Author's note: Well, it's been a while since I've posted of FFN, Hi everyone! Going to keep this note short. This story is cross posted from my ao3 account, so its not stolen. It gets better as it goes, I promise. I'm posting the first few chapters on here to see how everyone reacts to it. If you like it please leave a review and let me know!
This was supposed to be a day of celebration, Shota thought as the dust settled around him. The sounds of the fight raging around him dying down as the Meta Liberation Army realized that they had lost. His class, after many hardships, had finally graduated. They were actual heroes now, they had the license to prove it. Being a hero meant being prepared for the worst, so when the Meta Liberation Army crashed the graduation ceremony they were ready. The pros rushed in while the new heroes changed right there on the battlefield, wasting no time getting into the fights now raging across campus.
Shota had kept track of all the students during the fight, a fight that raged for hours. As the dust and flames settled around them the first stars were appearing in the sky. He heard the groans of his fellow heroes around him, heard them calling out to each other.
Everything a blur in one eye as his vision went in and out. Then he heard the screaming, screaming he wished he could forget, screaming that would haunt him for years. It was coming from where Midoriya ran off towards recently. He ran, stumbling the entire way.
As Shota got closer he could make out the screams. He heard Uraraka yelling for a medic, but he knew Recovery Girl was across campus. She wouldn't reach them any time soon. Todoroki was kneeling on the ground, Midoriya supported in his arms. Bakugo was kneeling in front of them, yelling at Midoriya to shut up.
Nothing new, Shota thought as he got closer, Midoriya probably just nearly died again. When he was standing next to them he realized how wrong he was. Midoriya didn't nearly die, he was dying. Dying right in front of him and he couldn't do anything. He was bruised, broken, and bleeding, but through it all he was smiling. I must be hallucinating, I've been hit in the head enough today.
"Se-sensei," Midoriya coughed, and Shota's heart dropped at the trickle of blood that came from his mouth. Two heads snapped over to look at him, and he saw hope flicker in their gazes. Todoroki's gaze stayed on the young man he was holding. "I wa-wasn't fast en-enough." He moved his hand and Shota saw it; a small spot on the left side of his abdomen was starting to decay, slowly spreading. "SHUT UP YOU DAMN NERD!" Bakugo yelled, his voice hoarse and it trembled slightly.
"AWAZIA-SENSEI IS HERE, ITS GOING TO BE OKAY, YOU HEAR ME YOU DAMN NERD!"
"Ka-kacchan," he coughed, more blood trickling out as he spoke. His hand not gripped by Todoroki reaching up towards his hair. He heard a sob and is gaze snapped to Uraraka, who covered her mouth in an attempt to quiet her sob.
Shota gave her a small shake of his head. He heard movement and saw several of his students drawn nearer from the screams. Yaoyorozu, covered in bandages and blood, was being supported by Mina and Kirishima while Iida and Shinso were ready to rush in. When Shota held up a hand they paused, he saw the shock and disbelief at the scene in front of them.
Midoriya had told his classmates about how his quirk passes on, so that if things go wrong One for All will continue. Those standing here knew what was coming, they just weren't ready for it. Shota saw the tears, felt his own, as Midoriya held out a trembling hand, a single hair in his grip. Holding it out to his oldest friend.
"NO!" Bakugo's voice was barely more than a whisper at this point. "You can't die!" His hand wrapped around the trembling arm, keeping it steady. "We're supposed to be at the top! We promised to change how the world looks at heroes! We can't do that if you aren't there to lead us!"
"I s-sorry Kacchan. P-please, -cough- take thi-" Shota watched in disbelief as his student, his Problem Child, turned to dust before his eyes. One for All leaving with him.
He knew this scene would haunt his nightmares for years. The anguished yells from both Bakugo and Todoroki. The sobs from Uraraka, telling herself that it's a dream and to wake up. The shouts of disbelief from his students behind him. He knew he would never be able to look at a picture of Midoriya again. He was forever smiling, up until the very end.
3 WEEKS AFTER MIDORIYA'S DEATH
The list of name stared up at Shota from the screen in front of him. Oh how he wished he could burn it. It was the final count of deceased and casualties from the final fight against the Meta Liberation Army. So many pro and minor heroes lost their lives, so many more injured.
Uraraka and Yaoyorozu both had extensive scarring after Recovery Girl treated them. Uraraka had a handprint burned into her jawline while Yaoyorozu had cuts along her torso. Shinso now had a scar similar to his own under his eye. Kendo from Class B lost her right foot while Jiro had lost her left arm from the elbow down. Bakugo had minor hearing loss in both ears. Most of the other students had little to no injury.
Shota knew little of the other pro's injuries due to his own injury, he now had partial blindness in his right eye. The only other injury he knew about was Hawks losing his wings, which was a devastating blow to the pro.
The deceased list he couldn't get past the first name, Izuku Midoriya.
He couldn't understand why his name was first, maybe because he was the only student to die. All he knew was that he wanted to yell at, and possibly maim, whoever thought it was a good idea to put his name first.
There was knocking on his door and he looked up and let out a sigh, "Hizashi."
"Shota, the students are arriving. Are you ready for this?" The blond asked, his usual cheerfulness subdued.
"Let's get this over with." Shota grumbled as he shut his computer, but the other hadn't missed what he was looking at, the name on the screen. Izuku Midoriya would forever haunt the halls of UA.
It had started as an idea when the dorms were built, started by that year's graduating class. As each class kept the same dorm building their entire time at UA it was easy enough to keep up.
An entire wall in the common area was covered in pictures of the students time at school. It was up to the next class moving into the dorms after them to put them in a scrapbook. As homeroom teacher, he was supposed to sit with the incoming class and explain the picture. If he even knew why it was there and why it should go in the scrapbook. A scrapbook that Shota had such a tight grip on that his knuckles were white. Twenty students were gathered in front of him, all staring at the pictures of Class A behind him in awe.
"Listen up!" Shota called out and the whispering stopped. "Your first task before classes begin tomorrow is to put all of these," he gestured to the pictures behind him, "in here," He held up the scrapbook, and grimaced at the obviously All Might themed exterior. Who picked this out… Oh… Izuku Midoriya… "You've all got some big shoes to fill."
