A/N: I may eventually do another chapter related to this one and the last one. I don't own any of the characters except my own.
Hank's High School Reunion
Friday arrived and Hank, Olivia and the kids left for Chicago. When they arrived, they got their luggage and went to get their rental before heading to the hotel to get checked in. Once they were checked in, they went over to the 21st and went in.
"Hey, Trudy."
"Hi Auntie Trudy!"
"Hey. You ready for tomorrow?"
"Yeah. We're planning to go on the tour of the school and then to the football game with the kids. I'm kind of excited. You and Mouch are coming, right?"
"Oh yeah and so are Al and Meredith. I can't believe how much these two have grown."
"I can't believe it myself sometimes."
"How'd your reunion go?"
"It went better than I expected."
"Good. How's Erin?"
"She's doin' good. Kelsey is a handful but with Erin as a mother, I'm not surprised."
"Erin hasn't been around in a while."
"We're all planning to be here for Thanksgiving and Christmas, since Olive won't be able to travel."
"Justin invited us and the Olinskys to Thanksgiving and Christmas."
"Good. What's new around here?"
"Burgess and Ruzek are married and expecting a baby and Halstead and Upton and expecting a baby but aren't married."
"Apparently Jay has a thing for his female partners but this one he knocked up, huh?"
"Yeah. Burgess is due around the same time as Olive and Upton is due at the end January."
"Erin is due with #2 in March. This one is a boy."
"That's great! Burgess and Ruzek are having a girl but the other two aren't saying what they're having."
"Is the squad here?"
"No but Justin is and so are Burgess and Upton."
Trudy walked them upstairs and let them in. They all headed up.
"Hey, Justin."
"Hey, Mom, Pop."
"Justin!"
"Hey, you two. It is so good to see you."
"You too."
Justin hugged his parents and his siblings.
"Burgess, congratulations!"
"Thanks."
"Any names picked out yet?"
"Not yet. These two are looking so grown up."
"They are growing up too fast."
"How's Erin?"
"She's doing great. Here's the latest picture of Kelsey."
"She's adorable."
"She is and she knows it but she's a little pistol."
"When is #2 due?"
"March. Erin and her family will be here for both Thanksgiving and Christmas."
"That's great. Hopefully this one will decide to make her entrance while you're here, so you can meet her before you go home."
"That would be great. Is Ruzek ready for this?"
"Yeah, I think he is."
"So, you two ready for your sleepover at our house tomorrow night?"
"Yeah!"
"Are you Olive and the kids planning to do the tour of the school and the football game with us?"
"Yeah, sure. Mom, how was your reunion?"
"It was better than I expected."
"Good. We're leaning towards moving to New York but it wouldn't be until Daniel is done with school. The question is, is that job still gonna be available?"
"TARU is always looking for people but I can just tell them that you won't be able to come out there until your son is out of school for the year."
"We wanna find a place that's close. I'd like Daniel in the same school as Carly."
"There's actually a place for sale down the street from us."
Hank told Justin the address and he looked it up.
"Oh wow! This is amazing!"
Justin sent the link to Olive.
"We'll help out if you need it. Whatever we get from the sale of the house here, you can use for your place. That was always part of the plan."
"Thanks, Pop. You too, Mom."
"No problem."
"So, Hank, does Olivia know about the Enforcer?"
"Who's the Enforcer?"
"Me. That was my nickname in high school."
"Tell me more."
"He was pretty unstoppable. He was the star linebacker on the football team all 4 years, he was the best wrestler in the school and he was also on the track team."
"Wrestling, huh? That could explain a lot and so could you being a linebacker."
Hank looked at Olivia and shook his head.
"Smart ass!"
"You love me. Admit it."
"Oh, I do. From the moment you threatened to arrest me."
Olivia smirked at Hank and them he kissed her.
"Were you actually popular?"
"No, not really. I didn't care about that."
"What were you like in high school, Trudy?"
"I played softball but other than that, I didn't do much."
"Al also played football."
"Justin, were you in any sports?"
"No."
"He was a bit of a slacker in high school. He was an average student and he knew his grades could have been better. Although my grades could have been better too."
"So, you were a typical jock then."
"Kind of. I got mostly C's and so did he but he also got some D's. Once Justin got into doing what he wanted to do after the Army, he really applied himself. I knew he'd get his act together eventually. He went to college, which I am really proud of. I did a 2-year degree and then went to the Police Academy. The same with Al and Trudy. Erin pretty much did the same thing I did. She did some college and then did the Academy."
"I definitely wanted to do right by my kids and I wanted to make you proud."
"I'm proud of you. We both are. Camille would have been proud of you too."
"We're definitely looking forward to eventually moving to New York. Maybe we'll have to make a trip out there, so we can see that place and I should probably officially interview with TARU."
Justin's phone rang, so he picked it up. It was Olive telling him she wanted to look at the place he sent the link on. Then he hung up.
"Olive wants to look at that place."
"I'll contact our Realtor and set something up. Can you come out next weekend?"
"Yeah, that shouldn't be a problem. Daniel has a half day on Friday."
Hank contacted their Realtor and set something up for Justin and Olive.
"Mommy."
"What, Baby?"
"I have to go potty."
"Ok."
"I need to go too."
Olivia took Carly to the bathroom and Noah went too."
By the time they came back, Hank was off the phone.
"We're gonna head back to the hotel for a little bit. Are we meeting somewhere for dinner?"
"That works."
"Ok. Call when you get off work."
"I will."
Hank, Olivia and the kids left and Hank drove to the cemetery after they stopped to get flowers. A few hours later, they met Justin, Olive, Daniel and Kayla for dinner. When the kids saw Hank and Olivia, they ran over to them and gave them both a big hug.
"Papa! Gramma!"
"How are my babies?"
"Good."
Daniel and Kayla hugged Noah and Carly too and then they went in as soon as Olive hugged everyone. They got a table and then they were seated. They looked at the menu and decided what they wanted. Then their order was taken.
"So, Mom, how'd your reunion go?"
"It was better than I expected it to be. I'm looking forward to Hank's."
"I haven't been to one of mine in a while."
"15 years, right?"
"Yeah. That sounds about right, since it was the one before your mom got sick."
"You never went to one by yourself?"
"Nope. I don't know that I'll keep wanting to go to mine after this one, especially once everyone is in New York. My two closest friends were Al and Trudy and I can see them whenever I want anyway."
"I have no desire to go to any of mine."
"Me neither."
"I'm glad both you and Dad wanted to go to yours. Justin and I are always happy to see you and so are the kids.
"I'm glad I went to mine but that was the first one I had ever been to."
"I think I'm ready to say goodbye to Chicago."
"I am too."
"We probably should have been looking this summer, so we could have moved before school started and the babies would be born out there."
"Yeah, that's true."
"I just hope we can get that place but I'm not going to get my hopes up. It's just that the location is perfect."
"Dad said we get whatever money from selling the house here to use towards the place out there."
"We can't move until June though."
"I explained that to our Realtor. If you like the place and make an offer on it, Olivia and I can help with whatever you need financially should you close before the place here sells."
"What if the people here want to close sooner than we can get out? I don't want to have to be living in a hotel for an extended period of time with two newborns."
"We could try long distance. You and Kayla can go out to New York and Daniel and I can stay here until he's done with school."
"So, I can take care of our newborn daughters by myself? I don't think so."
"Mom and Dad are there, so you wouldn't be completely alone."
"Lucy said she'd help out with the kids.
"I do know that the ones that own that place have already moved out. They may want to close quickly but then you'll be able to move in whenever. If there is anything that needs to be done, then I can work on it between whenever you close and when you move in."
"Are we even going to be able to afford this place? It's expensive in New York."
"We'll figure it out."
"If you're outbid, you can stay with us until you find a place. We have the room. Daniel can share with Noah and Kayla can share with Carly."
"Absolutely."
"Like I said before, we will help in any way we can. The pay should be better in New York."
"That is what I'm countin' on."
Their appetizers arrived and then the rest of the meal arrived. Once they were done eating, Hank paid the bill and then they headed home or to the hotel. They went to the pool for a while before the kids went to bed. The next day, they all got up and got ready. They met Justin and Olive for breakfast and then they headed to the high school for the tour where they met Al, Meredith, Trudy and Mouch. When Al and Meredith saw Hank, Olivia and the kids, they hugged them.
"Hey."
"Hey, yourselves."
"They're so grown up."
Yes, they are."
"How are things in New York?"
"Not too bad. I miss you and Trudy though."
"We miss you too, Man."
"Pretty soon we'll have the entire family out there."
"That's great."
"I hear Halstead and Upton are having a kid."
"Halstead needs to grow up. He has had such a chip on his shoulder since Erin left. He blames you for that."
"She left on her own. She's a big girl and she's capable of making her own decisions."
"I know that and you know that but he thinks you talked her into leaving Chicago and he should be the father of her kids. Not that other guy."
"I have no problems with Luke. I never thought Halstead was good enough for her but she's the one that finally realized she could do better and she did. If Halstead loved her as much as he claims he did, then he could have followed her to New York. He chose to stay here. That's not my fault nor is it Erin's."
"Jay and I got into a shoving match when he blamed you for Erin leaving. I told him not to disrespect my family like that."
"His comment after you left for New York was that you were the NYPD's problem now."
"I heard about that from Erin. I haven't had any problems with the NYPD."
"At first, I was concerned about your behavior especially when Ed was still with IAB but you have behaved yourself."
"You compared me to your former partner."
"I'm actually sorry I did that. Like I have said on numerous occasions, he's dead to me. He didn't care enough about me to contact me after what happened with William Lewis, so the hell with him. He was always so full of himself and I'm sure that hasn't changed. You and Ed actually became friends, which surprised me."
"I wasn't sure about him at first but he's not so bad especially since we have worked together."
They started walking around the school and then they went to the football game.
"Hey, it's the Enforcer."
"Hey!"
"How've you been, Man?"
"Not too bad, Jack. What's goin' on with you?"
"Same as always. I heard you lost your wife."
"Yeah, I did. 11 years ago. I remarried 6 almost 7 years ago. This is my wife Olivia and these two are Noah and Carly. This is Justin, my son with Camille. This is his wife Olive and their kids Daniel and Kayla. This is Jack Sweeney."
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too."
"You still a cop, Hank?"
"Yeah but I'm with the NYPD now. I transferred there after Olivia and I got married. I'm a Lieutenant and head the Organized Crime Unit and Olivia is a Captain and heads the Special Victims Unit."
"Wow! She outranks you?"
"Yep. It doesn't bother me. I need someone to put me in my place every once in a while. She's very good at that."
"Trudy and Al, you two are cops too, right?"
"Yeah. I'm with the Intelligence Unit."
"I'm at the 21st District as well. I'm the Sergeant in charge of Patrol and the Desk Sergeant. This is my husband Randall McHolland but everyone calls him Mouch."
"What's that stand for?"
"I'm a firefighter at Fire Station 51 and normally I'm in my spot on the couch in front of the TV or asleep in that same spot when we aren't at a call. Man + couch = Mouch."
"My wife could say the same thing about me but now that our kids are gone, I've turned our basement into my man cave, so that's usually where she finds me. We always had a rec room for the kids where they'd go hang out with their friends, so I didn't have to do much other than adding a bar and some other stuff along with all my sports memorabilia."
"Is your wife here?"
"No but she's coming with me later."
Everyone who was a classmate of theirs came over to say hi at some point. After the game, Hank, Olivia and the kids went back to the hotel for a while. The kids wanted to go swimming again before they went to stay with Olive and Justin, so they went to the pool for a little while. Justin was coming to get them, so once they got back up to the room, Hank made sure the kids were ready, while Olivia took a shower. Once Justin picked the kids up and Olivia was out of the shower, Hank went to take his shower. The reunion dinner was in the hotel where they were staying, so they didn't have to go too far. They had set a time to meet Al and Meredith and Trudy and Mouch. By the time the 4 of them arrived, Hank and Olivia were in the lobby.
"Hey."
"Hello."
The 6 of them headed in and saw Jack with his wife right away.
"You want to join us?"
"Sure."
"This is my wife Kim. Kim, this is Hank Voight and his wife Olivia, Alvin Olinsky and his wife Meredith and Trudy Platt and her husband Randall McHolland."
"It's nice to meet all of you."
"You too."
Olivia, Trudy and Meredith sat down, while Hank, Mouch and Al went to get them something from the bar. Olivia noticed that a guy kept watching her.
"Who's the guy over there?"
"That is David Pearson."
"He keeps watching me and it's creepy."
"He's always been a jerk."
Then the guys came back.
"I see Dave Pearson is here."
"Yep."
Then David came over to them.
"Well, well, well, look who's here. Who's this gorgeous woman?"
"My wife."
"Really? That poor woman. I'm still pissed at you for arresting me."
"You had drugs in your system, drug paraphernalia in your car and you pulled a gun on one of my Detectives. What did you expect me to do? You should have gotten more time than you did. You're probably still doing drugs because you are obviously intoxicated."
"Screw you!"
Hank got up to defend himself but David ended up punching him in the face. Hank punched him back.
"I want this asshole arrested."
"You attacked him first."
David tried going at Hank but then Al grabbed David by his shirt and Trudy put her cuffs on him before calling for a patrol car to come get him. The two of them took him outside just as the patrol car was pulling up. Trudy told them to make sure they did a check for drugs and alcohol and to let her know what the results were. Then they went back inside. Hank had ice on his face.
"You ok?"
"I will be."
"I told them to check for drugs and alcohol and to let me know what the results were. He's been doing drugs since high school. You were right for arresting him that time. Al and I were both with you when it happened."
"I would have done the same thing."
"All I wanted to do was have a good time tonight."
"He assaulted a police officer, so that doesn't look good for him."
"I wanted to bash his head into the car door but I chose not to."
"I wouldn't have blamed you if you had, Olinsky. It would have served him right."
Olivia started rubbing Hank's back. Others had come over to see if Hank was ok and then they started bringing the food out. A little while later, they showed clips of the highlights from the sports teams and a lot of them had Hank in them. Trudy got a call that David's BAC was well over the limit but they were still waiting on the drug screen. There was also a warrant out for his arrest in another state for rape, murder and other charges, including a DUI. Then she hung up.
"His BAC was well over the legal limit but they're still waiting on the drug screen. There's a warrant out for his arrest in another state for rape, murder and other charges, including a DUI."
"Did they say where?"
"California."
"I'd probably know if he was a person of interest in one of our cases. Maybe the fact that he's wanted for rape and murder could explain why he was looking at me the way he was."
"All perps are alike."
"That's true. Especially rapists."
"I don't know how you deal with people like him on a regular basis."
"It's not always easy. The hardest thing to deal with is when the victims are children. I have young kids and grandkids, my Sergeant has a young grandson and two of my Detectives have young kids, so after that, it makes all of us want to be with our families."
Olivia ended up telling Jack and his wife about William Lewis.
"We do remember hearing about that on the news."
"Hank has been so supportive."
"Were you together then?"
"No, I was living with my ex after what had happened but it didn't last too long after that. We wanted different things. I wanted marriage and a family but he didn't. Hank and I got close pretty much right away but the last thing I wanted to do was scare him off because of all the scars I have on my chest and stomach. We didn't necessarily start out on the right foot because I didn't like his interrogation methods but after I threatened to arrest him if he pulled anything like that again, we developed a mutual respect for one another. I don't think I have ever fallen for anyone that hard. One we were together, I knew he was the one. Although I did get pregnant right away too. That was the one thing I wanted more than anything. I love Noah as much as I love Carly."
"He's adopted?"
"Yeah. He was found during one of my cases and I kept attending his hearings. The Family Court Judge asked me if I wanted to foster him and of course I said yes."
Olivia told them about everything that had happened with Noah.
"I love how my life turned out and I wouldn't change it for anything or anyone. I have an amazing husband, 4 wonderful kids and I am now the proud grandma of 3 grandkids. Numbers 4, 5 and 6 are on the way. Justin took it upon himself to call me 'Mom' and Erin has a better relationship with me than she does with her mother. When Bunny finally admitted to Erin that Hank was her father, she accepted me in Erin's life. She and Hank are more civil because of our granddaughter. Erin works in my unit. Erin really doesn't want Bunny to spend time alone with Kelsey because she has had problems with drugs in the past and has tried to get Erin to go down the wrong path. She doesn't want that for her kids. Bunny did move to New Jersey to be closer to her but everything has been on Erin's terms."
"You have kids with 3 different women?"
"Yeah. I had a one night stand with Bunny before I even met Camille. She never said anything about Erin being my daughter but Erin had come to live with Camille, Justin and me when she was 15 because Bunny had drug problems. I always saw her as the daughter I never had. Justin was actually a twin but she was a stillborn. Camille and I tried having more kids but it just didn't happen. When she got sick and passed away, a part of me died too but I was able to find love again 4 years later."
"When I got pregnant by some miracle, I really wanted a little girl. It was a risky pregnancy because of my age but she's healthy and stubborn, which she gets from her daddy."
"She's feisty too and she gets that from you."
Olivia rolled her eyes and then Hank kissed her.
"How are they in school?"
"They both do really well in school."
"What kinds of activities do they like?"
"Noah liked baseball for a while but now he likes to dance and he's actually really good at it. He wasn't sure how to bring it up to Hank but Hank has been so supportive of it. He's been dancing for a couple years now. We thought Carly might want to dance too but so far, she hasn't shown any interest in it. She plays soccer and so does our grandson Daniel. Daniel has a game tomorrow, so we are planning to do that before we head to the airport. We have an early evening flight. Usually all we get to see is a video that Justin or Olive send us. We lucked out that Carly didn't have any games this weekend. The kids definitely keep our Nanny on her toes with their schedules. She'll drop Carly at soccer practice and then take Noah to his dance class. Usually one or both of us is done with work before they're done, so we can pick them up. Sometimes they will go with a friend. They both have friends that live nearby that are in the same activities. If Lucy, our Nanny, has a conflict, I'll leave early and get them at school to take them to dance or soccer. Her games are usually right after school but should be ending soon. Hank and I always try to get to as many of her games as we can. On game days, we both leave early and Hank will take Noah if it's a day he has class and then they usually get there before the game ends. Noah usually has class 3 days a week. They just had a recital a couple weeks ago and then they usually do a Holiday one. He's had a role in the Nutcracker with the older kids the last couple years, so he's hoping to be doing that again."
"Wow!"
Olivia got her phone and showed them the video from his last recital.
"He's good."
"Thank you."
"Al, do you and Meredith have kids?"
"We did. Our daughter was in a fire a few years back and died from her injuries."
"Wow! We are so sorry to hear that."
"Thanks. It's been hard. I actually have another daughter from an affair I had but I haven't seen her in a while. Meredith was able to forgive me for that. Lexi never really did but we were both with her when she died though. Hank and Olivia really helped us through what happened to Lexi. Erin called them and they came out here to be with us. Hank and I have been like brothers since we were kids, so I was glad he was here when Lexi died."
"That fire was a difficult one. They all are but we had so many young people to rescue."
"Was that the fire in that warehouse that caused 30 deaths or something like that?"
"That was the one."
"We will always be grateful to Chief Boden for going in there and getting her out."
"Alvin is right. After Lexi's death, Alvin took some time off and we went to New York and spent some time with Hank and Olivia and that actually helped us to repair our marriage. We thought about marriage counselling but Alvin is not a big talker unless it's to Hank or Trudy."
"He's had a few words for Ruzek over the years though."
"He's been comin' to me for advice on how to be a good dad. He's one of the few people who knew about Michelle besides Hank and Trudy. Hank knew when it happened. I wasn't always the best father to Lexi, so I'm not really sure what Ruzek wants me to tell him."
"I always felt that way about my relationship with Justin after Camille died. Olivia and Olive helped us repair our relationship. Sure I missed out on the first 15 years of Erin's life but that was all on Bunny and she has admitted that she was wrong for keeping Erin from me. Justin had a lot of doubts before Daniel was born. I'm glad Ruzek and Burgess are married."
"Dawson has no problems with having two couples in the unit. You were never too happy about that. Ruzek and I still work together and Burgess works with Atwater. Atwater has been working with Halstead. Both Burgess and Upton hate being on desk duty."
"So does Erin. I didn't like being on desk duty either and neither did Rollins."
"Trudy how long have you been married?"
"We got married a year after Hank and Olivia did. We met at Chief Boden's wedding."
"So, no kids?"
"No. We spend time with Justin and Olive's kids and we're Aunt Trudy and Uncle Mouch to Noah and Carly. I never really saw myself as the motherly type."
Jack and Kim told them about their family.
"Mouch, do you work tomorrow?"
"I am. I've been off since yesterday morning."
"The kids want to stop by before we head home."
"We will be there."
"Good."
"Where are you staying?"
"Upstairs."
"That was convenient."
"It was, actually."
Hank pulled out his card and wrote their address on the back.
"If you're ever in New York, give us a call. Our address is on the back."
"We might just do that. Our daughter and her family are in Boston, so maybe we can head to New York from there. Will you be around for either Holiday?"
"Actually, we'll be here for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. Olive is due around Christmas and won't be able to travel, so the whole family is coming here. The kids get the whole week off for Thanksgiving. We're coming in on Monday and leaving on Saturday. For Christmas, we will be here from the 20th through the 27th. We decided we wanted to be home for New Year's. Erin and her family will spend time with his family once we're back
"Maybe we'll see if you're around New Year's Day or something."
"That sounds like a plan."
Everyone said goodbye and left. Hank and Olivia went upstairs and made love before falling asleep in each other's arms. The next day, Hank and Olivia checked out of the hotel and then they met Justin, Olive and the kids for breakfast before heading to Daniel's soccer game. After the game, they went to the Fire Station before they headed to the airport for their trip back to New York.
The following Friday, Daniel had a half day and Justin and Olive had both taken off, so they headed straight to the airport to go to New York to look at the place Hank had shown them. Justin also had his interview with TARU. Even though they had just seen Hank, Olivia and the kids, they were looking forward to seeing them again and seeing Erin and her family as well.
