Hello and welcome to the rewritten first chapter of Worlds Collide! Here, things will be mildly different but yet, still similar. After much thought, I've decided to take a whole new approach to this story and keep the same plot. I look forward to your reviews!

Disclaimer: I do not own the Inugang but I do own Kaya and Maemi :)

Red eyes

His hand around her throat, his mouth twisted in a sickening smile

A gentle, menacing whisper in her ear

"You will die by my hands,"

She shot up in her bed and looked around. Her pale skin was slick with sweat, her heart racing in her chest, and her eyes wide with fright. No one was there with her but this wasn't the first time she had these nightmares. They all seemed to be the same but with the events playing in different ways.

There was always a man with long black hair and red eyes that would stand across from her, that same smile on his face. An ominous black cloud surrounded him, causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand up in a frightened manner. He would charge at her, pinning her to the ground, attempting to choke the life out of her while murmuring in that sweet voice how he planned to kill her. In another version of that same nightmare, she would see long silver hair and gold eyes that came to her rescue though that person was late each and every time. Her body was exhausted from the high stress and overwhelming emotions that would plague her during the nights.

Getting out of her bed, she reached up and wiped the sweat off her brow before throwing on her robe that sat on the chair by her bedside. She made her way out of her room and down the long hallway, toward the main staircase. The manor was dark and silent, her servants having left many hours ago. While it was hard to see with it being a new moon out, her feet had expertly carried her to the kitchen where she started to make a cup of tea.

"Have another nightmare, Kaya?"

The sudden voice nearly made the white-haired woman lose her freshly made cup of chamomile tea. She merely nodded as she worked on finishing her drink and taking a seat at the small table in the kitchen.

"They're getting more and more common. You must see a physician for this, child."

Kaya's tired eyes looked up at the red-headed woman in front of her, frowning lightly. "While I appreciate the concern, Maemi, I do not think a physician could help with this."

"And why not?" The middle-aged female took a seat across from her, setting the candle she was holding down between them. "Perhaps he could give you medication for these dreams."

"I don't think they're dreams, per se." Kaya shook her head before taking a sip of her tea. "They feel almost like a premonition."

"Of you dying? Ridiculous!"

She didn't answer her at first, staring down at her tea. "Perhaps I should speak to grandfather about this. He might know something."

Maemi let out a long sigh and reached up, pinching the bridge of her nose in slight annoyance. "That old man believes that he's the keeper of all ancient knowledge." Looking up as she heard Kaya snicker, she smiled softly. "But if you feel that is best, then you should leave in the morning. Tokyo is quite the journey from here."

"And while I'm gone, please look into getting electricity in here. We're in the 21st century, not the 19th, and my room being the only one with lights seems odd."

The older woman chuckled, nodding. "Yes, my lady. The staff and I will ask around."

No other dreams disturbed her after that. Kaya felt a bit more refreshed in the morning after a few hours of deep sleep and was well on her way to the train station shortly after sunrise. She had managed to snag an ekiben before they were sold out and picked at it while she sat, staring at the scenery that the train passed. The beauty of her home was something she appreciated unlike the busy streets of Toyko which was something she dreaded.

After stepping off the train, she then started the long walk to the Higurashi shrine, the midday summer sun blaring down on her. Summer was her enemy, the heat consistently causing issues with her already pale and cold skin. Kaya quickened her pace as she made her way across the city. Her destination greeted her with the massive staircase that she loathed and she groaned, letting out an annoyed sigh.

"I'm not sure whose brilliant idea it was to put these here but whoever it was, I hope you're proud of yourself." Kaya grumbled under her breath as she ascended the stairs, gripping the strap connected to her bag on her hip. When you don't use these stairs every day like the Higurashi family of Tokyo, they'll knock the wind out of you which is exactly what happened to Kaya. Despite how she was physically fit, they still took their toll on her when she would visit her family.

She knocked on the door to the house and was quickly greeted by Kagome's mother. Bowing, she smiled up at the older woman. "Forgive me for showing up so unexpectedly but-"

"Nonsense. Come in!" Kagome's mother cut her off, stepping aside to let the young woman in, and smiled brightly at her. Eyeing Kaya up and down, her smile softened into a frown, and she ushered her into the kitchen. "Have you not been sleeping well again? You look rather exhausted."

Kaya slipped on the slippers provided for her at the door and she was soon pulled into the kitchen and made to sit down at the table. "That's why I'm here. I thought I could ask grandfather about these… Dreams."

"Father left early this morning for several appointments so I'm sorry to say that he won't be home for a while." Kagome's mother was rather apologetic about it as she set a small cup of tea in front of the young woman at the table. "You're welcome to spend the day here. Kagome is off on her adventures currently."

That's right, she had forgotten about that. Kagome often spoke about these adventures she would go on with these otherworldly friends she had. A demon slayer, a monk, a fox, and some half-demon she met. While this may sound odd to a normal, modern-day person, to Kaya, it wasn't. She had been around demon slayers and monks before. Demons and half-demons? Now, that was odd to her. Demons haven't been around in centuries and half-demons were often killed in infancy.

Sipping the tea, Kaya hummed as she thought about what the woman had said. She had heard about this mysterious well and she was curious about it. Setting the cup down, she asked, "would it be acceptable if I were to investigate this well Kagome speaks of?"

"I don't see why it wouldn't."

Not wasting a moment, Kaya had slipped her wedges back on her aching feet and was standing in front of the ancient well. She could feel the magic emanating from it and the darkness behind it. This caused her hair to stand on end and she frowned, gripping her flashlight tightly as she looked down into the darkness.

"Fascinating," She murmured as she shone the light down into the bottom of the well, staring as if something would happen if she stood there long enough. "A portal to a different time is something I have definitely never heard of." Clicking the flashlight off, she dug around in the bag at her hip and pulled out her phone, searching on the web to see if she could find more information on this subject.

Nothing.

Kaya sat down on the edge of the well and frowned, glaring at her phone with an unhappy look in her violet eyes. She had been there for about an hour now, trying to find information on this interesting idea and there was nothing but hypothetical or unrealistic theories out there about it. Turning the screen off, she sighed and looked at the doors of the wellhouse. The young woman knew that this was going to be frustrating but she didn't think that it would be this difficult.

A little voice in the back of her mind told her that this was connected to her nightmares, that this was important, and that she needed to be there. For what reason? She wasn't sure. Though she felt that she was being pointed in the right direction when it came to the answers to the many questions that swirled around in her mind.

Unknowingly to her, she had sat there for over an hour, going over the questions that she had running through her head and what the possible answers could be. Kaya knew that the answers weren't as simple as they seemed. No, they were far more complex. Her answers were most likely not going to be obvious to her but maybe to others. That's where grandfather came in. Perhaps he knew.

Groaning in annoyance and frustration, she stood up and glared down into the well. Knowing she looked rather ridiculous standing there, she was hoping that the inanimate object would give her the answers that she sought but she knew it wouldn't. With a shake of her head, she turned around. She turned around so quickly that she lost control of her balance and her feet twisted up together. The next thing she knew, she was falling into the well.
