Chapter 79: The Cost of Likes, Part Two

"It's you kids." Kagura opened his door to find the Detective Boys outside his doorstep.

"We need to talk." Genta voiced.

"I don't know what it's about, but we can talk on the way." Kagura stepped out of his apartment. "My payday was yesterday, but I never withdrew the money because of the commotion."

"Murdered?" Kagura echoed after he was informed of Otsubo's death. "Otsubo was?"

"You already know about that, don't you?" Genta accused.

"Why would I?" Kagura inquired.

"By the way, Kagura," Conan cut in. "Didn't you previously tell your acting company that you hoped to suffer collateral damage again so you'd receive more money?"

"Who said that?" Kagura scoffed. "I've never said anything so audacious."

"That felt a little strange." Haibara noted after Kagura walked into the bank.

"He doesn't seem to be lying." Ayumi agreed.

"You're sure he said 'another tasty dream', right?" Conan asked.

"Kagura clearly said it, right?" Mitsuhiko pressed Dewa Chiichiro, the owner of the Chonenten cafe.

"That's what I heard." Dewa replied.

"You didn't hear it directly from Kagura?" Mitsuhiko was surprised.

"Not directly." Dewa answered. "I heard it from him." he turned to A-Otoko who had entered the cafe. "Didn't Kagura say he hoped to suffer more collateral damage so he' get paid again?"

"Apparently." A-Otoko took a seat at the counter.

"So you heard, apparently." Haibara concluded. "It's all starting to sound suspicious."

"Then who told you?" Conan asked.

"Kochiyama." A-Otoko replied.

"She's a witness, too." Mitsuhiko piped in, when B-Ko entered the cafe. "Didn't you say yesterday that Kagura hoped to suffer more collateral damage?"

"That's what I heard from Kochiyama." B-Ko replied.

"Sound like Kochiyama is the source of everything." Fumio mused.

"That might've been a lie." Dewa suddenly remembered. "Kochiyama might have spread the rumor on purpose. If Haruka thought Kagura is a good-for-nothing, she might go to him instead."

"Looks like the relationship between the three of them isn't just merely best friends anymore." Fumio noted.

"Wait!" Conan burst into Kagura's apartment with Takagi, Chiba and the Detective Boys in tow, just as Kochiyama and Kagura were about to make a toast.

"Police." Takagi flashed his badge. "We're coming in."

"I don't think you should be drinking while you're injured." Conan advised. "Or," he swapped the two glasses of beer around. "Would you care to drink like this instead, Kagura, Kochiyama? It wasn't a coincidence that Kagura suffered collateral damage yesterday. He was set up by the culprit. Isn't that right, Kochiyama?" he cast a look at Kochiyama.

"What do you mean?" Kagura was confused.

"Yesterday, the 25th, was your payday." Conan continued. "You were sure to go to that bank to withdraw that money. And since you're friends, naturally Kochiyama knew that. He disguised himself as a cleaning person and waited for you to arrive. Just when you arrived in front of the bank..."

"Why would Kochiyama do that?" Kagura asked.

"Kagura, half a month ago, you received monetary compensation when you were injured by an un-exploded bomb, right?" Conan stated. "You got a taste for that money, so you caused the panic yourself and pretended to be a victim in order to receive more money: that's what he wanted people to think."

"I didn't do anything like that." Kochiyama protested.

"You even dropped hint in advance to his friends." Conan pressed on. "To everyone. He put another plan in motion yesterday. He didn't make this post to earn 'likes'." he showed Kagura the blog. "But rather to frame you as the culprit. Kochiyama's comment posed under the handle Tanuki Ponkichi empathizes that 'it is hard to imagine it was a coincidence that you experienced two incidents in half a month'. But if he just wanted to frame you, then he'll leave clues pointing to you."

"But there won't any." Takagi confirmed.

"Why?" Conan questioned. "Because leaving evidence would cause the police to arrest Kagura, preventing him from reaching his ultimate goal, right? And you meant to try for that goal last night, didn't you? But it didn't go as planned when Otsubo arrived. His life's purpose was earning 'likes' on interesting posts. He was secretly following you for potential material since you're so unlucky. Otsubo also viewed Tanuki Ponkichi as his rival, because he kept making interesting posts. When that man appeared before him, Otsubo decided to follow Kochiyama instead. He hoped to stumble upon interesting material if he did. But something made Otsubo realize that you were the one who made the bomb threat, so you silenced him. Shocked by the murder, you canceled your plans for last night. Today, you anonymously called the police so you could reach your ultimate goal. You were vague so the police won't arrive immediately. In other words, this was the story you came up with; you planned to act as thought he killed himself out of desperation."

"But why?" Kagura demanded.

"Probably of Ibe Haruka." Conan answered.

"She has nothing to do with this." Kochiyama snapped.

"Based on your reaction, it sounds that he is right." Haibara voiced.

"Haruka told us," Conan continued. "The three of you are very close, but there's nothing romantic about your relationship. But perhaps it's different for Kochiyama."

"You had feelings for Haruka?" Kagura realized.

"While having fun together, Kochiyama secretly desired to make Haruka his own and for you to disappear." Conan added. "But the police will investigate if he merely murdered you, so he thought to make it look like suicide. Otsubo probably didn't know about the plan, but he wanted to frame you for it, too. He went as far as to kill a person to strengthen your motive for suicide. But everything I said is pure speculation. There's no evidence."

"If we find poison in the glass Kagura was meant to drink from, the police will begin their investigation into this attempted murder." Takagi stepped forward.

"The boy's right." Kochiyama admitted. "Apparently Otsubo saw me; saw a cleaning person making a phone call."
