A/N: I got the idea for this after watching an episode of Doogie Howser, M.D., which I am currently rewatching. I don't own any of the characters.
Charity Auction
The NYPD was holding a charity auction. All the single female cops, who were Sergeants and higher were involved and would have a "date" with the highest bidder. While technically not single, Olivia was engaged to Hank and she hated the fact that they had asked her to participate. Ayanna and Kate weren't too happy about participating either and neither was Phoebe but Fin told her he'd win. Olivia had a sick feeling that Elliot was going to try to get a date with her this way, since she had made it perfectly clear to him that she wasn't interested because she was with someone and very happy. She expressed her feelings about all this to Hank. She told him she felt like she was betraying him and he said he trusted her completely.
On the night of the auction, the ladies got dressed up and went where they were supposed to go. The auction had started and they were doing it alphabetically, which meant Olivia was close to the beginning but at least she could get it over with. As promised, Fin was the highest bidder for Phoebe. Ayanna was just before Olivia and someone who knew her well ended up winning. Olivia was next and her stomach was in knots. What Olivia didn't know was that Hank had come in a day sooner for weekend and had hoped to be the winning bid.
"The next lovely lady is Captain Olivia Benson of the Special Victims Unit, where she has been for 24 years. Can we start the bidding at $100?"
Elliot raised his paddle and then the bid went to $200, which ended up being Hank's bid. The next bid was $300 and Trevor Langan had raised his paddle. Each time the bid went up $100, they alternated. Trevor knew that Stabler had wanted to start something with Olivia since Kathy's death but he knew she was happy with Hank. He just wanted to outbid Elliot. Hank saw that Trevor was one of the bidders and knew he was a good guy. He also knew that she had attended an adoption function with him. Trevor saw Hank and indicated that he was going to up the bidding and Hank agreed. They were already up to over $1,000. The 3 of them kept at it and by the time they were done, the winning bid was Trevor's at $20,000. When he got up, Hank gave him a thumbs up and Elliot had a disgusted look on his face. Elliot tossed his paddle and stormed off. No one could believe how high Olivia's bidding had gotten. Olivia saw who her "date" was and was relieved when he came up to her. He paid the money and then they walked out.
"Oh, thank you!"
"You're welcome."
"Ayanna, Kate, Phoebe and I agreed we'd all go out to dinner after we were done."
"Hank is here."
"Uh oh!"
"He's fine with this. We both wanted to up the bidding against Stabler."
"That was smart."
Olivia texted Hank and told him to bid on Kate because they were all going out after she was done. He replied and said he would. When it was Kate's turn, the bidding began and Hank ended up being the winner. Hank walked up to Hank and she glad it was him. He paid the money and then they joined the others. When Olivia saw Hank, she kissed him.
"Hank, thank you for being such a good sport about this."
"You're welcome. If I had to lose, I'm glad it was to Trevor."
"Damn, Liv! 20 grand for a date with you?"
"Apparently."
"Would Stabler even be good for that much money?"
"Somehow I doubt it."
"I doubt it too."
"Shall we go?"
"Sure."
They decided on a place to go and all went in their separate vehicles. They arrived at the restaurant and went in. They got their table and looked at the menu. They then had their order taken.
"Well, Stabler couldn't even win a date with Liv."
"And I am very grateful for that. You have no idea how happy I am that I'm on a "date" with someone I actually like who isn't Hank."
"I just didn't want Stabler to get a date with you."
"Me too, which is why I showed up in the first place. Like I told you before, if I had to lose, I'm glad it was to Trevor and not that Stabler guy. After he lost, he tossed his paddle and stormed off."
"That's not surprising."
"It's not. He has issues."
"And you've only been working with him for a couple years now."
"He's good at what he does but he does what he wants."
"I agree. My life was much less complicated after he left. Since he's been back, all he seems to care about is who I've dated. Like that is any of his business. I still never told him about Ed and me and he still doesn't know about what happened with Lewis. After what happened with that BX9 case, he came over and demanded to know why I didn't call him about what had happened. I told him that I didn't need him protecting me or my son. His reply to that was there's nothing wrong with him wanting to protect us. He said he would always have my back and then tried kissing me. I don't doubt that he'll always have my back but he wants more. How much more plainly do I have to put it that I am not interested in him romantically? I was very upset when he tried kissing me and he said he thought it was what I wanted. I have never indicated that I wanted him to kiss me at any point. He said if the guy I'm currently with ever loved me, we would be married by now. I know Hank loves me as much as I love him. Elliot also told me that one day I'll realize that my current relationship was a mistake and when I do, he'll be ready and waiting for me just as it was always meant to be. I kicked him out of my apartment and pretty much won't have anything to do with him even work related. I have not regretted my relationship with Hank for one minute since we have been together."
"He actually told you that?"
"He did. I'm still hurt by how he just up and left over a decade ago. There was no contact whatsoever. If you ever get a case that may involve SVU, do not send him."
"Copy that, Captain!"
"Mostly everyone else that has left either SVU or the DA's office, I've heard from in shorter amounts of time. I see Amanda all the time. I don't hear from Peter Stone but according to Hank, he's back in Chicago with the Cook County State's Attorney's office. He sees him all the time."
"I just saw him this morning and he told me to say hello to you and Noah."
"Tell him the same from us or tell him he can call me any time."
"I will do that and I did tell him that he can call you.
"Did Voight know about what happened with Stabler before now?"
"Oh, yeah! We keep nothing from each other."
"When are you two planning to make things official?"
"This summer but we're not making a big fuss about it. I don't want Elliot finding out about it and trying to mess things up for me."
"I won't say anything."
"After Noah and Hank's grandson get out of school for the summer, we're flying to LA and taking a cruise to Mexico. We're getting married on the cruise. Hank is paying for the cruise for the 6 of us. Hank is retiring at the end of April and moving here, so he will have time to get settled in before the wedding. We will have a party later on for everyone here and whoever he wants to include from Chicago."
"That sounds so romantic."
"It's what we both wanted. I knew Hank was coming in tomorrow night but I didn't know he'd be here for the auction. We close on our new place on Friday."
"I wanted to surprise you and help you out a bit with this auction thing."
"I still think you two are crazy for bidding so high for me."
"Would you rather have had Stabler be the winning bidder?"
"Definitely not! He'd probably try to get more out of it."
They continued talking and then their food arrived. After dinner, they talked some more before they said goodnight and then everyone headed home. When Olivia and Hank arrived at her apartment, they parked and went up. Erin was asleep on the sofa with the TV on. Hank locked up, while Olivia shut the TV off and covered Erin with a blanket. She shut the lights off and they headed towards her bedroom. They looked in on Noah and continued to the bedroom. They both got ready for bed and then they made love. Afterwards Hank had his arms wrapped around her and she had her head on his chest.
"It's not very often that I have a date with someone and end up going home with someone else."
"Smart ass!"
"I love you. You know that."
"Yeah, I do. I love you too."
They kissed again and then Olivia fell asleep in Hank's arms. During the next few days, Hank helped Olivia pack while she was at work and then by Friday, they closed on their new place. Once they had the closing, they started moving some stuff. Erin spent time with them as well before Hank went back to Chicago for his last few weeks with CPD.
