Emiya Shirou was a little concerned at how gung-ho Red Winter Academy was with the frequency of their revolutions after he witnessed one for himself. It was a bizarre chain of events that led to Sensei helping Red Winter's Student Council President Cherino in retaking her position after she was ousted in a revolution led by Ikekura Marina in a bid to avoid getting punished after accidentally breaking one of the former's statues.

Apparently revolutions like these happen at least once a week. Some of them had serious reasons, but most of them were just plain ridiculous.

Seriously? Who leads a coup just to avoid cleaning duty? He shook his head at the absurdity of it when he found out why Marina rebelled. Thanks to the protection of their halos, the coups were reduced to that of a weekly school brawl, which while still concerning, was apparently very much in the spirit of Red Winter Academy's ideology of Freedom.

It was just one more absurdity that he had to get used to after he became the Sensei of SCHALE in the Academy city Kivotos over three weeks ago.

At least they seem to be having fun, he thought as he was doing a few final checks on the jeep he borrowed from Cherino, along with the supplies he asked for.

"Sensei, is everything to your liking?" Tomoe asked.

"Yes, everything seems to be in order," Sensei replied.

"President Cherino wanted to see you off too, but she is still resting from everything that happened."

"Yes, it's a little bit too much for someone her age," Sensei said with a chuckle.

"She's a third year student of Red Winter, you know?" Tomoe said with a smile.

"Is that so…? Well, not the first time I've made the same mistake." If Sensei had any doubt, he didn't show it on his face as he returned his smile to her. "Just make sure you don't coddle her so much, okay?"

"Don't worry, Sensei. Cherino truly is a kind child beneath her persona as a ruler," Tomoe said. "Still, I'll take your words into consideration."

After that, she handed him the keys to the jeep.

"Thanks for the help, Tomoe," Sensei said as he climbed into the driver's seat, with Tomoe handing him the keys to the car. "I'll return the jeep once I'm done with it."

"It's yours, Sensei. Treat it as thanks for helping me and President Cherino," Tomoe said. "Besides, Red Winter is a huge district so I'm sure having a vehicle to move around while you're here would allow you to save some time."

"Thank you then," Sensei replied. "Is there anything else before I go?"

"Nothing much," Tomoe said with a smile. "I just want you to spend some time with President Cherino should she ask for some of your time."

"I was already planning on doing so if she reaches out to me, but alright," Sensei said with a nod. "Tomoe…should you need something from me, don't hesitate to message me too."

"I will," Tomoe said. "Farewell for now, Sensei."

"Same here," Sensei nodded as he closed the jeep's door and started the engine, before he drove his way to the direction of the former Institute along with a bunch of supplies, including a set of construction tools and a few wires.

When he assisted Cherino in regaining her position, he came across two students that belonged to a club called Spec Ops. No. 227, composed of Amami Nodoka and Mayoi Shigure. They were currently living in the old Red Winter Institute's decrepit building.

While they had been sent there as punishment, he quickly noted their living conditions was far from acceptable and aimed to improve it as soon as possible, which was how he decided to improve their living conditions himself after asking for Cherino's permission.

"I didn't get to ask this last time but—" Sensei said as he hammered a nail through the plank that Shigure was holding in place on the wall. "—why exactly are you spying on me again?"

"I was not spying on you, but I was observing you, Sensei!" Nodoka said as she handed Shigure the next wooden plank. "I just want to appreciate the beauty around me, and that includes you!"

Not the strangest hobby I've heard, Sensei commented in his head as he, Shigure, and Nodoka finished up on the wall. Still, she tends to go overboard and invade privacy so I'll have to ask the Red Winter Office to put a closer eye on her just so she doesn't get into any more trouble.

They were currently in the middle renovating a hall of the former Institute into a proper dwelling for the two students.

"I really appreciate your help here, Sensei," Shigure said. "You think you can put a word out to Cherino and get us out of here?"

"Do you promise not to repeat what got you here in the first place?"

"Ehhhh? But how will I appreciate Sensei's beauty?" Nodoka said.

"You can always just visit me in SCHALE," Sensei suggested.

"But your handsome face glittering when reflected in the telescope's mirror is the best part! It really soothes my weary soul when I—Uh, I mean, forget I said anything just now!"

"You know what my answer is, then," Sensei said as he slowly shook his head. He turned his attention to Shigure, who smiled as she took a sip from her flask.

"Do you want to try it, Sensei?" she asked.

"Does it have alcohol in it?"

"It may have fermented a little, but it's fine~"

"I'll pass then."

They continued renovating the building for a while after that, making small talk here and there. Eventually, they reached the last section that needed to be worked on and was finishing up on nailing the final wooden plank.

"Ah, it seems we're out of nails," Nodoka said.

"And we only needed one more too," Shigure said. "Maybe we can scavenge one nearby."

"There's no need for that," Sensei said as he projected a metal nail on his hand.

"Wow! You really can use magic after all, Sensei!" Nodoka exclaimed in excitement.

"Whoa…" Shigure said in fascination. "And here I thought Nodoka was seeing things when she told me last time."

"I told you I wasn't lying, Shigure!"

"Maybe this is a drunken dream?"

"Young lady, we are going to be having words with your alcohol drinking after this," Sensei said as he lightly scolded her.

"Eeeeh…" Shigure complained before taking a sip out of her flask.

"You really didn't have to do this, Sensei, but thank you," Nodoka said as she looked around her. While much of the former Institute's building remained decrepit, the area they were in, which was the one that Nodoka and Shigure often used, actually looked decent now.

The end result of the renovation turned the hall into a large studio house complete with working electricity, a rudimentary kitchen and a bathroom. In the center was a square that had been hollowed out that served as a sunken hearth. It had a hook hanging directly above it, with the intent of hanging a cooking pot or a kettle.

"This architecture somehow reminds me of another school…Hyakkiyako maybe?" Nodoka commented.

"I'm surprised you even worked on the electrical wirings, Sensei," Shigure said as she pointed at the lights. "Not that I'm complaining."

"It's just one of the few things I picked up over time," Sensei said. "It helps that this place still has working electricity."

"It is the former institute, after all, so the existing wiring is built to last," Shigure said. "Well, we didn't have to worry about charging our phones even before now, but this does make things a lot easier on us."

Sensei did one final check to make sure everything was in proper order before he raised a question. "Speaking of which, where do you get your food? I did bring some supplies, but it might not be enough."

"We forage for berries in the forest, and we occasionally hunt an animal for its meat," Nodoka said. "We were actually in the middle of foraging before we received your message."

"My bad," Sensei apologized. "Do you have enough?"

"It should last the two of us until the day after if we stretch it out," Nodoka said.

"Sensei," Shigure said as she looked at her phone's screen, "you should probably stay the night. You'll encounter the storm on the way back."

"It can't be helped then," Sensei said. "In any case, it'll be a good opportunity to test whether this house will hold."

"Oh no! We won't have enough food!" Nodoka exclaimed in a panic before Sensei raised a hand to stop her.

"It's fine. There's still enough time to hunt," Sensei said as he made his way outside. "Nodoka, can you prepare a fire on the hearth?"

"Understood, Sensei!" Nodoka said as she started gathering wood.

Shigure, can you lead me to a good hunting ground?"

"Sure, I can do that," Shigure said as she glanced at his two Redhawks, then at her own grenade launcher. "But wouldn't Nodoka be better for this? Or are you planning to use magic instead?"

"More or less," Sensei said as he projected his bow and a quiver filled with arrows.

"Great shot, Sensei!" Shigure said as she saw Sensei's arrow land right at the bear's head. It moved a few steps before it fell to the ground motionless. "Still, you went for a headshot? We've been told that it's better to aim for the chest rather than the head in our wilderness survival class as it's more ethical that way."

"I was told the same thing back when I first went hunting, and I recommend you do so as it maximizes the chance for a clean hit for most people while minimizing the risk of suffering for the animal," Sensei said as he and Shigure approached the carcass before he knelt down to while holding a skinning knife.

"And yet you calmly went for the head." Shigure noted Sensei's expression when he took the shot. There was no hesitation at all, as if he knew that his shot wouldn't miss.

"I was told the same thing after my first hunt," Sensei said as he began skinning the bear. "I reasoned that if I was sure I could land the shot, then it would be better to aim for the head, as the animal wouldn't have to feel pain at all."

The implication wasn't lost on Shigure, who was impressed as she hummed.

"I did hear rumors that you can hit a target from a few kilometers away with a bow, but I didn't think it was true," Shigure said. "Then again, I also didn't believe that you can actually use magic. Guess this is the second time I've been proven wrong today."

"Kivotos is a large city after all. Who knows which rumors are true or not?"

"Speaking of which, is the sword in the Abydos Oasis also true?" Shigure asked.

"Yes, that one's true," Sensei said. "I've seen it for myself."

"Is that so…?" Shigure suspected that it was probably Sensei's doing, but she wasn't interested in digging deeper. "Well, I was just a little curious. Do you need some help—Oh, that's one sharp knife."

Sensei was already halfway done with the skinning process.

"I was going to offer to help, but you're also skilled at this so I think I'll just get in the way," Shigure said as started walking around. "Guess I'll look around and see if I find some berries."

When she saw a nearby shrub, she made her way to it, but stopped when she saw it rustle.

It was a cub.

And it was currently making its way to where Sensei and the bear carcass were as it cried.

"Oh," Shigure muttered with a pang of guilt in her heart.

Eventually, they got enough bear meat that would last for a few weeks and made their way back to the Institute grounds, with Sensei carrying a large bag that contained all the meat and Shigure carrying a second bag that had the bear's skin, as well as its bones.

"Ah, you're back!" Nodoka greeted them before she turned her attention further in the back. "Why is there a cub following you?"

"It's…" Shigure looked away.

"It's the cub of the bear we hunted," Sensei said. "We brought it with us as reparation for hunting its mother."

"Oh, I see," Nodoka said as she approached the bear slowly before taking out a few berries from her pocket and placed it on the snow in front of the bear. The bear cautiously sniffed it before it started eating the berries. "Guess we'll be needing more fruits for you huh, little guy?"

Shigure glanced at the scene before she and Sensei lowered their bags.

"Shigure." Shigure heard Sensei call out her name.

"Yes, Sensei?"

"Let's dig a grave for the bear once the weather clears up," Sensei said.

Shigure nodded with a soft smile.

Author's Note: Ahhhh Red Winter. I have been wanting to do a chapter to cover the school for quite some time now. All things considered, aside from its frequent revolutions it's honestly a pretty stable school as far as chaotic schools go. With that said, while they were sent to the Former Institute for a good reason, Spec Ops No. 227 does deserve better living conditions, so Sensei in this fic goes back to do something about it.

It's almost hilarious just how well-rounded Shirou's skills are when you ignore his Magecraft. While his cooking skill is his most well-known, he's also a decent repairman and knows his way around technology among other things. If it wasn't for his incredibly low self-worth stemming from his past he would be an incredible husband material and makes for one hell of a butler. And this was him during his teenage years.

As for Nodoka and Shigure hunting, while I don't recall it being explicitly stated in the game, it's the logical conclusion that comes when you live in an isolated location rich with animals. At the very least, it wouldn't be strange for Red Winter students to have some training to hunt for their own food.

With that said, I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
