It was a sunny day in the Inkwell Isles when Gwen finishes cleaning up the cottage. The cups want to play outside and invite Gwen to join them. The trio head outside to play in the yard. Cuphead and Mugman grab the garden hose, turn it on and chase Gwen around trying to squirt her.
"Guys! Don't get me wet!" Gwen yelled.
But it was too late when they finally squirt Gwen, making her soaking wet.
"Gotcha!" Both cups called.
Gwen sighed and used the ink pen to magically dry herself off.
"I guess I'm it now." Gwen said.
"That's right Gweny!" Cuphead said as he handed Gwen the hose.
The cups laugh and run away. Gwen thought for a moment and got an idea. Gwen started to run after the cups with the hose, but they were too fast for her. Gwen runs out of breath and says,
"Oh, you guys are too fast for me. I guess you win."
Gwen prepares to put the hose away until the cups come up to her.
"Aw, come on Gwen. You're not even trying hard…" Cuphead was about to say when suddenly…
SPLASH!
Gwen squirted both cups, falling for her trick.
"Gotcha!" Gwen said tauntingly.
The cups stood there soaking wet, unamused.
"No fair!" Mugman argued.
"Yeah! Let's play something else." Cuphead agreed.
"Okay, what do you guys wanna do now?" Gwen asked as she magically dried off her friends.
"I know, let's go climb that really tall oak tree!" Cuphead suggested.
Mugman and Gwen look over in the forest and noticed the tall oak tree with large branches.
"I dunno Cuphead. It looks very high." Mugman said, concerned.
But Cuphead already started running towards the oak tree and yelled,
"Last one up to the top is a rotten egg!"
"Cuphead!" Gwen yelled.
She and Mugman both ran after Cuphead as he already had started climbing up the branches to the top. Gwen and Mugman climb up after him.
"Oh my, I haven't done this in forever since Rose and I were kids. Rose has a fear of heights and could barely get a few feet off the ground." Gwen said, remembering a memory.
"I know how she feels." Mugman said, sharing his fear too.
They both climbed after Cuphead until they finally reached the top of the oak tree.
"There you two are! We did it! We made it to the top!" Cuphead said excitedly.
Gwen looked at the view of the of the forest and was awed.
"Okay, this is a beautiful view, but we should get down before something happens." Gwen said.
"I agree with Gweny." Mugman said.
"Last one down to the ground is a rotten egg!" Cuphead said and quickly started to descend.
"Cuphead! Slow down!" Mugman called as he cautiously climbed down. But he looked down and started to get dizzy.
"Mugsy! Don't look down. Just hold on to me and I'll get us down." Gwen said.
"Thanks Gwen." Mugman said as he wrapped his arms around Gwen.
Gwen calmly climbed down, carrying Mugman as she followed Cuphead. But suddenly, a branch Cuphead stepped on snapped and he loses his footing.
"Ahh!" Cuphead yelled as he started to fall.
"Cuphead!" Gwen and Mugman yelled.
Cuphead managed to grab a tree branch before he could fall further.
"I told you this would happen Cuphead! But did you listen? Nope!"
Mugman yelled as Gwen quickly and carefully climbed down to the branch Cuphead hang onto.
When she finally reached the tree branch, she reached out her hand.
"Cuphead! Grab my hand!" Gwen called.
Cuphead tried to reach for Gwen's hand but barely could reach. The branch started to break, scaring Cuphead. Gwen grabbed another branch and managed to grab Cuphead before the branch broke off and fell down to the ground. The trio sighed as Cuphead grabbed onto Gwen next to Mugman. She started to climb back down until she suddenly slipped and started to fall down. Gwen managed to get the cups to safety with the ink pen on the ground. But Gwen fell hard to the ground and heard a crack in her leg.
Gwen groaned in pain and couldn't move.
"Guys! My leg! I think it's broken!" Gwen cried.
The cups ran up to her.
"Cuphead! Stay with Gwen! I'll go get Elder Kettle!" Mugman ordered.
Mugman runs back to the cottage while Cuphead held Gwen's head, comforting her while feeling guilty.
"I'm so sorry Gwen! This is all my fault!" Cuphead cried.
Gwen passes out in Cuphead's lap.
"No! No! No! Gwen! Stay with me!" Cuphead tried to get Gwen awake.
Elder Kettle and Mugman run up to Cuphead and Gwen with a first-aid bag. After wrapping her leg in bandages, Elder Kettle carefully carries Gwen back to the cottage into her bed. He managed to elevate Gwen's injured leg to help it heal.
"Okay boys. She needs to stay in bed. It'll be weeks until Gwen's leg heals up. And I thought I told you boys not to climb that oak tree!" Elder Kettle scolded the cups.
"It was all Cuphead's fault! I tried to tell him, but he wouldn't listen!" Mugman protested.
"He's right. I should've listened, otherwise this wouldn't have happened." Cuphead said, feeling guilty.
"Well, regardless, we gotta help her leg heal up. Now, come on boys. Go get her the crutches." Elder Kettle said.
All three leave Gwen's room while she slept off the pain. But suddenly, a puff of smoke appeared, and the Devil arrived in her room. He notices Gwen's leg wrapped up and elevated and she was asleep.
"What happened to her?" The Devil quietly asked himself, concerned.
He notices her little butterfly trying to wake Gwen up, but the Devil snapped his fingers and magically trapped the butterfly in a jar with holes. He noticed her potted flower next to the birds-of-paradise trying to make noise until he magically ties and gags the little flower.
"Ah, that should do it." The Devil said, feeling proud of himself.
He goes up to Gwen asleep and notices her injured leg.
"Yeesh. What happened to her leg?" The Devil quietly asked.
The Devil thinks for a moment, then disappears back to Hell.
"Henchman!" The Devil yelled.
Henchman comes running in and approaches his boss.
"Uh, yes boss?" Henchman asked.
"Get the ER ready! My beautiful flower's got a broken leg!" The Devil ordered him.
"Uh oh! That's terrible! Yes, boss! I'm on it!" Henchman agreed and ran off the ER.
The Devil disappears back to Gwen's room. He magically levitates her leg up as he lifted her up in his arms. He taps his pitchfork and disappears back to Hell.
The cups arrive back in her room too late with the crutches. Both cups gasped at the empty bed. They notice the little butterfly trapped in a jar and the potted flower tied and gagged. They free the butterfly and flower.
"What happened?!" Mugman fearfully asked the butterfly and flower.
The flower makes his leaf hands like horns above his head and made an evil face. The little butterfly pointed at the bed and then did a little act of the Devil lifting Gwen up and taking her away.
"Oh no, the Devil took her away again!" Mugman facepalmed.
"What are we gonna do?" Cuphead asked.
"We'll think of something." Mugman said, trying to think.
Down in Hell, Gwen slowly wakes up to find herself in a familiar surrounding. She notices she was in a hospital bed with her injured leg in a cast being held up and was wearing a hospital gown. Gwen at first thought she was at the Inkwell Hospital until she suddenly realized she was underground.
Now realizing she was once again kidnapped and brought back to Hell, she looks around for her ink pen and the magic inkwell. But realized too late they were gone and tries to get up. But she discovered her right hand was chained to the bed railing to prevent her from escaping.
"Oh no! Not again!" Gwen quietly said to herself.
Suddenly, she hears someone coming. She laid down back in bed and pretended to be asleep. The Devil along with Henchman and a doctor imp approach Gwen's bed.
"So, doc, how is she?" The Devil asked.
"Well, she's got quite a fracture in her left leg. It's gonna take time for that to heal up. That was quite a bad fall from that oak tree she had." The imp doctor explained as he showed him an x-ray.
"Yeesh. That stupid cup endangered her again." The Devil said, figuring out Cuphead was responsible.
"Uh, what are we gonna do?" Henchman asked.
"I'll tell you Henchman. We'll keep her here with us and take care of her. And when her leg heals up and she's walking again, I'll finally seize the opportunity and marry her once and for all!" The Devil explained and chuckled evilly.
Gwen overhears his evil plan and is unsure what to do now. Gwen remained asleep until hopefully they go away.
"Alright, doctor, you keep up with Gwen's treatment. I'll stay with her until she wakes up." The Devil ordered the imp doctor.
"Alright boss." The imp doctor said and leaves.
"Henchman, go get her something to eat and drink." The Devil ordered Henchman.
"Uh, yes boss." Henchman answered.
Henchman runs off to prepare Gwen something to eat and drink.
The Devil sits down next to Gwen's bed and watched her closely. The Devil placed his hand on Gwen's shoulder and gave her a little pinch. Gwen winced and continued to sleep. Losing patience, the Devil holds her nose and covers her mouth. After a few seconds, Gwen rose up from her bed and gasped heavily.
"About time you woke up Sleeping Beauty." The Devil said sarcastically.
After catching her breath, she winced in pain from her leg.
"W-w-what'd you do that for?!" Gwen sternly asked the Devil.
"Well, what do you prefer? A true love's kiss?" The Devil argued back.
Gwen winced at the thought of another kiss and quickly said,
"Okay, okay I take it back. Why did you bring me here?" Gwen asked.
"Well, duh. I couldn't help but notice you had a bad injury. So, I went to a lot of trouble bringing you here to my personal ER to heal your leg. You really should be thanking me for all of this." The Devil scolded.
"Yeah right! You're just gonna heal me up and when I recover, you're not gonna check me out of here! Am I right?" Gwen argued back.
"Pretty much." The Devil said with an evil grin.
Gwen groaned and laid back in bed, turning away from him. The Devil placed his arm around her and held her face.
"Aw, come on my beautiful flower. This won't be so bad. At least I have you here with me again. I missed you." The Devil said tauntingly.
Gwen hung her head down and groaned. Just then, Henchman comes in with a tray with a bowl of chicken-noodle soup with a roll on the side and a glass of ice water with lemon.
"Okay boss. I have lunch ready for her." Henchman said.
"Excellent. Bring it here." The Devil ordered.
Henchman brings the tray and hands it over to the Devil. He hands the tray to Gwen, and she looks at the soup, roll and glass of lemon-water.
"Oh. Uh… thanks?" Gwen said, unsure if she should accept anything from the Devil.
"That's more like it. You're welcome. Now, eat up. Your leg won't heal overnight." The Devil ordered her.
Gwen sighed and started eating the soup and the roll.
"Oh, Gwen. The doctor said to take these Tylenol pills to ease the pain." Henchman said as he handed her two white pills.
Gwen hesitantly takes the pills from Henchman and swallowed them as she drank the lemon-water.
"Good girl. Now, rest up. We'll begin your healing process later." The Devil said, patting her head.
"But what am I supposed to do all day? Just lay here in bed? I'm bored." Gwen complained.
"Ugh, fine! What do you want to entertain yourself?" The Devil impatiently asked.
"Could you get me some books to read? Like those books I saved last time in your library?" Gwen asked.
"Fine. Henchman! Go get those books Gwen saved from my library!" The Devil ordered him.
"Yes boss! Right away boss!" Henchman said as he hurried to the library.
The Devil sighed and said,
"Alright. He's going to get your books. I must go attend to some business. I'll come and check on you later, so I wouldn't try anything if I were you. I'm gonna have Henchman keep an on you to make sure you don't get any ideas of escaping me again! Do I make myself perfectly clear?" The Devil warned her.
Gwen sighed and nodded.
"Good girl. I'll see you later." The Devil said and left the ER.
Gwen looks around for any escape routes but realizes she can't leave due to her injured leg and that she was chained on one hand. Gwen checks the lamp table with three drawers and reaches her free right hand and opens the top drawer but finds nothing. She reached further down and opened the second drawer but once again finds nothing. With all her might, she reached down and opened the third drawer and to her shock, she finds the magic inkwell and her ink pen down there.
"Oh! What luck!" Gwen quietly said to herself.
But she realized Henchman was coming so she quickly reaches for the magic items and got a good grip on them and pulled them out and quickly hides them under her pillow down the mattress. She used the ink pen and quickly closed the drawer to cover her tracks. After hiding the ink pen, Henchman comes in with a stack of books.
"Duh, okay ma'am, here are your books." Henchman said.
"Oh, thank you Henchman. Just set them down on my bed." Gwen instructed him.
Henchman places the books next to Gwen on her bed and sits down next to Gwen to keep an eye on her. Unknown to Henchman, one of her books is actually a copy of Elder Kettle's book about the magic inkwell. Gwen looks through her books, opens a large book entitled The Wizard of Oz and secretly sneaks the inkwell book in and opens it. Gwen sits back and started reading from the inkwell book. She looks through the pages for a possible healing power she could try. But when she finally finds the page with the healing power, Henchman says to her,
"Oh, you like that story too?"
Gwen pretended to act like nothing was wrong and looked at Henchman.
"Oh, yes. It was one of my favorite stories growing up." Gwen admitted.
"That kid's kinda like you. You both got whisked away from the human world and both of you got magical items like those silver slippers she got." Henchman said.
"Uh, yeah, sure. Those magic sliver slippers. Anyway, I heard they're doing a movie adaption into a musical in my world. I heard the silver slippers are gonna be ruby for some reason." Gwen steered the subject away from the inkwell.
"Oh cool!" Henchman said.
Gwen smiled and continued to read the page with how to perform the healing power. She reads that all she has to do it point her ink pen at the injured part of her body and focus on healing what has been broken and imagine it being restored. Gwen recalls a few similar time she briefly healed her leg during her escape from Sugarland, except it wasn't broken. Now that her leg is broken, she really needs to focus on healing it.
Later that day, Gwen places the book down and decided to take a little nap. She secretly hides the inkwell book underneath her pillow and fell asleep. Henchman pats Gwen on her head and takes the books and returns them to the library. Gwen opened one eye and noticed Henchman was gone and looked around to make sure nobody was around. Gwen grabbed her ink pen and prepared to heal her leg and escape. She pointed the ink pen and focused on her leg injury. The pen glowed and her leg started to glow. After a while, she didn't feel any more pain in leg and felt movement without wincing.
"Oh, my goodness, I did it! I did it!" Gwen quietly said to herself.
Just then, she hears someone coming and quickly hides the ink pen and goes to sleep. The Devil and the imp doctor walk back in.
"So, you want her to start physical therapy tomorrow?" The Devil asked.
"Yes boss. The sooner we get her walking, the faster you'll be able to marry her." The doctor said.
"Very good. And I want her to be always watched at all times. She's really clever and has escaped from me a few times." The Devil ordered.
"Yes sir." The doctor said.
Henchman returned to the ER and reported back to his boss.
"Henchman, how's she doing?" The Devil asked.
"Well, she was reading her books but then she just dozed off. So, I took the books and returned them to the library." Henchman answered.
"Good. Now, keep watching her at all times. Make sure she doesn't try anything." The Devil ordered.
"Duh, yes boss." Henchman said.
"Alright. Now, I brought her some dinner. Make sure she eats up and gets more rest." The Devil said as he hands Henchman a plate of food.
"Okay boss. I'll watch her." Henchman said.
The Devil leaves with the imp doctor as Henchman sits back down next to Gwen. Henchman places his hand on Gwen's shoulder and shakes her a little.
"Hey, Gwen? Wake up." Henchman whispered.
Gwen wakes up and noticed Henchman and smelled something delicious.
"Yeah?" Gwen asked.
"The boss brought you dinner. He said you need to eat."
Henchman said as he handed Gwen a plate of a pork chop with a side of risotto and a side of roasted dill carrots. Gwen eats the dinner without any complaints. She hands the plate and silverware back to Henchman.
"Thank you." Gwen said politely.
"You're welcome, ma'am."
"So, what's gonna happen to me?" Gwen asked.
"Well, the boss is gonna have you start physical therapy tomorrow. Get you walking again as your leg heals." Henchman explained.
"Oh. Okay, I guess?" Gwen said, unsure.
"Great. You should get some sleep Gwen. You'll start to feel better every day." Henchman said.
Gwen sighed and snuggled in her bed. Gwen pretended to wince in a little pain, to make sure Henchman doesn't suspect anything.
"Aw, it'll be okay ma'am." Henchman said as he patted her head.
"Now, go to sleep. We'll start your treatment in the morning." Henchman said.
Gwen closed her eyes and went to sleep while Henchman kept an eye on her. After a few hours, Gwen hears Henchman snoring and wakes up. She grabs her ink pen and magically made her leg injured again to make sure nobody suspected anything. She winced in pain for real, but she knew to expect it. She hides the ink pen back in her hiding spot and went back to bed.
The next morning, Gwen wakes and noticed the Devil and the imp doctor arriving.
"Good morning my dear. I trust you got some sleep?" The Devil asked.
Gwen nodded as the Devil handed her a plate of breakfast with some medication. Gwen eats the breakfast and takes her medication.
"Alright, are you ready to start physical therapy?" The doctor asked.
Gwen was unsure but nodded anyway.
"Alright then." The Devil said as he lifted his pitchfork.
He levitates Gwen's leg in the air, then he levitates Gwen up out of the bed and brings her into his arms while her injured leg was still floating. The imp doctor brings Gwen a pair of crutches. The Devil gently levitates Gwen down and has her grab the crutches and stood on her right leg.
"You know how to use these right?" The doctor asked.
"I think so." Gwen answered.
She uses the crutches to help her get around.
"Alright, now come with me." The doctor said.
The imp doctor leads Gwen to a gym-like area of Hell while the Devil and Henchman followed. The doctor has Gwen do straight leg raises to help strengthen her leg muscles around her hip and knee. Then, he has her circle her ankle both directions to decrease swelling. Next, the doctor has her use a belt to wrap the ball of her foot and hold each end in her hands and stretched her leg for about 30 seconds.
After physical therapy, Gwen is escorted back to the ER back to her bed. The Devil levitates Gwen back in bed and her injured leg back in the hanger.
"Very good my beautiful flower. That was a good first day of your treatment." The Devil complimented.
"Uh, thanks?" Gwen asked, trying not to anger him.
"Good girl. See? You're learning to be grateful already." The Devil said as he patted her head like a pet.
Gwen looked sad, sighed and laid in bed. The Devil magically makes himself a chair and sits down next to Gwen and gently held her face.
"Aw, don't be sad my dear. We'll have you healed and walking again in time for our wedding." The Devil said with an evil grin.
Gwen glared at him and asked,
"Why are you so desperate to keep me alive and well?"
"I have my reasons dear. I will say this. Once we are married, I'm gonna give you a special wedding gift." The Devil answered.
"What gift?" Gwen asked, feeling nervous.
"Oh, it's a very special gift. You know, most humans will do anything to have this gift. It's a surprise." The Devil said.
Gwen felt nervous as the Devil released her face and chuckled evilly.
"Alright, I have to go tend to my duties. You stay here and rest up some more." The Devil said and walked away.
Henchman goes with the Devil, leaving Gwen alone to rest up.
Meanwhile, back at the surface, the cups and Clarence go to the forest and Cuphead holds up the magic chalk.
"Okay, I'll summon the elevator and we should get down there." Cuphead said.
Cuphead draws a large square on the ground as Mugman and Clarence watched.
"Surface world, I'll see you later. Down I go in this elevator." Cuphead recited the incantation.
Suddenly, the elevator appeared from the ground. Clarence and Mugman are shocked.
"Okay, we go inside this elevator, go down to Hell and we'll get Gwen back?" Clarence asked.
"Pretty much." Cuphead answered as they go inside the elevator.
Cuphead closes the door, presses the down button and they started descending in the ground. Clarence hoped Gwen was okay and that the Devil hasn't started any wedding preparations. But he remembered that she doesn't love the Devil at all and gave himself some hope.
After a while, they arrive in Hell. Clarence is horrified at the surroundings and walked cautiously with the cups.
"Wow. This place is creepier than I thought!" Clarence said as he noticed the Devil's tapestries.
Just then, they notice a group of imps approaching and the trio quickly hide behind a big rock. After the imps leave, they sneak up to Gwen's prison bedroom, but they don't find her there. Next, they sneak into the dungeon, but don't find her there either. Then, they try the soul tube area but realize they're getting closer when they notice the ER in the next area. They sneak quietly until Clarence noticed the Devil and Henchman talking. He takes cover behind another rock and listens to their conversation.
"So, boss, what did you mean you're gonna give her a gift when you two are married?" Henchman asked.
"I'm very glad you asked Henchman. Between you and me, what I plan to give her after we're married, is the gift of… immortality." The Devil revealed.
Henchman gasped as well as Clarence gasped too.
"B-b-but boss! If you give her that, that means she'll be healthy and young… forever like you!" Henchman protested.
"Exactly! She'll outlive her family, including that boy. So, the only family she'll have is me." The Devil explained his intentions on making Gwen immortal.
Clarence is horrified at his plan and isn't sure if he should tell Gwen about it. But he snaps out of it and rejoins the cups to sneak into the ER. The trio find Gwen sleeping in her bed and Clarence quietly called,
"Gwen!"
Gwen wakes up and looked around. She noticed Clarence and the cups hiding behind some medical equipment and gasped. The trio shush her as they quietly sneak up to her. Gwen and Clarence hug each other. The cups quietly get up on the bed and hug her.
"Guys! You came for me!" Gwen quietly said.
"Of course, we did Gweny." Cuphead said.
"We remembered Cuphead had that magic chalk." Mugman explained.
"I was just visiting you when they told me what was happening. So, I wanted to come with them here to save you." Clarence said.
Gwen smiled, then she grabbed the magic inkwell and ink pen along with the book.
"Hey, how did you get those back?" Cuphead asked.
"I swiped from the bottom drawer when Henchman wasn't looking. He really picked a dumb place to hide them this time." Gwen answered.
"Wow, that was stupid of him." Clarence said and laughed.
"Guess what I learned while I was down here?" Gwen asked.
"What?" Asked Mugman.
"I can actually heal myself! Watch this!" Gwen said and pointed her ink pen at her injured leg.
Gwen ink pen glowed, and her injured leg glowed and healed the fracture from within. Clarence and the cups were shocked.
"Could you believe the Devil had a copy of the inkwell book down here?" Gwen asked as she removed the cast from her leg.
"I can believe that." Mugman said.
Clarence lifts Gwen out of the hospital bed as she magically made the book disappear back to the library in her pile of books.
"Okay, I'm ready to check out of the hospital. You guys ready to go home?" Gwen asked as she magically changed into her regular outfit.
"Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!" Both cups said excitedly.
Clarence giggled and wrapped his arm around Gwen. She tapped her ink pen and the four disappeared back inside cottage. Gwen sighed of relief and hugged the cups and Clarence.
"Thanks for coming for me guys." Gwen thanked them.
"You're welcome. You're our sister after all." Cuphead said.
Gwen and Clarence kissed each other until Gwen realized something.
"Wait, he's gonna go check on me anytime now. I gotta do something to get him off my back." Gwen said.
Gwen and the cups think for a moment until they hear a knock at the door. Clarence looks through the peephole to make sure it wasn't the Devil.
"Uh, guys? Why is there a basket with a baby bottle in it?" Clarence asked.
Gwen and the cup's eyes popped.
"AH! IT'S BABY BOTTLE!" The cups cried and held onto Gwen.
"Who's Baby Bottle?" Clarence asked.
Gwen briefs to Clarence about Baby Bottle and the time he beat up her friends and Elder Kettle.
"Yikes. He's a little monster." Clarence said, feeling scared.
Just then, the door was pulled open, and Baby Bottle was ready to attack her friends.
Both cups screamed until Gwen thought of an idea and got out her ink pen.
"Wait Baby Bottle! I need your help!" Gwen quickly said.
Baby Bottle looked at her confused.
"Mama?" Baby Bottle asked.
"Look, I know someone you can beat the living daylights out of! Someone who thinks is eviler than you!" Gwen said, trying to be persuasive.
Baby Bottle looked menacingly and said,
"MAMA!"
"Yeah! So, what do you say?" Gwen asked nervously.
Baby Bottle gives her a menacing look. Gwen realizes Baby Bottle wants something from her. Gwen magically makes three dummies of her cup friends and the Devil appear in her arms.
"Oh. Alright. Do this and you get these dummies for you to beat up whenever you want." Gwen said.
Baby Bottle looked at Gwen, then nodded in agreement.
"Alright then. Let's go!" Gwen said as she cautiously lifted Baby Bottle in her arms.
Clarence and the cups gather around Gwen, wanting to go with her. Gwen teleports the group back to the ER in Hell. Gwen places Baby Bottle in his basket and places him in the hospital bed. Gwen and the boys run off and hide behind some medical equipment.
Just then, they hear the Devil and Henchman arriving.
"Alright Henchman, let's see how my fiancée is…" The Devil said until he suddenly noticed the baby basket.
"What the?" The Devil said as he took the note from the basket.
Both the Devil and Henchman read,
"Please take care of baby!"
Both of them look at Baby Bottle as he made a cute face and cooed.
"Aw!" The Devil and Henchman said.
"What's a cute little baby doing in Gwen's…?"
The Devil was about to ask when suddenly Baby Bottle yowled and charged at the Devil and started beating him up severely. The Devil cried in excruciating pain.
"Help me!" The Devil yelled.
"Don't worry boss! I'll save you!" Henchman said.
He tries to grab Baby Bottle, but he is suddenly grabbed and was also getting beaten up severely. Gwen, Clarence and the cups watch and stifle their laughter. After a few minutes, Baby Bottle stopped beating up the Devil and Henchman as they lay on the ground injured. Baby Bottle smiled and crawled up to Gwen and reached his arms for her.
"Uh, you're not gonna hurt me, right?" Gwen asked, making sure.
Baby Bottle nodded and reached his arms to her. Gwen cautiously picked up Baby Bottle in her arms and teleported the group back to the cottage. Gwen places Baby Bottle back in the basket and gives him the three dummies as promised. Baby Bottle happily beats up the dummies as Gwen magically sends Baby Bottle on his way.
The group sigh of relief, glad to have the Devil defeated and to be rid of Baby Bottle once again.
"Uh, Gwen? I was coming over to ask you if you wanted to go out for dinner and dancing tonight?" Clarence asked.
"Hmm, sure. Since I can now walk again, I might as well get it moving." Gwen said as she moved her healed leg.
"Great!" Clarence said as he led Gwen through the door portal to go out on another date.
Meanwhile back in Hell, the Devil and Henchman were both in hospital beds receiving treatment for their injuries in the ER.
"I… warned… you… Henchman. She's… very… clever!" The Devil struggled to speak, trying to blame Henchman.
"But… boss… you… pulled… me… away… for… a… while." Henchman weakly argued back, pointing the blame on him.
The imp doctor comes in and shows the two their x-rays and they both have broken bones in their bodies.
"You both got a lot of fractures in your bones, it's gonna take a long time for them to heal up. So, get some rest and take your medications." The imp doctor said, handing them their medications and leaves them alone.
"If… I… didn't… know… any… better… I think… she figured… out… she… could…heal herself!" The Devil weakly said angrily.
"B-b-but… boss! How… was… I… supposed… to know…?" Henchman tried to protest until the Devil tried to reach for Henchman to attack him, but his spine cracked.
"YEOUCH!" The Devil cried in pain and laid back in bed.
"Phew!" Henchman sighed of relief.
Back at the surface, Gwen and Clarence enjoy their date together having dinner and went out dancing. Clarence walks Gwen home when he just remembered his discovery of the Devil planning to give Gwen immortality. They both walk into the cottage.
"Hey, Gwen? There's something you should know." Clarence said.
"What is it?" Gwen asked.
Clarence has Gwen sit down on the couch and he held her hands.
"While the cups and I were looking for you in Hell, I overheard the Devil talking to Henchman about giving you… something after he married you." Clarence nervously admitted.
Gwen's eyes widened, realizing Clarence knows what the Devil plans to give her if he marries her.
"The Devil told me he plans to give me a gift after we 'marry', but it's a surprise. What is it?" Gwen asked, demanding to know.
"Uh… I don't think you're gonna like it." Clarence nervously admitted.
"Please, Clarence. I need to know. If it's really that bad, we need to stop it from happening. You can tell me." Gwen assured him.
Clarence took a deep breath, and said,
"If the Devil marries you, he's gonna give you…"
Clarence struggled to speak the last word,
"I-i-i-im-immortality."
Gwen's eyes widened and she gasped.
"What?! Why would he do that?!" Gwen asked.
"Because… he wants to make you immortal like he is so that you'll remain young, healthy and beautiful… forever. So, that you'll outlive your family, friends and me so that he'd be your only family." Clarence nervously explained the Devil's plans for Gwen.
Gwen is horrified at the Devil's plans for her as she tried to calm down.
"I'm so sorry Gwen. I shouldn't have told you." Clarence tried to apologize.
"No, no Clarence. I'm glad you told me." Gwen assured him.
"You are?" Clarence asked.
"Yes. I don't want to be immortal. I want to live my life till the day I die and go to Heaven to be with my family and you." Gwen admitted.
Clarence's eyes widened.
"Immortality isn't a gift, it's a curse. He's gonna make sure I suffer for all eternity with no family and friends." Gwen explained.
"Oh. I see your point." Clarence said as he held her to comfort her.
"I swear Clarence this isn't gonna happen. Not as long as I keep resisting and rejecting him." Gwen said, now more determined to never marry the Devil.
Clarence smiled, hugged her and said,
"Don't worry Gwen. I promise I will do everything I can to protect you."
"And I will see to it that I protect you too." Gwen said back.
They both kissed again as Clarence prepared to leave for his apartment. Gwen head upstairs to rejoin the cups and head to bed. Clarence heads back to his apartment and sat on his bed, wondering what to do next. Clarence changed in pajamas and prepared to go to bed when suddenly, a knock was heard at his door. Knowing it was his roommate, Ms. Chalice, he called,
"Come in."
Ms. Chalice entered his room in her pajamas and jumped on his bed.
"Hey handsome! How'd it go with my girlfriend tonight?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"It was great Chalice. Gwen learned a new power: healing." Clarence said.
"Oh cool! There's nothing she can't do!" Ms. Chalice said.
"Yeah, hey Chalice? I've been thinking." Clarence said.
Ms. Chalice's eyes popped and sat next to Clarence.
"Ooh, what is it? You wanna tell your roomie about it?" Ms. Chalice said in a cute-like voice.
"I… I'm wondering if maybe… I should…" Clarence hesitantly said until Ms. Chalice interrupted,
"Oh, wait! Don't tell me! You have a new idea for your show!" Ms. Chalice guessed.
"Uh, no. It's not the show." Clarence said.
"Oh, then what is it?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"I went to rescue Gwen in Hell earlier today with the cups and I overheard what the Devil plans to do to Gwen if he marries her. I learned he plans to give her immortality so that she'll outlive her family, friends and me and be young, healthy and beautiful forever. I want to protect her Chalice. And she wants to protect me too." Clarence admitted.
Ms. Chalice's eyes widened. She hugs Clarence in pity.
"Man, the Devil is more determined to marry her than ever." Ms. Chalice said.
"If I tell you what I've been thinking about, will you promise to keep it between us?" Clarence asked.
"I promise, buddy." Ms. Chalice promised.
"Chalice? What if perhaps… it's time to consider… the next step?" Clarence asked.
Ms. Chalice gasped and asked,
"What? Are you seriously thinking about…?"
"Well, what if it's the only way to protect her from the Devil and he'll leave her alone forever?" Clarence asked.
"I don't know buddy. Do you feel ready for it? And is Gwen ready for it?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Well, I'm not so sure to be honest." Clarence admitted.
"Then maybe hold it off for a while. Maybe things will work out." Ms. Chalice said.
"Okay. Maybe she's not ready yet either. Maybe one day we'll be ready." Clarence said.
"Sure, you both will be. And hey, maybe it would protect her from the Big Doofus." Ms. Chalice said.
"Well good night, Chalice. I'll see you in the morning." Clarence said, ending the conversation.
"You too, handsome." Ms. Chalice said as she got up and left his room to go to her room.
Clarence thought about what he said to Chalice and reached in his lamp stand drawer and pulled out a little box. He opened it and looked at a beautiful diamond engagement ring. Clarence sighed and decided to go get some other advice. He gets dressed and goes downstairs to the kitchen. He grabs a jawbreaker from the pantry and puts it in his pocket.
He goes through the door portal to the forest and walks along a path. He reaches the ancient ring of stones and approaches the pool of water. He grabs the jawbreaker and drops it in the water. A blue light shines from the water and a wind blew around him. He hears Quadratus's voice say,
"Your mind is troubled young lover of Gwendolyn, for your patience of saving her is wearing thin!"
Clarence knelt to the water and frustratingly said,
"I don't know what to do anymore. The Devil plans to give Gwen immortality if he marries her and I'm not sure if proposing to her now is the answer. I don't know if it's the way to make the Devil leave her alone for good!"
Quadratus appeared in the water and said,
"Calm down my boy you are upset, you've been through a lot so do not fret."
Clarence sighed in sadness and held his head in his hands.
"The Devil is too powerful and he's not gonna stop kidnapping her and trying to kill me. I just want all this to stop. What do I do? Please help me." Clarence asked as tears fell from his face.
"Before I tell you, you must calm down; dry those tears and wipe that frown." Quadratus said.
Clarence takes a few breaths and wipes his tears.
"Are you calm now my boy?" Quadratus asked.
"Yes." Clarence sadly answered.
"Look, you both love each other I get it. But you've both only known each other for a while. Your heart is in the right place with your theory, but it is too soon for you to commit to her. Marriage is very hard you know; it takes two to make it work. You need to be patient and give your relationship with Gwendolyn more time. Focus on your relationship than the idea of getting married. Only you both will know when you are ready to commit." Quadratus advised.
Clarence listened carefully and though about it.
"As for the Devil, never give up on fighting him for he doesn't deserve a girl with a beautiful heart and soul like Gwendolyn. Remember what I said to you before?" Quadratus asked.
"Oh yeah. Love conquers all." Clarence remembered.
"Precisely my boy. Now, you should go home and get some sleep. Things will be better tomorrow." Quadratus said as he disappeared from the water.
Clarence got up and leaves the ring of stones and headed back to his apartment through the door portal. He changes back into his pajamas and goes to bed.
The next morning, Clarence has breakfast with Chalice at the table.
"So, what have you decided?" Ms. Chalice asked.
"Well, I decided that I need to give our relationship more time and be patient. You were right, we're not ready yet but I hope one day we will be. And I'll never stop fighting the Devil. He really doesn't deserve Gwen." Clarence said.
"I'm proud of ya handsome. You're doing this the right way." Ms. Chalice said as she ate some cereal.
Clarence felt proud of himself for talking about his concerns with Ms. Chalice and Quadratus. Clarence continued to enjoy spending time with Gwen and the three cups each day. Gwen learned to be more careful playing with her friends to avoid any more injuries.
