A/N: This is another request from HMG2000. Jay is still with Intelligence and Amanda is still with SVU. I don't own any of the characters except my own.

Small Town vs. Big City

A case had taken both the Intelligence Unit and SVU to a small town in Ohio, since both had been looking for the same person. Hank knew Olivia would take over the case, since she outranked him and he was perfectly fine with that as long as the guy was no longer a threat to anyone. That was all he cared about. Both units had driven out there and had ok'd it with the FBI, since they were both crossing state lines to solve the case. When they arrived and met with the local Sheriff's Department, they were not thrilled to have these big city police departments invading their turf. They pretty much would only talk to Hank, since the Sheriff's Department in this town was pretty old school and felt women did not belong in the law enforcement field other than behind a desk. Olivia and Hank had gone to talk to the victim but she did not feel comfortable talking to men, so he left everything to Olivia and sent Amanda in instead.

"I'm surprised he backed off like that."

"He's good about letting me take over cases when we work together."

"How often is that?"

"Actually, not as often as we'd like. He's in Chicago and I'm from New York and we have had some cases we've worked on together in the past."

Then Amanda came in.

"This is Detective Rollins."

"Hi. Nice to meet you."

"You too."

"Did Sergeant Voight say where he was headed?"

"I think he said he was headin' to see if he could get the lab results moved along."

"That's a good idea."

Amanda and Olivia talked to the victim. Hank had arrived at the lab, or what they called their crime lab, to see what the status was. He parked his vehicle and went in. He could tell the they weren't as up to date on the latest of anything in this town, so he knew it might be a while before they got any results.

"Can I help you?"

"I need to get any lab results you can give me on the Laura Dennison case."

"They're workin' on it but it could be a while. Come on in."

"Thanks."

Hank went in, sat down and started looking through the file that he had brought with him.

"So, where you from?"

"Chicago."

"Never been there."

"I'm not surprised."

"Your first time here?"

"Yep."

"You're not much of a talker, are you?"

"I am when I wanna be but mostly with my family, friends and co-workers."

"I'm Diane Michaels."

"Sergeant Hank Voight."

"You're handsome and that voice of yours is sexy. You married?"

"No."

"You have a girlfriend?"

"Why?"

"I'm just curious. Who knows, I might be interested."

"It's really none of your business but I have a fiancee."

"You two exclusive?"

"I'm not comfortable havin' this conversation with a complete stranger."

"City life sounds awfully boring to me."

"I wouldn't change it for anything."

About an hour later, Hank was still waiting for the results and he was uncomfortable sitting there with this woman, who was obviously coming onto him. He wished Olivia was there. Then Olivia came in.

"Hey."

"Hey."

"Any results yet?"

"Outside."

Hank got up and then he and Olivia went outside.

"That woman is comin' onto me."

"You're not the only one. That handsy Sheriff keeps calling me 'Darlin' and he keeps grabbing my ass. The only man that can grab my ass like that is you."

"And because we're workin', it's inappropriate. If he does it again and I see him do it, I won't hesitate to protect you."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

Olivia kissed Hank and then they went back inside.

"I should have the results you wanted in a few minutes. How about drinks tonight?"

"I have plans."

"Really? With who?"

"If you must know, he has plans with me."

"You? Why? I thought you were engaged."

"I am. To her."

"Your results might have to wait a little longer."

"Why?"

"No particular reason."

Hank and Olivia both walked out.

"What kind of town is this? How do we know they aren't tainting the results?"

"We don't."

Both teams arrived and they told their respective bosses what they found out, while Hank and Olivia told them what was going on with them.

"Oh, nice."

"I've got a handsy Sheriff coming onto me and Hank has this administrative person coming onto him. She said she should have the results soon and now all of a sudden because she knows he's with me, we might have to wait a little longer."

"This town seems pretty backwards. I get the vic being afraid of men but in the real world, women are as capable of being cops as men are. She has a 13-year old daughter that he may or may not have raped as well."

The Sheriff arrived.

"Is there anyway we can get out results any faster? We have a case we need to close out?"

"There's nothin' I can do about it. That's all up to Diane. You and that gorgeous ass of yours can meet me in my office anytime though."

"I wouldn't meet you anywhere if you were the only man on earth."

"Suit yourself. You don't know what you're missin'. I could rock your world."

"I've already had my world rocked by my fiancé."

"What he doesn't know, won't hurt him. If you know what I mean."

The Sheriff winked at Olivia.

"You talk to her or wink at her like that again, I will break your arm. You understand me?"

"Loud and clear."

"Now, we would like the lab results for our case and we want them without you tryin' to get Captain Benson into bed and Diane tryin' to get me into bed. Is that understood?"

"Yes."

"Now, I want you to apologize to the lady."

"Ma'am, I apologize for my behavior."

"Thank you."

The Sheriff went to get the results, while Olivia thanked Hank. He came and gave them to Olivia. It turned out they were a match to the guy they were looking for. Olivia pulled up a picture of the guy they were looking for.

"Any ideas where this guy might be? The vic has a 13-year old daughter that he may or may not have raped."

"Follow me."

Everyone got into their vehicles and followed the Sheriff to a house. The group from the Sheriff's Department was there too. He had already had warrants if they needed them.

"This isn't the first time we've seen him. We usually know everything that goes on in this town and normally it's pretty quiet around here. I already have a warrant."

They walked up to the door and the Sheriff knocked.

"SHERIFF! OPEN UP!"

No one answered. They rammed the door and searched the house. No one was in the main part of the house. They had gone down to the basement and found another door. They got the door opened and found a young girl of maybe 13. Olivia went over to her but she seemed scared.

"What's your name, Sweetheart?"

"Kylie."

"Kylie, I'm Olivia. Are you ok?"

"He raped me and I think my mom too. I don't where my mom is."

Olivia then showed Kylie a picture.

"Is this the man?"

"Yes."

"Is Laura your mom?"

"Yes. Is she ok?"

"She's ok. Do you know where the man went?"

"No but he left me here and told me if I told anyone anything, he'd kill me and my mom."

"She needs to get to the hospital."

Kim and Amanda both left with Kylie to head to the hospital, while Hailey headed to where Laura was to let her know they had found Kylie. As they were all leaving, their perp came back from wherever he was. He saw all of them and tried running. Mostly everyone ran after him. He started shooting at them and they shot back. Someone hit him in the leg and he fell to the ground. Someone kicked his weapon out of the way and then they cuffed him. They called an ambulance to let him go to the hospital to have his leg looked at and then he was questioned. Someone from SVU and Intelligence was present as the Sheriff's Department for questioning. He was being charge with multiple counts of rape and murder. They booked him and had him locked up.

Everyone had met at a local bar after both teams had checked in at the closest hotel chain for the night before heading back to Chicago and New York the next day. Hank and Olivia were off by themselves when both the Sheriff and Diane came over to them.

"I am sorry for my behavior. We sometimes don't like when other police come into our turf and take over."

"I understand. We don't like that in our cities either. Thank you for allowing us to solve our case."

"You're welcome."

"I apologize too. I came on a little too strongly."

"I did too. It was inappropriate. After seeing what really goes on with these types of cases, we'd like to make some changes, including adding more women to the Department. Maybe you can point us in the right direction."

"Sure. Here's my card. I can get you information on any resources to help you out. It isn't easy being a woman in this line of work. I've had to work hard to get where I am."

"I get it. It took me havin' to work with all of you to make me realize how backwards things really are here. Here's my card too. How long have you been a cop, Captain?"

"Over 30 years. I've been with SVU for 25, which is a long time to be in one unit. I love what I do. I love being able help victims and getting justice for them. Sometimes the perps end up getting killed in jail, especially of a child is involved and the victims are ok with that as long as they get some kind of closure."

"We've heard that. I must say, Sergeant, I have never had anyone stand up to me the way you did. You had every right to talk to me like that."

"He doesn't take any crap from anyone."

"Apparently not. How often do your squads work together?"

"Not as often as we'd like to. This particular case happened to cross both of our desks and it led us here at the same time."

"How do you two manage in two different cities though?"

"It's not easy but we've made it work. It won't be for much longer though. He's retiring next month and moving to New York."

"Does the fact that she ranks higher than you bother you?"

"No. She's good at what she does and she's one of the only people who can put me in my place and actually get away with it. When we met, we were both Sergeants and she's gotten two promotions in about 9½ years. We've known each other that long."

"How long have you actually been together?"

"6 years but we've been engaged for 3. He's been supportive of a lot in the time we've known each other. We're ready to make it official."

"Big wedding?"

"Not really. Both squads and our family and close friends."

"Good luck to both of you."

"Thank you."

Diane and the Sheriff left.

"You ready to go?"

"I am. I just need some time alone with you."

"Let's go."

Hank and Olivia said goodnight to their squads and left the bar hand in hand. They headed to the hotel. When they arrived, they went up to their room and put the 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door. They started kissing, went over to the bed, undressed each other and made love. Afterwards, Hank had his arms wrapped around her and she had her head on his chest.

"I'm glad we got some extra time together."

"Me too. It hasn't been that long since we last saw each other, since we just spent sometime together for Valentine's Day."

"It just seems so long sometimes."

"I know it does. Is Elliot still givin' you a hard time?"

"Pretty much, yeah. He keeps saying I don't love you and the only reason we're not married is because I'm still fighting my feelings for him. That's not true. We agreed that we'd get married when we could be in the same city all the time."

"I know you love me. I have never doubted that for a second. The fact that we aren't married yet is on both of us. I just had to make sure whoever was takin' over Intelligence was ready. I think Halstead is finally ready."

"Exactly. I don't want Elliot finding out where and when the wedding is and having him try to stop it because I know he will."

"No one will mess with us. You have my word on that."

"I always know you mean it when you say that. You've always been a man of your word."

"For you, always."

"I love you."

"I love you too."

They started kissing and made love again before they got ready for bed and fell asleep in each other's arms. Everyone else arrived back at the hotel and went to bed.

During the night, their perp had been killed in custody. The Sheriff found out and contacted both Hank and Olivia. Both squads got up, got ready, checked out of the hotel and went out for breakfast. Hank and Olivia told the squads that the perp had been killed in custody and none of them were surprised. After breakfast, both squads said goodbye to each other and headed back to their respective cities after they stopped to see Laura and Kylie to let them know what had happened. They were both relieved that they would not have to face him again. Hank and Olivia always had a hard time saying goodbye to each other whenever they parted but in just another month, they would be in the same city and be able to be together all the time.

As always, reviews are appreciated.
