Kaiju Fighters Ch. 24

At the hospital everything seemed to be going normally until everyone heard a loud boom. Then someone with brown scaled wings bursts through the doors carrying a woman in his arms with blue hair and horns on her head.

"Somebody, help!" he shouts frantically. "My friend! She's hurt!" a man in a white coat walks up to them to examine the woman.

"The burn marks are similar to other patients we had," he says to himself. "Nurse, we need to get this woman into the emergency room stat!" a couple of people came in with a stretcher. Rodan placed Manda on the bed and was about to let the doctors take her.

"Rodan!" Manda reaches her hand out to take his hand. "It was one of us," she was breathing heavily. "He had… red eyes, his, his skin was oil, and… breathed smoke."

"Sir, we need to get her into the emergency room now," the doctor tells him. "She's in good hands trust me," Rodan let go of Manda's hands so they can take her through the doors.

"Poor girl," a woman wearing scrubs walks up to him carrying a clipboard and pen.

"What?"

"Your friend's not the first to come with those kinds of burns. And from what I just heard she might have inhaled some fumes as well."

"Is there anything you can tell me about the others?"

"The burns seem to be chemical based. And the toxic fumes spread from the lunges to the blood stream," she looks at the clipboard and her face turns grim. "I'm sorry, sir. I can get in trouble for this but none of the patience survived the night."

At those words, Rodan feels his blood boiling and he quickly flies out of the hospital doors.

Inside an office sits a fairly large man at desk in front of a vault. This guy is wearing a fine silk suit. He is currently counting money when someone bursts through the door.

"Well, well. If it isn't my favorite employee," he says seeing the oil covered man. "Hedorah."

"Sorry I'm late. I ran into someone," Hedorah tells the man.

"I've heard. My sources tell me that a poor girl turned up in the hospital with your signature," the man leans closer the kaiju. "Don't expect a bonus for someone you weren't supposed to kill," the man pulls out a small stack of cash made of Benjamin's to hand to his employee.

"I had too," Hedorah puts the money in his pocket. "She actually knew who I was and could ruin my business."

"In that case, how about some Cubans?" the man pulls out a small case of cigars. "Take one," he places one in his mouth and lights it up. Taking a deep breath, he removes the cigar and exhales the smoke.

Hedorah accepts one and lights it with a ray from his eyes, puts it in his mouth and takes a deep breath. Instead of exhaling, he swallows the smoke.

"You're still full of surprises, aren't you?"

"Yeah well, we still have a little problem," Hedorah looks into his boss' eyes. "That woman, she might have friends here."

"Is it something you can't handle?"

"No, but if they catch me then not only will I be out of business you will too," he gives the man a threatening smile.

"So, you want a raise?" the man smiles back. "That's what I like about you. Deal! And I'll throw in more cigars," he hands the whole case to Hedorah.

When Rodan arrived at the hotel he was told that his friend was in the casino. He walks up to one of the bartenders.

"Hey, excuse me. Have you by any chance seen a guy who's shorter than me with and I know this will sound weird. He'll have a horn and may have spi…" the bartender stops him right there and points over to a group of cheering humans. Rodan walks over to them and hears a familiar voice.

"I win again!" Anguirus shouts when the slot machine he was at lights up as bells rings.

"Anguirus, what's going on?"

"I have 'hic' no idea," his spikes had torn through his clothes, and he is holding a half empty glass. "I came here, 'hic' was offered a few 'hic' drinks, started playing at these machines, and the 'hic' next thing I knew people are cheering and calling me 'hic' a millionaire. Whatever that means," he then quickly downs what was left in his glass.

"How many of those did you have?" Rodan asks with disbelief.

"I don't know," he looks in his cup. "Hey! someone bring me another!" he shouts.

"Hey! Ang, we have a problem," Rodan tries talking to him. "Manda is in the hospital."

"Good for her."

"No, it's not good!" Rodan starts flaring his nostrils. "She was hurt and may be dying. And the only thing she could tell me was that it was an oily guy with red eyes that spits smoke."

"Hedorah!" the spiked kaiju hollers and raises his newly filled class with the crowd cheering.

"Hedorah?" the flyer raises a brow.

"Yeah 'hic'. Gojira fought him 'hic' before using 'hic' electricity somehow." He answers "Or at least his great, great, well, however man greats. One of his predecessors did anyway 'hic'."

"Well, we have to stop him before he harms anyone else."

"Sure 'hic'. You go on ahead, I told someone that I would meet them," Anguirus tells him and as Rodan was about to take off. "Hold on." He grabs him by the wing. "Do you know what a chapel is?"

"No," he shakes his head clueless to the question.

"Okay then" Anguirus lets the pterosaur go. "Bye!" and just before Rodan got out of earshot, he could hear more cheering and a thunderous shout. "I win again!"

.oOo.

Varan is backstage waiting for the show to start then he hears a loud boom. Knowing who it is he turns to see Rodan.

"Hey, Ro! This isn't a good time."

The pterosaur quickly tells him, "Manda's in the hospital and might be dying."

"What!" Varan stands there in shock. "How? Who?"

"I'm not sure. Anguirus said that it might be this Hedorah guy."

"Where is Anguirus anyway?"

"Uh, he's unavailable at the moment."

"What's wrong with him?"

"I have no idea," Rodan says with a puzzled look. "So, I'm going to need your help."

"Varan!" Andrew walks up to them. "You're on."

"Andrew, I'm sorry but I can't," Varan tells him.

"What do you mean you can't?"

"My sister is hurt. I have to go."

"Who cares if some girl got hurt?"

"I CARE!" Varan yells. "She's my sister," Varan gives Andrew a cold stare.

"Well, I don't. There are people out there, who paid a lot of money to see a freak perform a trick."

"In that case," Varan growls. "Why don't you go out there, freak?" then he and Rodan headed out the door.

"If you leave, I'll make sure you never work in this town again!" Andrew shouts with rage.

"That's okay." Rodan tells him. "He already has a job offer out of this town," then he slams the door.

.oOo.

"Were you serious about the job?" Varan asks as they walk through the streets.

"Well, yeah." Rodan answers. "It's kind of the reason we came here in the first place. That's if you want it."

"I don't think I have a choice now," Varan smiles before he saddens. "Where are we going?"

Rodan's face saddens as well, "To the alley where I found Manda."

"How, how is Mandy doing?" Varan hesitated. "How bad is she?"

"The doctors said," Rodan pauses. "They said that there were humans that came in before in similar conditions. Most of them died within the same day," he looks to him sympathy. "I'm sorry."

Down in the alley they went to, they spot where Manda was found. Searching, Varan finds footprints that appear to have been burnt into the ground.

"Ro, look at this," Varan calls him over.

"Manda had burns around her face and hands," Rodan begin to realize. "She also said that he was covered in oil. If this is the smog monster."

"Then maybe the oil was some sort of acid," Varan finishes his sentence. Following the footsteps, they find that trail stops in the middle of the alley.

Both kaiju catches a whiff of a fowl stench. They turn to see the man they were looking for holding a cigar in one hand. His eyes start glowing and then red lightning shoots out of them.

Reflexes take hold in the two kaiju. Varan jumps out of the way while Rodan dodges and flies towards the toxic kaiju. The flyer grabs ahold of him and pulls the fight out of the alley. Rodan drops him when he can no longer handle the pain in his hands. Rodan looks at them and sees that they are burning.

"So much for being hidden," Hedorah comments looking around at the humans staring at him. He throws his cigar away and he begins to rise off the ground. Before he could get away someone grabbed him by the ankle.

"I'm not letting you get away!" Varan is holding onto Hedorah's ankle. Looking at his face one can see that he is in pain.

Hedorah flies up high and starts twisting and turning to shake the triphibian loose. After Varan had no choice but to let go, he stretches out his arms to reveal his skin and glides back down to the ground.

The toxic man looks back down at the glider before taking off again. However, this time Rodan flies in front of him. Hedorah inhales and then exhales black smoke.

Rodan flaps his wings hard to deflect the smoke back at the toxic man. He smiles seeing that his opponent is getting a taste of his own medicine. Then he gets hit by red lightning and Hedorah soars out of the cloud and punches Rodan hard enough to where he goes flying a power line.

"Hey! Stink face!" Varan shouts from the top of a nearby building.

"You again. What's your deal?"

"My sister is in the hospital because of you."

"You mean the sea dragon," Hedorah smiles wickedly. "It was a shame. Her face was beautiful."

At that note Varan jumps off the building and glides towards the smog monster. Varan kicks him in the head causing him to fall to the ground. The glider lands not far from him.

When Hedorah stands back up with his eyes full of rage. He takes another deep breath, but instead of exhaling toxic smoke he spits out black sludge into Varan's eyes.

Varan's vision became blurry. He sees an outline of Hedorah coming at him. Before he knew it he felt Hedorah's hands wrapping around his neck. He screams in pain feeling the burning sensation.

"Your sister tried to scream when I caught her," the toxic man taunts. "She never stood a chance."

Just then, Hedorah lets him go and starts yelling out of pain himself. When he fell down Varan sees that Rodan is standing behind him holding a power line.

"That's for Manda," Rodan says before putting the power line down and walks over to Varan. "You okay?"

"It's hard to see, but I'll be fine," Varan rubs his eyes. "Let's go see how Mandy's doing."

"But first," Rodan pulls out his phone. "I should call pick up."
