Kaiju Fighters Ch. 37 Christmas Special Part 2

Every time Gojira has trouble, it always helps to drive to clear his head. For at least an hour, he went from one place to another. Stopping once in a while to get a refill of gas or just take a nap.

He passes a park when he suddenly hears a siren. "Oh, just great!" Gojira growls as he pulls over to the side of the road to park near a bench.

A police officer that parked right behind him gets out of his vehicle. When he gets to Gojira, the kaiju recalls what Kimiko, Mosura and the Elias said to do in this situation and asks, "Is there a problem, officer?"

"The problem is that you were going well over the speed limit," the officer tells him. "I'm going to need to see your license and registration."

"Can't do that officer."

"And why not, sir?"

"I don't have any."

"Well then," the officer sighs. "I'm sorry to say this, but I'm gonna have to take you in," and reaches for his handcuffs.

A new voice reaches their ears. "Isn't that a bit harsh, Officer?" both human and kaiju turn to see an old man with a white bear sitting at the bench. Gojira could have sworn the bench was empty a moment ago. "It is Christmas Eve." Gojira looks at the old man and notes what he is wearing. The old man is wearing a red business suite under a dark grey long coat, a black fedora on his head, and wire glasses resting on the bridge of his nose.

The officer was not sure, but something about this man just glowed, telling him it is the right thing to do. He sighs before responding, "Oh, alright," and then turns to Gojira. "I'll let you off with a warning. If I catch you again, there will be consequences," he warns. The officer gets back in his car, but not before saying, "And wear a helmet!"

"Oh, man," the man chuckles. "If only he knew that he was talking to the King of the Kaiju."

"Yeah," Gojira was about to take off when he realizes, "How did—"

"Know who you are?" the strange man finishes for him. "Take a seat," he gestures to the empty spot next to him. "We need to have a chat."

Gojira did not know why, but he feels that he can trust this stranger. "What do you want to know, old man?" he asks as while taking a seat on the bench.

The stranger hums, "Nothing! I already know a great deal about the Atomic Dinosaur."

"I don't remember that being mentioned in the news?"

"Oh, we don't really get tv up north where I live. Nor a newspaper. Now, that I think about it, there's no internet either."

"If you already know so much about me, then why do we need to talk?"

"We need to talk about your behavior towards Kimiko Miyagi and the star."

Gojra stands up, "How'd you know that!?"

"I know a lot of things," the old man looks into the kaiju's eyes. "Like, I know when you're sleeping, I know when you're awake. Or who's been naughty or nice. And you, Gojira, you have done many naughty things before coming to this world. But you've managed to stay off my list until tonight."

Gojira heads back to his bike. "I've had enough of this!"

"I don't think we're finished."

"Yes we are," he's already the back and reaving the engine. "And there's nothing you can say to change that."

The old man spoke only one word to prove the alpha kaiju wrong. "Asuza."

At that, Gojira stops the engine and takes his seat back next to the stranger. "What do you know about my mother?"

"I know that she and your father are the reason you keep your distance. Even from those you call friends."

"What do you want me to do?"

"I want you to know about Christmas."

"I already know about Christmas," Gojira insists. "The food, the decorations, I even know about the gifts."

The old man then lets out a strange laugh. There is no way for the kaiju to describe it; except, maybe jolly. "It always comes down to the presents on Christmas. You may know about all that stuff, Gojira. But do you know of the Spirit of Christmas?"

The kaiju just shrugs. "I don't know. Guess not."

"Christmas is about the giving of the heart. Showing kindness to others, even people you generally don't like. And it's the season of forgiveness and second chances. You see, for Kimiko when that star shattered, so did what makes Christmas, Christmas. It didn't help that someone she cares for refused to acknowledge that," the stranger sees that his words are sinking in then looks up at the sky. "Now would you look at that," he gestures towards a star shining brighter than any in the sky. "That there, my friend, is a true genuine Christmas Star. You know, Gojira, another thing about Christmas is that it's the one time when wishes can come true. If you make the right one that is," the man glances at the kaiju to see that he is gazing upon the star. "So, tell me. Does the King have a Christmas Wish?"

Gojira stares at the star. Pondering how he could have missed one that bright. The kaiju closes his eye. "I wish I could make it up to Kimiko somehow."

"Done!" the old man tells him as he reaches to the side and reveals a large red travel bag. "This should do it," and then he pulls out a box with a label 'to Kimiko Miyagi' and hands it over to the kaiju before pulling out another larger box with its label having Gojira's name on it. "And this one is for you. It's less than a gift and more of a necessity. Now, usually you're not supposed to open the gift until after midnight. But I'm sure the rules can be bent this one time."

The kaiju stares at the box before accepting it. Opening the gift, Gojira finds a black helmet with blue flames on it and a driver's license with a picture he is sure he never had taken. "Thank you," was all he could say.

"Don't thank me yet. You still need to give it to her."

"I'm not even sure where she is."

The old man lets loose another strange laugh. "That's an easy one for me. She's at her mother's diner, assisting in closing. If you hurry, you can make it before she leaves."

Gojira nods as he straps on his helmet and hops onto his bike. Just as he was about to leave, he turns to the old man "I didn't catch your name."

"Oh, I'm known by many names. But you can call me Kris."

"Well then, Kris, Merry Christmas!" and with that, he was off.

Kris replies, "Merry Christmas!"

The kaiju heard some bells jingling before turning to see Kris one last time. However, the man was nowhere in sight.

.oOo.

Kimiko is setting away some cookware in the kitchen as she hears the bell ringing, signaling someone entering the diner.

"We're closed!" her mother was heard shouting from the front. "Merry Christmas! Now, go away!"

Gojira's voice then reaches her ears. "Sorry, Mrs. Miyagi," the agent gently sets the plates down.

"Oh, Gojira? You are always welcome here. Even after hours," her mother invites him in. "You never did finish your ramen. I'll go fix some up."

"Actually, is Kimiko here?" he asks. "There's something I need to say."

Kimiko takes a deep breath before walking out from the back. "I got this, Mom," she walks around the counter and she and Gojira took a seat. Mrs. Miyagi then walks back into the kitchen.

Gojira was the first to speak after minutes of just sitting there. "I'm sorry about earlier."

"I'm the one who should be apologizing," the agent sighs. "I overreacted and should not have expected you to understand our traditions. We are just silly humans after all."

It was at that moment, Mrs. Miyagi walked in carrying two bowls of ramen. "One for my daughter and another for the dinosaur hero."

The kaiju jerks his head over to the agent. "You told her?" he asks as Mrs. Miyagi walks back into the kitchen.

Kimiko shrugs. "She's a mother. It's hard keeping those kind of secrets from her."

"I'm…" Gojira is stopped midsentence by the agent holding her hand up.

"Mom!" she shouts, "What I tell you about eavesdropping!?"

The elder woman shouts back. "I'm not eavesdropping!"

"Mom, away from the door!"

"I'm not at the door!"

"Mom!"

"Okay, okay."

After a couple of moments, Gojira turns back to Kimiko. "Again, I'm sorry for the star. I should have considered how much it meant to you," he tells her as he sets the box on the counter, "Can you ever forgive me?"

The agent eyes the box then glances at a clock to see it is not midnight again. "May I?" she looks up to Gojira who simply nods. She opens the box to see her Christmas Star looking brand new. The human starts getting teary eyed again.

"What's wrong?" Gojira stands back up. "You're crying again."

"They're not sad tears," she wipes them away. "They're happy tears," she looks up at him. "How'd you get this? The star was custom made and I can't imagine anyplace that could repair it being open this late."

He just shrugs. "I got it from a friend actually."

Kimiko hugs him. "Tell your friend thank you for me."

The Gojirasaur hugs her back, "I'll be sure to do that the next time we meet."

"Okay," she breaks away, "I'll forgive you. On one condition."

"That would be?"

The woman reaches behind the counter, "You have to wear this," and pulls out the same hat she was wearing earlier. "Until after Christmas."

Gojira groans, "Do I really have to?"

"Do you want my forgiveness?" she smirks.

"Fine! Whatever!" he snatches the hat from her grasp and sets it on his head. "There! Happy now?"

She giggles, "As a matter of fact, I am. Now! This star looks like it needs a tree," she stands up to head out. "Well? Come on!"

Gojira follows her outside and walks to the bike. The first thing he notices is that there are two helmets instead of one. The kaiju rushes ahead of Kimiko and sees that there is a note with the second helmet. Gojira picks it up and reads.

Nearly forgot about Kimiko riding with you.

Glad I found time to drop this off.

Merry Christmas!

The kaiju just smirks as he pockets the note, before putting his helmet on. Gojira gets on his bike followed by Kimiko.

"Hey, Goji," she snaps the buckle under the spare helmet. "Where'd you get the helmets?"

"They were gifts from my friend."
