Chapter 134: Takagi and Date and the Notebook Promise, Part Two

It's nearly time. Conan took a look at his wristwatch, the group having taken up their places in accordance to his plan.

True to be told, a car stopped in front of Cafe Poirot and Alain raised his head from the back seat.

After confirming his contact, the kidnapper sent a message to the Game Master7, which Amuro affirmed the received message.

Outside Cafe Poirot...

Following Conan's plan, Amuro left the cafe with Takagi exiting shortly after.

Assuming the coast was clear, the kidnapper left the car.

"Hey." Sato greeted the kidnapper. "Could I ask you a few questions?" she flashed her detective identification badge. "Pepper spray." she hissed, the kidnapper sprayed her with the bottle of pepper spray he had with him and fled. "Conan-kun, get the boy." she went after the kidnapper. "He seems to be alone in the car."

"That must've been scary." Haibara noted, the Detective Boys seeing Alain let out a loud wail.

"Has someone besides you been kidnapped?" Conan suddenly asked, Amuro and Takagi having returned.

"Yeah." Alain nodded.

"Sorry, everyone." Sato came back. "The kidnapper disappeared into a crowd. But it looks like Alain-kun is okay."

"Actually..." Conan started.

Inside Cafe Poirot...

"Someone else was kidnapped?" Sato echoed. "In addition to this boy?"

"Alain-kun was kidnapped while playing in the park." Conan reminded. "Did you ever find the kid Alain-kun was playing with?"

"We talked to all of Alain-kun's school friends but we couldn't find anyone it could've been." Takagi replied.

"So, the reason Alain-kun didn't escape despite not being tied up was because the kidnapper threatened to hurt that friend if he ran away." Fumio realized where Conan's thinking had gone.

"Then, why haven't their parents said anything when their child never came home?" Sato wondered.

"Yuji transferred schools." Alain spoke. "But he came back to return my ballon de foot, so we played in the park for a little."

"It's French for 'soccer ball'." Fumio translated.

"If Yuji-kun transferred to a school in an area accessible by train or bus like Chiba or Saitama and was kidnapped when he came to return Alain-kun's ball without telling his parents, then Yuji-kun would've been reported missing in that area and his disappearance would be considered unrelated to the kidnapping." Amuro surmised.

"Alain-kun, do you know where you were being held until now?" Takagi inquired.

"I don't know." Alain shook his head.

"Then, do you remember the route you took to get here?" Sato asked.

"He told me to lie down in the back seat until we got here." Alain answered. "I couldn't see out of the window. But, I heard the radio. They were talking about the roads when we left and we arrived."

"Was it the Nichiuri Radio's traffic report?" Conan inquired.

"Oui." Alain nodded.

"Since they arrived during the 11:58 report, he must've heard the 11:28 report when they left." Conan pondered.

"They were in the car for 30 minutes." Amuro took over.

"Somewhere 30 minutes by car from here..." Takagi frowned.

"Yuji-kun is being held captive." Sato added.

"We could probably get more information from Alain-kun." Conan concluded. "But Yuji-kun will be in danger if the culprit returns to where he's being held. Detective Sato, Detective Takagi, Amuro-san, could you split up and drive in three different directions? In the meantime, we'll question Alain-kun for more details. Alain-kun, what was the place were you and Yuji-kun were being held like?" he asked the younger Cassel son, having put the three adults in a group call. Was it a house or more like a warehouse?"

"There were lots of rooms and people." Alain replied. "There was an asecenseur."

"That's French for 'elevator'." Fumio, once again, played translator. "If there were lots of rooms and people, then it's either an apartment building or housing complex."

"We took the asecenseur when we went out, but it was always strange." Alain revealed. "If someone was inside when the doors opened, they'd always say 'going up'. He'd lie about forgetting something at home and we'd get in. Once we went up and the doors opened, if someone was getting on, they'd always ask 'Aren't you getting off?' Then he'd lie about making a mistake."

"Most likely the kidnapper is making it more difficult for Alain-kun to identify which floor they started on." Fumio concluded. "To prevent Alain-kun from figuring out which floor he was being held in, the culprit ascended to the top floor before descending to the ground floor before exiting the building."

"Did he do the same thing when you returned?" Haibara asked.

"Oui." Alain nodded.

"Did you ever see the floor button he pressed?" Conan continued.

"He told me not to watch, but I saw the top floor was cinq." Alain shook his head.

"The fifth floor." Fumio frowned.

"Excluding the first and top floors, in a five-story building, that would put you on the fourth, third or second floor." Conan's brain started churning.

"Did you see anything from the window?" Haibara inquired.

"The windows didn't open, but I could see the morning and evening soleil." Alain answered. "There was also a building with a pool on the roof. It was always full of swimming children."

"If you can see the morning and evening sun, you're most likely in a corner room." Fumio mused.

"And the children were swimming in an elementary rooftop pool." Conan added. "Since you saw them swimming, you were probably held on the fourth floor. In other words, Yuji-kun is being held in a fourth-floor corner room of a five-story housing complex or apartment building next to an elementary school with a rooftop pool."

"And... that doesn't really narrow it down." Fumio pointed out. "We need something more unique."

"Did you see any strange buildings or something similar from the room?" Conan turned to Alain.

"Non." Alain shook his head.

"How about when you were getting into the car?" Fumio pressed.

"The parking was underground." Alain replied.

"Could you see anything when you left the parking lot and came above ground?" Mitsuhiko inquired.

"Non." Alain answered. "I was told to lie down as soon as we got in."

"Then, all you could see was the sky." Fumio was disappointed.

"Whenever we left, I could see the sky and a marron silo." Alain got excited.

"In French, marron means 'brown'." Fumio translated.

"And silo probably means these structures used to store pasturage." Haibara showed the group the picture she dug out on her smartphone.

"If you stuck a flag on top, it'd look just like a castle." Mitsuhiko noted.

"Flag..." Alain started recalling. "There was a rouge flag."

"There's a red flag on the structure?" Fumio asked.

"There was a croissant on it." Alain nodded.

"A red flag with a crescent..." Fumio muttered. "Conan, could it..."

"Alain-kun, was the flag you saw the national flag of Turkey?" Conan showed Alain the Turkish flag on his smartphone.

"Oui." Alain beamed.

"It's probably a Turkish restaurant." Fumio was already searching the online map. "Found it; a restaurant called Guzel in Toriya City."

"Fumio-kun, could you give Takagi-kun the restaurant's address?" Sato requested.

"Detective Takagi, it's next to a restaurant called Guzel at Toriya City, third street, lot number one." Fumio informed.

In the taxi...

Takagi had the driver take him to the address as Amuro and Sato convened on the location.

Inside Cafe Poirot...

"Detective Takagi, Fumio's compared Alain-kun's story against a local map." Conan reported. "We think he's being held in a room at the south end of the fourth floor at Shiromino Apartments in Toriya City, lot number two."

At Shiromino Apartments...

Takagi managed to stop the kidnapper from taking Yuji away and revealed to the kidnapper that his boss, Kidou Natsufusa, had died a year earlier.
