he would let him know when they were on their way.

What will Olivia's reaction be to seeing her former partner after 9 years?
