A/N: This was a request from HMG2000. There will be a Hank version to this as well. This takes place now but Ed, Al and Justin are all still around, Antonio is still with Intelligence, Kat is still with SVU, Erin is with SVU, Chief Garland is still around but Stabler never came back. I don't own any characters except my own.
Olivia's High School Reunion
Things had been going well for Olivia. She was a Captain with the NYPD and she had the best family ever. She and Hank had been married for 6 almost 7 years and they had 2 amazing kids. Olivia had gotten pregnant with her and Hank's daughter soon after they met. She normally wouldn't have attended her high school reunion because she had no desire to and she wasn't the most popular girl in their class. She really only had a few friends and she did see one of them quite often, since she was a cop too and worked with Hank. Olivia was a lot more confident than she was 35 years ago. As soon as they arrived, Hank had gotten a call from Justin, so he stayed in the car, while Olivia went inside. She wanted to stop in the washroom first. Olivia went in and went to the washroom. She checked her hair and makeup and then she went to wait for Hank. One of the girls in her class had come in. She used to give her a hard time because she never had many friends and because her mom was an alcoholic. Olivia would have no problems arresting her now.
"Look, who's here. Olivia Benson."
"Brittany."
"Can we sit for a minute?"
"Sure."
Brittany and Olivia sat down.
"You and I really weren't all that different."
"How's that?"
"My dad died when I was 7 and my sister was 10 and our mom remarried when I was 10 and my sister was 13. My stepdad was an alcoholic but he claimed he couldn't work for whatever reason. My mom couldn't even get him to stop. She had support him, so he could sit home on his ass, drink, smoke weed, read/watch porn, gamble and screw around behind my mom's back. She tried divorcing him but he threatened to clean out her checking account if she did. He hated that I had a boyfriend but I felt so safe when I was with Jared because I knew he'd never let anything happen to me. He lived down the street, so when I couldn't take things at home, I went there. Every time when I'd come home, there would be another car in front of our house. My behavior towards my peers got worse as I got into my teenage years but mostly once I got to high school. I didn't like the person I had become but that wasn't until we were done with school. I was wrong for treating you and the others the way I did and for that, I apologize."
"Did he ever rape you?"
"He tried when I was 18. I asked my sister if he had done anything to her and she said no. I had been with Jared and I already knew I was pregnant. We told my mom and Jared's parents that we wanted to get married, which we didn't have to because we were already 18, so we could have just eloped. My mom was at work and knew I was going to pack my things, as I was leaving home to be with Jared. We were meeting Jared and his parents later to head to the courthouse to make it official. Jared was meeting me at the house. When I was in my room, my stepdad came in and asked me what I was doing. I told him I was moving out but he said I couldn't. We never got a change to officially celebrate my 18th birthday. I told him I wasn't interested. He called me a slut and a whore as he slapped me. He started to undo his pants and he said wanted to make one of us his. I fought him off the best I could and then Jared came in. Jared hit him in the head with a lamp but that didn't phase him at all. He went into his and my mom's room and got his gun. He killed the love of my life right in front of me. I ran out of the house to his parents' house and told them what happened. The police were called but by the time they got there, he had turned the gun on himself. Obviously so he didn't have to spend time in prison. The baby was the only thing that kept me from wanting me to end things. My mom said she blamed herself for this but Jared's parents didn't blame her for what had happened nor did they blame me. We moved into a new place to start over but how was I going to start over trying to raise my kid on my own? Jared and I were supposed to be doing this together. It wasn't easy but with the help of his parents, my mom and sister, I was able to get through the rest of the pregnancy and gave birth to little Jared, who's not so little anymore. He looks just like his dad. When Jared was 5, I met my husband, who is such an amazing man. He and Jared hit it off the moment they met and Rob also hit it off with both families. Rob's parents loved Jared from the moment they met him too. Growing up, he loved having all these grandparents. Everyone got a long great. Rob asked Jared's parents if it was ok for him to adopt Jared. Once Rob and I started having a family, they were still a big part of our lives. Rob and I dated for a couple years before we decided to get married and then on our honeymoon, I got pregnant with Paige. A couple years after that, Ashley was born and then 2 years later, we had Robbie. Even though the boys are 12 years apart, they are still pretty close. The 4 kids know what happened and the 3 younger ones know that Dad adopted Jared when we got married. Jared is now married and has a couple kids."
"I am so sorry. I've tried avoiding any reunions until now."
"I have too, actually. I'm trying to avoid going in there because I blame myself for what happened to Jared."
"He was protecting you and his son. I see situations like what you went through with my job every day. You're lucky your stepfather didn't do something to harm the baby."
"I know I am. My son became my entire world until I met Rob and had the other 3. I went through therapy and all that. I still go sometimes. I didn't know how to deal with coming here, so I went for another session yesterday. I take it you're a cop."
"I am. I'm a Captain with the NYPD and I head the Special Victims Unit. My husband is a cop and Hilary is a cop too. She and my husband are in the same unit."
"Wow! I hope one day you can forgive me for the way I treated you and everyone else. None of my so-called friends other than Jared knew what I had been through at home and after graduation, I didn't really keep in contact with anyone."
"Other than Hilary and Pat, I haven't kept in touch with anyone either."
"Are they still together?"
"They are. I lost track of Jen though."
"I saw her maybe 10 years ago. Jared had his appendix removed and she was the nurse. We talked then. She said Pat was one of the surgeons there but I guess he was on vacation at the time Jared was there."
Then Hank came in.
"Hey, Babe. Sorry about that."
"No problem. How are Justin and the family?"
"They're fine. They send their love. He was going to give Ed a call, so he could talk to Noah and Carly."
"They'll get to see their big brother next weekend."
"Yep."
"Hank, this is Brittany. Brittany, this is my husband Hank."
"Hi. It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
"Is your husband coming?"
"That's who I'm waiting for."
"Ok."
"You ready for this, Babe?"
"No, not really."
Hank took Olivia's hand and they went in. Olivia and Hank sat down at a table and then Hank went to get some drinks. While Hank was at the bar, someone came up to Olivia.
"Olivia?"
"Hey, Jen. How are you?"
"I'm great. I saw you talking to Brittany."
"She told me everything. She said she talked to you about 10 years ago."
She did. I do feel bad for her and she seemed sincere."
"I'm usually good at knowing if someone is lying or not."
"I didn't think she was. What's going on with you?"
"After college, I did the Police Academy. I've been a cop ever since. I'm a Captain now and I head the Special Victims Unit."
"That's awesome! So, then you deal with sexual assaults and all that."
"That is exactly what I do. It has a lot to do with what happened to my mother."
"Is she still around?"
"No. She died over 20 years ago. She was coming out of a bar and fell down the subway stairs. She died doing what she did best. I often wonder if she would have been happy with how my life turned out."
"Do you have kids?"
"I do. Noah is 8 and adopted and then Carly is 6. Noah's adoption was finalized a few months before I gave birth to Carly. Hank has two grown kids. Erin is from a one night stand and Justin is from his first marriage. Justin is married and has 2 kids and twins on the way. Daniel is just a few months older than Carly and Kayla is 3. The twins are due around Christmas. They're girls. Erin is married and has an 18-month old daughter Kelsey"
Olivia pulled up a picture of the kids on her phone.
"Beautiful family."
"Thanks."
"Do they have any names picked out yet?"
"Emily and Hannah.
Then Hank came back
"Here."
"Thanks, Honey. Jen, this is my husband Hank Voight. Hank, this is Jennifer Sanders."
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too. It's actually Langan now."
"Did you say your last name is Langan?"
"Yes."
"Your husband wouldn't be Trevor, would it?"
"It is. You know him?"
"I've known him for years. He's the lawyer that helped us with the adoption. He was one of the Defense Attorneys we went up against multiple times over the years."
Oh, wow! Small world. He's glad he gave up being a Defense Attorney. What do you do, Hank?"
"I'm a cop too."
"Do you work together?"
"We do sometimes. Until we got married, I was in Chicago. I transferred out here and I head Organized Crime. I headed the Intelligence Unit in Chicago. They are pretty similar."
"Hank is a Lieutenant."
"I went to Nursing School and I work on the surgical floor. Here's our 6-year old son, Trevor or TJ as we call him."
"He's handsome like his dad."
"He is. We've only been married 6 almost 7 years. I was never interested in marriage and a family until I met Trevor. It was risky but I'm glad I got to experience it."
"I've wanted a family for a while but I never met the right one until I met Hank. I became a foster mother to Noah and met Hank not too long after that. We hit it off and I ended up pregnant pretty quickly. I completely understand what you're going through. How did you and Trevor meet?"
"His dad was in the hospital and he came to see him. We hit it off and the rest is history."
"Will he be here?"
"He'll be here a little later. Are you on call tonight?"
"No. My second in command is quite capable of handling things. Hank's reunion is next weekend, so we will head to Chicago for that."
"We should get together sometime, so the kids can have a playdate."
"That would be great."
Then Trevor came in and kissed Jen before he sat down.
"Good. Someone I actually know."
"I guess I don't know much about you after all."
"I try to keep my personal life and my work life separate but I'm ok with you knowing. TJ was born around the same time as Carly."
"I told Olivia we should get together sometime, so the kids can have a playdate."
"That works for me."
"Your son definitely looks like you, Langan."
"I've been hearing that since the day he was born. Carly looks so much like you."
"She does."
"She's feisty like her mother too."
"She has your stubbornness though."
"I won't deny that. Justin is stubborn and Erin is stubborn. So far, all the grandchildren are all Voight.
"This night is going to be better than I expected."
"Me too. This is the first reunion I have come too."
"Same with me."
Then Hilary came over to them.
"Captain, Lieutenant."
"Sergeant."
"I find that weird that we went to school together including college and the Police Academy and you're a Captain. Not that you didn't earn it."
"I never wanted to be a Lieutenant. I'm not in it for this political side of it. You, Pat and Jen were probably the only real friends I had. Although I haven't seen Jen in a while. She's married to one of the lawyers I have known for years."
"Small world."
"No kidding. I find it funny that you work with Hank."
"He's a great boss.
"Thanks."
"Sure. Jen works with Pat."
"Actually, I had heard that from Brittany when we talked."
"I ran into her out there and she asked if we could talk later."
"Where's Pat?"
"He hit the bar already."
Then Pat came over with drinks for everyone.
"This is the fun table. I feel like I don't know most of these people anymore."
"This is the first reunion I've been to."
"Us too. I'm either working or she's working."
"I knew you and Hilary were going to be here and she had mentioned that Jen was supposed to be here too, so that's what made me decide to show up. We have Hank's 40th next weekend. Since the kids don't have school on Friday, we're leaving then, so we can spend some time with Justin and his family."
"I'm in charge with Hank gone."
"Does your son work?"
"He's into computers. For right now, he answers calls for Intelligence and helps them get info. When I moved here after Olivia and I got married, I didn't sell my house. Justin and his family live there. I had a feeling he wanted to raise his kids where he was raised but it's getting a little small now with #3 and #4 on the way, since there are only 3 bedrooms. We're trying to convince them to come here. Chief Garland told us that there's an opening in TARU if he's interested and I told him that. We will help them find a place here and our Nanny will help them take care of the kids. We get it may not be until after this school year ends because they don't necessarily want to move Daniel in the middle of the school year. We're planning to go to Chicago for both Thanksgiving and Christmas, so the entire family can be together, since Olive won't be able to travel."
"All of our kids will be here anyway, so it's not a problem. Pat probably has to work."
"No doubt."
"I usually get stuck working but I would like to spend time with TJ while he's still young.
"My former unit has been amazing. My best friend's wife helps take care of the kids right now. I've actually been thinking about retiring. I still have 4 years until I am 62 but I have the time in."
"Olivia, you're ok with this?"
"Oh yeah. I told him that I would support him no matter what he decided to do. I have the time in but have 9 years yet. I may wait, especially since we still have young kids. In 9 years they'll both be high school age, so that would be a better time"
"If Pat was planning to retire, I'd consider it too but what's the point? Our kids are all over, so if he's still working, we can't really travel."
"I'd probably retire around the same time as you."
"I could retire now and be a stay at home mom if I wanted to."
"I've heard from a lot of my patients that you're one of the best floor nurses in the Surgical Unit."
"That's good to hear."
"My Sergeant knows to contact me only if they need me."
"Technically I'm in charge, so Pat knew not to get me any alcohol."
"Usually 1 or 2 drinks doesn't bother either of us."
"Do you ever get scared you'll end up like your mom?"
"All the time. I want to be a better mom to Noah and Carly than my mother was to me."
"Do you get along with Hank's kids?"
"Oh yeah. His daughter Erin is in my unit and Justin calls me Mom, which I never expected but he chose to on his own. His kids call me Grandma."
"You're divorced?"
"Widowed. She died from ovarian cancer 11 years ago."
"I'm so sorry."
"Thanks. Justin and I grew farther apart after his mom died but Olivia and his wife Olive helped us repair our relationship. He really grew up after he got into the Army and became a dad. Erin moved here a couple years after I did. She had just broken off the relationship she was in. She met Luke, who's a great guy and a firefighter. They're now married and they have an 18-month old daughter, who is every bit like her mother. They're expecting a son in March. Erin doesn't always have the best relationship with her mother but we're all more civil than we used to be because of our granddaughter. Bunny moved to New Jersey to be closer to Erin but she really doesn't see Kelsey all that much. Most of that is Erin's doing. Bunny has a history of drug and alcohol problems and she's been married 5 times. She has tried to get Erin down the wrong path. Erin had befriended this girl Nadia and she helped her get cleaned up. They became best friends and roommates and Nadia had become the administrative person for Intelligence. Nadia had been kidnapped by Greg Yates and was tracked here. We found her dead in a shallow grave in a wooded area at one of the beaches."
"I remember that case."
"I remember hearing about it."
"Yates had chosen to represent himself in court and started saying that I had forced myself on her, which was why I abruptly left Chicago. I would never do that to someone. I didn't abruptly leave Chicago either. I left because I needed to be where my wife was and that's here."
"I could have chosen to move to Chicago too but Hank said he'd move here. If I had been the one to relocate, it wouldn't have been until after the adoption had been finalized but I would have lost our Nanny. We fell hard for each other early on. I was not disappointed when it finally did happen between us. We had agreed to try to be in a long distance relationship. He and Noah hit it off right away and Justin and I did too. When I told him I was pregnant, we got married almost right away. We went on a honeymoon and then he pretty much started moving his stuff out here. We also found a bigger place. He didn't move any of his furniture. Just before we got married, he checked to see if there were any openings here and I told him that Organized Crime was looking for someone but warned him about Tucker."
"I like this version of Tucker a lot more. He's not such a douchebag."
"No, he is not. He was really supportive of everything we had gone through with Noah's adoption and with what happened to Dodds and he and Hank get along pretty well. I kind of compared Hank to Elliot Stabler when we first met. I know Hank isn't perfect but he's definitely not as arrogant as Elliot was. Elliot liked to throw temper tantrums, which he did quite often and had a huge ego. Ed is actually watching the kids for us tonight."
"I never would have expected that."
"He's good with the kids. Lucy already had plans. Billie has been sick, so I didn't want to ask Rollins and Carisi was hanging out with them. Fin and Phoebe were babysitting for Jaden. Kelsey has had an ear infection, so we didn't want to ask Erin. Patty had to work and her sons were staying with friends, so he offered."
"That's great. It's quite obvious that Rollins and Carisi like each other."
"Oh, yeah. They have for a while."
"I remember Elliot had a reputation of being a hothead but I was not impressed."
"Neither was I and I worked with him. I have referred to him as the poster boy for rage to his face. Hank does have a short fuse too but he tries to control it."
"He's been pretty good. There are times when you can tell he wants to smack someone and honestly, I wouldn't blame him if he did. None of us would."
"He knows what'll happen if he does and I find out about it, don't you?"
"Yes, Dear."
"What happens?"
"She arrests me."
Then Hilary started laughing.
"Oh, that's funny. I wouldn't say anything and I don't think anyone else would either."
"She can't resist me."
"You're not wrong about that. As far as I'm concerned, Elliot Stabler is dead to me and has been for years. He's the one that ceased all contact with me after he just up and left."
"You'd think you would have heard from him after the William Lewis thing."
"Exactly."
"I always thought he was pretty full of himself and it's not like I didn't have to deal with him because I was representing suspects quite a bit."
"I used to think you were pretty full of yourself too but you turned out to be a good guy."
"You're not so bad yourself, Captain."
Brittany and her husband had come in and sat with them. She and Hilary talked and a lot of their classmates were surprised to see her with the ones she had been so mean to in high school. The food had come out and then everyone ate. During the remainder of the evening, other classmates had come over to see them and a lot of them had thanked Olivia, Hank and Hilary for their service to the City. Quite a few of them had heard about Olivia's ordeal with William Lewis on the news. Brittany had told the rest of their classmates about Jared, which she knew would be hard.
Before everyone left and headed home, the ones in the area agreed to get together more often. When Hank and Olivia arrived at their house, they went in. They took their jackets off and went into the living room. Ed had his eyes closed and the kids were asleep next to him. Olivia shook Ed's shoulder to wake him up.
"Hey. How'd it go?"
"It went better than I thought. How were they?"
"They were fine. They ate their dinner and then they wanted to watch a movie. I said it was ok as long as they got ready for bed first. They were out before the movie was over."
"We really appreciate this."
"No problem. I should get home."
Ed got up, put his jacket on and left. Hank locked up and then they headed upstairs with the kids to put them in their respective beds. They went into their bedroom to get ready for bed and then once they had finished in the bathroom, they got into bed and made love before falling asleep in each other's arms.
To be continued with Hank's reunion…
