Chapter 141: The Moving Police Box
Time passes...
"Hello, everyone." Aoshima Kanon announced into the microphone. "Thank you for coming to today's presentation on the mobile police program, which has begun operating in Beika City. I'm your MC for today., Beika City's local idol and member of Maryebone, Aoshima. Helping me are," she turned to the side of the stage and Genta, Mitsuhiko and Ayumi presented themselves. "Anyway, let's welcome the star of today's event." she continued.
As if on cue, a mobile police box drove in.
"We're going to tell you all about this mobile police box." Ayumi declared.
"It's a police box that moves." Genta added.
"It travels to all kinds of places to perform police box duties." Mitsuhiko explained, the policeman who was driving the mobile police box opened the van's doors to reveal the interior of the vehicle.
"There's even a table and seats inside." Genta stated.
"Those kids sure are excited." Haibara remarked, she, Conan and Fumio were standing on the sidelines.
But in contrast..." Fumio moaned, the trio turned to Mouri who was ogling at Aoshima.
"Ojii-san, it's almost time to pick up Ran-nee-chan." Conan reminded.
"I guess I'll get going." Mouri looked at his wristwatch.
"Keep an eye on things for me." Conan requested and ran off.
"Sure, Leader." Fumio saluted.
On the road later...
"Anyway, it's weird to see a police box driving around." Genta noted, the Detective Boys were on their way to their next destination in the mobile police box.
"Our next stop is a shopping mall." Aoshima informed the kids. "We'll be counting on you."
After the mobile police box. Turned the corner around the Timeless Time watch shop, the driver was forced to step on the brakes when a cloaked Ishida Hiroki stopped the vehicle.
"Kanon-nee-chan." the kids yelled in shocked when Ishida opened the back door and took Aoshima hostage at knife-point.
"Hand over your gun." Kuroki Tetsuya demanded, holding the police officer in the passenger seat in a chokehold.
"Put all your belongings on the table." Ishida ordered the kids.
Just then, an alarm rang from the Timeless Time watch shop.
"Urgent message from MPD to all stations." the police announcement came onto the radio. "We've received an emergency signal from Timeless Time, a luxury watch shop in Beika City on 5th street."
"Are you the ones they're talking about on the radio?" Mitsuhiko realized.
"Now that you know, don't make any trouble." Kuroki grinned.
With everyone now held hostage, Haibara sent a SOS message to Conan via her Detective Boys Badge.
After the driver of the mobile police box were forced into a multi-story carpark...
The hostages were hurdled outside and blindfolded.
"Guys, are you alright?" using the paintball splatters Haibara left on the road, Conan managed to locate everyone.
"We're alright." Mitsuhiko replied, Conan having untied his blindfold.
"Kanon-nee-chan was shot by the culprits." Genta informed.
"Fumio, call an ambulance and the police." Conan instructed.
"Got it." Fumio caught his smartphone Conan tossed at him.
"Where's the mobile police box?" Conan asked, freeing the two police officers.
"Gone." the officer whose uniform was stolen replied.
"It sounded like they were doing something before they dropped us off." the driver stated.
"Doing something?" Conan looked around and saw a pile hidden under a blue covering. "What's this?" he gasped.
"You kids have been through a lot, too." Takagi arrived to the scene after Aoshima and the injured officer were taken to hospital. "I hate to bother you, but could you take a look at these images?"
"Isn't this the robber?" Genta exclaimed, recognizing Ishida's eyes.
"I thought so." Takagi confirmed.
"So, they cased the shop beforehand." Mouri reasoned.
"The total losses are nearly 200 million." Takagi stated.
"I feel like I've seen that man before." Mouri wondered.
"Maybe this is him." Conan pulled out a photo of Ishida on his smartphone.
"I'll get confirmation right away." Takagi went to work. "I've already put up an APB on the mobile police box."
"Detective Takagi, about that..." Conan voiced and led everyone to the items underneath the blue sheet. "Backing paper for wrapping sheets and a squeegee for applying the wrapping. I think they've turned it into another car using wrapping sheets."
In Mouri's car later...
"The culprits are dead?" the kids exclaimed in shock after Mouri informed them about Ishida and Kuroki's demise.
"Then, what about the stolen watches?" Genta asked.
"They haven't found them, so they must be hidden somewhere." Mouri replied. "Could you answer this?" he handed Haibara his vibrating phone.
"Detective Takagi, how can I help you?" Haibara took the call.
In a warehouse at the docks later in the evening...
"Don't move." Mouri barked, entering the warehouse after the ringleader. "You've the thieves' ringleader, Rindo, aren't you? I told you kids to wait in the car." he scolded the Detective Boys. "What are you doing here?" he turned to Aoshima.
"Mouri, what's going on?" Takagi also came to the scene.
"You called me to say Rindo would be..." Mouri started, Conan immediately tranquilized the older detective before he could finish his sentence.
"Aoshima Kanon-san," Conan took on Mouri's voice. "You signed up for an online community for watch enthusiasts using the name 'Rindo', recruited Ishida Hiroki and Kuroki Tetsuya, and planned to rob a luxury watch store."
"You're lying!" Aoshima barked.
"Then, what's inside that backpack you're holding?" Conan questioned.
"Excuse me." Takagi took over, opening the backpack to reveal all the stolen watches. "These look like the stolen goods. Which means, this food truck is..."
"It's the mobile police box they wrapped in that parking garage to look like a food truck." Conan confirmed. "You instructed the thieves to wrap the mobile police box in that garage and flee to this abandoned warehouse. I don't know how you convinced them, but you had them leave the stolen goods in the mobile police box and flee in the getaway vehicle you prepared; the getaway vehicle you rigged with explosives. You're quite the calculating person. After being treated at the hospital, you headed straight here."
"You have no proof." Aoshima protested.
"Then, why did you choose today for your robbery?" Conan asked. Until yesterday, there was a museum-quality vintage watch at that shop. Because, you couldn't use the mobile police box until you acted today."
"I'm just a bystander who got caught up in this." Aoshima insisted.
"I knew something wasn't right." Conan admitted. "It may have been parked, but how was the mobile police box hijacked so easily? The only conceivable explanation is that someone unlocked the doors. And the only people inside the vehicle were the police officers, the children and you. In other words, you must've helped the thieves from inside the car."
