Jenna was pacing her kitchen the next morning while Jeremy, Alaric, and Bonnie sat at the table. It was basically how they spent the night. Jenna certainly hadn't slept at all. If being turned into a vampire and nearly sacrificed wasn't enough, she was terrified for Elena. The others had assured her that Elena would be okay, but Jenna had seen the pain her niece had gone through last night.

Jenna turned to the others. "How long is it going to be? You said Elena would be back to normal at sunrise. Its been a couple of hours now."

"She's a new wolf. Maybe she's just having a hard time coping with it and needed time alone," Bonnie theorized.

"How did this even happen? There's nothing in our family history that suggests that we have the werewolf curse," Jeremy said. John didn't seem to think so either, although he had taken off right after they told him. He didn't handle Elena turning very well, much to Jeremy's resentment. The least he could've done was stick around long enough to make sure his daughter was okay.

"Maybe she got it from Isobel," Bonnie said.

Alaric shook his head. "That's not possible. Not long after we were married, Isobel was involved in a car accident. The other driver died. It was no one's fault, but from what I understand, it doesn't matter. The curse would've been activated. I would've noticed if she disappeared once a month to turn into a werewolf."

"Then, assuming the gene isn't in our family line, John isn't Elena's father," Jeremy said.

"It doesn't matter right now," Bonnie said.

Just then there was knock at the door.

Jeremy got up. "I'll go get it."

"Has anyone heard from Stefan? I called him a couple of times this morning. I thought maybe Elena might have reached out to him when she changed back," Bonnie said.

Alaric shook his head.

Jeremy came back into the room with Caroline and Tyler moments later.

"We got here as soon as we could. How's Elena? Did everything go according to plan?" Caroline asked concerned.

"Not even in the slightest. The sacrifice never happened," Bonnie told her before explaining to the two of them everything that happened the night before.

"Elena triggered the werewolf curse? I didn't even know it was in her blood line," Tyler said in shock.

"No one did, including Elena. It came as a complete shock. She turned just as Klaus and his witch were starting the ritual," Bonnie said.

"But that's possible. Even if she has the gene, she hasn't killed anyone," Caroline said.

"She has. She daggered Elijah. Even if it wasn't permanent, technically, he was dead," Bonnie said.

"That counts?" Caroline asked in disbelief. She never would've guessed that the temporary death of a vampire would force someone to shift into a werewolf.

"Apparently," Alaric said.

"So, where is she now?" Tyler asked.

"We don't know. She hasn't come home. I'm worried," Jenna said.

"I'll go look for her. She's probably scared. I know what she's going through," Tyler said. He felt like he owed it to Elena to help her though this. She had to be terrified. He had at least been prepared. His uncle told him about the curse. When he'd triggered it, he knew what was going to happen. This had been sprung on Elena.

"I'll come too," Caroline said.

"Uh, she's going to need clothes. Hers wouldn't have survived the transformation," Tyler said a bit awkwardly.

"I'll get her clothes," Jenna said before leaving the room.

Elena found herself sitting against a tree hugging her knees. She'd woken up a while ago. She wasn't sure exactly how long ago. The moment she did, the flash returned, as did her crippling, debilitating headache. There were so many flashes going through her mind all at once. There were so many of them that she couldn't even pinpoint most of what was happening. She felt like her mind was being rewritten.

"Stop!" Elena cried out as the flashes continued and her headache worsened. She didn't understand what was happening to her. This couldn't be from turning into a werewolf, could it? Nothing she knew about the curse made her think it was like this. Caroline had spent a lot of time with Tyler, and she never mentioned something like this. All she knew for sure was that she felt like she was going crazy.

Elena tried everything she could to stop what was happening to her. She tried to think of anything but what was happening inside her mind, but it didn't work. The flashes kept coming. Finally, she tried to focus on just one flash, one memory. After quite bit of effort, it worked. She could picture one memory in her mind and it stayed for a few moments.

Elena found herself in a large house, castle-like. She had no tangible memory of being there before, but in this memory, she seemed to know exactly where she was going. She was young. She knew that because everyone and everything towered over her.

She found herself going into a large living room. Klaus was there, as was Elijah. There were others as well. There was also a lot of tension visible, but the younger version of Elena didn't seem to care as she went up to Klaus and grabbed onto his leg.

Klaus turned scowling, but his features turned into a grin as he saw her. He bent down and picked her up. "There's Daddy's princess. What are you doing out of bed?"

"I had a bad dream," young Elena said as she placed her head on his shoulder.

"Did you now? Well, that won't do at all. Tell me what you're dreaming about, little love," Klaus said in a patient tone.

"There was a monster," she said.

"A monster? Now, that's just silly. No monster would dare bother my little girl," Klaus said.

A blonde woman suddenly appeared in front of them and smiled at Elena. "It's okay little one. How about Auntie 'Bekah sings you back to sleep and makes sure all the monsters are gone?"

"I want Daddy."

"It's alright, princess. Daddy will be in to tuck you back in in just a few moments. Go with your aunt," Klaus said.

Elena gasped as she came out of the memory. At least it appeared to be a memory, but how could it be? It was supposed to be her memory, but it was too outrageous to be a memory. First of all, the child in her flash was supposed to be her, but it couldn't have been. She would never call Klaus 'Daddy,' and he would never speak to her with such affection. Plus, everyone in the memory seemed older. They were dressed in old-fashioned clothes, like what she'd expect in late eighteen hundreds to early nineteen hundreds. What was happening to her? Was she somehow gaining someone else's memories?

Elena groaned as the flashes resumed. Once again, they came in quick succession, never staying long enough for her to place anything.

"Elena," a voice called out.

Elena didn't respond at first. She didn't even really hear the person.

"Elena," the voice said again, this time it was followed by the person grabbing her shoulders.

Elena was finally able to register that she was being spoken to. Thankfully, the flashes stopped long enough to focus and see that it was Caroline in front of her. "Caroline, I don't know what's happening to me!"

"It's going to be okay. You have the werewolf gene. You triggered the curse when you daggered Elijah. I know it's scary, but you'll be alright," Caroline tried to assure her.

"No, not that! That's the least of my problems. Something is happening to my mind. I'm having memories that I shouldn't have," Elena cried.

Caroling took the information in. She didn't know what was happening either, but she decided that the best option was to get Elena dressed and back home. "Okay, we'll figure it out. Let's just take it one step at a time. I have some clothes for you. Let's get you dressed.

Elena grabbed her head as more images appeared in her mind. How could there be so many of them? "I can't. I can't do anything."

"It's okay. I'll help you," Caroline said before pulling her friend to her feet. She then helped her get dressed before calling out to Tyler. "Tyler, you can come over now."

Tyler came out from behind the trees and approached the two ladies. "Elena, are you okay? I know what happened last night is really freaky."

"Tyler, Elena said something about gaining memories that she didn't have before," Caroline said.

"It feels like my memory is being taken over, like someone's rewriting my life," Elena said with a shudder.

Tyler looked very concerned. "I don't know anything about that. It's not a wolf thing, if that's what you're asking me."

"Then what? What is happening to me?!" Elena yelled in fear.

"We're going to figure it out, Elena. Let's get you home for now. Do you want me to call Stefan? I'm sure he can meet us at your house," Caroline said. Seeing Stefan would make Elena feel at least a little better. She was always happier when he was around.

Elena remembered the flash she'd had last night, where Stefan was talking to her like he was compelling her. She didn't know if that was real or not, but she did know that she had no desire to see him. It was almost like a switch had been flipped inside of her. Any love she felt for Stefan was gone. She didn't know why. All she felt for him right now was disgust. Again, she didn't know why. "No, don't call Stefan."

"Okay. We'll just take you home," Caroline said.

Elena started to walk with them, but then the flashes started again. She doubled over and grabbed her throbbing head. "Ah!"

"Elena, are you okay?" Caroline asked.

"It won't stop," she cried.

"Elena, can I carry you," Tyler asked. It was the only way that they were getting her out of there.

Elena nodded. Moments later, she felt herself being swooped up in his arms. She put her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes as he carried her.
