Ray hummed a little tune to himself as he walked up to the Smith family's apartment with a bit of skip in his step. He was excited because he and Maya would have the house to themselves for a few hours while the kids were all out. Cole, Jay, Kai, Lloyd, and Nya had all gone to the Mega Monster Amusement Park to try out some of their new rides. They were all super excited and Nya mentioned they were going out for dinner later, so they wouldn't be back until tonight.
The only ones not going to the amusement park were Harumi, Morro, Pixal, and Zane.
Harumi's parents, mainly her father, didn't like the idea of their daughter hanging around with 'the freaks' as her father described it, so they had suddenly dragged her off to some last-minute conference. Morro had gotten a detention, again, so he was grounded. Pixal and Zane were on a date somewhere. Ray was looking forward to spending some quality time with his wife, but as he entered the apartment, he was met with two surprises. He could hear Nya and Kai shuffling around in their rooms.
He thought that they might have left by now, but he must have gotten the time wrong.
The surprise was Maya. She was slumped on the couch with a depressing look on her face. He hadn't expected her to look so miserable, especially when she had more time at home. Recently, Ray and Maya made a decision and she went on part-time work. This was so they could keep a closer eye on the kids, and so one of them could be here if anything came up.
"Hey, how was your day?" He asked the love of his life, but he was met with an unenthusiastic response.
"It was boring, I order this little figurine thing online, it's really ugly." She pouted and sighed in boredom. "But it will take four to six weeks to get here and I wanted something to look forward to." She added as she slumped further into the couch. Ray nodded slowly as he kicked off his shoes and hung up his coat and bag.
"You know, um, you're not working and you have all this free time on your hands so why not go to the gym? They deduct twenty dollars from our bank every month so we might as well check to see if they're still in business." He smiled, only to be met by a glare from his wife.
"Are you saying I'm fat?!" She snarled and Ray slowly backed away.
"No, no! It's just something to get the endorphins going, I read somewhere that that's a natural anti-depressant." He smiled nervously and Maya groaned as she leaned back on the couch with a large pout. "You know, real anti-depressants work too." He suggested and at that, Maya suddenly got up and stormed to their bedroom. Ray sighed and headed to the kitchen to grab something to eat. He settled for some pot noodles, but he didn't get a chance to eat them.
After boiling the kettle and pulling off the wrapper, he made to put it in the trash.
Only to freeze when something displeasing caught his eyes. Reaching into the trash can, he pulled out an empty box of pregnancy tests and he almost screamed in horror when he realized this.
"NYA! GET YOUR ASS IN HERE RIGHT NOW YOUNG LADY!" He shouted louder than he probably should have, but he was too upset to give a damn. Fearing the worst, Nya came running out of her bedroom to see what was wrong.
"What do you want?" She asked, only for Ray to shove the box in her face.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!" He shouted, his face growing redder and redder by the second.
"A pregnancy test?" She replied in confusion.
"I KNOW THAT! HOW THE FUCK DO YOU KNOW THAT?!"
"Because it says it on the box!" She exclaimed in frustration.
"WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING WITH THIS?!"
"It's not mine! I'm not an idiot; if it was I wouldn't throw it away in the kitchen." She replied, and that was true. If it was her she would have thrown it away in the dumpster downstairs, along with the cigarette butts and empty beer bottles.
"Alright, I wanna know what's going on here! Are you knocked up?!" He screamed as his eyes scanned her up and down as if he could somehow sense if she was pregnant or not.
"I said it wasn't mine! You never believe anything I say!" She cried, shocked at her father's accusations.
"That's because you and Kai never tell me the truth!"
"Hey! Hey! What's all the screaming about?" Maya asked as she stepped into the kitchen. She had heard bits of the shouting from the bedroom and she decided to intervene before one of their neighbors started complaining.
"OUR DAUGHTER'S TAKING PREGNANCY TESTS!" Ray roared as he threw the box to her.
"I SAID IT ISN'T MINE!"
"AND I'M JUST SUPPOSED TO BELIEVE THAT?!"
"This is mine." Maya suddenly said calmly and everyone froze.
"Oh... right?" Ray stammered as his eyes darted back and forth between the two females. Nya had a satisfied yet still annoyed expression and Maya was waiting for him to apologize to their daughter. "Sorry sweetie, I'm not mad at you anymore." Ray chuckled awkwardly as he kissed Nya on the cheek, relieved that she wasn't pregnant. Nya rolled her eyes and stormed off back to her bedroom. When they were alone, Ray turned to his wife.
"W-What're you doing taking pregnancy tests?"
"I wanted to find out if I was pregnant." She replied and once again Ray felt like screaming in horror. Maya rolled her eyes at her husband's reaction and made to head for the bathroom to get ready for the night, only to be blocked by Ray.
"Are you?! Are you telling me that you're pregnant?!"
"The last time I told you that I made you a nice meal and got you drunk first." She joked, but it didn't help Ray's panic in the slightest.
"Well, I'm hungry and sober, so?"
"I'm not pregnant." She said and Ray almost collapsed in relief. But that relief was short-lived when he realized something.
"Wait, why would you even think you were pregnant? You're on the pill." He said, but when he was met with silence he started to panic again. "You are on the pill right?"
"Technically, no." She admitted casually.
"Technically? Maya, I don't want technically! We don't want another accidental kid!" He cried, but Maya scoffed and entered the bathroom, slamming the door in his face. Ray sighed and went to sulk in his and Maya's bedroom. When they first got together, Maya told him she wasn't getting on the pill because that hormone stuff made her crazy. Which Ray quickly learned was true. His mother-in-law had had the brilliant idea to put Maya on birth control when she was fifteen.
It turned the house into a warzone.
It quickly scared him off from attempting that solution, which resulted in Kai and Nya. Turns out that condoms aren't always effective. After their children had been born, Ray and Maya went to the doctors and were prescribed a new form of morning-after pills They had been incredibly grateful and have never stopped using the pills and other means of birth control since then. Ray was a bit concerned for his wife, but he was more scared that there was something wrong with the pills.
Believe him when he says that you don't want to be in the same room with an angry, hormonal, alpha female werewolf.
He suddenly snapped out of his thoughts by the sound of a phone buzzing and Kai and Nya leaving for the amusement park. Ray knew that he had to make it up to his daughter soon, but right now he needed to find out what was wrong with his wife. When Maya finally left the bathroom and entered the bedroom, Ray was about to say something, only for her to suddenly grab him and pull him into a rough, passionate kiss.
"Hey, what's gotten into you?" Ray asked breathlessly when they finally parted.
"Nothing, I'm just really in the mood." She grinned, which Ray returned. They started making out and fell onto the bed together. As Maya pulled off her shirt, Ray remembered what she said about not taking her pill.
"Um, baby, don't you think we need to take some precautions?"
"Yeah, I'm good to go, don't worry about it." She reassured him as she pulled off her shoes and tossed them aside.
"Come on sweetie, we just dodged a bullet so don't you think we should be more careful before firing the gun again? I mean, you don't want to end up pregnant." He said and Maya grinned like a kid in a candy store.
"Oh come on honey, would it be the end of the world if we did have another baby?" She giggled as she started unbuttoning his shirt.
"WHAT?! NO! Have you lost your mind?!" Ray shouted as he pushed his wife off him, but he might have pushed her a little too hard because went rolling off the other side of their bed with a loud cry. Ray was scared that he had hurt her, but that proved false when Maya suddenly stood up. Her long hair was ruffled and covering most of her face, but Ray could still the anger in her eyes.
"Why not?!"
"Because that would be like running a marathon, seeing the finish line and deciding to start all over from the start," Ray explained as she sat back on the bed. The one thing he feared more than Nya pulling out a pregnancy test was his wife pulling out a pregnancy test. He loved Kai and Nya and he wouldn't trade them for the world, but he didn't want to go through the process of raising a baby again, especially not at his age.
"But I wanna be pregnant! I'm happy when I'm pregnant! Oh, and don't forget, we have great sex when I'm pregnant." Maya smirked and Ray looked away. He didn't know how to best explain to his upset wife that looking like you have a beachball stuffed under his shirt and awkwardly trying to walk around wasn't very arousing.
"I know what this is about; you're just bored but you're moving backward, not forwards." He replied, trying to get her mind off this idea.
"That's not true at all! Now do me!" She ordered before she suddenly leaned back on the bed and went spread eagle. Ray stared at her in shock for a moment before he suddenly got up from the bed.
"I'm sorry but I'm gonna have to pass this time; no glove, no love." He huffed before shuffling to the bathroom to take care of his sudden tight problem...
Things in the Smith household only got more and more awkward after Maya's announcement that she wanted to have another baby. Kai wasn't that bothered by the thought of having another sibling as he and Nya were heading to college soon so the chances of them being close if a baby was born were slim. Even though she wouldn't admit it, Nya always wanted a sister, so she felt that if her parents did have another baby, she wouldn't mind.
As long as it was a girl of course.
When Kai told all of their friends what had happened with their dad and the pregnancy test, however, almost everyone found it funny. Cole and Harumi couldn't stop laughing about it. Jay quadrupled checked that Nya wasn't pregnant and was relieved when she promised she wasn't. Unfortunately for Jay, this revealed to Kai that they were having sex. Let's just say that after that discovery, Jay was going out of his way to avoid Kai as much as possible.
Lloyd and Morro were way too scared of Nya's wrath to comment, but also secretly found it hilarious.
Pixal and Zane gave their friends an unwanted lecture on safe sex and teenage pregnancies. When Ray returned home that day he noticed that the kids weren't home. He also noticed Maya sitting on the couch, licking up what looked like melted chocolate out of a bowl and off of a wooden spoon.
"Hey, what you got there?"
"Chocolate frosting." She mumbled before taking another big lick off of the wooden spoon.
"Did you make a cake or something?" He asked hopefully, his stomach grumbling at the thought.
"Nope." She replied as she finished the last of the chocolate frosting. Ray sighed in frustration and pulled out his phone for a quick internet search.
"Alright, that's it, we're finding you a hobby." He ordered as he sat next to her, but she just gave him a confused look.
"Why?"
"Because I want you to be happy as can be and satisfied sweetie." He smiled because although that was the main reason, he was also hoping that a hobby would take her mind off having a baby. The first thing that came up in the searches was painting clubs. The painting was one of the most relaxing hobbies to pursue in the field of arts and crafts, but the look on Maya's face told him that she wasn't interested. Another thing that came up was dancing.
Experts believed that dancing was a good stress-relieving hobby because it required the movement of the body.
But Maya flat out refused to do that. Other activities he suggested were scrapbooking, blogging, taking a music class, calligraphy, and joining a book club. Yet one after another, Maya shot them all down.
"Come on Maya, I'm trying here! What do you wanna do?" Ray asked in desperation.
"I told you, I wanna be a mother!" She exclaimed and by now Ray was at his wit's end. Without warning, he stood up, walked over to a wall, pulled off a framed family picture, walked back over to Maya, and shoved the picture at her.
"Oh look at that, it's a girl and a boy! Go and mother them!" He shouted, pointing at Nya and Kai in the picture, before leaving the apartment to get some fresh air...
Taking Ray's advice, Maya got up at six in the morning and woke up her children, which the pair did not care for. As Maya was waking them up, she saw the state of their bedrooms. While the teens got ready for the day and fought over the bathroom, Maya made a point of loudly cleaning their bedrooms and rearranging all their things. This meant that neither Kai nor Nya could work out where Maya had put most of their school supplies and even some of their clothes.
Nya wanted to make it stop, but everyone knew how stubborn Maya could be.
They just had to wait it out and let her get it out of her system. Things didn't get much better at breakfast. Kai and Nya were used to making their breakfast, but they were shocked to walk into the kitchen and see Maya cooking. This might have been a nice treat if the bacon wasn't green. When Kai asked their mother what was wrong with the bacon, Maya laughed and said that it was seaweed, much to their horror. To make matters worse, she even gave them some tofu pancakes that look even less appetizing than the seaweed bacon.
Thankfully, the siblings were able to escape to the safety of the school.
Make no mistake, they loved both their parents. But due to their upbringing, Kai and Nya were more independent and their mother's sudden interest was a little freaky to them. Unfortunately, they couldn't stay in school forever and since all their friends had other plans, they could hide out with them for a few hours. With no choice, Kai and Nya begrudgingly returned home where their mother was waiting for them. Kai was the first one to enter the apartment, thinking if he was quick enough he could get to his room before Maya could stop him.
But as soon as he entered the apartment, he saw Maya standing in the living room, staring intently at the front door.
It honestly scared the brunette and reminded him of a horror movie.
"Hey Kai! How're you doing?" Maya squealed in delight at her son. "Come over here and hang out with your Mom!"
"Sorry, I can't, I... uh... h-have homework!" He stammered nervously and started backing away to the hallway that led to the bedrooms. "Yeah, I've got this book report to do and it needs to be in by tomorrow."
"I can help with that! I read all of Nya's book reports, so maybe I can give you a second opinion." She suggested eagerly and began to head to his bedroom, only for Kai to quickly block her path.
"No thanks, Mom! You don't wanna read mine, if you've read one you've read them all." He chuckled awkwardly and all but ran to his room and locked the door. What he didn't want anyone to know was that he had copied the book report from Nya's laptop. Maya sighed and sat on the couch. All though she was a little saddened by Kai's dismissal, Maya's spirits were lifted again when she heard the front door open and turned to see Nya trying to sneak in.
"Hiya, Nya! I was thinking that maybe you and I could go out and have a spa day together." She happily suggested as she held up a leaflet for the Swan Lake Day Spa. "We can use the steam room, get mud facials, massages, and seaweed wraps."
"Sorry Mom, I had a rough day at school, and I've had enough seaweed for today," Nya replied, shivering at the memory of Maya's special breakfast.
"Oh, do you want to tell me about it?" She asked quickly and suggested for her daughter sit next to her.
"I think I'm just gonna turn in early tonight, thanks anyway, Mom." The noirette teen replied and, like her brother, she locked herself in her bedroom. Maya sighed sadly at her children's dismissal of her attention and retreated to the kitchen to drown her sorrows in chocolate ice cream...
"So, how are things with Maya going?" Dr. Robert Julien asked as he finished stitching up Ray's bloody arm. While he was at work, Ray had caught himself on a sharp object which resulted in a deep cut. That usually would have required a trip to the hospital. But Ray was scared that the doctors would try and take a blood test so he drove to Zane's house to seek some medical attention from his father. Unfortunately, the doctor didn't have any pain relief on hand at the house.
But Ray would take a few minutes of pain to a lifetime in some government facility.
"Not so good, we haven't had sex in almost two weeks." The noirette mumbled sadly as Robert cut the thread and he pulled his sleeve down.
"What's up with her anyway?"
"She just not happy, and when she's unhappy I'm unhappy, and do you know who's least happy? Ironically, Mr. Happy." He grumbled miserably.
"I thought you told her to concentrate on the children?" Robert frowned as he packed up his first aid kit and headed to the kitchen.
"That didn't work out so good, they wanted nothing to do with her, so now she's back on the idea of having another baby," Ray replied with a heavy sigh.
"You're lucky you two can even have children." Robert sighed as he passed Ray a glass of scotch and sat beside him. "My co-worker, Dr. Cavanagh, and his wife have been trying to have a baby for three years now; they've tried everything and now they're going to have to hire a surrogate." He explained, shaking his head sadly at the thought. He knew that surrogacy can be a good option for some people, but in his opinion, it was a risky choice.
Surrogacy had many pros and cons for intended parents.
For hopeful parents, the benefits of surrogacy seemed obvious. It was a way to make their dreams of parenthood come true. However, the hundreds of families who have completed the surrogacy process would assure anyone that the pros of surrogacy extended far beyond that. Surrogacy can complete families. For some people, surrogacy was often the answer to years of unsuccessful attempts to create a family. It can allow for genetic connections.
Gestational surrogacy often enabled one or both parents to maintain a biological relationship with their child.
It can also create relationships. Many intended parents could become close with their surrogate and her family during the process, developing meaningful bonds that could last a lifetime. Surrogacy ensured that the parents were involved. Intended parents were often able to be involved in their surrogate's pregnancy since it was their baby. They did this by attending key appointments and being present for important milestones, including embryo transfer and birth.
Also, surrogacy was likely to be successful.
Many surrogates have a proven track record of carrying healthy, full-term pregnancies, which often made surrogacy more likely to be successful than fertility treatments for any intended parents. While there were surrogacy pros for intended parents, however, there were also some disadvantages of surrogacy for hopeful parents to consider. Surrogacy could be legally complicated. Gestational surrogacy involved complex medical procedures and surrogacy laws.
Legal processes could be overwhelming at times.
It was important to work closely with a trusted professional to ensure the process was completed safely and legally. Surrogacy could also cost a significant amount. Because of the number of people and services required to complete a successful surrogacy, surrogacy could be expensive. Surrogacy also required the parents to let go of some control. While the intended parents typically enjoyed a greater sense of control and involvement than families pursuing adoption, they would need to relinquish some control and trust their surrogate to carry the pregnancy.
"Really?" Ray asked with a wince as he drank the scotch, thinking back to all the horror stories he had heard of surrogates getting attached and running off with the baby.
"Yes, and it's going to cost them over forty grand." Robert sighed as he shook his head, thinking how sad it was that sometimes having a baby was so expensive.
"Really?" Ray asked again, but this time it was lighter, and a smile spread across his face...
Maya liked to think that she was a patient woman. She had to be when being a mother to two teenage werewolves who both seemed to love causing trouble with their friends. She had stayed calm when Nya, Lloyd, and Jay were trapped with their schoolmates on Dorcha Island, on the night of Nya and Lloyd's first full moon transformations. She had kept her composure when Cole and Kai had been arrested on a full moon. She had tried to stay calm when Kai became addicted to using Jōhō.
She managed to pacify her husband when Wu told them about Pixal finding out about the werewolf's secret.
Although she had been worried about all of the wild werewolves suddenly showing up on their territory, she was one of the few adults in the pack to keep her head. She liked to think that she handled Kai's sexuality, then ran away, and Cole lived with them better than most would have, especially compared to Lou. The return of Dr. Terri Kiken had thrown them all of a loop. But thanks to the teens' quick thinking and a bit of deception from Wu had seen the scientist off.
That was when she finally realized that her children were growing up.
That they didn't need her or Ray as much as before, not that their parents were around much. But she would still be there whenever they needed her. Whether they wanted her or not. Maya liked to think that she was a patient woman. Yet nothing could have prepared her for this.
"You want me to be a surrogate?!" She shouted at her husband, who was sitting on their bed. "You won't even let anyone touch your golf clubs, yet you want to rent out my uterus?!"
"Hey don't blame me, blame Robert! It was his stupid idea!" Ray cried, only to realize what he said, but it was too late.
"What the hell are you doing talking about our personal and private issues with Robert?!" Maya roared with her eyes flashing yellow and the veins on the back of her hands and in her neck started to turn black.
"It wasn't just Robert, I talked to a lot of our friends about this because you are driving me nuts!" He confessed, starting to get more frustrated and getting sick and tired of Maya's foul mood. "You're upset and I don't know how to help you which makes me upset! I love you but I don't know what to do for you." He tried to explain to her, but Maya only shook her head in disappointment.
"You can't just take out your toolbox and fix me! Finding a solution is not going to solve my problems!"
"THEN WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT FROM ME?!" Ray suddenly bellowed, almost shaking the apartment and startling his wife. There was a tense moment of silence before Maya finally broke out of her stunned trance.
"I... just want you to listen and try to understand what I'm going through." She replied sadly and Ray took a few deep breaths to calm down before he wolfed out in their apartment.
"Ok sweetie, tell me, what're you going through?"
"I DON'T KNOW!" She suddenly screamed and Ray had to bury his face in his hands before he snapped at her again. "We put our careers first so that we could provide for our kids and the whole time I thought as soon as we got enough saved up and the kids were old enough to care for themselves we could focus more on them, but guess what? That backfired!" She shouted, looking very close to wolfing out.
"Now my kids don't need me and soon they'll be gone, then work will force us to retire; then I'll be stuck at home with no kids, no job, I'll just have you!" She spat at her husband before storming out of their bedroom and out of their apartment.
"Did I mention it pays forty grand?!"...
"Come on Mom, I said I was sorry!" Kai cried as he followed his raging mother back into their apartment. The brunette should have guessed that simply changing the name on the book report to his wouldn't have fooled the teachers. Especially since Nya's report talked about how she had connected with the main character of the story, who was a strong, independent woman. When Maya was called to the office and told about Kai's actions, she almost exploded at her son for copying someone else's homework.
They would have expelled him if it wasn't his last year at the school.
This still led to a lecture from his mother and the principal on how homework went beyond just the task itself. It helped children take control of their workload and increase their time management skills. Homework was set with a deadline and taking ownership of this deadline helped them think independently and develop problem-solving skills. Homework also helped teachers assess which students understood the class topic and who needed a little more help.
"Sorry isn't going to take back me having to go to the principal's office, sorry won't make people forget that you stole your sister's work!" She shouted and Kai looked down in shame, which he should be feeling. "Now go to your room and if you so much as start breathing heavily I'll shave your head!" She ordered and Kai sheepishly scurried into his room and carefully shut the door, locking it behind him. Maya sighed angrily as she stormed into her and Ray's room.
She found her husband sitting on their bed, watching some reality TV show.
"Hey, uh, I've been thinking about what you said." He stammered as he turned off the TV. Maya gave him a confused look but didn't stop him from talking. "You made some valid points about the kids and our past choices, and... um, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea if we did have another baby." He confessed, and he was speaking the truth. He had thought about nothing else since Maya first suggested having a baby. The main argument he had for not having another baby was that it would be tiring.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and looking after a young baby were all pretty tiring, so it stands to reason that this would be even more true if they were also caring for an older child.
Kai and Nya were teens and could probably help out, but they would probably be in college by the time a new baby was born. Another thing he was worried about was having to do the parenting thing all again. This one made it onto both the pros and cons lists because having another baby meant they would have to do it all again. Maya would, once again, find herself battling against morning sickness, hemorrhoids, and backache. She would have to endure sleepless nights, tender nipples, and seemingly never-ending feeds.
The other con of having another baby was that it could be more expensive than when they were younger.
While they already had some of the items in storage, certain expenses couldn't be avoided. They would need to buy twice as many diapers, cinema tickets, school uniforms, and university education. It may not cost them much in the short term, especially if Maya breastfed again and used washable diapers, but at some point, they would find that having another child becomes more expensive than before. Yet, he also realized that there were positives to having another baby.
The main pro of having a second baby was that it was easier the second time.
This was by no means science, but many parents felt that looking after a baby was easier the second time around. This could be because they had done it all before, they felt more confident, or they simply have less time to sweat the small stuff. Another pro was that they got to do it all again. Sometimes Ray found himself absent-mindedly staring at his children and wondering how they got so big. He did miss the days of cuddling a newborn on the sofa or carrying a baby in a sling.
Having another child would allow them to experience all of that again.
From the wonder of pregnancy, the birth, the overload of oxytocin and those cuddles with a beautiful squishy newborn, Ray and Maya be able to enjoy the wonder of new parenthood again. The other reason for having another baby was they would have more visitors in the nursing home. This one was a joke, sort of. But having more children allowed the burden of caring for elderly parents to be spread out. That was probably why Maya's mother had so many children in the first place.
"WHAT?! ARE YOU INSANE?!" Maya suddenly cried out in horror, shocking her husband. "I don't want another baby! That would be like saying no thanks to the parol board and asking for another eighteen years." She laughed as she threw her jacket into the closet.
"B-B-But you said that you wanted another baby?!" Ray stuttered in shock as he tried to process what was happening. One minute Maya was all but demanding he knocked her up, yet when he finally agreed to be a father again, she reacted in horror and disgust.
"Yeah, yeah, I know I did, but I was just in a funk, it's over now." She shrugged. "Listen, while at the school and ran into an old friend in the parking lot, and long story short, we're going to be playing bridge together on Mondays." She smiled in joy and Ray's shoulders slumped in relief. His relief soon faded and a smirk spread across his face.
"So maybe this is a good time for us to get reacquainted?" He purred as he pulled her close and gave her a long kiss.
"Sounds good to me." She snickered as they started making out and walking to their bed. But as they were getting down to business, Ray suddenly stopped them, much to Maya's confusion.
"Don't you think we need to take some precautions?" He asked and Maya nodded, but her eyes widened when she realized something.
"Oh crap, I threw away all my precautions!" She exclaimed, facepalming at her stupidity.
"That's fine, I got some." He replied and made to grab the condoms in the bedside drawers, but Maya shook her head.
"...I kinda threw them away too." She admitted sheepishly and Ray groaned as the mood started to die again. "You think maybe the kids have some?" She suddenly suggested and Ray paled in horror at the thought of asking his teenage children for birth control.
"I'm just gonna go to the drugstore." He replied before taking off like a bat out of hell...
