The morning after the full moon, Elijah could be found in the kitchen getting some breakfast on the table for his niece. She would no doubt be hungry after turning, as well as a bit sore. Normally that would be Niklaus' job, but he was in the living room contending with their daggered siblings. He'd taken the daggers out the night before, knowing it would take a while for them to wake up.
Marcel and Rebekah soon entered the kitchen through the back door. They had spent the night in a hotel. Sadie had not wanted anyone home while she transformed. She hadn't wanted to hurt anyone accidentally. Of course, Elijah and Klaus refused to leave. "Morning, brother. Is Sadie awake yet?" Rebekah asked.
"No. Would you mind bringing her some clothing, sister? She will want to get dressed when she wakes," Elijah said. He certainly shouldn't be the one to do it. Her clothing would be gone due to the transformation. It wouldn't be right for him to see her that way.
"Of course," Rebekah said.
"Don't wake her up. Just leave the clothes by her and leave. Don't touch her or anything. She'll scream. Her nightmares are worse after the full moon," Marcel said. They'd learned that the hard way. Bonnie had taken her clothes after the first full moon she'd spent there. She also tried to cover her up with a blanket. Sadie had screamed bloody murder.
Rebekah nodded before leaving the room.
"Her nightmares are bad?" Elijah asked. Since they'd arrived, he'd heard Sadie cry in her sleep once. He and Niklaus both went to her side. She'd thankfully calmed down before either of them could do anything to help her.
Marcel nodded. "Sometimes they're really bad, especially after a full moon. I think it's because the full moon jump started everything. It's why the compulsions broke. She says she doesn't remember the nightmares when she wakes up, but I think she's lying. I think she's just worried I'll push her about what happened. I've tried to give her space. She doesn't know any of us that well yet. I figured it was better to let her talk about it in her own time."
"I agree," Elijah said.
Bonnie and Caroline soon walked. "Hi, everyone," Bonnie said.
"Good morning, ladies," Elijah said politely.
"Is Elena up yet?" Caroline asked.
"Not yet. Rebekah just went to grab her some clothes for when she does wake up. I'm going to go grab a shower," Marcel said before heading out of the room.
"Ladies, might I have a word?" Elijah asked his niece's friends.
"Sure, Elijah. What's up?" Caroline asked before she and Bonnie sat down at the table.
Elijah took a seat as well. "First, allow me to say that there is nothing we could ever do to repay you for all that you've done for my niece. You would've been justified in not wanting much to do with her after finding out your friend's fate."
"We could never do that. She's our friend too. We love her," Caroline said.
"Are you trying to tell us you want us to leave?" Bonnie asked in a tight voice. It sounded like he was using compliments to gear up for saying something they wouldn't want to hear.
"No, not at all. You two are very important to Sadie. She loves you very much, and I know how much you've helped her these past few months. The last thing I want is for her to lose you. She's lost enough, and I know you have too. That's why I want to make sure that you understand that Sadie isn't Elena," Elijah said as gently as he could.
"We do understand that. We're not trying to use her to take the real Elena's place, if that's what you're worried about. We know they're two different people, and we love both of them for who they are," Bonnie said.
"Yet you continue to call Sadie Elena," Elijah pointed out.
"Because that's the only name she knows, other than in some flashes. It's the name she's used to," Caroline said.
"I understand that, but to be perfectly frank, it's a lie. Other than a couple of years, her memories of being called that were fabricated. All of her memories, all of the personality traits that were fed to her when she took over that life, were nothing more than the manipulations of two sick individuals playing a very cruel game. I feel that hanging onto that name will only make things worse for her, especially considering that she's already answering to her true name. I believe it will just confuse her," Elijah told them. He also knew that Niklaus would only tolerate it for so long. If Sadie had seemed at all attached to the other name, it would be different, but she was responding to her name.
"That should be her choice, shouldn't it?" Caroline asked.
"Yeah, but she's kind of already made it. She's been answering to her true name since Marcel started calling her that. We're the only ones that still call her Elena. I think maybe she just doesn't want to hurt us, or maybe like Elijah said, she's confused by it all," Bonnie said.
Just then, Rebekah came in. She's awake. She'll be up soon. She… She was tossing and turning when I went down there, so I woke her up. I didn't touch her. I just said her name until she woke up."
"Her nightmares are always worse around this time," Bonnie said.
Elena came in a couple of minutes later. "Morning, everyone."
"Good morning, dear. I made you some breakfast. It may be a little cold now. I'd be happy to heat it up for you," Elijah said.
"That's okay. I'll eat it the way it is. Thanks, Uncle Eli," Elena said before sitting down. She'd just begun eating when she heard yelled, followed by what sounded like a punch. She immediately got up.
"No, Sadie, stay here please," Elijah said. He knew what she'd just heard. Finn and Kol were awake and were taking their anger out on Niklaus.
Elena ignored her uncle and headed for the living room. She arrived just in time to see her Uncle Kol punch her father in the face and send him to the ground. "Stop it!"
Kol scoffed at the girl before advancing again. It seemed his brother had found another Petrova doppelganger. He would file that information away for later. Right now, he was going to make his brother pay for daggering him.
"I said stop," Elena said before raising her hand, which sent Kol flying across the room. She hadn't meant to use telekinesis on him. Her plan was just to shove him away. Apparently her powers had other ideas. "I'm sorry, but I'm not going to let you hurt my dad."
Kol stared at her in shock. She'd just called his brother her dad. This was his niece. She was apparently a doppelganger. Under different circumstances, he'd find that hilarious. "Sadie?"
"What?" Finn asked in disbelief. The girl claimed to be Niklaus' daughter, but that was impossible. Vampires couldn't have children. It was the only good thing to come out of the curse placed on them. They could not give their aunt another child to subject herself on.
Klaus picked himself up and put a hand on his daughter's shoulder. "It's alright, little love. "
The others made their way into the room moments later.
"Did you know your daughter was a doppelganger, Nik?" Kol asked.
"No. I'm fairly certain that was the universe's way of flipping me off. I don't particularly care though. I'll gladly live with the curse," Klaus said as he wrapped an arm around his daughter.
Kol approached his niece. "Do you remember me, darling?"
Elena nodded. "I remember meeting you, but not much else."
"You were pretty young. I taught you your first spell though," Kol said. He glared at his brother. His niece barely remembered him because he daggered him when she was so young.
"I'm not sure it has to do with me being young. I might remember more, but my mind has kind of been ripped apart," she said.'
"What?! What happened to you? Did someone hurt you?" Kol asked in horror. Sadie had been just fine when he was daggered. The idea of someone hurting her infuriated him. He adored that little girl.
Elena turned to her father. "He doesn't know?"
"He was daggered a few days before it happened," Elijah said.
"Before what happened?" Kol demanded to know.
Elena turned back to her uncle. "I was kidnapped by someone who wanted to hurt my dad. She faked my death, and at some point, she and her accomplice placed hundreds of compulsions on me to make me believe I was someone else. They didn't break until I trigged my werewolf curse a few months ago. My mind is still dealing with it all."
Kol was livid, both at the monsters who dared to harm his niece, and at his siblings for leaving him daggered through it all. He glared at his brothers. "Why the bloody hell didn't you undagger me?! I could've done something!"
"We didn't think there was anything to do, Kol. We thought she was dead, killed by a coven of witches. We were wrong about all of it. Witches were barely even involved," Elijah said sadly.
"Witches? That's more of a reason to undagger me! No one knows witches better than me. I could've proven one way or another if they were involved. I could have helped her," Kol said in anguish.
"Stop, please!" Elena said a bit loudly. "They already blame themselves enough. Please don't make that worse. It's not their fault or yours! I don't want anyone to blame themselves. That just gives Katherine more power."
"Katherine? Is that the name of the person who did this?" Kol asked. He would definitely be filing that away for later. She would pay for doing this.
Elena nodded. "You'd know her better as Katerina Petrova. She had help, but she orchestrated the whole thing."
"She'll pay with her life!" Kol snarled.
"Oh, no, she will pay with more than her life," Klaus said.
"Yeah, go with that. Blame the person responsible. Stop blaming yourselves or each other," Elena pleaded.
"Sorry, darling. I was a bit caught off guard," Kol said apologetically.
Finn soon made his way over. He was too shocked to move or speak for a while.
"Sadie, this my older brother, Finn," Klaus told his daughter.
"Hi. It's really nice to meet you," Elena said as she held out her hand for him.
Finn took the offered hand. "You as well, child."
"Perhaps Kol and Finn should get cleaned up. There is also blood in the kitchen for you both," Elijah said.
"Excellent! I'm famished," Kol said with a grin.
"I'll show you," Elena said before leading the way to the kitchen.
Finn glared at Niklaus slightly. "We need to talk later, brother. You have no idea what you've done."
Klaus could only glare at his brother's back as he left the room.
