The Letter – Part 2
The next morning, Olivia woke up before Hank did and she was sore all over. She got up and stretched before she went to the washroom. She came back and checked her phone. No messages, which was a good thing. She was relieved that Elliot was in jail and would hopefully be staying there until his arraignment. He was obviously a flight risk and she would be sure to let the Prosecutor know that. A part of her had hoped that was Peter. She missed him after he left New York and she wasn't sure where he had gone. Then Hank woke up.
"Hey."
"Good morning. I want to ask you something."
"Ok."
"Did Peter Stone come back to Chicago?"
"Yeah, he did."
"I was wondering what happened to him. I kind of hope he's the Prosecutor for Elliot."
Then the security guard came in with Mark and Peter.
"Olivia, it's good to see you."
"You too, Mark. How are you, Peter?"
"I'm good. How's Noah?"
"He's good. He should be here sometime this afternoon. Rollins, her girls, Carisi, Fin and his fiancée are bringing him here."
"Good. Did Rollins and Carisi ever get together? I mean, that was a little obvious."
"Yeah, it was and they did. They've already disclosed their relationship and I wasn't really surprised. He's now the ADA and I was promoted to Captain."
"Congratulations to both of you!"
"Thanks."
"We are here to talk to you about Elliot Stabler. We would like to know what happened and why he did what he did."
Both Mark and Peter sat down and Olivia told them about her history with Elliot and then Hank told them what he did to him.
"He is a flight risk. He was living in Italy for the last few years before he came back to New York. I don't want him near me, my son or Hank again."
"That is completely understandable."
They talked for a little while longer and then Peter and Mark left just as Hank's breakfast was coming in. Olivia kissed him and then headed to his house, so she could have breakfast and take a shower before Matt and Antonio got there.
Meanwhile in New York, the flight to Chicago was just leaving. Erin met Olive, Daniel, her boyfriend and his daughter were meeting for breakfast at their hotel. Olive was waiting.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"Just you?"
"They'll be down soon. How'd you sleep?"
"Like crap. I was up all night. My conversation with Liv was stuck in my head. As much as I want to be pissed at Hank, I think he was right. He had no idea what had happened. I found a bunch of Bunny's stuff that I hadn't gone through yet and I read something of hers that said he had no idea that I was his. She was just glad I was mad at Hank for once instead of her. Leave it to Bunny."
"I never intended to keep Daniel from him but I just couldn't be in that house after Justin died."
"I know what happened with Kevin Bingham bothered you."
"It did but it shouldn't have. I know he did it for us. Hank has been more of a dad to me than my dad ever was. I never had the best relationship with my mom either. I feel bad that I seem to not to want to let him spend time with Daniel. He's Daniel's grandpa."
"I know. He's my dad and I've been treating him like shit."
"Honestly, I didn't sleep much either. Ryan and I talked about it as well and I think we're going to go to Chicago before we go back to Phoenix. Daniel has been asking to see his papa lately."
"I'm starting to think I need to go too. I just hope he can forgive me for acting the way I did and I hope Liv can too."
"She sounded pissed in the message she left."
"In mine too. She was pissed when I talked to her. I guess I wanted to blame Hank for what happened but all of it is just so Bunny. She said she was going to get help and then she ended up overdosing. She never knew when to quit. Would Ryan and Katie come with you?"
"He said they would. He wants to meet Daniel's grandpa, since I've met Katie's other grandparents."
"Do you think he has plans to propose?"
"I don't know. We've known each other since Daniel and I moved there but we took things slowly. We both encourage the kids to know about their other parents. Daniel is so comfortable with Ryan and Katie seems pretty comfortable with me."
"That's a good thing."
"Yeah, it is."
Ryan and the kids joined them.
"Ready?"
"Yep."
They left and headed to the restaurant. They were taken to the table and then the server took their drink order, while they looked at the menu. By the time she brought their drinks, they were ready to order.
"Have you decided what you're planning to do?"
"I want to stop in Chicago before we head back to Phoenix. If you and Katie want to come with us, that's fine. If not, then we'll go on our own."
"That's fine. We'll come with you."
Both Erin and Olive looked at flights to Chicago.
"Is this 4 this afternoon ok?"
"Yeah."
Olive booked a flight for the 4 of them and then changed the reservation home from Chicago instead of New York. Erin booked her flight as well.
"Do you think we should let Liv know?"
"That's a good question. Another good question is, are they together?"
"That is a good question. I'm thinkin' we should."
"You're probably right."
Erin called Olivia.
"Hey, Erin."
"Hey. I wanted to apologize for how I acted when I talked to you yesterday. That was uncalled for. I now know he didn't know he was my dad. How is he?"
"He says he's better than he was a week ago. I'm at the house right now and Antonio and Matt Casey are coming over by 10, so Matt can see if a chairlift can be put in."
"Is he in a wheelchair?"
"No but right now his leg and arm are in a cast and he's not able to do stairs. Matt said he'll put a ramp in in both the front and back of the house. He will probably have to be put in a Rehab before he can go home. I told him I would stay as long as he needs me. Rollins, Carisi, Jesse, Billie, Noah, Fin and Phoebe are coming in this afternoon. I told Hank that I could probably talk to my squad via Zoom and keep Noah with me, since he's off for the summer."
"Are you two together?"
"We're going to try. I do love him. He wrote me a letter telling me how he feels about me."
"He's loved you for a long time. Olive, Daniel, Ryan and Katie are here for the week we will all be leaving on the 4 o'clock flight."
"Ok. Just so you know, my former partner found the letter that I left in my desk and he showed up here. He tried hurting Hank, so there are officers at the door of his room but you, Olive and Daniel are on the list. There is also more of a police presence around the hospital."
"Ok. Thanks for the warning. Is he in custody?"
"Yep. The squad showed up and Al got into it with him. Adam and Kevin took him to the District and put him in the Cage. I guess everyone had it out with him and that included me. I had it out with him at the hospital."
"The last time we talked, you weren't happy that your former partner was back in your life."
"I'm still not. The only reason he did this was because he wants me all to himself. Thankfully Peter is the one trying the case. He and Mark were at the hospital already this morning."
"Good. Our food is here, so I need to go."
"Ok. We will see you later."
Erin hung up and ate. Olivia finished her breakfast as well and then she took her shower. Once she was done, the got out and dried off. She then got dressed. She headed downstairs just as the doorbell was ringing. It was Antonio.
"Hey, Antonio."
"Hey."
Antonio walked in Olivia shut the door.
"Do you want some coffee?"
"Yeah, sure."
Olivia and Antonio went into the kitchen and she poured him a cup of coffee.
"Thanks."
"Sure."
"I just got a call from Peter. Someone beat Stabler up. They are lookin' to see who it might have been. He's at another hospital now."
"I can't say I'm surprised."
"I called the others in the squad and none of us were either."
"Is the State's Attorney's office investigating it?"
"Right now, yes. Laura Nagel, who is my former partner when I worked there as a Special Investigator, is lookin' into it. I told Peter that if they need our help, to let me know but we he knows that we all got into it with him for what he did to Hank."
The doorbell rang again, so Olivia went to answer it. It was Peter and Laura.
"Olivia."
"Hey."
"This is Laura Nagel, the Special Investigator for the State's Attorney's office. This is Captain Olivia Benson of the NYPD's Special Victims Unit."
"Nice to meet you, Captain Benson."
"You too but please call me Olivia."
"Ok."
"Come in."
"Thanks."
Peter and Laura came in and then they went into the kitchen.
"Antonio."
"Hey."
"Can I get either of you some coffee?"
"Sure."
"Me too."
Olivia got both Peter and Laura a cup of coffee.
"I understand you know Elliot Stabler."
"I do. I've known him for over 20 years but we worked together for 12."
"Does he have any enemies that you know of?"
"Probably more so now than he did when he was with SVU."
Olivia told Laura everything she knew about Elliot's job and especially about the Wheatleys.
"I just want to get as much information as I can, so we can find who did this. Any information is helpful. Do you think Hank had anything to do with this?"
"No, I don't. I was with him all night and he has not been using his phone."
"Did you?"
"Absolutely not!"
"What about Detective Olinsky?"
"Laura, none of us had anything to do with what happened but as far as I'm concerned, he deserved it. I would suggest looking into these Wheatley people because it's possible they have people all over. For all we know, it could have just been a random thing. After all, he was the one that showed up at Med and tried chokin' Voight because he's jealous that Voight has feelings for Olivia."
Olivia gave Laura the contact information for Sergeant Bell and then Peter and Laura left.
"I don't appreciate being accused of doing something I didn't do."
"That was uncalled for. Honestly, if it was Olinsky, I don't blame him at all. He'd do anything to protect Hank, which is why he took the blame for the Bingham thing with Woods."
"If I know Elliot, he'll somehow blame Hank, since he claims he did what he did for me because he wants me for himself. Since I've been here, I have not seen Hank on his phone."
"He hasn't used it since before the accident."
Olivia and Antonio continued talking and then Matt arrived. After they left, Olivia went back to the hospital. When she got to Med, Trudy, Al and Meredith were there.
"Hey."
"Hey. Did you miss me?"
"I did."
"Good."
Olivia kissed Hank and then she sat down.
"I talked to Erin."
"Did she call you or did you call her?"
"She called me to apologize. She said she, Olive, Daniel, Ryan and Katie are flying out later this afternoon. Antonio told me that someone beat Elliot up pretty bad."
"Good. What goes around, comes around. Who's investigatin' it?"
"Peter's office."
Olivia told all of them the conversation she and Antonio had had with Laura.
"She actually thinks I'm responsible for this?"
"She did but I said I was with you all night and haven't seen you use your phone. Antonio said you haven't used it since before the accident. Antonio pretty much shot down any of the squad members being involved. She did ask about Al specifically."
"I guess after what that guy did to Hank, I suppose I would have a motive but it wasn't me."
"She even asked if I did it. It could be someone associated with the Wheatleys or some random thing like Antonio said. I gave her the contact information for Elliot's boss. She knows more about the people they deal with than I do. At this point, anything is possible."
"That's true. What is this guy like?"
"He's the one I compared Hank to when we first met except Hank has less ego. Apparently, Elliot must have done some research before coming here because he brought up Hank's behavior. I told him not to be such a hypocrite. When Hank tells me he'll behave, I know he means it. When we had the person we had first suspected was behind what happened to his wife in custody, I told him I didn't want him in the Interrogation Room. He told me he'd behave. When he started rolling up his sleeves and folded his arms in front of his chest, I knew what was about to happen. That's exactly what happened. He had no business being in there with a suspect. Yet he has no problem calling someone else out on their behavior."
"Did you threaten to arrest him?"
"I probably should have. I don't like being disrespected."
"No, you don't. You also don't like it if someone else's behavior makes you look bad."
"You got it!"
"See, I listen."
"Yes, you do."
They all talked for a while. The group from New York arrived in Chicago and got their stuff before getting the rentals. Then they headed to Med. When they arrived at Med, they got their visitor's badges and were escorted up to Hank's room. Noah went in first.
"Hi Hank."
"Hey, kiddo."
"How are you feeling?"
"I'm ok."
"Can I give you a hug?"
"Of course you can."
Noah gave Hank a hug and then he hugged Olivia.
"I can't believe how grown up he is."
"He is definitely growing up fast. This is Phoebe Baker, Fin's fiancée. Phoebe, this is Hank Voight, Trudy Platt and Alvin and Meredith Olinsky."
"It's nice to meet all of you."
"You too."
"Noah, Kim said she and Adam were planning to take Makayla to the Zoo tomorrow and wanted to know if you'd be interested in going with them."
"Yeah, sure."
"Monday everyone is back at the Fire Station, so we could do that if you wanted."
"That is always so fun. How long do you think we'll stay?"
"I'd like to stick around for a while, so I can take care of Hank even if that means checking in with the squad every day on Zoom. If you want to stay that's fine. If not, then I'm sure we can work something out with Amanda or maybe even Erin. If we're still here by the time you start back to school, then we can go back to get you settled and I can meet your teacher."
"If you're here with Hank, what am I gonna do all day?"
"We'll figure it out."
"He can stay with me. We can find something to do. We can go to Navy Pier, the museums or even one of the beaches. Makayla sometimes stays with me too."
"Thank you, Meredith."
"You're welcome."
"If I stick around, will the 4 of you be ok?"
"Yeah. We'll be fine. We'll have Chief Garland anyway but like you said, we can talk via Zoom. I got this, Liv. You focus on Voight."
"This is a shock. You usually hate being left in charge."
"No one wants you with Voight more than me."
"I didn't tell you the latest."
Olivia told them what had happened with Elliot.
"It serves him right. They actually asked if you and Voight had somethin' to do with it?"
"Yep and Al too. I basically said they needed to look into the Wheatleys or maybe it was just a random thing."
"He was no doubt runnin' his mouth about somethin'."
"That too. The Wheatleys could have people all over."
"It could be the kids wantin' revenge and who are they gonna go after? Stabler."
"Exactly. I gave the Investigator Sergeant Bell's contact information, since she's Elliot's boss and knows all about the Wheatleys and other people they have gone after. Peter is the one prosecuting Elliot."
"That's a good thing."
"Yes, it is."
"Bell is pissed at Stabler. She said he told her that he was takin' a couple personal days and she told him he couldn't because she needed him to go undercover again. He said what he had to do was more important. She told him to turn over his badge but he refused and walked out. She said the next time he shows up, he's done."
All Olivia could do was roll her eyes.
"He told Hank's squad that he did what he did for me. I didn't ask him to go after Hank. He also had no business being in my desk or even in my office."
"We shut and locked the door now even though he won't be visitin' any time soon."
"No, he won't but thank you. Honestly, I wouldn't have blamed Hank or anyone in his unit if they had gotten someone to take care of Elliot for what he did."
Then Peter came in with Hank's squad. Makayla was with them as well.
"Peter!"
"Hey, Noah."
Noah gave Peter a hug and then Peter hugged Fin, Amanda and Carisi and waved to the girls. Both squads hugged each other as well. Fin introduced Phoebe to everyone and Kim introduced Makayla to everyone from New York.
"They are all growing so fast. I remember when Billie was born."
"Yep. I can't believe it myself sometimes."
"Carisi, I hear you're now the ADA."
"Yeah, I am."
"Good for you."
"What's going on?"
"He's still unconscious but he has a broken jaw, so we haven't been able to ask him what happened. Laura is on the phone with Sergeant Bell now. She didn't mean to accuse any of you."
"I wouldn't have blamed Hank or anyone in his unit if they had. He claims he did what he did to Hank for me. I didn't ask him to do this. Hank means more to me than Elliot Stabler ever will."
"Antonio said the same thing."
"We all feel that way. We've all taken what happened to Voight pretty hard."
"Does he have a family?"
"He does. He has 5 kids and his mother is still around but she's been showing signs of dementia. His youngest is in college. I'm sure Sergeant Bell will get a hold of his daughter."
Fin told Peter what Ayanna had said and all he could do was shake his head.
"All because he found a letter addressed to Olivia from Hank in her desk?"
"It's my fault for not locking my office when I left. I'm surprised the Patrol Officers at the Precinct didn't tell him no one was there."
"They were asked but no one had an answer. Although I think Miss Thing at the desk has a thing for him."
"I came in as he was leavin' once and she asked me if I thought he was cute. I said I thought ADA Carisi was cuter and all she did was rolled her eyes. She said she's noticed he seemed to have a thing for you but she couldn't understand why. She thought he deserved better. In my opinion, you deserve better. She didn't come out and say it but I kinda think she thinks you're a bitch."
"The feeling is mutual. My squad and Carisi know about this. I asked her to do something and she said I wasn't her boss. I said I know I wasn't but I needed someone to have some old files pulled for me. She basically told me to do it myself and I deserved what William Lewis had done to me. I wrote her up for insubordination."
"Is she Patrol?"
"Yes but she's been filling in at the desk."
"You're the highest ranking person at that Precinct, right?"
"I am."
"Then technically, you are her boss."
"I know that and you know that. I don't exactly know how she got through the Academy, although I do have an idea. Her dad is one of the Chiefs. She called him and then he and Chief Garland showed up at my office. Chief Douglas basically gave me an earful for how I spoke to his daughter. I stood my ground told my side of the story but Chief Douglas said if I ever spoke to his daughter like that again, he'd have my badge. I told him that maybe he needed to put her somewhere else. He and Chief Garland were getting into it. She's still there and every time I walk passed the desk, she calls me a bitch. The Desk Sergeant doesn't like her either."
"Desk Sergeants are like that."
"Very funny, Ruzek!"
"I'm not tryin' to be."
"I remember when I first came here for that case involving Teddy, Burgess and Roman were the first ones I saw. I asked if I could speak to Hank and they told me I had to talk to you. I overheard them make a comment that you don't like visiting police."
"Usually I don't but I liked you from the beginning and I kind of thought you'd be good for Hank."
"He's a little rough around the edges sometimes but he's a good man."
"He is but he has the biggest heart of anyone I know."
"I'm glad I've had the chance to see that side of him."
"We all like him this way."
All Hank could do was shake his head.
"That girl seems too unstable to have a gun."
"She is but unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it because I don't want to lose my job. I'm hoping she does something when Chief Garland is there and he sees it. It's not like he doesn't believe. I was so upset after that. I was actually glad Noah wasn't home that night. Amanda, Fin and Phoebe were the ones that pulled me out of it. Carisi was with the girls and then the 4 of us went out drinking and axe throwing. Fin didn't do the axe throwing but the 3 of us did.
"All I gotta say about that is, no one is gonna mess with you 3."
"I almost called you but I wasn't sure I should."
"You could have because it wasn't like we weren't talkin'. We're still friends, aren't we?"
"Before yesterday, yes. Lately, I find it a lot easier to talk to you than Elliot. If it involves us having a meaningful conversation, he puts a wall up. I've never had that with Hank. I told Elliot that it's quite obvious that he has PTSD but he told me I didn't know what I was talking about. He of all people should know that I have had PTSD for years, even before what happened with William Lewis."
The 4 kids were getting hungry, so Carisi decided to take them to get something to eat. After they left, Olivia told everyone about what had happened at Sealview and about William Lewis. She also told them about Burton.
"Damn!"
"One of these times, I'm not going to be so lucky."
"You got all of us."
"Thanks. That's what Hank said when I first told him."
"How long has Voight known?"
"We were sleeping together prior to the Yates thing. I wanted him to know about my scars before he actually saw them. I've never been good in relationships. Hank, I'm sorry I just sprung that recent thing with Burton on you."
"Don't worry about it. It's not like you did anything wrong because we weren't even together."
"I guess I'm more damaged than I ever thought I was."
"No, you're not."
"What he and I did was wrong."
"Maybe so but that was the past. You're still good at your job and you're still a great mother. That's all that matters."
"Whatever feelings I had or thought I had for him back then are gone. There was nothing there now. Just like whatever I felt for Elliot when we worked together is gone too. I never would have wanted him to cheat on his wife. Ever. I feel bad that he lost his wife the way he did but he needs time."
"Everyone is different."
"I know but she was barely in her grave and he's already trying to get into my pants. Would you have done that so soon after losing Camille?"
"Oh, hell no! At times I thought 4 years was too soon but then I realized I wasn't getting any younger. I still love her and I probably always will but being with you has made me feel whole again."
"Sometimes I think I'm more myself with you. Elliot doesn't know me the way he thinks he does and I had planned to tell him about William Lewis but not if he's going to be an ass about everything. You know more about me than he does."
"Liv, it's ok to admit that you outgrew him. Just be grateful he didn't come back to SVU."
"Oh, I definitely have and I am."
"Didn't you threaten to arrest Voight when he pulled that same shit Stabler did?"
"I did and yes, I should have done the same thing with Elliot. I earned Hank's respect after that. Yes, I saw him get physical with that Van Camp guy in the Cage but when he tells me he'll behave, I know he means it. When Elliot tells me he'll behave, he ends up doing what he wants anyway."
"You're not so innocent either, Captain. I saw you take down that George guy."
"I know I did and Hank knows that."
"I threatened Yates after I left the bar and then went to tell Olivia what I did. I told her if she wanted to arrest me, she could."
"Did she?"
"Nope."
"Yates deserved it for what he did to Nadia."
"That's for sure."
"That night was pretty unforgettable if I remember correctly."
"It was for me too."
"Are you considering leaving us?"
"I don't know. My heart really hasn't been in it since Justin died and if Olivia and I are gonna make this work, we probably need to be in the same city. If I do, it wouldn't be right away but in my absence, I know Dawson will do ok runnin' things. I told him when he was plannin' to go work for Peter that he deserved to be runnin' his own unit. I still feel that way."
"I feel the same way about Fin. Fin has been there for me more times than I can count."
"I got your back, Liv. I always will."
"Thanks, Fin."
"No problem. You deserve to be happy too but I could never see that with Stabler."
"Me neither. He always makes everything about himself."
"You got that right. Like I said yesterday, if you weren't with Voight, I'd rather see you with Langan. At least Langan stopped bein' such an ass when he stopped bein' a Defense Attorney. Stabler will never stop bein' an ass."
"Langan is sexy."
"I agree with you completely, Amanda. I don't know how that man is still single. I attended that charity adoption gala with him a few months back and I'm actually surprised he didn't try anything."
"Well, it just shows that not every guy you know is tryin' to get you into bed. There are men who actually respect you besides me."
"I just think that if I had ever crossed that line with Elliot, it would mess up our friendship. I don't think that with Hank though."
"All men are different. You could have slept with Stabler and realized afterward that it wasn't what you expected it would have been or even wanted after all."
"That's very true. He would probably only want to satisfy himself anyway. The only man that seemed to focus on my needs even if it was only a casual thing was Hank."
"Not even Tucker?"
"While I loved him more than I was willing to admit, he wasn't the greatest in the bedroom. I know relationships are so much more than that. Like I said, Hank is probably the one I am my true self with. We've connected at all levels and whenever I've needed comfort, he's always been there. The fact that he's a Sergeant has never bothered me. Hank showed up the night I was promoted to Captain and we celebrated. I want to settle down and get married but this isn't just about what I want. My relationships also involve Noah and his opinion really matters to me. I would never get involved with someone who would treat him poorly. He and Hank have gotten along since they first met before I even adopted him. Hank was the one that was there after Sheila had kidnapped him and he was the one that got us through what happened to Ed."
They talked for a little while longer and after Carisi came back with the kids, everyone except Noah, Al, Meredith and Trudy left. They had brought Hank's lunch in, so Al, Meredith, Trudy and Olivia decided to grab a bite to eat and Noah stayed with Hank.
"How are you doin', kiddo?"
"I'm good. Do you think you and Mom will get married?"
"I don't know but I hope so. I love her and I love you too. We're really gonna try to make it work this time though."
"Good. I love you too and I really want you to be my dad."
"I wanna be your dad too."
"I want Mom to be happy but a part of me doesn't want to see her with anyone but you."
"She said she knows her relationships also involve you and your opinion really matters to her. She would never bring anyone into your life that would hurt you in anyway. When the time comes, you can help me pick the ring out, ok?"
"Ok."
Hank finished his lunch and then the Physical Therapist came in and got him up, so he could walk around. Noah walked with them. They were headed back to the room when Olivia came back.
"He's up!"
"Yep, I'm up."
"You must be Olivia."
"I am."
Olivia kissed Hank. The therapist got him into the chair.
"How's therapy going?"
"He's doing quite well. He tells me you're going to be staying with him for a while."
"That's the plan. One of the firefighters he knows is a Contractor. He's going to be putting a ramp and a chairlift in at Hank's house. He'll get started on it soon, which he thinks will be after his next shift."
"Good. I would like for him to go to Rehab before he goes home even if it's for a short time."
"Ok. How long do you think he'll be here?"
"He's doing really well and the ramp and all that will help. This was the longest he's been up walking. Maybe early next week. There is a possibility that he could be in Rehab for 4 weeks but that depends on how things go. The cast on his leg will stay on for at least 8 weeks. The one on his arm could come off in 6 weeks. Right now, I'm more concerned with his leg."
"I get that. I was in an accident a little over a year ago and broke my ankle. I didn't need surgery at first but I eventually did. I had to do some therapy before I left the hospital and then I did outpatient PT after my boot came off."
"How is it now?"
"It feels pretty good but I was extra cautious this past winter."
"I hear that a lot. Ok, Hank, I'll see you tomorrow.
"Ok."
"Olivia and Noah, it was nice meeting both of you."
"You too."
Hank's therapist left and then Olivia and Noah sat down.
"Did Al, Meredith and Trudy go home?"
"They did."
The 3 of them sat and talked for a while. Erin, Olive, Daniel Ryan and Katie were on the plane waiting for it to take off. It took off and then several hours later, it arrived in Chicago. They got their luggage and went to get the rental before they headed to Med. When they arrived, they parked and went in. They got their visitor badges and were taken up to Hank's room. Olivia and Noah had gone out to grab dinner and Hank was back in bed eating dinner.
"Hey."
"Hey."
Erin went in and gave Hank a hug.
"I wanted to apologize for how I acted. I now know you didn't know. I found something of Bunny's that said you had no idea I was yours but she was glad I was mad you and not her. I'm actually relieved you're my dad and not some loser like Bunny."
"I couldn't stay mad at you for long, kid. You know that. Hey, Olive."
"Hey. Hank, I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have kept you from your grandson."
"In a way, I get it."
"It has nothing to do with you. It was all me."
Olive hugged Hank and then Daniel did too.
"I missed you, Papa."
"I missed you too."
"Hank, this is Ryan Spencer and his daughter Katie. Ryan and Katie, this is Hank, my father-in-law and Daniel's grandpa."
"It's nice to meet you."
"You too. What do you do, Ryan?"
"I'm a Social Worker."
"That's great."
"Liv said Matt was going to do ramps in the front and back of the house and do something about a chairlift?"
"Yep. He's supposed to get started after his next shift. He's back at the Firehouse on Monday."
"How long are you supposed to be here?"
"Maybe early next week. I could be in Rehab for 4 weeks. I was up walkin' around when Olivia went to get lunch with Al, Meredith and Trudy. Noah stayed with me. Carisi had taken the kids to McDonald's earlier."
"Are Liv and Noah at the house?"
"They went to get dinner."
Hank told them everything that Peter and Laura had told them.
"I'm guessing he's gonna to find a way to get the charges dropped and continue to harass Liv or he won't stop until you're out of the way."
"I'm not givin' Olivia up that easily. She has made it clear that she doesn't wanna be with him. He just chooses not to listen, which I guess is normal for him."
"The last time I had dinner with Liv, which was a little over a year ago, she said she wasn't exactly thrilled that he was back in her life."
"That was about the time he came back into her life."
"It was."
"Did you know about her accident?"
"No."
"Have you ever looked into these Wheatleys?"
"No but I have heard of them."
"I don't get why they are focusin' so much on who beat the crap out of him instead of lockin' that SOB up for what he did to me."
"Exactly. I don't get it either. I get it if you or someone connected to you had somethin' to do with it but no one did."
"That I understand."
Then Peter and Laura came in.
"Erin."
"Hey."
"It was someone connected to the Wheatleys that beat Stabler up. The person confessed to it."
"So, now are you gonna focus on lockin' Stabler up for what he did to me?"
"Yes, Hank, we will. We can't necessarily arraign someone who's unconscious in the hospital."
"That's not my problem. I don't want him comin' after me again or continuin' to harass Olivia."
"He has a guard on him and he's restrained."
"I don't want any deals made either."
"That won't even be an option."
"He claims he did this for Olivia but he really did it because he's obsessed with her."
Then Olivia and Noah came back and Peter told her what they told Hank. Then Peter and Laura left. Olivia and Noah hugged Erin, Olive and Daniel and Olive introduced them to Ryan and Katie.
"What if Elliot wants a deal?"
"Peter said that's not even an option. I told Peter I don't want him comin' after me again or continuin' to harass you. Right now, he has a guard on him and he's restrained."
"If he hadn't come back into my life, none of this would be happening."
"Don't blame yourself."
"How can I not?"
"Olivia, what do you do?"
"I'm a Captain with the NYPD Special Victims Unit. How about you?"
"I'm a Social Worker. I completely understand what Daniel has been through. Like him, I never knew my real dad. I was just a year old when he died and my sister was 3, so she really doesn't remember him either. He was a cop and was killed in the line of duty. When my mom met the guy she's married to now, he also fell in love with both of us almost immediately. I was 5 when he came into our lives. He had us both involved when he went to buy her engagement ring and he wanted to make things official with us when he married Mom. He's always been Dad to us. We have our younger sister and brother. Katie never knew her mom either. She died during childbirth."
"How'd you two meet?"
"We kind of live in the same area and the kids are in the same class. We'd see each other at school things but we just never started up a conversation. The kids were at a birthday party and I had a last minute case, so I was late picking her up. Both sets of grandparents and my siblings all live out of town and Katie's sitter wasn't available that day. Olive had come to pick up Daniel and he was worried because Katie hadn't been picked up yet, so he and Olive stayed with her until I got there. We started to spend time together after that. At first, it was with the kids and then we started doing stuff without them, while they stayed with Olive's sister. Our relationship grew from there."
Everyone talked a while longer, so Hank could get to know Ryan and Katie better and then everyone but Olivia left. Erin took Noah to the house and Olive, Ryan and the kids went to the hotel. During the night, Elliot had regained consciousness and would be kept there until he could be taken back to jail.
During the next few days, Olive, Ryan and the kids spent time with Hank before they went back to Phoenix and the group from New York did the same. Erin decided to stick around for a while. By Monday, Hank was released from the hospital and went to Rehab. Olivia had contacted her squad daily to keep in touch and Noah had spent time with Meredith. He had also had a good time with Adam, Kim and Makayla when they went to the Zoo. They went to the fire station as well. Matt had also started working on Hank's house.
When Elliot was finally released from the hospital, they had him arraigned. He pled not guilty and still kept saying he did it to protect Olivia. Dr. Charles had talked to him to see if he was fit to stand trial. He was. By the time the trial started, it was pretty much an open and shut case for Peter. Hank was able to give his testimony via video. Olivia had agreed to testify for the Prosecution as well. She basically told Elliot that she would never forgive him for what he did but he said he knew she didn't mean it. Elliot was found guilty and sentenced to serve time. He was also told that after he had served his time, he could not go anywhere near Olivia or Hank. Ayanna had already talked to Elliot and told him that he no longer had a job with the NYPD. Kathleen and Dickie had been there for the trial but they had seen how obsessed Elliot had been with Olivia since their mom had passed.
Hank's 4 weeks in Rehab had gone quickly. He was able to go home to be with Olivia and Noah and had made the decision that he was planning to retire, so Antonio had made plans to take the Sergeant's exam, since he would be taking over. Al had also decided he was planning to retire. They had a party for both. Hank had made the decision to move to New York. Even though he was doing it to be closer to Olivia, Noah and Erin, he wasn't sure if that implied he was moving in with Olivia or if he was going to stay with Erin for a while. Olivia had no problem with Hank moving in with them. Erin and Olive had come back to help go through stuff, since Hank still had a lot of Justin's old toys. While Noah stayed with Hank, Olivia had gone back to New York to look for a bigger place for the 3 of them, since her lease was up anyway. She found a 3-bedroom condo with better security and Noah would still be going to the same school. She had had Hank and Noah on Face Time, while she was looking at, so they got to see it as well. They both liked it, so she made an offer and started going through stuff in her place. While Olivia was gone, Hank had Erin take him to the Jeweler, so he could pick out a ring for Olivia. He had promised Noah he could help pick it out and he also wanted Olive and Erin involved too. By the time Olivia came back to Chicago, Erin and Olive had gone home but they had gotten a lot done. As soon as things were done and Hank got the ok from the doctor, Hank put his house on the market and they headed for New York. Olivia had gone back to work and Noah was about ready to go back to school. They closed on their new place. Al and Meredith also decided to move to New York, so Hank and Al could enjoy their retirement together. They bought a condo in the same building.
For Christmas, Hank, Olivia, Noah and Erin had gone to Arizona after Amanda and Sonny got married and had their party. Hank ended up proposing to Olivia and Ryan had proposed to Olive. Ryan had asked Hank if he could make things official with Daniel and Hank said he was fine with that. Hank had also wanted to make things official with Noah. As soon as they got back to New York, Olivia contacted Trevor to start the paperwork.
They decided to have a double wedding in Hawaii that summer with just the families and would have a reception later for everyone else. Ryan had his parents, his siblings and their families and Katie's other grandparents as well as her mom's sister and her family, who all got along well with Olive and Olive had her sister and her family. Erin was of course there and even though Olivia considered her squad her family, none of them would be there but they all understood as did Hank's former squad and Trudy. They did, however, invite Don and Eileen, since Don was the father Olivia never had and Al and Meredith. Both couples were married and then everyone enjoyed their time together afterwards. Hank and Olivia had gotten to know Ryan's parents and former in-laws when they all met at Christmas. Hank still thought of Olive as a part of the family and always would. He and Olivia loved Katie as much as they loved Daniel.
A month after the wedding in Hawaii, everyone flew to New York for the combined reception, which Erin had basically planned on her own with a little help from Amanda, Kat, Olive's sister, Ryan's family, Kim and Trudy. It was going to be at one of Olivia's favorite restaurants. Mostly everyone was arriving the night before. Ryan, Olive and the kids went over to Hank and Olivia's for dinner. Erin was there too. Both kids hugged them when we got there.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"This is nice."
"Thanks. We like it and it has so much more room. How was the flight?"
"Great. We have something we wanted to tell you."
"You're pregnant?"
"How'd you guess?"
"We kind of figured that was comin'. We're happy for you."
"Thanks. We decided that because the two of you became grandparents to Katie when we got married and Katie's mom's parents became grandparents to Daniel at the same time, we want this baby to have all 6 of you as grandparents too and we want Erin to be an aunt."
"Ryan, you're ok with this?"
"Oh, yeah. We're both in complete agreement with this. You will probably be seeing the baby more than the others."
"What?"
"I was offered a job here in New York and Erin was the only one that knew. We were here before the wedding for my interview and to look for a place. Ryan told me he would work on getting his license wherever I got a job. It's more money than what I'm making in Arizona and we found a place nearby and he'd be making more here too."
"That is so wonderful!"
"I thought you were done with winters though."
"I thought so too but I want Daniel to be closer to his grandpa. Most of it was because I couldn't be in that house anymore. I was ok being there when I helping to go through stuff though. After Justin died, it just got to be too hard."
"It did for me too. I don't miss Chicago. Movin' here to be with Olivia and Noah was the best choice I could have made for myself. I don't miss workin' either."
"Did you buy something or are you renting?"
"We bought it. We closed on it this morning. We've been here since last night."
"That's great! Congratulations!"
"Thanks."
Everyone hugged them and then Olivia and Hank went to get dinner. They all sat down and ate. After dinner, Ryan cleaned everything up.
"You found yourself a good guy, Olive."
"I know I have. He does this when we visit his parents, siblings and Katie's mom's parents as well. He loves being in the kitchen."
"Carisi is the same way. I have never seen Amanda as happy as she's been with him. Right after they got married was when Hank proposed.
"I had been plannin' it for a while but I didn't want to rush into it. I had picked out the ring when you came back here too look at places. I promised Noah he could help me pick the ring out. I also wanted the girls' input."
They were notified that they had visitors. It was the group from Chicago. Olivia told them to let them up.
"The group from Chicago is here."
"Good."
A few minutes later, there was a knock at the door, so Olivia went to answer it. Hank texted Al to let him know the group from Chicago was there.
"Hey."
"Hey. Nice place."
"Thanks. Come on in."
"Thanks."
Everyone hugged Olivia and then they walked in. They all hugged Noah, Hank and Erin and said hi to everyone else.
"How are things?"
"I have never been happier. This was the best decision I could have made for myself. I am more in love with Olivia every day."
"And I'm more in love with you every day too."
Olivia kissed Hank.
"Everyone at 51 and Med sends their love."
"Thank you. We're glad you could be here, Mouch."
"I am too."
"Stone sends his love too."
"Tell him thank you."
"Are there a lot of people comin' to this?"
"Olivia's squad and her friends."
"Nick Amaro will be here. He and I have been talking a lot lately."
"It'll be good to see him."
"Fin doesn't believe we're married, since he wasn't there."
"None of us were."
"Al was."
"Are he and Meredith comin' now?"
"He knows you're all here."
"So, you're feelin' good?"
"Yeah, I am."
Olivia showed everyone around.
"This is absolutely gorgeous."
"Thanks, Trudy."
"Are these wedding pictures?"
"They are."
"Who took them?"
"Erin did."
"They look like a professional took them."
"Yes, they do. She gave us an entire book and put all the pics on a CD, so we can do whatever we want with them. Fin wanted proof, so I showed him the pictures. My former Captain was there, so he told Fin it really happened."
"That sounds like Fin."
Olivia couldn't help but laugh.
"It does."
They went back to the living room and Al and Meredith were there. Everyone hugged them. Olivia pulled out the book of wedding pictures and Trudy, Kim and Hailey looked at them.
"You look good, Hank."
"I'm feelin' good. It was good to get away for a few days when we went to Hawaii."
"How are things goin' with you, Erin?"
"Pretty good. How about with you guys?"
"Same crap, different day."
"Sounds about right."
"These pictures are amazing."
"No one ever includes us. Jay and Hailey got married and didn't include us and neither did Voight."
"Hailey and I didn't even include Will. Everyone is different. Not everyone wants a big wedding. Hailey and I didn't want a big fuss made out of it because it's not us. Doin' what Voight and Benson did was obviously what made sense to them."
"We really didn't want a big fuss made either. After everything we went through a year ago, we just wanted to be married. Ryan and Olive were the ones that suggested we get married together and Olive had said her dream was to get married in Hawaii with just the families. She never had that when she married Justin. I wanted my former Captain there because he's basically the father I never had and Hank wanted Al and Meredith there. Even though I would have loved to have included everyone, I'm glad we did it in Hawaii though."
After talking for a while, Olivia and Hank went to get dessert for everyone. A little while later, everyone left. The next day, everyone got up to get ready for the day. Most of the day was quite. The group from Chicago did some sightseeing and then everyone got ready for the party. Nick, George, Alex, Casey and many others that Olivia had worked with had been there, including Barba. When Hank, Olivia and Noah got there, Olivia could not believe who was there.
"Hey, Liv!"
Olivia went to give Nick a big hug.
"I'm so glad you're here."
"I was glad when Rollins called me and told me I was invited. I'm also glad you ended up with Voight."
"Me too."
"I was surprised when she told me she and Carisi were married."
"They just did something really quick at the Courthouse. They had the entire squad there and then had a party later with the girls and Hank and Noah were there too. I'm really happy for her. I'm glad she and I both get happy endings and hopefully Fin and Phoebe get theirs too."
"I get that. It was obvious you and Voight felt somethin' for each other durin' the Yates trial."
"We did but we tried to keep it casual."
"You said your ex-partner was back with the NYPD the last time I saw you."
"Yeah but I wasn't necessarily thrilled about it."
Olivia told Nick about what had happened with Elliot.
"Damn, Liv!"
"Yeah, I know. He had become obsessed with me. I don't need that."
"Did you ever tell him about you and Tucker?"
"No. He never would have understood that."
"When you first told me, I didn't either but it does sound like he was a lot different after he left IAB. As much as I didn't like the guy, he didn't deserve what he had happen to him. No one deserves that. I don't wish cancer on anyone, including him. I never would have expected Tucker to kill himself though."
"That's how I feel but at the same time, I get why he did it. I don't know if I'll ever completely get over that. I loved him more than I realized."
"Sometimes people end up falling in love with someone they never expected to. I never expected to end up with Cynthia but we're happy and Maria and I are more civil than we've been in a long time. At least Tucker told you what was goin' on. You could have just heard through the grapevine that he committed suicide and never really found out why."
"Exactly. Elliot said he heard about Tucker's death but he said it couldn't have happened to a better person and he got what he deserved. He basically said what goes around, comes around. I knew then that I wouldn't be telling him about my relationship with Ed."
"It sounds like Stabler got what he deserved too."
"Yeah, he did."
"Marriage definitely agrees with you."
"Yes, it does.
Olivia saw Rafael.
"Excuse me."
"Sure."
"Honey, I'll be back."
"Ok."
Olivia kissed Hank and went over to Rafael, while Hank stayed and caught up with Nick.
"Hey, stranger. I'm surprised you're here."
"I was invited."
"I see that, Smart Ass but I'm glad you're here. Can we talk for a few minutes?"
"Ok."
Olivia and Rafael sat down in one of the booths.
"I'm sorry. For everything."
"I didn't represent Wheatley to hurt you. I would never do anything to intentionally hurt you. I did it because I care about you."
"I know that. I had mixed feelings about Elliot being back in my life and I had been fighting my real feelings for Hank for longer than I care to admit. Elliot just wanted to get into my pants from the moment he was back in my life and Kathy was gone. I thought I had forgiven him but it's not that easy. Nearly a decade is a long time and we're both not the same people we were back then. Feelings change. At least mine have."
Olivia told Rafael everything that had happened in the last year with Hank and with Elliot.
"I can't say I'm surprised Stabler is in prison or that the Wheatleys had him beaten."
"He clearly got what he deserved."
"I'm glad you ended up with Voight."
"I am too. This is the happiest I have been. I've been wanting to work on repairing things with you but I didn't know if you would take my calls."
"I wanted to too. I think we both needed time."
"You're right. We did. At one time, Elliot was the person I could tell anything to and I thought he loved me unconditionally but after nothing for nearly a decade, every time I wanted to tell him about what I've been through, he wanted to make the entire conversation about himself. I can't have a meaningful conversation with someone like that. You know more about me than he wants to think he does and honestly, I think I'd rather have you in my life than him. Our conversations have always been 2-sided and so have my conversations with Hank or anyone else. I think Elliot being back in my life was what was making me so unhappy besides not being able to admit how I felt about Hank and what had happened between you and me. You're my best friend, Rafa and I don't ever want to mess that up again."
"I don't either and you're my best friend too. Mostly everyone here knows about what happened to you."
"That's for sure. Hank knows absolutely everything and has for a long time."
"I'm sure he loves you unconditionally."
"Yes, he does. More so than Elliot."
Olivia had tears running down her cheeks but got up and hugged Rafael.
"I love you, Rafa."
"I love you too, Liv."
"It's about damn time you two made up!"
"Thanks, Fin!"
"No problem."
Both Olivia and Rafael rolled their eyes and laughed and so did Phoebe and Amanda. Hank came over and shook Rafael's hand before he wrapped his arms around Olivia and kissed her. They went to talk to Munch, George, Alex and Casey for a while and then the food was served. Olivia had a great time catching up with old friends and some of them were meeting Noah for the first time. Everyone had dessert and by the time everyone left, Olivia promised to have everyone over for dinner sometime, which included Barba, Alex and Casey. She invited Nick and George to come over for a while before they went back to their hotel. They both took her up on it and they spent more time catching up. George enjoyed getting to know Hank and Noah better as well.
Everyone from out of town was leaving the following day. Olive and Ryan asked Hank and Olivia if Daniel and Katie could stay with them, so they could get more done with the move. They didn't have a problem with it. Hank offered help if they needed it and so did Al.
During the next few weeks, Hank and Al went to Arizona to help Olive and Ryan get things packed up for the move. Meredith stayed with the kids, while Olivia was at work. Olive had started her new job and Ryan worked on getting his license to become a social worker in New York. Once he was licensed, he worked with Olivia and her squad quite often.
During the next several months, the kids went back to school and they started preparing for the new baby. Because Olive hadn't had a baby shower when she was expecting Daniel, Olivia and Erin had planned one for her. They already knew she was having a girl. They invited Olive's sister and Ryan's family to attend a well as the ladies from Chicago and Olivia's friends, who had all gotten to know her too. Hank and Al helped Ryan with the nursery. On Valentine's Day, Olive gave birth to Noelle Olivia.
The last year and a half and gone quickly but Olivia was definitely the happiest she had ever been. She and Hank were closer than ever. She hadn't seen or heard from any of the Stablers since Elliot's trial but she knew it was for the best. She was almost sure that he still continued to obsess over her while he was in prison but he was no longer her problem. She knew who her real friends were and they were the ones that had been there for her no matter what.
