Chapter 74: The Killer Fist of Talos, Part Two
"Tadashi-san!" Shinobu tried to rouse Hanyu awake.
Just then, Yamagata Tokuichi has also arrived at the accident site.
"What?" Professor Agasa gaped. "It wasn't an accident?"
"No," Conan confirmed. "Judging by the wound on his head, it's hard to imagine this was an accident."
"Which means the culprit is still..." Yamagata realized.
"Somewhere around here." Ran finished the sentence.
"What's going on?" Kagami Eizo had also arrived at the incident site. "Hanyu!" he recognized the victim.
"What's happening?" the studio's head of security, too had arrived.
"He's still breathing." Professor Agasa related. "We've already called for an ambulance. More importantly..."
"It's likely the culprit is still lurking nearby." Yamagata interjected. "Search the area."
"The culprit might have a weapon." Professor Agasa cautioned before the security guard headed out. "Be careful."
"What is this?" Shinobu swiped up some silver dust from the side of Hanyu's head. "I found this on my hand." she showed it to Professor Agasa. "I think it was next to Tadashi-san's head injury."
"I recognize that color." Professor Agasa remarked.
"Isn't that the color of Talos?" Ran piped in.
"Could it be..." Professor Agasa gasped and the group turned to the oversized titan. "Did those fists strike Hanyu-san?"
"That's impossible." Kagami objected. "Talos has no legs. He couldn't do that."
"We didn't find any suspicious persons inside the dome." the security guards reported back. "Just figures and models that fell when the power went out."
"Could they have entered through a window or vent?" Kagami inquired.
"There are no signs of that, either." the security guard answered. "We're checking the security camera footage right now, but we haven't found any suspicious persons."
"Then, who hit Hanyu?" Kagami questioned.
Later...
"So the culprit took advantage of the opportunity to escape." Inspector Megure concluded, once his team was called and Hanyu was taken to hospital.
"But we ran here as soon as we heard him scream." Professor Agasa pointed out. "I don't think they have the time to do that."
"Either way, this had to be the work of someone intimately familiar with the facility." Inspector Megure noted.
"Hey, President." Conan voiced. "How many controls are there that controls the dome's facilities?"
"There are two." Kagami answered. "Yamagata and the tour guide Shinobu each have one."
"Yamagata-san, do you have your remote with you right now?" Conan turned to the designer.
"You must mean this." Yamagata pulled out the remote control from his coat.
"Can you differentiate it from the other remote?" Conan pressed.
"No, they're both the same shape." Yamagata answered.
"We'll start by asking everyone their alibi." Inspector Megure cut in. "President Kagami, what were you doing?"
"Looking for something, Conan?" Fumio asked, the children having followed Conan to the grass plains on the dome's floor.
"Good timing." Conan grinned. "Could you split up and look for a remote? You can stay within a ten meter radius."
"Got it, Captain." Fumio saluted.
"We'll begin thoroughly searching the entire studio for the culprit." Inspector Megure informed the gathered security guards.
"There's no need for that." Professor Agasa cut in. "I know who did it. There are two remotes that control the dome's facilities. Isn't that right, President Kagami? And one of them was used during the crime. The power came back on immediately after it was shut off, but..."
"During that moment, all the models floating in the air fell." using his voice-changing bow-tie, Conan took over. "But one of them behaved unnaturally: the floating boat. When the power goes out, the no longer suspended swinging boat should fall to its lowest point. However, the floating boat is over there." the group returned back to the dome. "In a different position from the one it was before the attack."
"How did that happen?" Inspector Megure asked.
"I was the first to notice." Conan piped in. "I was looking through the photos Ayumi took. See?" she showed the Inspector the related photograph. "This was the floating boat's final position during our tour, and now it's over there after the attack."
"Yamagata-san, do you know anything about it?" Professor Agasa turned to the designer.
"Or maybe Hanyu-san had a remote during the attack." Conan suggested.
"As the last to arrive, wouldn't you have the opportunity to retrieve the remote while we were distracted by discovering the injured Hanyu-san?" Professor Agasa pressed.
"I don't know anything." Yamagata denied.
"Yamagata-san, won't you the one who overheard my conversation with Kagami in his office?" Professor Agasa asked.
"Then, you should hate me." Kagami turned to his employee. "Why did you attack Hanyu?"
"That's right." Yamagata shook Kagami off. "You were my target. I tried to set a trap for you. I left your a note. I wasn't expecting Hanyu to be there."
"I finally get it now." Professor Agasa sighed. "Hanyu wanted to present your new product to the Suzuki Conglomerate as a gift, without realizing that it was a trap."
