A/N: This is the next part to the chapter titled "The Drummer". I don't own any of the characters except my own.

Surprises

The last several months had been a blur for Olivia. She finished the school year and she had also found out she was pregnant. She found out from the news that Hank had been in a car accident but Ed had called her to tell her a few days after Hank had had surgery for a broken leg. She made the arrangements to go to him and one of her roommates had taken her to the airport. Al and his fiancée, Meredith picked her up when she arrived.

"Thanks for comin'."

"Sure. Thanks for calling."

"No problem. This is Meredith, my fiancée. Meredith, this is Olivia Benson."

"It's nice to finally meet you."

"You too."

"I wanted to be the one to pick you up. Hank's ex is back in his life."

"Oh, great! Then why am I even here?"

"He wants you here. She showed up a few weeks ago with his kid."

"Is it even his?"

"He did a paternity test and they matched. If it makes any difference, it's you he loves. He can't stop talking about you."

"Why all of a sudden is she back in his life after a year and a half?"

"She felt it was time he met his son. She does not want to get back together and he made it perfectly clear that he has someone in his life. She wants to meet you."

"I can hardly wait. I'm beginning to think this entire relationship was a mistake."

"Why?"

"After we first met and you guys left, I heard from him almost every day for the first week and then nothing. I know he said he's not into being with a woman in every city he's in but I need to know I can trust him. A part of me doesn't believe him."

"If anyone knows how you feel, I do."

"How'd you realize you could trust him?"

"Alvin is one of the most honest people I know and so is Hank."

"I know Hank. I've known him since we were kids. He's never been into one night stands. When he's with someone, it's long term. He's ready to commit and he wants that person to be you."

"Who ended things with his last relationship?"

"She did. She just up and left without so much as a phone call or a note. She's only a couple years older than you but you're a lot more mature than she is. I'm not exactly sure how she has raised a kid. I'm surprised she didn't leave him with Hank."

"I am too."

Al arrived at the hospital and then they went up to Hank's room. Olivia went in by herself.

"Hey."

"Hey, Beautiful. I missed you."

"Did you?"

"Of course I did. What's with the attitude?"

"Al told me your ex is back in your life and you have a kid with her."

"She is but I told her I have someone in my life, so she needs to accept that. I'm not taking her back just because we have a kid together. She said she didn't want to get back together but I do plan on being a father to my son."

"I heard from you almost every day for the first week but then nothing after that. Now all of a sudden, I hear from the news and your Manager that you were in a car accident and broke your leg in several places."

"I asked Ed to call you."

"I want to trust you, Hank. I really do but I'm not sure if I can."

"Olivia, you see this?"

Hank showed Olivia the tattoo on the inside of his forearm. He had had her name tattooed there.

"I never did this for anyone. I am in this relationship 100%. I love you and I want to build a life with you."

Hank pulled something out of the drawer of the table. He opened the little box.

"Olivia, will you marry me?"

Olivia had tears running down her cheeks.

"Yes!"

Hank took the ring out of the box and put it on Olivia's finger. Then he kissed her.

"I'm sorry I'm doubting you."

"It's ok. I should have done a better job of keeping in touch with you these last few months. I knew I wanted to make things official with you after that weekend we were first together. As soon as we got to our next stop, I bought the ring. I knew I wanted to be with you and only you from the moment I first laid eyes on you."

"So, Al said your ex left you?"

"Yeah. She still hasn't changed all that much. If I was around more, maybe I'd try to get custody of Justin."

"I'm actually going to need you around a little more often because I'm pregnant."

"You're pregnant?"

"Yes."

"That is so amazing."

"Around Christmas."

Hank kissed Olivia and put his hand on her belly.

"Hello in there. This is your daddy."

Hank had gotten a phone call and then he hung up.

"Is everything ok?"

"That was the police. Camille was in an accident but didn't make it. It looks like I may have Justin because Camille doesn't have much of a relationship with her family. Will we be ok if I have to raise him? The last thing I want is to have this cause problems for us."

"I think we'll be ok. It may take some time for me to get used to him and for him to get used to me."

"He's a good kid."

Then a police officer came in with Justin. Justin saw Olivia and smiled.

"Mr. Voight."

"Yeah."

"I'm Sergeant Collins. I just spoke to you."

"Right. This is my fiancée Olivia Benson."

"Hi."

"Hello."

Sergeant Collins put Justin down in one of the chairs.

"Was Justin with her?"

"No. My family and I live next door to Camille, so my wife was watching Justin. She was glad she made things right with you."

"I'm just glad she didn't expect us to get back together because that wasn't gonna happen. What we had was special but I was never in love with her. She's the one that walked out on me and never told me about my son until recently. I know I now have some decisions to make to do right by my family. What happened to the other person?"

"He was taken to another hospital in pretty bad shape. I'd be very surprised if he makes it. I will get the rest of Justin's things together after my shift."

"Ok. I'll have someone come get it and take it to my condo."

"Ok. Here's my card with my cell number."

"Thanks."

"Bye, Justin."

"Bye-bye."

Sergeant Collins left.

"What sort of decisions do you have to make?"

"About whether or not I plan to continue with the band. Al and I are the ones that actually write the songs. He's been talkin' about not continuing either. I want to be here for you and the kids."

"I still have one more year left of school and then worry about getting a job or if I'm going to continue on with my education."

"I've been thinking about wanting to get a place closer to you, so maybe we can look."

"So, you'd be a stay at home dad?"

"I would. I know I wouldn't be able to get a whole lot done with an infant and a toddler but we'll make it work. Right now I'm going to have to take time off to recover."

"I have until the middle of August when school starts up again. Would you move there permanently or would you go back and forth?"

"Probably back and forth for now."

Then Ed came in.

"How you doin'?"

"A little better. I was up earlier. Camille was killed in a car accident, so now I'm responsible for Justin. Olivia and I are also engaged. Olivia still has another year left of school and I need to be with my family, but I want to continue to write songs. I'm gonna need time off to recover anyway."

"I just had the same talk with Al. I'm not really surprised. You two and Sonny are the most family oriented. He was pretty flirty with that blonde friend of Olivia's."

"That was Amanda. Kim talks about Adam all the time."

"Mouch liked Trudy."

"She almost came with me because she wanted to see him but since it was last minute, she decided against it."

"Mouch gets a girl but not me. I don't get it."

"You'll find the right one."

"You really lucked out and so did Al."

"I wasn't looking and it just sort of happened. I don't regret it. Have you seen that SOB Elliot again?"

"No. I hope I never do."

"Good. He obviously had a high opinion of himself."

"He's not allowed near the band anymore. He showed up at another one of the concerts and wanted to start something with Hank for what happened at the bar."

"Before you left that weekend?"

"This was a couple weeks later."

"He was such a jerk that night."

"Yeah, he was. All I was doing was defending you and he was being disrespectful."

"He kept grabbing me and bumping into me. Later on, he wanted me to go home with him. I never expected to end up in a relationship with someone after that night, especially someone from the band, who I've had a crush on for the longest time but it just sort of happened that way."

"I knew from the moment we met that I wanted to be with you. I was hurt when Camille just up and left and then once I was finally opening my heart to someone else, she comes back and tells me I have a son."

"I'll try to be the best mother I can to him."

"I know you will."

Hank kissed Olivia and then she noticed Justin needed to be changed.

"Maybe I should go change him."

"Ok."

Olivia kissed Hank again and then she grabbed the diaper bag to go change Justin.

"I should have asked Camille's neighbor, who's a cop, what happened. I have a bad feeling about this accident."

"You don't think it was an accident?"

"Not really. I don't want Olivia alone. I want her at my place but I want someone with her. Something tells me this has that Elliot guy written all over it. He won't stop until he gets me and a part of me thinks he was responsible for what happened to me. Olivia just told me she's pregnant with my child."

"I can see why you'd be so protective of her. You really fell hard for her."

"I did. I thought I loved Camille but she never wanted to settle and she took off. It's different with Olivia. I knew from the moment we were together for the first time that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her."

"You never got a tattoo for Camille. That's for sure."

"I don't think I would have. I just want Olivia and Justin safe."

"Got it. Any visitors have to be approved by me or Mouch."

"Good."

Olivia and Justin came back.

"All clean."

"Good."

"Somebody is hungry."

"I'll take him. Come on, kiddo."

Ed took Justin and went to get him something to eat. Olivia sat in the chair again and then she and Hank laced their fingers together."

A little while later, Sergeant Collins showed up again.

"I just thought you'd want to know that the other driver did not make it. I told you I'd be surprised if he did."

He then gave Hank the name of the other driver.

"That's a relief. That guy was trouble. He's been out to get me for the last few months. We got into a bar room brawl over a woman and he's been trying to get back at me ever since. He was the one that was harassing the woman. He showed up at the next leg of our tour and started in with me again. I figured it was really no accident nor would I be surprised if he was behind my accident too. I'm just glad my family is no longer in danger because of that psycho."

"We're still waiting on the toxicology reports on both and Camille's autopsy."

"Ok. Thanks for letting me know."

"No problem."

Sergeant Collins left again.

"I'm relieved he won't try to come after you now. I just want you, Justin and our baby safe. I did tell Ed because I wanted him to know the situation as to why I'm being so protective of you."

"That's fine. I haven't really told anyone because I wanted you to be the first to know but I think my friends suspect something because I've had morning sickness. I just want our baby to be healthy. I would love a little girl."

"I would too actually."

Hank and Olivia started kissing again. A little while later, Ed brought Justin back and then he ended up taking Olivia and Justin to Hank's condo. Olivia made something for her and Justin for dinner. Hank had some of the guys go over to Camille's apartment to get Justin's things and take them to his place. When they dropped the stuff off, they spent some time with Olivia and got to know her better. She liked that they all seemed to accept her in Hank's life. She and Justin seemed to be getting along pretty well too. By the time they left, she got Justin ready for bed and put him down. She went to get ready for bed and went to sleep in Hank's bed.

The next day, the police had gotten the results of the toxicology reports and Camille's autopsy and there was nothing out of the ordinary that showed up. Maybe it had just been an accident after all.

By the end of the week, Hank had been released from the hospital, so then he could finally spend some time with his fiancé and his son. They started looking for a condo near Olivia, so Hank could be closer to her.

A couple months later…

Once Olivia had returned home, she told all her friends about the baby and that Hank was moving there with his little boy to be closer to her. They had closed on the condo and Hank and Justin had officially moved there but Olivia ended up moving in with him. Justin and Olivia had grown close in the time she had spent with them while Hank was recovering. She was looking forward to being a mom to both Justin and the baby. Once the baby started moving and kicking, they started to involve Justin in a lot to make him feel like he was a part of it too. Olivia had decided to postpone her last year of school, so she could concentrate on her new family. She had told Hank that she eventually wanted to become Justin's mother but when the time was right. She didn't want to rush into it. He was still very young yet and didn't really comprehend what had happened to his mother.

The wedding was close as well. They decided to have it at one of Olivia's favorite spots at the beach. They exchanged vows and rings in front of all their friends and bandmates. The band of course performed the music. The song for the first dance Hank had written for Olivia. Justin stayed with Al and Meredith, while Hank took his wife on a honeymoon. He told her he would take her anywhere she wanted to go. All of Olivia's friends, including Meredith had had a baby shower for her.

Christmas...

It was Christmas Eve and Hank, Olivia and Justin's first Christmas as a family. Justin, now 2, had been calling Olivia 'Mama' since after she and Hank had gotten back from their honeymoon. Out of nowhere, he had called her Mama when she put him to bed one night and he had been calling her that ever since. He was into absolutely everything as most 2-year olds were. They were also waiting on the arrival of their daughter, Noelle Olivia Voight, any time now. Justin was taking a nap and Hank and Olivia were on their bed.

"How are you feelin', Babe?"

"I am exhausted, my back hurts and I am getting nervous about giving birth."

"I'm gonna be right there with you to get you through this. I cannot wait to meet our daughter."

"I hoped she would have been here by now. I was hoping we would have had her home for our first Christmas as a family."

"She's due at any time. Do you want me to help you go into labor?"

"Hank, we are not making love."

"Just a suggestion."

"I'm sorry I snapped. I'm just really uncomfortable right now."

Hank wrapped his arms around Olivia. Then the phone rang. It was the front desk saying they had some visitors: Olivia's friends. Hank got up to answer the door.

"Hey, ladies."

"Hey, Hank. How's Liv?"

"She's pretty uncomfortable, so it could be soon."

"That's good, right?"

"Yeah. She was hoping the baby would have been here already, so we could have had her home for our first Christmas as a family. Come on in."

"Thanks."

Everyone came in.

"Justin is taking his nap. Someone will be able to come stay with him when she goes to the hospital, right?"

"Absolutely."

"OW! HANK!"

Hank went back into the bedroom.

"What's wrong, Babe?"

"I think my contractions have started."

Hank sat on the bed and started rubbing her belly. That usually relaxed her.

"That isn't helping. I don't want to give birth anymore."

"You don't have a choice."

"I am never going through this again nor are you ever touching me again! You got that?"

"If that's what you want. Your friends are here."

"Ok."

Hank went to check on dinner.

"Hank, you ok?"

"She told me she's never going through this again nor does she want me to touch her again."

"I'm sure she'll change her mind."

"I doubt it. She sounded like she was serious. I love her but it seems like she's been pulling away from me and she acts like this is all my fault. It took both of us to make this happen."

"How much of her past has she told you?"

"I know she was abused by her mother. I would never hurt her."

"She knows that. You're really the only guy she has been comfortable with. The boyfriend she had in high school got into drugs and became abusive. She broke up with him and then he ended up overdosing. He would have even if she hadn't broken up with him."

"Did she blame herself?"

"For a long time, yes. She never had a good relationship with her mother and never knew her father. I don't think she ever really expected anything to come out of this relationship because she has been crushing on you since the band first started but it has turned out to be the best thing for her. She loves being a mom to Justin."

"Unlike some of my bandmates, I'm not into playing around and I don't need to have a different woman every night. I've never been like that. When I was with Justin's mother, I was faithful to her but she just up and left. I knew that if I was going to get married, I was going to have some decisions to make concerning my career especially with a 2-year old son and a baby on the way. Even before Camille was killed and Justin was with me full-time, I had planned on leaving the band. I couldn't leave Olivia and our baby for months at a time, while I'm on the road nor would I expect her to take care of my son while I'm gone."

"How's the writing going?"

"Not too bad. I'm constantly on the phone with Al."

"It's just the two of you who write the songs?"

"We do the majority of the songs. The song Olivia and I danced to at our wedding was something I wrote for her."

"That was really beautiful."

"Thanks."

Hank went to go check on Olivia.

"You doing ok?"

"No. I didn't mean what I said. I want a big family with you. I've always wanted a big family."

"It's ok, Babe. Why didn't you ever tell me about your ex?"

"I don't know."

"How bad did he hurt you?"

"Most of it was verbal but I had some physical bruises as well. He wasn't a bad guy but he got mixed up with the wrong people, who were into drugs. His parents had noticed the difference in him and they supported my decision to end the relationship. He promised me he'd get help but it was the people he hung around with that killed him. My mother was never that supportive but my friends were. My mother had different man every week it seemed like and one of them had tried to force me to perform oral sex on him. She was gone and he was drunk and high. He came into my bedroom and undid his pants. I said no and he slapped me. He then threw me down on the bed. I thought for sure he was going to rape me. I grabbed something and hit him on the head with it. I got the hell out of there and went straight to the police. By the time the police got there to arrest him, my mother had come back and they were having sex. He was arrested and then she of course slapped me. She always met these losers in bars. She didn't care. She probably would have watched if that one had raped me. That Elliot guy probably would have done something to me too. You are the only guy who has ever treated me with respect."

Olivia had tears falling down her cheeks and had another contraction, which were 10 minutes apart.

"That's because you deserve to be treated with respect. I really bothers me when I hear stories like that. I will never hurt you."

"All I wanted was for my first time to be special and it truly was. It made it extra special because it happened with my then crush, now husband and father of my baby. Thank you for loving me."

"I'll never stop loving you. I love that you had a crush on me but didn't stalk me."

"I wouldn't do that. I love you."

"I love you too."

Hank kissed Olivia.

"How far apart are your contractions?"

"About 10 minutes."

"Dinner should be ready soon. Al and Meredith haven't gotten here yet."

The phone rang and it was the front desk again. Hank said it was ok to send them up and then he went to get the door, while he checked on dinner again.

"Hey."

"Hey, you two."

"How's Olivia?"

"She's hangin' in there. Her contractions have started and are 10 minutes apart. We're hoping it'll either be tonight or tomorrow. How's everyone?"

"Great. No more concerts until after the first of the year just like usual."

"I don't miss it."

"I don't really either. We're talkin' about gettin' a place here too. It would make more sense with both of us doin' the writing to be in the same place."

"Yeah, true. Dinner should be ready soon."

"Ok."

Olivia came out of the bedroom and then Justin woke up.

"Hey, everyone."

"Hey. Honey, Justin is awake."

"Ok."

"I got him, Hank."

"Thanks, Meredith."

Meredith went to get Justin and put him in his high chair. Hank put the garlic bread after the lasagna came out. Everyone sat down and then Hank brought everything out.

"I only got non-alcoholic wine because of Olivia."

"That's fine."

Hank got Justin his juice and then everyone started eating. Olivia was hungry but she kept picking at her food.

"Are you not hungry?"

"I am but my contractions are coming closer together."

Hank could tell how uncomfortable she was. He called the doctor and told her how uncomfortable Olivia was. Her contractions were 5 minutes apart. She said to get her to the hospital. Then Hank hung up the phone.

"She said to get you to the hospital. There are cookies in the tin on the counter. Justin can have a couple cookies but that's it."

"Ok."

"I'm so sorry I'm ruining everyone's Christmas Eve."

"Liv, you're not but it's ok."

Hank went to get Olivia's bag and then he came out of the bedroom to get the coats.

"Go bye-bye?"

"Mama needs to go to the hospital to have your new sister."

"Ok. Kiss, Mama."

Olivia bent down to give Justin a kiss.

"Wuv you."

"I love you too."

Hank helped Olivia with her coat and boots and then they left for the hospital. Once everyone else was done eating, they cleaned up. When Hank arrived at the hospital, they went to get Olivia registered and then she was taken to her room to be monitored. The doctor had come in to check on her and she was 4 cm dilated.

A little after 3am on Christmas morning, Olivia gave birth to Noelle Olivia Voight, who weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces and measured 19½ inches long. Olivia held her for a little while and then Hank held her. Olivia was asleep pretty quickly because she was so exhausted. Hank watched his daughter and his wife, who were both asleep. He may have been a little biased but he thought his daughter was as beautiful as her mother. The events of the last 9 months had happened quickly but he was happier than he had ever been. Olivia was the best thing that had happened to him in a long time. He was starting to get used to having a 2-year old but now they also had a newborn. He hoped Justin would love his new baby sister as much as he loved Olivia. He never expected Justin and Olivia to take to each other as quickly as they did but there was nothing Olivia wouldn't do for that little boy. Hank had already sent everyone a picture of Noelle. He couldn't wait to take his girls home and for the 4 of them to start the rest of their lives together.
