Chapter 10

Percy was nervous.

I mean, who wouldn't be? War had been looming overhead for 3 years now. It was a long time coming, in a very, very bad way.

Percy emerged in the woods through Mrs. O'leary's shadow travel. As before, the ability took a lot out of the hellhound. As soon as they got to the Big House, she immediately whirled around and went to sleep.

Chiron was expecting him. He was looking at him with a sad expression, which puzzled Percy af first but he realized that he had trained Achilles. He must fear that he would end up with a fate similar or much worse than that of his old student.

"Chiron, I'm back," Percy greeted the longtime trainer of heroes.

"I am glad you have made it home safe, my boy," the centaur greeted back. "It seems Mr. Uzumaki is yet to return."

"We will have to start the war without him," Percy said. "We'll hold them off until he arrives."

"Very well," The centaur nodded.

Percy looked at his teacher oddly. "Uhm, Chiron. We're following your lead. You're the leader, right?"

Chiron shook his head. "I am your trainer, your teacher. That is not the same as being the leader. Now, what do you want to do?"

Percy sighed. "I'd rather let Naruto or Annabeth lead the campers. I don't know if I might screw this up. I can't think clearly while I got a prophecy to deal with."

Despite his feelings he steeled himself. "Until then…I'll do my best."

And so Percy gathered the campers. As he went around, he met up with Zoe who volunteered to watch over the camp while Percy and Naruto did their own things.

On the way, he met up with Luna who wrestled happily with Mrs. O'leary whose fatigue all but disappeared when she saw her playmate.

After everyone was ready, they gathered at the foot of Thalia's tree.

He looked around at the number he had gathered. There were only around seventy of them, a pitiful number when compared to the army that Kronos had gathered. He saw familiar faces: Castor, Pollux, The Stoll Brothers, Katie Gardener, Lee Fletcher, Jake Mason, who was acting as the Hephaestus Cabin Counselor after Beckendorf got incapacitated, and Malcolm Pace, Annabeth's second in command.

"So…" Connor Stoll spoke "Where to, boss?"

EMPIRE STATE BUILDING
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK, NY

New York was awesome.

You have a giant hellhound and a dog that kinda looked like a wolf loping behind three vans and no one batted an eye.

I guess the mist was working its magic.

Once everyone disembarked from the vehicles, Percy decided that the first order of business was to have an audience with the King of the Gods and convince him to defend the home front.

The group entered the lobby, where they were greeted by a security guard, "School group? Sorry we're about to close up."

Percy shook his head. "Six-hundredth floor please."

"There's no six-hundredth floor, kid," The guard said.

The Son of Poseidon leaned in closer. "We have seventy demigods hanging out in your lobby. This number can attract the wrong kind of attention, if you catch my drift."

He gave Percy's words a bit of a thought. Eventually, he hit a buzzer and the security gates swung open. "Make it quick."

The group took the elevator in two trips. 80s pop hits were the theme of the day's elevator music, and Percy couldn't help but imagine Apollo dancing around in bell bottom pants. He shuddered at the thought.

The elevator ding couldn't come any sooner.

Percy had been here before, back in the quest of the lightning thief, and the scene in front of him never got old. It still took his breath away.

This time though, things were completely different. The mansions still glittered gold and white against the side of the mountain, and the gardens still bloomed a hundred terraces. But this time, there was no music, the shops were closed, and the chatter of the gods and nature spirits were nowhere to be found.

With the second ding of the elevator doors, he was broken out of his musings. He pushed on with his crew.

They made their way across the sky bridge into the streets of Olympus.

As they neared the palace of the gods, Castor and Pollux exclaimed almost simultaneously, "What's that?!"

They pointed at the evening sky where blue lights were streaking towards Olympus like tiny comets. Almost like…

"Infrared scopes," Michael Yew, one of Lee Fletcher's campers, said. "Someone's targeting us."

"Then we better get to the palace," Percy ordered.

Once they got there, It was apparent that no one was guarding the hall. The gold-and-silver doors stood wide open. Their footsteps echoed as we walked into the throne room.

Well of course, the word "room" doesn't really begin to describe this place. It was the size of Madison Square Garden. High above, the blue ceiling glittered with constellations. Twelve giant empty thrones stood in a U around a hearth. In one corner, a house-size globe of water hovered in the air, and inside swam Bessie, the Ophiotaurus,a half-cow, half-serpent monster that Naruto and the gang saved two summers ago.

"Moooo!" he said happily, turning in a circle.

Despite the urgency of the situation, Percy smiled. He had been through a lot with this loveable monster. He was beginning to grow on him. "Hey, man. They treating you okay?"

"Mooo," Bessie answered.

The group marched on forward, and a woman's voice said, "Hello again, Percy Jackson. You and your friends are welcome."

Hestia stood by the hearth, poking the flames with a stick. She wore the same kind of simple brown dress as she had before, but she was a grown woman now.

Percy bowed. "Lady Hestia."

Everyone followed his example.

Hestia regarded the boy with her red glowing eyes. "I see you went through with your plan. You bear the curse of Achilles."

The other campers started muttering among themselves.

"You must be careful," Hestia warned. "You gained much on your journey. But you are still blind to the most important truth. Perhaps a glimpse is in order."

NARUTO

Naruto panted as he tried catching his breath.

This power…The nine-tails chakra was hard to control and fine tune.

At first, he was crushing a boulder that he was supposed to stack. When charging towards an enemy, he often overshot his target.

But his teachers were patient. Killer Bee calmly coached the boy, no matter how much he was screwing up the exercise.

And Yugito…well she just wanted an excuse to let loose.

They had been going at it for a while now, with no clear winner in sight. Initially, Yugito wanted to go all out and enter Tailed Beast State, but Killer Bee advised against it, since Naruto could only access the chakra.

After a break, the two were at it again.

Yugito did some hand signs and spat out two hairballs wreathed in blue flames.

"Beginning the battle with a ranged attack, huh? Pretty textbook," Naruto smirked and zipped through the battle, avoiding the hairballs.

He was about to taunt his opponent when the fireballs exploded into a number of mouse-shaped projectiles and began to pursue him

"What the hell?" He complained.

"Not a textbook play now, is it?" Yugito taunted.

Not waiting for a response, charged towards Naruto with her claws out, ready to swipe.

Naruto was busy dodging and destroying the little mice when he sensed something coming. He ducked immediately.

He narrowly dodged Yugito's claws.

"Pretty good reflexes there, I have to admit, but you haven't seen nothing yet," Yugito said.

She pressed the attack.

Naruto met her headstrong, not leaving any openings. Their previous bouts gave him a pretty good idea of her fighting style, her tells and her cues.

But that was the least of his worries. He had to avoid the little rats and fend off the attacks at the same time. He had to think of something fast.

Then he smirked.

Seeing Yugito charge again, Naruto enlarged his hands in an attempt to catch her midair, but with her catlike reflexes, she maneuvered out of the way and continued her advance.

Naruto quickly retracted the hand and dashed forward to meet her. He caught the girl's hand just in time, claws mere inches from his face. He held her in place.

His senses told him that the rest of the mice were converging upon them.

"What are you doing? Let go!" Yugito screamed.

"I've been wanting to test out this cloak's durability," Naruto said nonchalantly. "Why don't you help me with my little experiment."

"You little–"

BOOM!

The two of them were caught in an explosion of hellfire. Fortunately for them, the two were covered in their chakra cloaks. They were protected from the explosion.

Killer Bee watched the battle unfold without worry. His charge was getting the hang of his new found powers, and pretty quickly at that. He guessed Yugito had a point there. Sometimes, you have to run before you learn how to walk.

Two figures leapt away in opposite directions as the smoke began to clear.

It was a stare down.

Yugito, wasting no time at all, decided to attack before his opponent could decide to. In an instant, she was right in front of him.

With practiced ease, Naruto sent a chakra arm to grab her while she was shot straight at him.

With cat-like flexibility, she swerved and bent and twisted out of the numerous arms that manifested themselves and tried to grab on to her.

"Damn, she's taken to Two Tails really well," Naruto muttered.

"I HAVE A NAME. DAMMIT!" Naruto swore he heard a voice in his head.

"Huh?" Naruto stopped in his tracks. He was sure it wasn't the Nine Tail's voice.

Seeing the moment of distraction from the boy, Yugito took the opportunity to strike and dig her claws deep in the blonde.

"Ye–"

She just about celebrated but the Konoha shinobi puffed out of existence.

"A shadow clone?!" Yugito exclaimed.

Naruto rushed in from the shadows and tried to form a Rasengen.

What happened next shocked the onlookers.

Instead of the normal blue spiralling sphere of chakra, a dense black ball of pure concentrated chakra formed.

Yugito's eyes widened. If she were to get hit with the Tailed Beast's most powerful attack, she was done for, chakra cloak or not.

Fortunately for her, the attack was unstable, exploding on the chakra arms hand and hitting both target and user.

"What was that?" Naruto asked in confusion.

"Tailed Beast Bomb," Killer Bee explained. "The strongest jutsu in a tailed beast's arsenal. My theory is that the jutsu of yours is based on this one. Your father may have developed this jutsu while studying the biju."

Naruto thought about it. He remembered reading about it when he was reading the scrolls that were left to him by his godly mother. "I think you may be right."

"Try doing the jutsu again, this time pour in more of your own chakra," Killer Bee advised.

Naruto did as he was told.

And true enough, the normal blue hue of the Rasengan formed.

"Bingo," Killer Bee smirked at his deduction. "Okay, let's train that next."

"Right,"

"Okay, imagine your chakra having two colors, red and purple," Killer Bee explained

Naruto did as he was told. He remembered the colors that formed from when he tried to form his Rasengan.

Seeing the look of understanding on his face, Killer Bee continued. "Now imagine them mixing together and compressing into a single point."

Naruto entered his chakra mode again and gathered the chakra in his palm.

Initially, he thought he was doing okay. But he was proven wrong when the jutsu turned unstable and exploded in his face. This earned a hearty laugh from the Two Tails Jinchuriki, much to the chagrin of the blonde.

Then, he asked what had been on his mind since he called out Yugito's cat-like fighting style.

"I can't get it out of my mind, I heard this deep voice earlier," Naruto stated out loud.

"Oh, you must have heard Matatabi," Yugito answered.

"Matatabi? Is that Two Tails' name?" He asked to confirm, hearing a growl which he assumed was coming from the said tailed beast.

"Would you like to meet them?" Yugito offered, earning a nod from the eager blonde.

"Alright! We'll take a break for now~," Bee began rapping again. Talk with our tailed beasts we would allow. Oh yeah!~"

"So, how do I meet them?"

Bee and Yugito held out their fists. Reluctantly, Naruto bumped his fists with theirs.

Instantly, he was transported into a room that looked like the Tailed Beast Temples inner Sanctum with a colorful background.

Towering before him were two of the chakra monsters, a massive blue cat made of hellfire that danced like a candles flames and massive hybrid of a bull with eight octopus tails.

What he heard next made him gulp. "I have to say, I don't like you very much."

PERCY

"IS ZEUS DUMB OR SOMETHING?!" Percy raised his voice as he spoke with the Messenger god.

After Hestia showed him the vision of Luke's past, Hermes came out to greet them. He wore a military pilot's flight suit, with tiny bird's wings fluttering on his helmet and his black leather boots. In the crook of his arm was a long staff entwined with two living serpents.

And I tell you, he did not look happy, especially with the boy's response.

Thunder rumbled overhead.

"I'd watch that mouth of yours, Jackson, especially with your standing with Lord Zeus," Hermes warned him.

"But if Zeus is aware of the trap, why does he insist on slowing down Typhon?" Percy demanded.

"Think about it," Hermes explained. "Kronos commands a massive army. The only way up the mountains is the elevator. He would take hundreds or thousands of trips to get his army up the mountain."

"What about air travel?"

"Zeus has that covered too. Aeolus, the King of the Winds, has sent his most powerful minions to guard the citadel. No one save the gods can approach Olympus from the air, lest they would be knocked out of the sky."

"They can just teleport or materialize here."

"That's a form of air travel too, Jackson. Very fast, but the wind gods are faster. No, if Kronos wants Olympus, he'll have to march through the entire city with his army and take the elevators!"

Percy thought about it well. It sounded ridiculous, but Hermes really did make a very good case.

"But still, Kronos is your enemy! He devoured the elder gods for crying out loud! You must come and defend Olympus. Maybe even just a few of you," Percy pleaded.

"No, Jackson," Hermes shook his head. "In the old days, when we were at our most powerful, he came close to destroying us all; He humiliated us! Now, we can't even fight at full power. Poseidon is off fighting his own war. Hades sits in his realm and does nothing! I–"

"No, apparently he's off trying to control the prophecy for his own." Percy commented offhandedly

Hermes gave him an incredulous look but he continued, "Regardless, it will take all our remaining forces to slow down the Father of All Monsters. We can't divide our forces , nor wait for him to come to New York. We have to battle him now. We're making progress."

The god, himself, didn't sound so sure.

"PROGRESS?! He destroyed St. Louis," Percy raised his voice

"He only destroyed HALF of Kentucky!" Herme matched the demigod's tone.

There was silence. Only the moos of the Ophiotaurus break through the silence of the night.

"In any case, you are on your own, demigod," Hermes said.

"Oh are we going back to battle?" One of Hermes' serpents spoke up.

"Rodents!" The other snake stirred. "I mean lasers!"

"Oh and one other thing," Hermes said as he turned his back. "When Annabeth gets back, tell her to use plan twenty-three. Now if you'll excuse me. I have a war to fight."

Percy was left alone. After the vision Hestia had granted him to the conversation he had with the god to the look of anguish he had on his face as he tried to pry him for answers, Still, nothing made sense.

The god said something about Annabeth failing to save Luke, but he only answered with 'Why don't you ask your friend?' or 'She knows what she did!'.

In any case, there was nothing he could have done. Annabeth wasn't here to be questioned,

As he stirred in his thoughts, The Stoll brothers came running into the throne room with an air of urgency.

"You need to see this," Connor said. "Now."

Percy was confused.

The blue lights in the sky had stopped, which the demigod thought was a good thing. It meant that Hecate stopped whatever she was planning to do.

The other campers had gathered in a small park at the edge of the mountain. They were clustered at the guardrail, looking down at Manhattan. The railing was lined with those tourist binoculars, where you could deposit one golden drachma and see the city. Campers were using every single one.

The Son of Poseidon looked down at the city. He could see almost everything from here—the East River and the Hudson River carving the shape of Manhattan, the grid of streets, the lights of skyscrapers, the dark stretch of Central Park in the north. Everything looked normal, but something was wrong.

It was then that Percy realized what was wrong.

It was silent.

Manhattan was supposed to be a lively city. Even at the dead of night, the hustle and bustle of the city could still be heard, even at this height.

Percy pushed one camper away from one of the binoculars and took a look himself.

In the streets below, traffic had stopped. Pedestrians were lying on the sidewalks, or curled up in doorways. There was no sign of violence, no wrecks, nothing like that. It was as if all the people in New York had simply decided to stop whatever they were doing and pass out.

"Morpheus…" Percy muttered to himself. "So, they decided to make a move."

He turned to his motley crew of campers and said, "Let's go. The invasion has started."

If there's one thing you could count on to lighten your mood in a doom and gloom scenario, it was Mrs. O'leary.

The group found her pigging out at an overturned hotdog stand, while the owner was curled up on the sidewalk sucking his thumb.

Argus was there watching the hellhound with amusement, all of his eyes trained on the chowing hellhound.

Percy walked up to the camp guard and told him everything he had learned from that little talk with Hermes. Even he was not amused by what Percy reported. All hundred of his eyes rolled giving Percy a sort of psychedelic effect.

"You better get back to camp," Percy told his friends.

The camp guard nodded.

Before he left, he rummaged through the back of the van and produced a standard issue shield. It looked pretty much like any shield in camp, but when Argus placed it on the ground, it showed the image of the statue of liberty which was a little ways away from their location.

"Annabeth mentioned that one," Malcolm Pace spoke up. "It was one of Daedalus' ideas."

"We helped Beckendorf make this one," Jake Mason added. "Man, Daedalus's designs sure are unique."

Malcolm concentrated. "The image zoomed and spun. The image passed through Central Park, zooming past East 60th, then past Bloomingdale's, then turning to Third Avenue."

"Wait! Back up!" Connor suddenly yelled.

"What do you see?" Percy asked, trying to look for whatever the boy spotted.

"Dylan's candy bar is open, and everyone is asleep!" Connor said, excitedly.

He and his brother shared a high five. Typical of Hermes' children.

Percy gave them a stern look. "You're not thinking of raiding a candy store in the middle of a war, are you?"

The Stoll brothers gulped.

I guess when Percy tried he could act like a leader if he wanted.

"We'll hold on to it," Malcolm picked up the shield. "I'm sure Annabeth is coming back anytime soon."

Argus grunted, which Percy translated as "Good Luck, you're gonna need it."

He climbed into the van and drove off.

KONOHAGAKURE

The pinkette was worried.

His idiot, or rather former idiot, of a classmate was getting himself involved in a war on another land. That he himself wasn't part of.

Or was he really part of it.

"Gah!" She let out a frustrated growl. She learned a lot of things about Naruto when he came back from the Land of the Gods or whatever place that was. She was seriously doubting if he really knew Naruto at all.

"What's wrong, Billboard Brow?" Ino asked. "You've been growling all day."

"I want to help Naruto wherever it is he needs to fight, but I can't think of a way to get there. I'm seriously stuck."

"What's getting you all frustrated? Use that big forehead of yours, you'll think of something," Ino half teased, half advised.

She took a deep breath and reviewed what she knew.

The last time Naruto came home, He used the Flying Raijin. This was a bust. The only known users of the jutsu that were alive were the Yondaime's former guards, but all three of them needed to be present to use the jutsu. As Special Jonin, it would be hard to get all three of them together at the same time in their free time. So that was a bust.

Before that, it was through the toad reverse summoning. This was a bit easier. There was only one other person who could summon toads other than Naruto himself. That person was a hermit, but considering Tsunade's constant complaints, the best place to find him was–

"I got it!" Sakura exclaimed.

"That was quick," Ino was impressed with her friend. "What did you have in mind?"

"Gather all the free shinobi from our classmates that you can find," Sakura ordered.

"Hey, you can't order me, we're both Chunin!" Ino protested. "Hey! Where are you going?"

"To the hotspring," Sakura answered straight to the point. "I know just who to ask to take us to Naruto."

Ino gulped. There was this evil glint in her friend's eyes. But he knew who his friend was talking about. She just hoped that the pinkette wouldn't kill him once she found needed him alive after all.

"I'll meet you at Training Field Number 7," Ino said.

With their goals in mind, the two girls went their separate ways.

SAKURA

The pinkette marched her way to the Konoha hot springs.

She was trying to calm herself, or else she was going to kill the person she was going to see.

Just as she predicted, she started hearing the creepy giggles coming from the bushes on the elevated portion next to the women's bath.

A vein popped on her head.

Oh Lord, I pray for the soul of the particular man.

Over at the women's bath, the girls taking a bath were concerned as screams of anguish were heard nearby.

NO PLEASE! SPARE ME!

NOT THERE! NOT THE NUTS!

AHHHHHHH!

The girls in the bath looked at each other, shrugged, and continued as if nothing happened. They felt relieved as if a predator was no longer looking at them hungrily.

Jiraiya had his back on the tree, actually fearing for his life, battered and bruised from Sakura's punishment.

Tsunade's student was turning into another Tsunade.

Sakura stared at him with a murderous look. "Honestly, if I didn't need you right now, you'd be dead."

Jiraiya's sense of preservation shot up through the roof. He got to his knees and bowed down seiza style. "I'll do anything!"

"Anything?" Sakura calmed down a little.

Jiraiya lifted his head from the ground and nodded his head vigorously.

Sakura sighed in relief. She thought it was going to take some convincing, but finding him peeping into the women's bath actually worked in her favor.

"Good. Come with me," She smirked and dragged him by the collar.

A/N

I got a comment last chapter correcting me that Artemis was Naruto's mother. I advise you to re-read my story and find out HOW exactly Naruto became Artemis' son. Just a little homework for my readers. It seems some of you are mistaking my story with other fics with Artemis as Naruto's mother.
