"The sins of humanity must be purged to bring about true justice."
The Courier awoke suddenly to someone shaking him violently
"COURIER 6, WAKE THE FUCK UP! THEY'RE FUCKING HERE!" It was Vaggie, who looked exasperated at The Courier still being asleep. The Courier quickly reached for the super sledgehammer on the table, his hands shaking violently. The Courier's gaze went to the window, as he saw 7 Exorcists, including Adam flying towards them. He felt the blood drain out of his face, as his hands started to shake uncontrollably. He never had to fight Angels, or beings with magical abilities, he could stare a Deathclaw mother in the face, but this? This felt too much for him. He started to pace the lobby, his thoughts grim, Vaggie grabbed him by the shoulders forcefully and stared deep into his lens.
"Listen, I fucking get it, you're scared, it's an opponent you think you can't take out, but you can at least distract them long enough for me to do the heavy work."
The Courier nodded, trying to control his shaking hands, as Vaggie led him out the lobby, outside, where everyone was staring at them. Before anyone could say anything to The Courier, Adam spoke up for them.
"Well well well, if it isn't that armored little bitch with his little fucking magic act… see you've got a nice new fuckin' design… Too bad that won't fuckin stop us, we know your fucking little secret pal, just like how we know about that ol fucking traitor's." Adam pointed his blade at Vaggie, The Courier once again felt the further blood drain out from his face, as his hands shook uncontrollably yet again. Everyone turned to The Courier, Vaggie stared at the Courier, confused, before returning her gaze to Adam.
"What does he mean by 'teleporting'?" she thought to herself as The Courier said nothing and stared at Adam who continued his self-aggrandizing spiel.
"Got nothing to say about that, Tincan? Didn't bother telling your little fucking pally wallies? How goddamn fucking pathetic." The Courier's fist balled up, something Adam noticed.
"Oh, you're gonna fight back? Guess what fucko, still not gonna stop us from slaughtering your little fuckin' band of misfits."
The Courier finally realized, even after hearing about the abhorrent actions of those like Valentino and many of those at the hotel that the Angels, the beacons of hope and light, were often worse than the sinners who murdered not out of boredom or an exploitative drive for wealth, but out of both bloodlust and a sense of moral superiority, something that disgusted his deepest senses and it reminded him of the Enclave, supposedly helping to build a better future, only to kill anyone not considered one of their own. Adam smirked, as he just pointed at Charlie.
"I could start with Tincan, but since you're the one who came up with this whole bullshit 'redemption' idea, you can be first."
One of his subordinates stepped up, rushing at Charlie, their spear pointed towards her chest. Angel Dust, Vaggie, and Husk all stared in shock, while Alastor's grin only widened, his eyes wide. Before even Charlie could raise her hands, a "Clank!" was heard. Charlie felt no pain, and as she opened her eyes, a dawn of horror arrived on her face. The Courier had jumped in the way, the blade where his heart was…or that was what everyone thought, as all they saw was a trickle of blood where the wound was. The Exorcist was shocked, frozen, as The Courier grabbed the Super Sledgehammer on his back. She tried to pull her blade out, but it was too late, with The Courier using the sledgehammer's handle to free himself from the blade, the hammer snapping it in half.
Seeing the distraction, Vaggie grabbed her spear, sprinting towards another Exorcist, while Charlie was just standing there, still shocked at The Courier's willingness to protect her.
"I think you fucked with the wrong…" Vaggie quipped in the moment she caught the Exorcist off-guard, being interrupted with a counter which she managed to artfully dodge with a cut to her cheek.
The Courier grabbed the spear out of his chest, pulling it out with a sickening noise as the cybernetics crackled with the dislodging. The Exorcist, now virtually defenseless, attempted to fly out The Courier however managed to slice the Exorcist's neck, golden blood splattering his helmet and clothing as the angel crumpled, writhing slightly as they bled out on the crimson soil. Adam seeing the fact HIS army were taking losses, decided that he had to intervene, extending his arm, trying to figure out who to shoot his holy beam at. He decided to aim at The Courier, seeing he was at his weakest, focused the illustrious golden energy beam from his palm, striking The Courier in the chest and sent him flying into the hotel, cracking the wall, peeling off and falling a few feet, Golden electricity sparkled on The Courier's form as he twitched once, twice, and then fell limp, his lens cracked.
The short battle had ended, with Charlie looking at The Courier, then Adam. Adam, knowing Charlie was about to go nuts on her, whistled, flying up into the air, lucky that the losses were that only one of his Exorcists died and that only another was injured due to Vaggie.
"C'mon, we gotta get the fuck outta here, Princess is about to throw a tantrum and I don't wanna be on the receiving end on that. Yet." They made their egress through a heavenly gate, which closed upon their entry. Charlie and Vaggie rushed over to The Courier, panicking.
"Shit shit shit, come on Courier, get up." Vaggie shook him roughly, but got no response. She looked at Charlie, her tone harsh. "Charlie, help me get him into the fucking lobby, NOW!" She grabbed The Courier's legs, while Charlie grabbed the arms, with Angel Dust and Husk opening the front doors for them, nervous. They laid him on the couch, with Vaggie immediately going at his helmet locks. Charlie spoke up, her hands shaking wildly.
"S-Should we really do this? M-Maybe we should focus on his chest? That's where he got hit-" Vaggie gave Charlie an icy stare, shutting Charlie up. She got the locks off, quickly taking the helmet off.
"...Holy shit." Vaggie just stared at The Courier's face, which was scarred all over. That wasn't the surprising part, the surprising part was that he was human, pale skin, normal human features. Heavy stubble was on his face, and noticeably two bullet scars on his forehead.
"How the fuck did he survive that? Must've been a 9 mil…" Angel Dust pointed at it, impressed, meanwhile Vaggie just took his coat off and cut open his shirt, trying to focus on his wound.
"What the?" She stared at the wound in chest, but instead of seeing his heart or blood vessels, she found advanced technology, which had replaced it.
"Fuck, He's got cybernetics…" Charlie had her mouth open in a perfect comical "o", while Alastor chucked quietly.
"How the fuck did he get here?" Husk slurred slightly, amped from the adrenaline of combat
"How the fuck did he even survive that beam if he's a fucking human?"
Vaggie just turned to Charlie, "Grab his legs."
"Okay."
She grabbed The Courier's legs this time, with Vaggie grabbing his arms, Angel Dust scurried to the supply closet to grab whatever things that could be considered "medical". They slowly walked up the stairs, Alastor opening the door with a wave of his hand. Laying The Courier on his bed, with Angel Dust giving Vaggie some tape and rubbing alcohol. She poured the rubbing alcohol first lightly, before applying the tape. She got up, nodding to herself, it would have to do.
"Come on, let's leave him to rest." Charlie glanced at The Courier, before nodding. The others left, with Alastor muttering something to Vaggie as they left. The last person to leave was Charlie, who before she left, turned to The Courier's unconscious form.
"Thank you." She left, closing the door gently. Whatever doubts Vaggie had about The Courier were lessened, albeit still there.
"Do you think this is some scheme, some tactic? What's his view? He's only been here for 2 weeks, yet ends up risking his own life for you? It seems odd."
Charlie just shrugged, "He stood up for me again, like in that meeting... I don't think he's doing this for himself… I could tell if he was…" They continued to walk down the stairs talking, with Alastor eavesdropping in on their conversation, all while The Courier dreamed.
Sorry if this chapter didn't live up to the hype, or the dialogue was really weak, but I did have two of my friends help me with this! Also, in the next fight between Adam and The Courier, it will be a true battle.
