Tails has cried a lot lately. Maybe it was a warning to what happened. Maybe it's how she is. She remembers Mr. Swallow, a lot, and very fondly. He taught her everything she knew. Now, he met her daughter, after everything. She didn't even know he had a daughter. Tails always thought that in a way she was his daughter. But that didn't matter now. She was too sad and tired to even think. Tails goes to bed, thinking about the day he died. It was an accident that she still blames herself for. She hates this. Tails wished she could help herself or Wave or both of them. But right now, she can't and she doesn't think she ever will.
Wave never meant to hurt her. It's too many emotions. Her Dad left her early in life and when her Mom died, there was no one to take care of her. She misses him but hates him more. It doesn't help that Tails seemingly had such an emotional reaction when saying his title. Is that what he did, get another daughter to replace her? She doesn't know and that's the problem. She never knows, she knows absolutely nothing about him. Wave can't even remember what he looks like, she tried to block out her lineage, but it never seems to work. She cries all the way home. Then she cries in her bed until she falls asleep.
Wave and Tails have been unable to reconcile their emotions. Staying in their rooms for days over the sadness. They don't like it, but they can't stop feeling sad. Until Wave decides to do something about it. Taking the plane and heading out to find the Babylon rogues to have a talk with Tails. She finds the airship surprisingly easily. Parked on the ground in the middle of a desert dry place. She goes up and knocks on the door. To be met with Jet, who looks sad.
"She doesn't want to talk, sorry" Jet knows what she's here for
"Don't care, we're talking."
Wave walks past Jet, who attempts to warn her again, but she pushes him away and goes to Tails' room. She knocks on the door.
"Go away."
Wave knocks again.
"Go away."
Wave knocks again.
"I said go away!"
Wave pauses then knocks again.
"I'm not in the mood, Jet."
"It's me, Wave." That catches Tails attention, she stops in her tracks.
Tails comes out from under her blanket and opens the door, to see, as promised, Wave. Who's staring down at her back. Tails turns away in embarrassment. Wave looks around Tails' room to see that it's a mess. Obviously but it still looks horrible, but Wave doesn't look away.
"I think we need to talk." Wave states, Tails turns to her, then turns back to think. She thinks for a while, Wave keeps standing there. Waiting for any potential response.
"Okay." Tails mutters out and ushers Wave into the room, Jet looks surprised but doesn't say anything. The door shuts. Tails shoves some stuff out of the way to make room for Wave, who sits down. Tails sits across from her, on her bed. The two get into comfortable positions before looking back at each other. The two sit in silence for a bit before Wave sighs. Tails looks at her. Wave starts, Tails reconizes that.
"Guess I'll start." Wave says, Tails gives her an undefined look.
"I never really knew him, all I knew is that he left and then My Mom died and then I met Sonic. I only knew of him due to his connection to the Babylon rogues, which my Mom would use to curse you all for taking him away from us, but that's it." Wave says.
Tails looks away in embarrassment, Wave keeps staring a neutral stare at Tails, eventually the fox gives in and begins to speak. Not being able to take the stare any longer.
"He taught me everything I knew. I didn't even know he had a daughter. I am who I am today because of him. Without him I would barely even know who I was. I'm sorry, I never even knew you existed until now." Tails turns away again, Wave looks up to the ceiling to think everything through. Her Dad, Her Mom, Tails, herself and everyone else. She eventually decides on something, she decides to cry.
She begins to cry. Letting the tears leak out. Tails looks at her. Wave is laughing. She smiles in between her tears. Simultaneously laughing and crying tears of anguish and happiness. Everything finally hits her. Tails looks confused at her. Wave wipes her tears away and smiles at Tails. She gets up, goes to her and gives her a hug. Catching Tails off guard. But Tails accepts after a bit.
"I just want you to know, I hold nothing against you." Hearing that, Tails breaks into tears. A lot sadder than Wave but letting it all out while Wave continues to hug her. Tails cries a lot. But eventually she lets up.
"Thank you." Tails looks up to her.
"You're Welcome." Wave says.
As Tails wipes her tears away, Wave looks around for the correct words to say.
"So…" Tails looks at her.
"No hard feelings?" Wave takes her hand out. Tails smiles and shakes it.
"No hard feelings." Tails repeats back.
Wave leaves, Jet thanks her and she goes back home, where Sonic is waiting for her at her kitchen table.
"How did it go?" He asks
"Pretty good." She says, then pours herself a cup of coffee to formally start her day, after all of that. She and Sonic talk, before she goes back to her work.
Tails takes a bit longer to recover. After cleaning her room up, she mainly hangs around the airship for a few days. Occasionally talking to Jet or Storm. Eventually, with some encouragement from Jet, she goes outside. Walking around. Seeing anything she can. She takes in the air and walks. Sometimes flies but mainly walks. That's it, she ends up enjoying it a lot. Eventually she forgets, only the conversation between her and Wave remains in her mind.
