Welcome to the second chapter of Harry Potter And The Reset Curse.
Enjoy.
Why. How.
It's been an entire month since he came back. One month since his world was turned upside down once again, the first time being his introduction to the Wizarding World.
He could still remember his two months at Hogwarts. He could still do the spell that he learned. At first, he thought that he saw a vision of the future. He did ask if it was possible to a prefect and that prefect told him that some wizards do have vision. In some cases, people could even do prophecy. Like actual one.
But Harry knew. He knew that it was more than just a brief glimpse of the future. He did live it. He had lived his first and second months at Hogwarts.
Yet, somehow, he was back. Of course, at first he was thrilled about it. He got to actually answer Professor Snape's question. He could still remember the look he gave him. Of course, he also lost 30 points because,
"Thought you could cheat without me realizing it? Answer me, Potter!"
Harry didn't even try to justify himself, and he just smiled at him, enraging the Potion's teacher even more. In the end of the day, professor Snape's remarks were more... productive.
As for the other classes, everything went the same. The only difference was that Harry knew some answers that he didn't know before, and how to do almost everything.
He even earned more points than before; could you believe it ? For quite a while Harry didn't cared about what happened before he came back. At least he didn't try to think about it. The first thing he did was to try his best to make Hermione comfortable enough with him, especially after that night.
He didn't know how he was back nor why, but he was alright with it. Maybe his magic gave him another gift ? Maybe it was a Wizard thing?
In any case, Harry was glad to be back. Since he came back, he tried his very best to make everyone happy. After all, if everyone is happy, then there's no bullying issue, right? In Harry's mind, that was the solution.
Despite everything, one thing was bugging him.
'What was that green thing anyway?'
You see, that was the only question he absolutely wanted an answer to. After all, it was that thing that brought him back. Now that it was October 1st, He was actually thinking about it more often than during his first month. Was it a danger ? Maybe it was just a poor girl covered in a green glue thing? After all, it was the Girl's bathroom. Maybe the explosion was part of some prank, and he was just the poor guy that was at the wrong place at the wrong moment? It was probably what happened... Right?
He tried to rationalize it as he went to the Quidditch field. Today was a day of training. Just like in the first time, Harry made it to the team. He became Gryffindor's seeker once more !
"There you are, Potter." As he looked up, Harry's eyes met Olivier's eyes. "Care to tell why you are late ?"
"I..." Harry could feel himself starting to sweat… "I thought I should bring water... Y'know, for after all the training?" He says as he places his bag on the field and opens it, revealing a couple of dozen bottles of water.
Olivier looked at him sternly for a moment before nodding in approval. "Good. It's good that you think about the team, it helps to improve our teamwork. Now, go change yourself! You still got 30 minutes to catch up with!"
"Yes, captain !" Harry quickly left his side.
As soon as he was ready, he went flying to greet everyone.
"Here he is!" One of the twins says as he spots him. Fred... George? Harry couldn't tell them apart.
"Our savior." The other twin continued.
"Oh, shut it, boys." One of the girls says. Angelina flew past them and looked at him. "Hey Harry. Thanks for what you brought." She then looked at the twins with a teasing glare. "At least one of you thinks about the rest of us."
The twins looked comically hurt by that comment, "Oi! If you wanted water…"
"You could've asked!" Harry was silently laughing. One thing that he liked about this team was how familial it feels. Everyone was joking with each other..
"Alright, warming's done." Olivier says as he gets to them. "Time to work, now!" Everyone nodded at him. Before Harry could even leave, Woods flew and stopped In front of him.
"Warming's not done for you. I don't want any risk of you getting injured. Go make a few laps around the field." Harry groans as he slowly makes his way down.
'I knew it was too good to be true…'
"What's your problem with me?" Harry turns around as he hears that question.
"Would you care sharing with me what I have done to you?" He could only look at Hermione in confusion as she crossed her arms at him.
"What do you mean?" Apparently it wasn't the right thing to say, as she starts to look at him more intensely.
"I can clearly see that you don't act normal around me." She says as she got closer to him. "You're always acting differently with others. When you talk to me, it's almost as if you're careful about what you say."
Looking back at the last month, he was indeed careful with what he said to her. Maybe it was unconsciously after what happened in the bathroom (Not that he knew exactly what happened at the end), but he did walk on eggs with her.
"I... No...? I mean, yes! Yes, but no! It-" He sighs as he runs his hands through his hair. "Look, you didn't do anything wrong. It's just me being, well, me. I'm sorry if you felt that I didn't like you or something."
"So what you're saying is..." She paused herself for a moment as she took a step back. "You are acting differently towards me. Yet, you don't know why?" The way Hermione looked at him made him feel bad. "You could've just said you didn't want to be friends instead of just saying... Whatever nonsense you're saying." As soon as she finishes speaking, she turns around and leaves.
"Hermione, wait!" Harry sighed as he looked at her leaving. Of course, he somehow screwed things up. It actually made him think about the way he's been acting since coming back.
Of course, there is Hermione's case. Harry did try to act as normal as possible with her, but every time it always ends up with him remembering what happened. He knew something happened with that green thing that made him go back, but since he didn't know what happened exactly, it scared him. He remembered seeing red at some point, probably blood. His senses were going off, and then... Nothing. He couldn't have died, right? He only fell asleep and simply woke up in September... Right?
Anyway, then there was Ron. Somehow Ron was less... well, Ron. It was almost as if the redhead was a completely different person. Ron was still smiling joyfully. He was still a massive Quidditch fan. He still beat everyone at chess, but... He seemed to be more... Arrogant.
When Harry thought back about how Ron acted the previous time, he quickly realized the difference. Where Ron was more sneaky about his remark on some person. Now he was not even trying to hide it. Maybe it was because their group of friends was bigger? Maybe he had a somewhat boost of ego ? In any case he was different and Harry wasn't sure if he preferred that Ron or the previous one.
He was bored. As the second month of the term was passing, Harry's boredom was growing. Not because he didn't have a thing to do, mind you. No, the reason was simpler than that. Since he was slowly reaching Halloween, that means that every class was easier. After all, it was the last ones he had in his... Vision?... Memories? Anyway, you get the picture.
Because of that, Harry started to observe his surroundings with more attention. No, he did not stare at the other students. He simply stared at... Their wand when they were doing magic. Magic was fascinating to him. He actually liked to watch the older students doing some advanced magic (Well, for him, it was advanced magic). He even managed to actually do one of the spells he saw! Well, it's not that amazing since the only spell he learned was Reparifarge which basically does nothing except fix incomplete transfiguration...
"Well, if it isn't Potter!" Harry rolls his eyes as he looks at the one talking to him. "What do you want, Malfoy?" He asks as the Slytherin boy smirks at him.
"Nothing, for now. Where's the weasel?" At his sides, Crabbe and Goyle laughed as if Draco just told them the funniest thing ever. Honestly, do those two even have one brain cell ?
"Why do you want to know?" Harry asked as the blonde In front of him shrugs. "I actually don't care. I just thought he was your shadow. I guess a Weasley even fails to be a mere shadow. They're really pathetic." Harry gritted his teeth as the Slytherin continued.
"And don't get me started with that Squib you became "friend" with. Honestly your whole circle of friends is... Pathetic." At his sides the two others, Slytherin nods, not even caring to talk at all.
"Take that back!" Harry finally says as his hands slowly curled Into a fist. "Don't you dare say a thing about Ron or Neville!" Draco simply smiled as if he had what he wanted.
"Sure. If you accept my duel, Potter." Harry rose an eyebrow at this. "Duel?" As far as he knew, the only duel that existed was the one in the old time. "Silly me. I forgot how... uneducated you are. A duel is a way for wizards or witches to... agree on something. Of course, the winner is the one setting the agreement."
'So basically a medieval duel but with magic...'
"In our case... If you win, I'll take back what I said, I'll even do you a favor and do it in public." Harry thought about it before nodding in agreement. "Very well. I'll see you at midnight in the trophy room." As soon as he finished speaking, Draco and his goons were gone.
Harry waited patiently in the dorm that night before sneaking his way out of the tower. He didn't even warn anyone; after all, it was between him and Malfoy.
Harry had to literally stop himself when he heard a sound. Turning around, he saw a cat in the corridor. Filch's cat. He quickly hid behind a statue. Thankfully, the cat passed by, and Harry sighed as he continued his way to the trophy room.
After a few moments, he eventually reached the room and entered in. The room was filled with a lot of stuff. Medals, cup... He shook his head as he decided to wait for his opponent to come.
One minute passed... Then two... Three... Thirty... One hour later, Harry came to the conclusion the other boy would simply not come. Either Malfoy was a coward, or something else was up.
Not wanting to lose another single minute here, Harry stood up from the wall he was resting on and left the room. Unfortunately, as soon as he left the room...
"Well, well, well." That was a voice, Harry never truly heard before, but he knew who that rough voice belonged to. "What do we have here."
He looked up to see the face of the caretaker of Hogwarts, Argus Filch. "I-" Harry couldn't even start to answer as the old caretaker literally grabbed his ears.
"Not a word! A student wandering the school past the curfew means trouble! I don't know what you were doing inside, but trust me, I'll know it." Filch says as he walks while pulling Harry's ear. "Too bad for you; I found you."
Harry couldn't even say a thing as he was dragged by the caretaker. Every time he tried to talk, the older man simply pulled his ear harder, muttering things like, "If only the dungeon were available for detention..."
Eventually they reached a door. Harry gulps as he recognized the door he was standing in front of. Filch starts to knock on the door with no break. The door eventually opens up to reveal Minerva McGonagall in her nightdress.
"What is it, Argus." Professor McGonagall says before seeing Harry at his sides. "Mr. Potter?"
Filch pulled Harry's ear one last time before putting him in front of his head house. "I found this student wandering in the trophy room past the curfew, Professor. He was leaving the room as I caught him." The caretaker says as McGonagall looks at Harry with a dead stare.
"I see. You may leave now, Argus. I'll have a word with him." Filch seemed proud of himself, and he was actually smiling. "Come in, Mr. Potter." She says as the caretaker leaves. As he entered the room, Harry could feel himself becoming more nervous.
"Sit." As his professor commanded, Harry sat on the chair that he was pointed to. "Care to tell me why you were out of your bed." He says nothing, as he seemed to prefer to look at his hands. "You don't want to tell me? Fine. If you want to stay silent, then fifty points from Gryffindor and detention with me in two days."
Harry could only nod as she was talking. The reason he didn't want to talk was that even if he told her about Malloy's duel... Well, either she didn't believe him or he would get even more punished than that.
"I should've known you would be a little bit more similar to James than just the looks..." It was actually the first time anyone other than Hagrid talked about his parents. McGonagall seemed to notice it as she looked less menacing than before. "Yes, your father was a real troublemaker with his friends. Merlin's know how many times I caught him on the spot of making pranks." Harry smiles a little at that. His father was a troublemaker... Huh.
"In any case. I'll escort you to the Gryffindor's common room." Harry nodded as he was escorted back to his dorm.
After he got back to his dorm, Harry lay down on his bed. Despite everything that happened tonight, he was happy. He actually learned something about one of his parents.
'So Dad was a pranker huh...'
The next day, Harry received a lot of glare from the other Gryffindor student. At this point of the year (Which was only the second month), fifty points meant they were more close to 0 than anyone else.
"Would you look at that?" Fred or George says as the two get closer to him.
"Fred, I think Harrikins here wanted to have some fun yesterday." George, apparently, says.
"It seems he was caught, oh my." Fred shakes his head as he tsk the first year.
"I think we should... Help him." His twin says as he smiles at Harry. At his side, his brother nods. "Ah, of course! We need to pass down our knowledge after all."
Harry looked at them confusingly. The twins simply looked at him with a twinkle of mischief in their eyes. "What do you say?"
"Do you want to learn…"
"our amazing..."
"incredible..."
"skills ?" They finished together. Harry could not help but laugh at them. "Why would-" He was actually going to ask them why they were asking him to join them, however, he stopped himself as he thought about last night.
'Wait a minute... Maybe they can teach me some useful stuff... And maybe... I can connect with my dad even more !'
With that last thought, Harry quickly nodded at them. If possible, the twin's smile was growing further. "Wonderful ! Then we accept you..."
"As our one and only..."
"Apprentice !"
Harry could only smile at them. "Why me though?" He couldn't stop himself from asking this, even if he did seconds ago. After all, they weren't really close or even talk at all.
"Why not ?" One of them answered. "It's not that common for a first year to be out during curfew, y'know."
"Let's say, we see..."
"Potential in you."
After that, they went back to their breakfast. Surprisingly, Malfoy didn't come see him, nor did he taunt him afterward. However, Harry knew. He knew from his smirks that Malfoy was mocking him. There may not have been any duel, but he fell into his stupid trap.
As the day went on, Harry remembered something.
'Today's Halloween!'
Surprisingly, everything turns out great. At least that was what Harry thought.
"Stop, stop. You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides, you're saying it wr-"
That, Harry remembered. However, from what he could remember, Ron wasn't as friendly as he was, so maybe Hermione won't... Leave for the day.
He couldn't understand if it was a vision of the future or something like that, but he knew that it was real. Everything he could remember had happened, apart from Malloy's duel, that is.
"Wonderful ! Everyone, look at Miss Granger's feather! Five points to Gryffindor!"
Eventually, the class ended a few couple of minutes later. Harry was actually getting his book when he heard Ron talking to the others.
"Honestly, it's no wonder that girl has trouble making friends ! It's Win-Gar-Dium Leviosa. Bloody Nightmare." Harry looked at him as he finished gathering his books. Ron was actually smirking when Hermione passed them with teary eyes. Compared to the other time, neither Ron nor his surroundings were showing regret.
"Are you happy?!" Harry says with anger as he pushes Ron to the near wall. Ron actually stared at him in confusion. "All she did was help you! Care to tell me how you repay her? Oh, that's right, talking behind her back!"
In all honesty, Harry didn't know why he was that angry. Maybe it was because, unlike last time, Ron was actually acting Dudley.
"So what? A little talk can't be all that bad! If she wasn't acting superior all the time, maybe people would treat her nicer." Ron yelled back at him. Behind him, people were actually whispering in agreement.
"Are you being serious right now?" Harry asked with widened eyes. "Just because you think it's not that bad, then it is? Maybe she isn't acting superior like you say, but rather it's just how she is ?!"
Ron shrugged as he slowly let him go. The first year group that were behind them were actually waiting, almost as if they were expecting something else.
"Well, maybe you don't care…" Harry says as he stares at the red head. "But I'm not letting someone feel miserable." With that said, Harry goes looking for Hermione.
"Bloody mental…" Ron muttered as he went back with the rest of the group.
The first stop for Harry was the bathroom, where he found her last time (or would find her later?). Much to his surprise, Hermione wasn't there.
'Either it's not here or... She's somewhere else.'
Harry, without knowing, actually searched the exact same location as last time. However, this time, he actually showed up for the next classes in the hope that she would be there. Unfortunately, she hasn't shown up once. During classes, Harry could feel Ron staring at him or even some first year just looking at him for no reason.
As soon as the last class was over, Harry rushed to the bathroom. It was, after all, around this time of the day that Harry found her last time. Before even opening the door, Harry knew she was in there. He could hear the sniffles coming out of the place.
He slowly opened the door and took a step in. He didn't know if he was happy or not that she was there. Happy because he found her, but actually sad she was in there.
"Hermione ?" He asked slowly as Hermione immediately stopped to sob, at least not as loudly as before. "You're in there ? It's me, Harry."
"Go away!" Came her response. He could honestly hear the suffering in her voice. "You're just like them ! Just... Go, so you can laugh at me like you want to !"
"What ? No ! Hermione, I came because I wanted to apologize for not stopping him before he could say anything! I swear!"
"You're just saying this so you can humiliate me more !" Harry actually took a step back at that. What ? "You're expecting me to believe you when you've been more than suspicious since the first day ?" He winced at that.
"Hermione, I... I was just... Confused about something. I swear it had nothing to do with you." He says it as softly as he could. A few minutes passed in complete silence before the door he's been staring at slowly opened up.
"You promise... You're not here to mock me?" Harry hated how vulnerable her voice was. "Yes, I swear I'm not here to hurt you or mock or-" Before he could even finish his sentence, he was tackled down by a brown missile. He quickly embraces her as he tries to not fall. Despite it, they both fall to the ground, with Hermione on top of him.
"Y-Y-You're the on-only one that cares..." She sobbed as he slowly comforted her. In the position they were in, Harry could smell a vanilla scent that was actually coming from her. "there... there..." In all honesty, Harry didn't know what to do. He never truly comforted her last time, so this was technically his first time trying to.
As they stayed in this position a little bit longer, a familiar, unpleasant smell was spreading in the room.
'Not this again...' Harry thought, as he could recall the smell from last time. Eventually, after a few minutes, the crying stopped. Harry looked at her with a small smile as he pulled her up and locked his hand with hers.
The bathroom door creaked on its hinges as Harry pushed it open, his hand still clasped tightly around Hermione 's trembling fingers. Her face was pale, streaked with tears, her lower lip bitten raw in an attempt to keep from sobbing.
"I'll escort you back to the common room." Harry said softly.
Hermione sniffled, managing a small, grateful nod.
Just as they stepped into the corridor, the smell got even more present.
Thud… thud… thud.
Harry's grip tightened as a hulking shadow moved at the far end of the hall. The creature was enormous, its head nearly scraping the ceiling. A troll. Its beady eyes gleamed with dull malevolence as it sniffed the air.
"Harry-"
"Back inside!" he whispered harshly, dragging her into the bathroom.
They bolted the door behind them.
"What do we do?" Hermione's voice trembled with panic.
"I don't know," Harry admitted, his own heart hammering. "Maybe it'll go away…"
The door shuddered violently as the troll's club slammed against it. The hinges groaned, and cracks spiderwebbed through the wood.
"It's not going away!" Hermione shrieked.
The door exploded inward with a final, deafening crash, and the troll barreled into the room, its club dragging behind it.
Harry yanked Hermione toward the sinks, his mind racing.
'Think! Think!'
The troll roared, its yellowed teeth bared as it lumbered toward them. It swung its club wildly, the massive weapon smashing through porcelain sinks as if they were made of paper.
"Get down!" Harry shouted, shoving Hermione to the floor.
The club whistled through the air above them, crashing into the wall with a force that shook the entire room.
Harry scrambled to his feet, grabbing a shard of broken wood. "Leave us alone!" he screamed, slashing wildly. The makeshift weapon glanced off the troll's arm, barely leaving a scratch.
The troll grunted in annoyance.
Harry turned, his eyes locking with Hermione's terrified gaze. She was trying to crawl away, her hands slipping on the wet floor.
"Hermione, run!"
But the troll was faster. It swung its club again, the blow aimed directly at her.
"HERMIONE!"
There was a sickening crack.
Her body crumpled like a rag doll, her eyes wide and unseeing. Blood pooled beneath her head, dark and spreading.
Time seemed to stop.
Harry's breath caught in his throat. "No… no…"
He crawled to her side, his trembling hands reaching out to touch her face. "Hermione… wake up… please…"
The troll loomed over them, its heavy breathing filling the silence.
Harry looked up, rage and despair warring in his heart. He grabbed his wand with shaking fingers, pointing it directly at the troll.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" he screamed.
The club quivered in the troll's grasp — for a moment, it lifted, suspended in the air.
But Harry's strength faltered.
The club crashed down.
Pain erupted through his body, and his vision blurred. His last thought, as darkness claimed him, was of Hermione's still, lifeless form beside him.
"-Ry? Harry?" Who was calling him? His vision was actually more blurred than usual, and he could barely hear a thing. "Yo. ..ight ...re, mate?" As his vision was slowly coming back, Harry looked at the… Redhead person In front of him?
"Ron?" Harry says, confusingly, as his hearing was also coming back. "You alright? If you didn't want to play chess, then you should've said so, y'know." Ron pouted as he looked at him.
"What..." was Harry's only answer.
'What... Just happened? I...died?' Harry thought, as this time he could remember vividly his last moment. I... I... I died.' Harry slowly turned his head and saw Hermione in the same position as the first time.
'Everything's the same as before... I... Then that means... Last time I died. I died... I died... I died... I died... I di-' At this point, Harry was hyperventilating as he stood up. He caught Ron's concerned look as he started to walk away.
"Harry?" Ron asked softly. Slowly he turned around, and before he could even say a thing, Harry's vision became dark again.
'I died.'
Harry fainted.
Hiya. Hope you enjoyed it.
Actually surprised someone reviewed it or that people put this story in fav or followed it. I'm actually happy and... Proud ?
Thanks for supporting this story. It actually means a lot to me.
So yeah, Harry died and came back? If I'm being honest I was reading the LN of Re:Zero and I was like "Hey, what if Harry had Subaru power?" and before I knew it several scenes popped in my mind. In case someone's worried about it, no Harry doesn't exactly have the same power as him. Or at least it's not given by someone nor would it be called RbD 'cuz that would be such a lazy move. I do have an explanation for Harry's case.
I'm also trying different types of writing. It's actually why certain scenes seems so different when you compare them to each other. Right now I'm just trying stuff, I guess?
Anyway enough of me.
Thank y'all and see you in two weeks ;)
