A/N: This will hopefully be the last chapter of this storyline. I don't own any of the characters.
A Celebration
Olivia had had a rough night, so she ended up moving to Noah's room, so she didn't bother Noah and Hank. She had a dream that Elliot had escaped from prison and came after Hank again. This time he had succeeded but she ended up shooting and killing Elliot, which was something she never thought she would do. Noah had slept through the night but needed to get up. Hank was with him but Olivia wasn't. He got out of bed on his own and got his crutches. He went into the bathroom and then once he was done, he went into his room and saw Olivia sleeping in his bed. He gently shook her to wake her up.
"Mom?"
"Huh?"
Olivia opened her eyes and saw her son.
"You ok?"
"I didn't sleep very well last night and I didn't want to wake you and Daddy."
"I'm sorry."
"It's not your fault. Did you get up all by yourself?"
"Yeah. I feel better but it still hurts. I put a little weight on it when I was in the bathroom."
"Good. I'll go pick you up an ankle support. I probably could have gotten one when I picked up your prescription but I didn't."
"That's ok. Can I watch TV?"
"Sure."
Olivia took her pillows and went to get Noah's pillows and Eddie. Daniel was coming out of the bathroom as she was heading back to Noah's room.
"Morning, Grandma."
"Morning, Sweetie. Do you want to watch TV with Noah?"
"Sure."
Daniel went into Noah's room with Olivia.
"Hi Noah. How are you feeling?"
"I'm better but it still hurts."
"You'll be better soon. Guess what?"
"What?"
"I scored my first goal in my soccer game the other day."
"Wow! That's great, Sweetie!
"Thanks."
"That's really awesome, Daniel!"
"Thanks."
"I'll be back."
Olivia put Noah's pillows and Eddie on his bed and then the boys put the TV on. Olivia went back into her and Hank's bedroom to use the bathroom and Hank was still asleep, which was unusual for him lately. She crawled back into bed and snuggled close to Hank. Then he woke up.
"Hey."
"Morning, my love."
She kissed him.
"I cannot wait until tomorrow when we leave."
"Me neither."
"How's Noah?"
"He slept through the night and you did too."
"I think last night was the best I have slept since all this happened."
"Good. I wish I could say the same for myself. I had a dream that Elliot escaped from prison and came after you again. This time he succeeded but I ended up shooting and killing him. I ended up sleeping in Noah's bed so I didn't disturb both of you."
"That does not sound like something you would do. That sounds more like something I'd do."
"I know and he was once someone I would have trusted with my life. I don't want to lose you. I'm still trying to get over losing Simon and Ed."
They kissed again and then Hank got up and went into the bathroom. Once he came back, he got back into bed and wrapped his arms around Olivia. Olive had gotten up and went into the bathroom before she went into Noah's room.
"How are you feeling, Noah?"
"I have a badly sprained ankle but I feel better and I was able to put a little bit of weight on it when I was in the bathroom."
"It sucks that it's a bad sprain but at least it's not broken."
"It does suck but they gave me a prescription, so I guess it did help. I can't dance for 6 weeks to give it time to heal but he said everyone is different."
"I've sprained both of my ankles a few times."
"That sucks."
"Yeah, it does. Do you want something special for breakfast?"
"French toast."
"Is French toast ok with you, Sweetie?"
"Yeah!"
"Let me go see what I can do."
"Thank you, Olive."
"You're welcome."
"Thank you, Mommy."
"You're welcome."
Olive went downstairs and went to the kitchen to see if they had the ingredients to make French toast, while Daniel and Noah watched TV. Hank and Olivia had gotten out of bed and went downstairs. As soon as they got downstairs, the doorbell rang. It was Erin, Fin, Jay, Will, Dan and Peter.
"Morning."
"Hey, Erin. Welcome back."
"Thanks. I got in about 10 last night."
"Liv, I don't mean to offend you but you look like shit."
"Thanks, Fin. I didn't sleep that great last night."
"What happened with Noah?"
"He badly sprained his ankle. Thank you for helping out."
"No problem."
"Come on in."
All of them came in.
"Maybe you should tell them about your dream."
"Fine. I had a weird dream last night that Elliot escaped from prison and went after Hank again but this time he succeeded. I ended up shooting and killing Elliot."
"Damn, Liv! I can't say that I'd blame you because I'd shoot his ass too."
"That sounds like something Voight would do."
"That's what he said."
"I'd recuse myself from prosecuting the case."
"Dan?"
"It could just mean that you want to remove him from your life. I get you've tried."
"That's kind of the reason we're here. Someone strangled Elliot Stabler and Denny Woods was stabbed to death."
Really?"
"Yeah. I got a call from Mark and the FBI has also been notified."
"Don't blame me for this. While I don't give a shit what happens to either of them because of what happened to me, I learned my lesson and I want to be around for Noah."
"No one is blaming you. Upton, Burgess, Ruzek, Atwater and I all took your shooting personally because this was family and with the way that son of a bitch acted in court, he got what he deserved. Woods got what he deserved too."
"I totally agree with Jay. They both got what they deserved.
"I'm sure his family will somehow blame me for what happened."
"We already talked to Kathleen and Dickie and they both asked if you knew yet. We said we were gonna see you next. They wondered if it had something to do with Wheatley."
"That did cross my mind."
"The prison is looking at the security videos."
"Were they at the same prison?"
"No, so that makes things kind of complicated. We have no idea if this is one person behind this or two."
"Who is investigating this?"
"The FBI and Illinois State Police mostly. I doubt we'll be updated since it's out of our jurisdiction."
"I can probably get updates. Are you ok with this, Liv? Despite what happened these last 10 years and with him becoming so obsessed with you, you were still partners for 12 years. You cared for each other. If anyone gets how close you become to your male partner, I do. I loved Jay but sometimes it was hard to keep our work and private lives separate. We went our separate ways and I left Chicago. I needed time to get over that relationship but I'm totally fine that he and Upton are together. I'm not going to act like Stabler did with you when he found out that you were with Hank and threatened his life. I'm not going to threaten Upton's life because I still love Jay and want to prove a point. I want him to be happy."
"Honestly, I think I'm a little relieved. I was still constantly worrying about someone coming after Hank. It's always been about Elliot and his ego."
"I can't disagree with that. What would have happened if all this had happened between the time you broke up with Tucker to when you and Voight got together?"
"Honestly, I was over Elliot a long time ago and like I have said many times before, I am not the same person I was when Elliot and I worked together. A part of me wishes he had been there with what happened with Lewis but he wasn't. I may have compared Hank to him when we first met in my office about 7 years ago but ever since that time, Hank has always been there when I needed him and he kept me sane when Noah was kidnapped and after both Simon and Ed died. I think Ed's death hit me harder than Simon's did even though I still blame myself for that."
"It's ok if you wanna grieve Stabler, ya know."
"Right now, I don't think that is going to happen. Today and the next week are all about me and Hank. Jay is right. Elliot got what he deserved for what he did to Hank and it was unforgivable. He crossed the line. I always had nothing but respect for Kathy. It's not my fault that Elliot couldn't accept me with anyone else. He would not have handled finding out about Ed and me too well either."
"That was his problem and not yours."
"I agree with what Erin said. Even though we're no longer together, I still care about her and always will. I also want her to be happy. I'm actually glad that Voight is her real dad. It explains a lot, actually."
"Yes, it does."
Olive came out of the kitchen.
"Is everyone staying for breakfast?"
"We already ate."
"I'm kind of hungry."
"Do you want some coffee?"
"That would be great."
"I don't drink coffee."
"Fin prefers tea."
"Ok. Breakfast is about ready. I'll boil some water."
"Ok."
Olivia went upstairs to get the boys. Will went up to grab the crutches, so they were ready for Noah when he got downstairs.
"How's the ankle, kiddo?"
"It's a little better."
"He slept through the night from what I could tell. So did Hank for the first time since before the shooting. I actually ended up sleeping in Noah's bed, since I was so restless last night and Noah slept in our bed. I didn't want to bother Hank or Noah."
Everyone went into the kitchen and the family had breakfast and everyone, while everyone else had their coffee or tea.
"So, Liv, is Barba comin' to this thing tonight?"
"He didn't know. I invited both him and told him he could bring his mother if he wanted to."
"I'm not tryin' to be a pain in the ass or anything but do you think there's somethin' goin' on with Rollins and Carisi?"
"Honestly, I do and pretty much have since your wedding that wasn't. Whether they are or not, I'm fine with it. There have been feelings there for quite a while, more from him than her but I think she started realizing it more after Billie was born. I don't think he even told her that he was seeing Nicole even though I think he tried. He is crazy about both girls."
"That Nicole chick had way too much drama for me. Sometimes Rollins does too because of her family."
"At least Kim finally admitted she needed help. I guess seeing what their father had been through made her realize it."
"I completely understand what Amanda is going through with her family. I had that most of my life with Bunny. Camille was more like a mother to me than she was and so are you."
"I get where you're both coming from, since my mother was an alcoholic. I'm the one that went out and located Simon, so I brought that on myself. I've been held hostage numerous times and my son has been kidnapped. I always got sucked into the Stabler Family drama when I worked with him whether I wanted to or not. I basically still do and that's not by choice either."
"I get it. I didn't have the best relationship with Ken for years but I'm glad I get to be a part of my grandson's life."
"Elliot never once asked me about what I've gone through these last 10 years because as usual, it was all about him. You know better than anyone that I still have issues with what Lewis did to me."
"Yeah, I do know that."
"Noah, you can use our shower if you want.
"Ok."
Once the boys finished eating, Jay helped Noah back upstairs, so he could take a shower, while Daniel went to watch TV. Olivia told Dan and Will what she had been through. She had told Peter when they had worked together and Jay had known for a while.
"Thank you for sharing that with us, Olivia. I'm sure that it's still not easy to talk about."
"It isn't but I'm not having the nightmares as much anymore. I was having problems after Noah's biological grandmother kidnapped him, when my half-brother died from a drug overdose and when my ex committed suicide. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't having problems with what happened to Hank because I am. I was not prepared to live my life without the man I love."
"Your feelings are completely normal. PTSD can happen to anyone. I think it's safe to say that most of us in this room suffer from it. Everyone is different in how they deal with it."
"I may not remember much about what happened but it helps to talk about it. I blame myself for what happened to Bunny though."
"I don't blame you. It would have been harder on me if I had lost you, since you shaped me into the person I have become."
"I always blame myself for things that happen to the others around me. I blamed myself for what happened to Dodds. I blamed myself when my son was kidnapped. I blamed the message I left on Simon's voicemail for him overdosing. I should have seen the signs with Ed. If Elliot hadn't become so obsessed with me, he wouldn't have had someone try to kill Hank."
"Babe, don't blame yourself for what happened to me. You should know better than anyone what happens when someone becomes too obsessed with someone else."
"Oh yeah, I do. Nothing good ever comes out of it. That's for sure."
"I was convinced that Bunny set you up, since we know she would have done anything for money. Boy, was I wrong about that."
"I wouldn't put it passed her if she had. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't relieved that both Stabler and Woods are dead."
"I am too."
"MOM, I'M OUT OF THE SHOWER."
"OK."
Olive went up to make sure Daniel got a bath and then once he was done, she took her shower. Then Hank and Olivia took theirs. Everyone who was leaving, left and said they'd see them later. Olivia thought she would have heard from the Stabler kids but she hadn't. Once Olivia was dressed, she went to get an ankle support for Noah. As a family, they had a light lunch and then Hank and Olivia finished packing. They all got ready to head to the party.
By the time they arrived at the restaurant, a lot of the guests were there. Nick had come in and so had George.
"Liv!"
"Nick, George, it is so good to see you both."
"You too. Congratulations!"
"Thanks. George, this is my husband, Hank Voight. Hank, this is George Huang. George helped out a lot on cases. He used to be a Special Agent with the FBI but he's also a Psychiatrist."
"Nice to meet you."
"You too."
"So, are you enjoying retirement?"
"I am."
"Great."
Olivia spent a little time catching up with both Nick and George and then Don, Eileen and John came over.
"There's my girl."
"Hey, Don. Hello Eileen."
"Olivia, it's nice to see you."
"It's nice to see you too."
"Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
"Hey, kiddo."
"Hey, John."
Olivia hugged the three of them.
"How are you, Captain?"
"I'm ok."
"Fin told us what happened to Elliot. How are you handling that?"
"He got what he deserved after what he did to Hank. Right now, I'm relieved he will no longer be a threat to us. That's all I have to say about that."
"And you have every right to feel that way. Have you talked to his kids?"
"I haven't talked to them in a while. I figured I'd hear from Kathleen but I have not. Fin said he talked to her earlier and she asked if what happened was somehow connected to the guy that supposedly killed Kathy. It did cross my mind that it could be. I'm just looking forward to spending a week alone with my husband."
"How are you feeling, Hank?"
"I'm doin' better. I'm takin' things one day at a time."
"Good. That's really all you can do. What happened to Noah?"
"He was showing the other kids his dance moves last night and he rolled his ankle, so I spent several hours in the Emergency Room with him last night. He has a badly sprained ankle."
"Poor kid."
The group from Chicago came in and Hank and Olivia introduced them to everyone. All the kids were at one table and Ben was hanging out with them. Hank and Olivia sat down and Maggie and Sharon came over to talk to them.
"Your husband is so good with the kids."
"He's a teacher, so of course he loves kids."
"How's retirement treating you, Hank?"
"So far, so good. Most of it so far though has been recovering and getting my strength back. My heart really wasn't in it anymore after Olinsky died. I'm where I need to be but now I get to constantly worry about this one."
"I'm still scared that this whole thing isn't over. Both Elliot and Denny Woods could still have someone come after you."
"We will deal with that if and when it happens.
Alex, Casey and Trevor came over. Alex and Casey hadn't talked to Olivia a whole lot after what happened to Hank or really since before Elliot had been back. The last time she had seen or talked to either of them was the previous Christmas when they had all gotten together.
"You look so happy, Liv."
"I am."
"What the hell was Stabler thinking?"
"The thing is, he wasn't. He had become so obsessed with me that he didn't care about anything else. When I told him that Hank wasn't going anywhere, he said, 'we'll see about that', so he was our number one suspect when Hank was shot. He left the country and went back to Italy, which was where he was arrested."
"By the FBI?"
"Yep. Hank's daughter Erin works for the FBI and she wanted them to help out. They can dig deeper than the police can, so both squads were cooperating with them. He found out during the trial that Hank and I were married and he was pissed. His main goal during the trial was trying to make Hank look bad. I'm relieved he will no longer be a threat to us and he got what he deserved. What he did to my family was unforgivable. If he couldn't accept me with Hank, there is no way he would have understood my relationship with Ed Tucker. When I heard what happened to Ed, I was devastated. Amanda took it pretty hard and so did Fin, which really surprised me. Barba contacted me to find out how I was doing after that. I may not have loved Ed the way I love Hank but he took me to Paris and that is something I will always remember. Right now, I don't know that I could ever go back there."
"I don't blame you for feeling that way."
"How did you feel about Elliot being back with the NYPD?"
"I had mixed feelings about it. I felt bad that he lost Kathy the way he did but he still had the same anger issues he did when we worked together. He tried going off on the person we first thought was responsible for what happened to Kathy and I nearly got in trouble with my Boss. Hank's unit was helping us out with a case and Organized Crime had gotten involved as well and Elliot was getting in the suspect's face then as he usually does. When I asked him what his problem was, he said it was Hank. That was all because he had witnessed Noah calling Hank 'Dad'. I told him that if he spoke to anyone like that again, I would write him up for insubordination."
"Which you have every right to do."
"Exactly. The suspect for that case when Hank and I were in the Interrogation Room with Elliot, the guy's lawyer thanked Elliot for being the one to interrogate him because Hank's voice makes him sound like the Devil."
"Really? I think it's sexy."
"I think so too."
"I've always thought Hank's voice was sexy but I may be a little biased though."
"I wasn't always like this."
"What happened?"
"I was in a car accident and had a tube in. I tried taking it out and damaged my vocal chords."
"You tried taking it out yourself?"
"Yeah."
"I see you left it alone this time."
"I did."
"What caused the accident?"
"A drunk driver from what I was told. It happened right after I graduated from high school and I almost died. My mom did die. I don't remember a whole lot about what happened. I know I had a back and neck injury and had surgery. I also had a broken leg and arm."
"Wow!"
Then Meredith came over.
"I'm sure Meredith remembers my accident."
"Oh yeah. I'm one of the few people who knew Hank before he sounded like he does now. When he first woke up and tried pulling the tube out, he didn't have a whole lot of feeling in his legs but he didn't have a spinal cord injury."
"I remember being in the hospital for a while and then in rehab. I was then able to get the feeling back in my legs."
"Alvin and I visited you every day while you were in both the hospital and rehab."
"Yeah, I remember that. I had to stay there until I could take care of myself.
"And Alvin probably would have been at the hospital this time too."
"He was with me though and so were my parents, Camille and Justin.
"That is probably the one thing I didn't know about you but if you don't remember a whole lot about it, it makes sense as to why you don't talk about it. What happened to the person that caused the accident?"
"I don't know. It never went to court."
"This was the early 80's?"
"Yeah."
"Did you ever look at the accident report?"
"No. I guess I never wanted to."
"I have a bad feeling about this. My mother was in Chicago one summer in the early 80's for whatever reason and when she came back, she had a bandage on her head. When I asked her about it, she told me that she had been in an accident in the rental car with some punk. She would get behind the wheel while she was drunk, which was quite often. Oh, Hank, what if Serena was responsible for that accident and she killed your mother?"
"What difference does it make now? That was like 40 years ago."
"I am so sorry."
"We don't know that it was her and like I said, that was 40 years ago. It won't change how I feel about you. I've now used two of my nine lives."
"You're so funny! I love you."
"I love you too."
Olivia kissed Hank and then the food came out. Everyone ate and then they did some dancing. They had gotten a cake, so everyone had cake as well. Hank and Olivia talked to as many people as they could before everyone headed home. Hank and Olivia made love before they went to sleep and everyone else went to bed as well. That was the first time they had been together since before Hank was shot.
Olivia was having trouble sleeping, so she got out of bed and put her robe on. She still had things of Serena's that she had never gone through. She knew she should have gone though it with as many times as she has moved over the years. One of the things she had was a locked metal file box. She went into the closet where it was kept and pulled it out. The box was locked and she wasn't sure where the key was, so she got something to pick the lock. She got it open and pulled out what was in there, which was a bunch of papers and a notebook. She looked through the papers and then started reading the notebook, which appeared to be a journal. It appeared to have a lot in there about her feelings for Olivia. She had said she never truly hated Olivia or regretted bringing her into the world but she had had a hard time dealing with what had happened to her. She found an entry in June of 1981 talking about the accident in Chicago. She said she had seriously injured the kid and killed the other driver. She knows she should be in jail but the cop let her off after she had slept with him. The more Olivia read, the more upset she was becoming by it. There was also a copy of the accident report. Hank had lost his mother because of her mother's carelessness and recklessness. She had tears running down her cheeks. Hank had woken up and came downstairs when he noticed she wasn't in bed with him.
"You ok?"
"No, I'm not. Hank, my mother was responsible for killing your mother and causing your injuries. She said she knew she should have been in jail but the cop let her off after she slept with him. There is also a copy of the accident report here."
Hank sat down and looked at it. When he saw who the cop was, things made sense to him.
"Now it's all starting to make sense. He was the cop that was working with my dad the day he was killed. He was off doin' somethin' else when my dad was shot. Then he was screwing the woman responsible for causing the accident that killed my mom and lets her off the hook for responsibility. I'm surprised he didn't try to put the blame on me even though I wasn't the one driving. After my dad died, he tried coming on to my mom and she refused because he was married. She wasn't interested in getting involved with anyone after losing my dad anyway. I wonder if his wife ever found out that he was cheating on her. I'm sure there were other women besides your mother."
"Oh, no doubt. Why would he have put the blame on you?"
"Because he hated me. His son and I went to school together and we both wrestled. I had a better record than he did and he started using steroids to enhance his performance. I had seen him doin' it and so had some of our other teammates, so we went to the coach. He was kicked off the team because of it and his dad ended telling me to mind my own business. He only did it to himself. He later started using drugs and ended up dying of an overdose. He had a couple siblings too but they were just as screwed up. I don't even know what happened to his old man. In the number of years I was a cop in Chicago, I never ran into him once. None of this changes how I feel about you. It wasn't your fault. Let's go back to bed."
"Ok."
Olivia put the stuff back into the box and put it back into the closet. They then went back up to bed, kissed each other and fell asleep in each other's arms.
Several hours later, they got up and got ready to head to the airport. Olive and Daniel had a flight later in the day but they were planning on spending time with Erin and Noah before they headed to the airport. The group from Chicago was leaving later in the day as well. After Hank and Olivia arrived at the airport, got checked in and went through security, they grabbed something to eat before heading to the gate to wait for the flight to start boarding. Once they boarded the plane and it took off, they both fell asleep.
When they arrived in Honolulu, they went to get their bags and then they took the shuttle to the hotel. When they arrived, they got checked in and went up to their suite. They had a gorgeous view of the beach and ocean. They made love before they put their swimsuits on to head to the beach. They put sunscreen on and went for a walk hand in hand along the beach. They also went into the water. They went back to the hotel and took a shower before they had dinner. After dinner, they made love before falling asleep in each other's arms.
The rest of their time there, they did some shopping, spent time at the pool or beach and checked out the sights, like Pearl Harbor. They called to check up on Erin and Noah a few times.
By the time their time there was coming to an end, neither of them wanted to go home. They both felt they were closer than they had been in a while and they both knew they had needed this last week to reconnect with one another without any interruptions. They both knew the worst was behind them and they had survived it. They both knew that as long as they had each other, they could survive anything life threw at them.
