Kaiju Fighters Ch. 08
Deep down in the mine, the Fighters have been traveling for a long while now and there has been no evidence of any Meganula.
Manda wheezes "How, how much further do we have to go?"
Baragon shrugs "Not sure. These mines go down for miles and miles. Who knows when we will even find a sign of the pests?"
Suddenly, a swarm of the Meganula comes crawling towards the kaiju. However, they ignored everyone and head straight for Gojira and overcome him. Kimiko pulls out her gun ready to fire at the swarm when Baragon snatches her gun and smashes it against the cavern wall. She was about to scorn him for that when the retreating swarm pushed them apart.
With the swarm gone, everyone turns their attention back to Gojira who has holes in his shirt, coat, and pants.
Kimiko walks up to the Gojirian, "Goji, are you alright?"
He grunts and tells her "I'm fine. Except, I think one of them took my glasses," then looks down at his feet. "And my boot," everyone else looks down to see that he is in fact missing the left boot.
Kimiko then turns her attention to Baragon. "Why did you break my gun?"
"That's why!" he points to some nearby pipes on the walls. "Those pipes are meant to help vent out the methane gas that builds up in the mines. However, the deeper you go the harder it becomes to vent," the earthen kaiju then tells her with a stern look. "All it takes is one spark to ignite the unvented gas."
Kimiko backs away, "Sorry," realizing exactly what she could have done.
"I-I told you that we…shouldn't have brought her…along." Manda wheezes. Everyone in the party is sweating and starting to breathe heavily. But Manda seems to be having a lot harder time and she is not even sweating. "Ha-having a human around…can only mean trouble," then she collapses into the ground.
"Ohmygosh!" Kimiko runs over to kneel next to her. "Is she alright?" she asks as Baragon comes over to them and places his hand on Mana's for head.
"She's dehydrated," he them as he picks up her canteen. "And she's out of water."
"I keep some bottled water in the car just for emergencies," Kimiko takes out a set of keys and hands them to Baragon. "Take my keys and get Manda out of here, the water's in the trunk."
Baragon first looks at her before accepting her generosity. "Thanks," then picks Manda up and starts back the way they came.
"I guess… some humans… aren't so bad… after all," Manda manages to say as they got out of range.
Kimiko turns to Gojira. "So, where to now?"
"We continue," he starts walking back down the tunnel with Kimiko following him.
After a few minutes of traveling, the two come across a large metal door. Gojira puts his arm in front of Kimiko signaling for her to stop and tells her. "This is the place."
"How can you tell?"
"I can smell them."
"Okay then," Kimiko walks to the door to try and open it but it would not budge. "No good. They must have locked it from the insides," she let go of the door handle. "Unless you have any ideas, we won't be getting in that way."
The Kaiju king just walked up to the door, pulled it off its hinges, and sat it down next to the doorway. "The door's open."
"Right. Super strength. How could I forget?" the agent asks no one in particular before following Gojira through the door.
It was not long before they started to see evidence of the Meganula. Walls covered in greenish slime, single claw marks, and some hollowed out cocoons. The further they went the more they found.
They then hear a buzzing noise. Following the direction of the sound, they eventually come into a large cavern, revealing hundreds of the Meganula. In the center of the clearing is a large cocoon different from the ones that were seen on their way here, this one still has something moving inside.
The cocoon cracks open and a woman breaks out wearing a purple dress with yellowish coloring, her arms have patches of exoskeleton armor, hair of similar coloring as her dress, a pair of insect-like wings, and red eyes. She stretches her arms and looks around at all the Meganula.
"Oh, it's so nice to see all my children," she coos before spotting Gojira and Kimiko. "It appears we have company," at that moment, the Meganula surrounds them. "What a surprise. Welcome to our humble home, Gojira," she steps towards them before turning the agent. "And you've brought some lunch," Gojira immediately puts himself between them.
"What are you doing here?" he glares at the queen.
"Why we live here of course," she gestures around them. "A nice cave to start a hive, plenty of room, plenty of food. Well, plenty of food until all the workers were fired," she stares back at Kimiko. "You won't believe how delicious those men were," she licks her lips.
Kimiko gasps. "You ate the workers?" the very thought of such a thing sends shivers down her spine.
"Well not all of them, after all what kind of mother would I be if I didn't make sure my babies get their protein?" the Queen walks around them, with Gojira not once letting her out of his sight.
"You won't get away with this," Gojira snarls.
"What's this? The King of Kaiju sticking up for the human. I never expected this, especially with what they tried to do in the past," she lifts her hands up with the back facing her soon to be prey. A stinger pops out of the back of her hand. "Now, if you don't mind. It's lunch time." and her wings start buzzing,
The Meganula lets out some small screeches of excitement as they move closer to their soon-to-be meals. Gojira has no idea what to do at this point, being surrounded by a swarm of six-foot hungry bug men, led by their crazy queen, and with Kimiko in this mess. He can hold them for a little while, but there is no escaping their fate.
That is when a loud boom travels through the mine, causing the earth to shake.
Megaguirus and the Meganula freeze in their place. The queen then whispers "Rodan!" knowing what such event must mean.
At that moment, a few of the Meganula are knocked down, Kimiko and Gojira felt something grab onto them, and are now heading out of the mine.
"STOP!"Gojira yells at the top of his lungs. Surely enough, their rescuer had stopped and sets them down.
"But we're halfway out of the mine?" Rodan tells him.
"I know but I have to make sure that they don't leave."
Kimiko looks upon Gojira with concern in his eyes, "How are you going to do that?"
"I don't know," he admits. "Rodan, I need you to get her out of here," he tells the flyer as he points at Kimiko.
"What? No, I'm not leaving you down here," she protests.
"You don't have a choice!" he snaps at her. "Now, Rodan!"
Before Kimiko knew it, she was grabbed and heading straight for the exit.
The atomic titan paces around trying to figure out what he can do to exterminate all these pests. He then remembers what his sensei told him. 'Sometimes to find the best solution to a stressful problem is that you need a calm mind.' Gojira sits on the floor, crossed legged, closes his eyes, and starts taking deep breaths. Then snaps his eyes open with a smile and looks at a nearby pipe on.
.oOo.
When Megaguirus and the swarm caught up to Gojira, they were confused to find him just sitting there in the open.
The queen tilts her head and asks, "What in the name of Terra are you doing?"
"Meditating." he answers, not bothering to look up. "It helps to calm people down so they can think better. It's how I'm going to beat you."
Megaguirus laughs and the Meganula releases a series of buzzes as if to join in on the laugh. "That sounds stupid."
"It's true," opening his eyes Gojira looks over at the broken pipes. "All I need now is one spark." Megaguirus saw the pipes and knew what he was talking about. The Kaiju King clenches his fists and say's "Sayonara." As soon as his hand opens and lets a small blue spark ignite all the built-up methane in the cave creating a massive explosion.
.oOo.
Back outside Manda is sitting on the hood of Kimiko's car drinking a well needed bottle of water with Baragon standing right beside her. They suddenly heard a loud boom.
Manda lets out a "Ugh!" knowing that it means Rodan must be on his way out of the mine.
The pterosaur zooms out, lands near them, and sets Kimiko down.
Baragon gets up and walks towards them. "Hey, where's Gojira?"
"He, he's still in the mines," Kimiko says frantically. "W-we have to go back and help him."
"Whoa there!" Baragon grabs her by the arm.
Rodan tries to reassure the human. "Don't worry about him. The G Man is unstoppable. I'm sure he'll be fine." At that moment, fire exploded out of the mines. "Though I have been wrong before."
"GOJI!" Kimiko screams. If Baragon was not already holding on to her, she would have ran into the flames. Tears started to run down the agent's face.
Still looking at the fire Kimiko sees a figure among the flames and as if by miracle the Kaiju King himself comes walking out, covered in burn marks and with his clothes burned away with his pants being the exception that are only charred. Seeing him, Kimiko did not hesitate to run towards him and give him a hug.
Gojira lets out an "AGH!" as her arms wrapped around him. The human immediately let go hearing this.
"Oh! I am so sorry, Goji."
"That's alright it only hurts everywhere," he flinches. "It will heal…eventually," the kaiju tells her as some burn marks already start fading. Gojira looked at Kimiko and saw water coming out of her eyes. "Are you alright, your face is leaking."
"Oh! Um, don't worry about that," she wipes the tears away. "We should probably get back to Mosura for debriefing," and then she gets into to the car.
