Kaiju Fighters Ch. 02
After an hour of wandering around the city, they finally found the building that's address was on the note. It's a small building that looks no different than the others. When the trio enters the building, they are greeted by two nearly identical women, both with sort black hair tied in a bun, and wearing a kimono. One was wearing an orange kimono with some yellow, the other a blue one with a lighter blue almost green.
"Greetings!" they spoke in unison. "We're glad you could make it."
Anguirus steps up to them. "Hey! I know you. You're those tiny women that were always with Mosura."
"That's right," the one in orange says. "I am Moll, and this is my sister, Lora," she indicates to the one in blue. "We are the Shobijin."
Lora gestures down the hallway, "If you will follow us, we'll show you to your seats," she tells them before she and Moll walk down it. The kaiju just follows them.
After a short while, Rodan decides to speak. "You two girls say that you where the two fairies that always hanged with Mosura right?"
They answer, "That's right."
"I thought you were about a foot tall?" the former pterosaur holds his hands out to indicate the size.
Moll turns her head to him. "And we thought you had a three-hundred-foot wingspan?"
Rodan nods approvingly, "Touché."
Anguirus walks up to them. "The two of you wouldn't happen to know how we look like this?" He gestures to himself and the others.
Lora tells them, "Everything will be explained shortly, once we meet up with Lady Mosura."
That is when Gojira impatiently growls. "Where is Mosura anyway?"
The women speak in unison again. "She will be joining us for dinner."
"DINNER!" Anguirus shouts. "That's great! I skipped lunch."
Rodan was drooling over the idea of food. Gojira just stared at them not seeing the big deal until he hears a loud growl coming from his stomach. That's when the Kaiju King realized he hadn't eaten all day either.
They finally arrived in a large room with a rectangle table that is more than large enough for all of them to sit at. The kaiju each takes a seat at one end of the table. Gojira, taking the seat at the end with the other two taking a seat at either side of him.
The Shobijin stand in front of the trio and Moll says, "If you will please excuse us?"
Lora chimes in, "We will bring dinner out shortly."
And the two leave through a set of doors on the other side of the room.
After a few minutes, the doors open back up and the trio is assaulted by an aroma of what they assume to be their meals. The twins are pushing carts full of all sorts of things, from what the trio recognize as meat, a few bowls of leaves, and many things that they do not recognize.
The Shobijin put all the plates and bowls onto the table. As soon as a slab of meat was sat in front of Anguirus, he reaches his hand out, eager to savor it. Only for Moll to swat his hand away.
"Wait until we're ready," she scolds.
With all the food sat at the table, one would think that they were prepared to feed five families.
The twins pushed the carts to the side and then walked over to the doors to stand at opposite sides.
"We now present…" Lora says.
"Our hostess," Moll continues.
"Mosura," they finish in unison. As if on cue the door opens to reveal a tall woman with short brown hair with bright blue eyes, wearing a brown kimono with a yellow pattern. She looked at the three other present kaiju and smiles.
"Salutations! It's nice to see my friend's again." she spoke with a soft kind voice that would bring peace to anyone who hears it.
Gojira is the first to reply to the welcome. "It's nice to see you to, Mosura."
The Guardian of peace comes to take a seat at the end of the table opposite him with the Shobijin sitting on either side of her.
"I do hope you will enjoy dinner?" she picks up a small pair of sticks and starts eating some leaves piled onto a large plate.
The two fairies were eating some leaves as well, just in a smaller portion.
Rodan and Anguirus did not waste a second grabbing at whatever was in their reach and inhaling it. Though, the two did avoid any of the leafy stuff.
Gojira looks at the others as they eat. As good as it smells he did not see the big deal. The former kaiju eyes a pair of sticks on the table, just like what the others were using. He picks them up and uses it to grab a bit that he knew was meat covered in a thick red liquid. As soon as it contacted his tongue, his taste buds exploded with flavors he never knew existed and he starts inhaling everything he can reach.
When everyone had finished eating, the Shobijin starts cleaning up the table when Rodan lets out a strange loud roar. "Burp! Man! That was the best meal I ever had."
"The stake was pretty good," Ang tells them. "but I prefer it medium rare with a can of sake."
"Sorry, Anguirus," Lora tells him. "Sake or any other alcoholic beverages will not be allowed on the premises."
"Aw, c'mon!"
"Excuse me!" Everyone's attention was brought to Mosura. When she speaks she hardly needs to yell, everyone just listens. "I've brought you here not only to have a nice meal with my friends," she tells them while standing up. "Also, because I know you have some questions about what happened, and I have answers,"
Everyone stares at her in silence thinking about what to ask first.
Gojira is the first to speak.
"What was that thing I fought?" the anger in his tone is obvious.
The former moth shakes her head. "To be honest, I don't know," Mosura tells them. "The only thing I remember was a large shadow that destroyed everything it touched and that it was too late to save our world," she said with regret. "It's as if something is blocking it from view."
Rodan looks at her. "If it was too late, then where are we?"
"We are in another world like ours, yet different."
Anguirus scratches his head. "But how is that even possible?"
"By performing an ancient ritual that allows travel between worlds," When Mosura said that it seemed like the entire planet went into silence. "The ritual was created especially for that occasion. When the world was coming to an end and all hope seemed lost. It was supposed to save as many lives in the dying world as possible. Some even thought that the deceased would return to the living," as that last part left her lips, she glances at the Shobijin as a tear comes down from her face. "However, it would also drain the world of all of its remaining energy thus making it a last resort."
Gojira then asks the one question on all their minds. "Why do we look like Humans?"
The Shobijin stands up, "We have a theory on that."
Mosura takes that as her cue to sit back down.
Moll is the first to speak. "We believe that this world is surrounded by a barrier."
And Lora continues, "This barrier would prevent anything that couldn't exist in this world from entering."
"Like an atomic dinosaur for example," Moll refers to Gojira.
"In order for the ritual to complete its job…"
"It would have to break the barrier enough to let you through."
"But as a side effect for letting you through."
"The barrier started to take away what made you a kaiju."
The two finishes in unison. "Until you resembled that of the world's most dominated race," and they sit back down.
"As you can see," Mosura holds out her hands and starts spinning silk from her wrists into a ball. "It didn't entirely work," she looks at Rodan's wings and Anguirus' spikes. "It appears we maintained some aspects from when we were kaiju. You on the other hand, Gojira, appear more human than I thought you would?"
Gojira looks down at his arm, knowing where she is going with this conversation.
"As if!" Anguirus slams his hand on the table. "You should have seen him when he was fighting off some thugs. I'm only surprised that he didn't roast any of them," he chuckles.
"I couldn't!" Gojira smashes his fists through the table, breaking it. Everyone just stares at him feeling worried. "Earlier I was shot by a human, I wanted him to burn," he pauses for a moment. "But I just couldn't," he is still looking down, disappointed in himself. "That's not all," Gojira took off his coat revealing a bloodied bandage wrapped around his arm. "It should've healed by now," and removes the bandage to show the deep gash made from the bullet wound. "It felt worse than getting hit by a maser cannon."
"Gojira," Mosura's soothing voice manages to calm the angered kaiju. "I was afraid that this would happen. When I woke up it appeared that even though I turned into a human I maintained minor aspects of my larva form instead of imago. It seems a similar thing happened to you. I'm not sure if it would apply to others, but we have been brought back to our origin forms," she tells. "Back from before I created my cocoon and…"
"Before the exposure of nuclear radiation."
The room is silent once again.
Rodan is the one to break the silence. "No sweat big guy," and places a hand on Gojira's shoulder. "All we need to do is get some of that nuke stuff and—" but he gets cut off by Mosura.
"We can't do that!" she screams, catching everyone off guard. After taking a moment to calm herself down, the Guardian spoke. "Even if we got some nuclear material. We're not even sure that the laws of this world would allow him to survive the exposure. Gojira could die," the former moth faces Gojira. "I am truly sorry."
"Don't worry!" Ang tries to reassure his friend. "You still have some of your strength. I am perhaps your oldest friend and if there is one thing that I know is that you will always come out on top, no matter what," he stops for a moment to see if his pep talk is working. It didn't look like it was. "And because you don't have all your powers doesn't make you any less of a kaiju you were back then. Besides, you still got us," he finishes, hoping that last part didn't sound as cheesy as he thinks it did.
Gojira just stands up, puts the bandage and his coat back on, and heads to the door.
"You are good friends but that doesn't change anything," those are Gojira's last words before leaving.
Rodan calls out, "Hey, wait up!" and starts to head after him but the Shobijin got in his way. "Let me through!"
"Let him go, Rodan," Mosura tells him. "We all know how stubborn he can be when his mind is made up. But I believe he will come back to his senses," she looks to them. "For now, I want to talk to you about some other suppressing matters. If you will please follow me?"
.oOo,
Mosura leads her friends to a large room full of tables and chairs overlooking a desk. Everyone takes a set.
Anguirus leans back in his chair. "So, Mosura, what do you want to talk about now?"
"Well, I had hoped that Gojira would stick around long enough to hear this," she sighs. "As I have said before about the ritual, saving as many lives as possible. It might have brought more kaiju than humans."
Rodan shrugs. "I don't see what the problem is. It's not like we can cause that much trouble now that we are human sized."
Anguirus laughs, "Ha! Says the guy who crashed into five moving cars."
"I only crashed into two cars, and one of them was a semi," Rodan shivers as he revisits the painful memory.
Mosura leans forward. "I'm more worried about the possibility of the kaiju that do more than causing trouble being in this world," she now carries a more serious look. "Ones like Destoroyah, Gigan, or—"
Anguirus interrupts her, "Kamacarus!" he says. "We actually ran into her when we first arrived."
"Then you know what I am talking about," Mosura is concerned. "The people here have never seen anything like us, and we are the only ones who can protect them," she pleas. "With the way, I am now there is not much I can do to help."
Ang growls, "I still remember how the humans treated us in our world. What makes you think that these humans are any different?"
The Pterosaur crosses his arms, "Yeah! And what's in it for us?"
"You mean besides free room and board," Mosura answers. "This world is different than our old one. Here the humans don't know us yet and given the chance they could see us as more than just monsters," she finishes her argument hoping they would listen.
Anguirus and Rodan looked at each other in agreement.
Rodan stands up, "We're in."
Anguirus looks to Mosura, "It's not like it'll be that much different from bounty hunting. What do you want us to do?"
Mosura smiles at their decision, "I managed to contact the government and told them what I told you. At first, they didn't believe me but after some convincing I got them to start funding this little operation. On the condition that I find others that would help and prove that we can stop this threat."
"How do we find other kaiju, good or bad?" Rodan asks.
"The same way we found you. Girls!" Mosura called the Shobijin in. "As you are aware, just like when you passed through into this world you were turned into humans. Something similar happened to the Shobijin. They are now more human than they were, but they kept some of their telepathic abilities. It takes time, but they can scan the world and detect kaiju activity. When a kaiju is detected then you will come to the mission room here and be told where you need to go."
As Mosura explains this to the kaiju, the Shobijin had closed their eyes and started searching. They seem at peace. Then, Lora suddenly screams before falling to the floor.
Moll is quickly by her sister's side, "Lora, what did you see?"
"I was in a warehouse somewhere near the docks. I see a weird machine. Not of Earthly design and two figures near it. They were talking I don't know what they were saying. Then someone said, we are not alone, and it felt like someone grabbed me by the neck. Then I was back here," Lora cries and rubs her neck where you an impression of a large hand can be seen.
Anguirus grunts as he stands, "Well I guess we know where our first mission is?"
Mosura turns to them, "Are you sure?" she asks worriedly. "Anyone who could harm Lora physically from a mental link would be very powerful."
Rodan boasts, "Don't worry. No one can beat the two of us," the duo high fived before heading out.
Mosura helps Moll take her sister to their room just as Lora shudders as she lets the next words part from her lips, "The King of Terror!"
Mosura is terrified from hearing this. She runs to warn her friends. However, she is too late, they were long gone.
Moll calls for her, "Mosura!" and runs up behind her. "You heard what Lora said. We have to do something."
The Divine Moth turns to her priestess, "I'm sorry, Moll, but they're already gone. The only thing we can do is have faith that a miracle would happen."
