Legacies and Lightning: Chapter 21
In the tunnels: With Naruto, Yuui, Yakumo, Mayui and Koyoi
Naruto and the others were all looking at the newly introduced Kabuto with skepticism and curiosity; while he didn't look like much they were not willing to write him off yet.
Mayui was the first to react as she rushed forward and knocked Kabuto off his feet by tackling him to the ground.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Kabuto protested as Mayui flipped him over and began to tie his hands together with ninja wire.
"Shut up" Mayui shouted as she restrained Kabuto; Naruto and the others seeing this rushed through the open door entering the new tunnel. Naruto turned around, closed and locked the door before looking at Yuui.
"Alright the doors closed" Naruto said and Yuui nodded "what do we do with this guy?"
"I don't know" Yuui said "i say tie him up and leave him here"; Kabuto hearing this looked up to them and spoke.
"Wait, no, please; don't leave me in here by myself" Kabuto begged and Naruto looked at him.
"Hell no dude; I don't know you" Naruto said pointing at him.
"Yeah, we already got ambushed by a squad of assholes and I'm not looking forward to that happening again" Yuui said and Kabuto began to beg even more.
"No, no, no, no; I'm not planing to do that" Kabuto said "I just want to find my team and get out of here". "Please, I can help you" Kabuto said; bot Naruto and Yuui were unconvinced and were about to reject him when Koyoi spoke up.
"Ok let me ask you this" Koyoi said as he reached into his pocket and took out the key he and his team got when they entered the cave "have you seen a yellow door?"
Kabuto looked at Koyoi and nodded "Y-yes I have" Kabuto said "but I didn't have a key to open it, so I skipped it".
Upon hearing this everyone in the group looked at each other and Yakumo spoke up "we should go and see if we can get to that door" Yakumo said "maybe we can get out that way".
"Yeah maybe" Naruto said "or and just hear me out… this guys lying so we don't kick his ass and leave him here".
"I don't know" Yuui said looking at the restrained Kabuto "I mean, he has no reason to lie; he's completely at our mercy".
"You have a good point" Mayui said tapping her chin "alright, how about this"; everyone looked to Mayui as she spoke. "We have four eyes here guide us to the door and see if our key works" Mayui said "if it doesn't then no harm no foul; but if he's lying or leads us into a trap we kill him and move on".
"Wait; kill me?" Kabuto said slightly panicked as everyone looked at him "you're not going to kill me over a chunin exam… right?"; everyone looked at each other and they all spoke.
"Yeah" "No" everyone said; Naruto, Yuui and Mayui all said yes while Yakumo and Koyoi said no. Everyone looked at each other in confusion and then Naruto spoke up.
"We'll put it up to a vote" Naruto said as he picked him up and brought him to his feet.
"But we're from the same village; isn't there some kind of camaraderie between us?" Kabuto asked and Naruto shrugged.
"I don't know you dude" Naruto said "I just hope for your sake you're speaking the truth; because I can tell you this, Yuui and Mayui aren't the forgiving type". Kabuto looked to Yuui and Mayui who were giving him distrustful looks and he gulped.
"I-I'll help you" Kabuto said and Naruto nodded.
"Ok dude" Naruto said as he gave Kabuto a soft push from behind "start walking"; Kabuto began to lead Naruto and the others through the tunnels as they once again tried to find a way out.
At the Jonin lounge: With Anko and Kurenai
"Kabuto Yakushi, Kabuto Yakushi" Anko said as she sat at the table flipping through a book trying to find the glasses wearing Konoha ninja that Naruto and Yakumo captured "ah, found him".
Kurenai who was sitting across from her spoke up "so what does it say about him?" Kurenai asked and Anko read out loud.
"Lets see, he's part of a three man team, specialized in medical ninjutsu, average in everything else" Anko said as she continued to read "failed the chunin exams seven times already; holy shit".
"He failed seven times?" Kurenai asked surprised "he's been taking the chunin exams twice a year for the past four years?"; Anko nodded at this and Kurenai looked at the tv screen showing Naruto and Yakumo along with Yuui's team walking with Kabuto.
"I guess he's just not that good" Anko said as she closed the book and looked at the screen with Kurenai "I mean not everyone is capable of doing it; heck remember Kakashi's old teammate Obito, he had to take the exams three times before he made it".
"Four times" came a voice and both women turned around and saw Kakashi walking up "me and Rin both made it our first tries; but Obito had a lot harder time than us". "But at the time we were at war and the chunin exam rules were a lot looser; I was there as a jonin acting as a stand in" Kakashi said as he sat with Kurenai and Anko "how's Naruto doing".
"So far he's at the half way point" Anko said pointing at the screen "how about your team?"
Kakashi looked to her and spoke "they knocked out a Iwa team and took their key; they're just a little behind Naruto" he said as he looked at the screen; Kakashi looked at Kabuto and narrowed his eye at him. 'Hmmm… I have a bad feeling about that kid' Kakashi thought 'I best keep my eye on him'.
Back with Naruto, Yakumo, Yuui, Mayui and Koyoi
Naruto was still behind Kabuto as they walked through the tunnels looking for the yellow door that Kabuto claimed to have seen; as they walked down the tunnel in complete silence Kabuto stopped cold and whispered.
"Don't move" Kabuto said in a low tone; Naruto got ready to defend himself as he was expecting an ambush from another team when Kabuto spoke again "look above us".
Naruto and the others looked above them at the ceiling of the tunnel and they all went wide eyed; up above was hundreds of bats hanging from the ceiling, sleeping soundly and making low squeezing noises.
"What the hell?" Yuui said in a whisper "are those bats?"
"Yes they are" Kabuto said in a whisper "nasty little critters; those thing are the reason I got separated from my team".
"We have to get past them?" Yakumo said with a shiver "who knows what kind of viruses they might have".
"Get low and be very quiet" Kabuto said as he crouched down low to the ground "we can sneak past them, just don't make a sound". "And turn off your jutsu's lighting the tunnel; they are very reactive to light" Kabuto said "grab onto the back of each others shirts and follow me".
Naruto turned off his red lightning and Yuui canceled her white lightning; now the group was in total darkness and they all grabbed the person in front of them.
"Ok, lets go" Yuui said; everyone began to slowly move across the ground as they tried to stealthily move past the sleeping bats. The entire time they did so the bats above them continued to squeak and stir and everyone was on edge trying to not set them off; as the group neared the end of the hall Yuui who was at the rear of the group took another step and felt something inder her foot 'what did i just-' she began.
A trip flared shot off of the ground and shot to the ceiling in a bright light that blinded everyone; the flare hit a bat making it screech loudly and waking up the other bats.
"HOLY CRAP" Mayui shouted "RUN"; Naruto and the others didn't waste a second as they got up and began rushing through the tunnels while following Kabuto. Naruto activated his red lightning again in order to illuminate the tunnels and looked behind them.
Naruto saw the tunnel was full of bats and Naruto felt fear rush through his system "oh man, oh man" Naruto said as he reached into his pouch and took out a kunai with an explosive tag "guys, cover your ears". Everyone seeing what Naruto was doing covered their ears as Naruto threw the kunai at the large group of bats that was chasing him; the kunai reached the group and exploded killing several dozen bats and sending a loud echo through the tunnel.
However this did not kill all of the bats and Naruto cursed in his mind "here, let me try" Yuui said as she took out 4 shuriken and spun around and threw them towards the bats. The 4 shuriken spread out and Yuui began to go through hand signs "Lightning Style: Lightning Boom" Yuui said before aiming her hands at the shuriken just as they contacted the walls of the tunnel.
The shuriken stuck into the tunnel walls and when the lightning hit the steel weapons a chain reaction happened between all 4; a net of lightning appeared effectively blocking the tunnel and shocking any bat that got near it.
"Woah, that's pretty cool" Naruto said amazed at the jutsu and Yuui looked at him with a smile.
"I made that jutsu myself you know" Yuui said "took me a couple tries but-"; as Yuui was explaining her jutsu the bats began to squirm through, albeit heavily burned from the lightning and continued to chase them. "Oh come on; I was just bragging about it" Yuui whined as she continued running 'man, I wanted to look cool; stupid giant bats'.
"Kabuto, where is that door?" Koyoi shouted as he ran beside him.
"Up ahead on the left" Kabuto said as he and the group turned left and ran down another tunnel; as they ran a yellow door sat at the end of the hall "someone go and open it".
"I got it" Koyoi said as he darted forward towards the door; as he reached the door there was little time for error as he pulled out the key and shoved it into the lock. Upon turning the key the lock did not want to unlock "shit, it's a fake door" Koyoi shouted back to his group.
Upon reaching the door everyone looked at it in disbelief and horror "damn it" Naruto shouted before turning around and seeing the swarm of bats rushing towards them "ok guys; let me thin them out". Naruto summoned out one of his collapsible Fuma Shuriken and opened it; just as Naruto was about to share it with lightning chakra the something rushed into the group of bats.
"LEAF HURRICANE" came a shout and a powerful torrent of air blasted through the tunnel and Naruto and his group had to cover their eyes; upon opening them Naruto and Yakumo both saw Lee in a taijutsu stance standing in the middle of the tunnel with dozens of bats lying around him. "Naruto, Yakumo, my youthful comrades; I am here to help" Lee said giving them a shining smile.
"Bushy brows" "Lee" Naruto and Yakumo shouted in excitement; Yuui and her team were on guard but seeing that Naruto knew Lee they relaxed slightly. As more bats rushed came down the tunnel, 2 more blurs flashed through the gap made by Lee and both Tenten and Neji appeared.
Tenten opened a scroll and upon doing so hundreds of senbon shot towards the bats taking out another large amount of them. Neji using his Byakugan ran forward and began to use his gentle fist to start taking out the bats with precise single strikes; Lee seeing this rushed in to help out his teammate.
"Hell yeah" Naruto said as he charged his Fuma shuriken with lightning chakra "Lets take these flying rats out"; Naruto threw his shuriken towards the bats and the results were dozens of bats being chopped in half. Naruto used his static strings brought it back and sliced up another couple dozen before it returned to his hand.
As his lightning died down the tunnel was littered with hundreds of dead bats and everyone was breathing hard; Naruto catching his breath spoke up "oh man am I glad to see you guys" Naruto said breaking the silence.
Lee, Tenten and Neji all turned and looked at him; Lee and Tenten both gave him smiles while Neji seemed indifferent "we're glad to see you too Naruto" Tenten said as she put away her used scroll. Tenten ran over and gave both Naruto and Yakumo a hug "I was so worried about you guys" she said as both Naruto and Yakumo gave her a hug back.
"Yeah I was worried about you guys too" Naruto said as they broke the hug.
"Naruto, Yakumo, are you ok?" Lee said as he walked over with a smile "I heard the shouting and the explosion and ran over as soon as I could; I didn't know it was you, but I'm glad I arrived in time".
"Wait" Yuui said stopping Lee "you came to help, even though you had no idea who you were helping?"
"Of course" Lee said with a smile "it would be most unyouthful to not help strangers in their time of need"; Yuui and her team were surprised at this as they had no idea that someone, especially a ninja thought this way.
"You should've left them to their own devises Lee" Neji said speaking up for the first time and everyone turned to him "less people to make it to the next exam would be more advantageous to us".
"Don't mind Neji guys" Naruto said looking to Yuui, Mayui and Koyoi "he's always been a prick".
"Watch your mouth peasant" Neji said in a warning tone "you seem to forget your place; not to mention, associating with their kind".
"Hey, hold it there you racist prick" Mayui said "i get we're from different villages but that's uncalled for"; Neji hearing this looked at her and spoke.
"I wasn't talking about-" Neji began until Lee cut him off.
"Neji, discriminating against someone because of their skin color is not right" Lee said crossing his arms "that is most unyouthful and should not be accepted; everyone is equal".
"I'd listen to your friend here dude" Yuui said with an angry look on her face.
"I'm not racist you imbeciles" Neji protested.
"Will everyone shut up and focus" Tenten said "let's just get out of these tunnels and get this exam over with".
"You're right Tenten" Naruto said "alright, did you guys see a red door?"; Naruto pulled out a red key and Tenten spoke up
"Yeah we did" Tenten said as she turned around and pointed "back the way we came; we had to skip it because we didn't have a red key".
"Alright, lets go see if we can get out that way" Naruto said and everyone nodded "lead the way".
Yuui seeing that the group about to leave turned around to get Kabuto "ok dude lets-" Yuui began until she paused "umm… guys". Everyone looked at her and Yuui pointed to nothing and spoke "where the hell did that Kabuto guy go?" Yuui asked and everyone began to look around as Kabuto apparently vanished into thin air.
With Kabuto
In another part of the tunnel Kabuto rose from the ground using a earth jutsu and got to his feet; Kabuto flicked on a flashlight and smirked 'so that's the Raikage's daughter huh?' Kabuto thought as he looked back in the direction he came from 'it might be difficult… but not impossible'. 'I best inform Lord Orochimaru and come up with a plan' Kabuto thought before walking off into the darkness of the tunnels.
In the jonin lounge: With Anko, Kurenai and Kakashi
Anko, Kurenai and Kakashi were all looking at the t.v screen and they all saw the same thing; Kabuto escaped from Naruto and his group with relative ease and it seemed off.
Kabuto who according his records is a below average genin who failed the exams multiple times has escaped from custody; not only did he escape while restrained, but he escaped from a one way tunnel, surrounded by multiple ninja and even a Hyuga.
"Did you guys see what I saw?" Anko asked and both Kurenai and Kakashi nodded.
"Yeah I did" Kakashi said as he got to his feet and scooted his chair back in "I'm going to go and find the Hokage; something isn't right".
"We'll keep an eye on Naruto, Yakumo and the others" Kurenai said and Kakashi nodded.
"Alright" Kakashi said as he walked away not trying to draw suspension.
"Failed seven times my ass" Anko said as she looked back at Naruto and his crew as they unlocked a door and walked through "there's no way a genin can pull that off; hell I'd have a hard time pulling that off".
"Keep your eyes peeled Anko" Kurenai said as she began to look around at the dozens of other jonin present "I have a bad feeling about this".
Back with Naruto and the others
Naruto, Yuui, Yakumo, Mayui, Koyoi, Lee, Tenten and Neji, all ran down another long dark tunnel as they tried to find the end of it; so far this tunnel has been different as the tunnel was straight without any other tunnels that branch off into another direction.
"What is up with this tunnel?" Naruto asked and everyone looked at him "where are the other tunnels, why are we only going straight?"
"This feels like a trap" Mayui said "but if this was a trap then why haven't we been attacked?"
"I don't know" Tenten said joining the conversation; Tenten looked over to Neji and spoke "hey Neji, can you use your Byakugan and scout ahead?"
Neji nodded and made a hand sign 'Byakugan'; Neji scouted ahead using his dojutsu and after a few seconds he spoke up "I see a large door up ahead; but it's not like the ones we've been using".
"Huh; what do you mean?" Lee asked and Neji looked at him.
"I mean it's a lot larger than the other doors" Neji said to his green clad teammate "and since we didn't get a key I don't think we can open it".
"Well I guess we'll just have to see" Yuui said as she looked over to Naruto "but I have to say, I wonder how that Kabuto guy got away; I mean… how is that possible".
"Bah… screw it" Naruto said waving her off "if four eyes wants to wander in the dark by himself then so be it; no skin off my bones".
"I guess you're right" Yuui said with a shrug; as the group neared the door that Neji was talking about they all stopped and looked at it. On the wall next to it there was a large red button "I guess we press the button?" Yuui said unsure.
"I'll do it" Yakumo said as she walked up slowly; with everything that happened so far she thought this would be a trap. As Yakumo slowly reached out she used her finger to push the button before jumping back and standing next to Naruto.
There was then some fan fair from a hidden speaker and a voice spoke up "Congratulations, you made it to the finish line; please come on in" said the voice; everyone went wide eyed at this and the doors open revealing lights on the inside. Everyone turned off their flashlight and their jutsu and slowly walked towards the door.
Upon completely entering the room the doors behind them closed and they were greeted by the proctor Suzui "welcome everyone; I'm assuming that everyone is with their original team?" Suzui asked and everyone nodded and went into separate groups "ok then teams please?"
Yuui walked up and spoke "Team Tonoi all present" Yuui said with a smile.
Naruto walked up and spoke "Team Anko and Kurenai present" Naruto said wrapping his arm around Yakumo who smiled and nodded.
Lee jumped forward and spoke "Team Guy reporting in mam" Lee said with pride.
Suzui smiled and spoke "well congrats to all of you; you made it here in eight hours and forty one minutes" she said and everyone nodded "sadly you are not the first, as a Suna team made it here in one hour and eleven minutes".
Naruto went wide eyed and spoke "seriously, which one?" Naruto asked and Suzui spoke.
"The one with the red head boy, the blonde girl and the boy in the cat costume" Suzui said and Naruto and Yuui felt a chill roll down their spines "now then, please follow the tunnel behind me to the waiting area; once there please wait until the beginning of the second exam".
"Alright, we did it" Naruto cheered with a bright smile "we kicked ass and passed, we're so awesome".
"Yay, we passed the first exam" Yuui cheered as well "oh man I can't wait to tell daddy how we did; he'll be so proud".
"And I cannot wait to tell Guy sensei" Lee said with a smile "all those years of hard work have finally payed off".
"Lets just wait until the second exam" Koyoi said bringing everyone back to reality "it's not over; don't break out the champagne yet"; Naruto, Yuui and Lee all blushed in embarrassment and Naruto spoke.
"Y-yeah, good point" Naruto said while rubbing the back of his head "lets get going guys"; Naruto and everyone else all began to walk down the tunnel behind Suzui as they made their way to the second location of the chunin exams.
Three hours later: With Naruto and the others
Naruto said playing cards with Koyoi, Yuui and Tenten as they were killing time until the next exam; so far only 23 teams have arrived including Naruto, Yuui and Lee's teams.
The Suna ninja Gaara arrived first and has been waiting with team for nearly the entire time the exam has been going on; there were several other teams as well but Naruto only counted the ones who mattered in his opinion.
Haku arrived before Naruto did which was not surprising to him; Sasuke, Sakura and Sai arrived after Naruto and his team arrived as did Hinata, Shino, Kiba, Shikamaru, Ino and Choji. The Oto team that gave Naruto weird vibes also arrived and hasn't really communicated with anyone; and what was even more surprising was the fact that Oboro and his team arrived as well. Along with that and much to Yuui and Mayui's disappointment Hiyui, Terui and Roi arrived as well.
As they waited the doors opened once more and everyone turned to see who came along; Naruto, Yuui and the others all nearly jumped to their feet when they saw Kabuto and 2 others dressed like him walk through.
"Oh boy, arrived with only five minutes to spare" Kabuto said rubbing the back of his head; Kabuto looked over to Naruto and his group and gave them a smile "hey guys, long time no see".
"What the hell?" Naruto said jumping to his feet "how the hell did you get away from us; we were at the end of a tunnel?"
"A magician never reveals his tricks" Kabuto said making Naruto fume; but before Naruto could speak Suzui walked in and began to speak.
"Alright then, no more genin will be allowed to enter so we will now begin the second phase of the exam" Suzui said; everyone got to their feet and looked at her awaiting further instructions "now I will introduce you to your new proctor… Killa Bee".
Suddenly there was a puff of smoke and Bee appeared "yo, yo, kiddio's about time we got the second exam on the way" Bee said standing proud and looking at the group in front of him "seems like we got sixty six of you in here; a nice even number". Bee looked around and saw Yuu and smiled "hey there little Yuyu, how's my baby niece doing?" Bee asked.
"I'm not a baby anymore uncle Bee" Yuui said rolling her eyes "I'm nearly as tall as you and dad now".
"You'll always be a baby to me little lady" Bee said with a chuckle and Yuu groaned "but don't think that because I'm your uncle I'm gonna do you any favors; this part of the exams is going to be a real pain in the ass". "The next exam is going to be something new and never done before" Bee said making the entire room curious "thanks to all the egg heads in the Kumo research and development department ; this will be the first exam where it's held within a genjutsu". The entire room went wide eyed and confused except for Yakumo who had a jolt of excitement run through her body.
"What?" Yakumo said in excitement "an entire exam held within a genjutsu; how is that possible, who invented it?"; Bee turned to her and spoke.
"Patience little lady" Bee said with a smile "anyway this is a new form of training being determined by the researchers so you're going to be the lab rats for it". "This exam will consist of various mission type scenarios within a genjutsu; each scenario will be completely randomized" Bee said "and each team will have to go through three scenarios; which means for those who don't have three members… well rock, paper, scissors for it then". "Only those who pass their scenario get to move on; if you fail, you get cut" Bee said "but on the bright side, you don't have to worry about dying in this portion".
"Oh man, this sounds like fun" Naruto said kind of excited as he looked around 'I wonder what scenario I'll get'; when Naruto looked to Bee again he was standing next to an electronic board.
"This will randomly generate names for the exam, when I call your names please step forward" Bee said as the board flashed through names and everyone focused. When the board stopped Bee spoke up "first team will be the following six people: Hinata Hyuga, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Yuui, Kabuto Yakushi and Sabaku no Gaara" he said "all of you come and stand by my right".
Naruto and Yuui walked over and stood at Bee's right along with the others; Hinata stood nervously next to Naruto and Naruto looked to her and smiled.
"Hey Hinata, glad to see you here" Naruto said with a bright smile; Hinata blushed and poked her fingers together.
"T-t-thank you N-N-Naruto" Hinata said with a stutter.
"Now then, time for the second team" Bee said as the board began to flash through names until stopping; Naruto looked on as a random Iwa genin, 2 Konoha genin, 1 Suna genin, and 2 Kumo genin all walked forward. "Ok then, both teams are decided" Bee said as he made a hand sign; a genjutsu was lifted and a door appeared "head into the rooms and lay down on the beds".
Naruto and the others all proceeded to walk into the room that appeared and upon doing so they say 12 beds with people standing next to them; Naruto thought this was a little odd but moved over to a bed and laid down on it. The woman standing next to the bed walked over and placed 2 coin sized objects on his temples.
"This is to help with the genjutsu" the woman said and Naruto nodded.
"What ever you say" Naruto said as he laid back; once everyone was on the bed the people who were standing next to them walked over and placed their hands on the coin sized objects.
"Ok then, starting in three… two… one…" The woman said as Naruto looked at her; everything was fine to Naruto until he felt light headed and everything went dark.
……
Naruto opened his eyes and saw he was standing up and in a forest that reminded him of Konoha; Naruto looked around and saw that Yuui, Hinata, Sasuke, and Gaara were all with him. Naruto then realized that their cloths were now different colors; all their cloths were now the same shades of blue and white.
"Woah" Naruto said as he moved his body "this feels like it's real". 'This is almost as powerful as Yakumo's genjutsu' Naruto thought before chuckling 'but at least this time I don't have to worry about dying or fighting her Ido'.
"I know right" Yuui said as she threw several punches "are we really in a genjutsu?"
"Yes you are my little Yuyu" came Bee's disembodied voice making everyone look around in astonishment .
"This is unbelievable" Kabuto said not believing anything that was happening "this level of genjutsu is astonishing; I wonder how they were able to do this?"
"Who cares" Sasuke said making everyone look at him "lets just get this over with".
"Anyone who does not want to die" Gaara said as he looked at the others "stay out of my way".
Before Naruto and Yuui could say anything Bee's voice came again "alright then everyone; first round of the second phase of the chunin exam" Bee's voice said "first combat scenario; team death match, red team vs blue team". Upon hearing this everyone went wide eyed "first team to get seventy five points or whoever has the most points wins; you have five minutes to win this exam".
Naruto, Yuui, Kabuto, Sasuke and Gaara all got ready to fight "all right then children" Bee's voice said "let the second phase of the chunin exams…BEGIN".
A buzzer went off and Naruto and Yuui dashed off from the group staying together the entire time "hey Yuui, wanna tag team these chumps?" Naruto asked her and Yuui smiled as she ran beside Naruto.
"Yeah, lets kick their butts" Yuui said with confidence; Naruto nodded and smiled.
"Hell yeah" Naruto said clenching his fists "lets do this".
Ok another chapter done; I hope you all enjoyed it. So yeah the second phase of the chunin exams is going to be a play on call of duty multiplayer; I mean if Madara can put the entire world into a genjutsu and Yakumo can make genjutsu that does real damage, why can't they use it to make battle simulations. I got the idea from Dragon ball when both Gohan and Krillin were using their minds to have mock battles with each other on their way to Namek.
