Well look who's once again changed his mind. So, I did a few calculations and worked out that at the speed I am going, it will take me 22 weeks to finish this arc. So, I'm going back to 3 chapters a week. However, I have learned my lesson from Kalos. If I feel myself beginning to burn out and lose interest, I will swap back to 2 a week until I have the drive again. Anyway, I'm in more of a writing mood today, so this chapter will hopefully be longer and better than the previous 2. Anyway, enough from me, let's get back to the story.
Chapter 54:
Great Eggspectations
One thing that puts Mac slightly on edge is the fact that Team Terra have yet to show up since he and Bonnie left Petalburg. He isn't exactly looking over his shoulder for him, but he's still a bit apprehensive about this. True, there's no more drone following them around, which means they'll be harder to find. But still, as they continue on their way, he's constantly at the ready for one of their traps to spring. But, a few days go by and nothing happens. So, he starts to hope that maybe they've finally given up. But of course, this isn't meant to be.
This morning, Bonnie is packing her things away while Max makes a few notes on his audio logs. As she's packing l, she accidentally knocks her bag over, causing the contents to come spilling out. She curses under her breath, then begins to repack them. As she does so, she spots something rolling away from her. Picking it up, at first she's confused by what it's doing in her bag. Then, she remembers and laughs her head off. Max hears her laughter and runs over to her. "What's so funny?" he asks. Too busy laughing to speak, Bonnie just holds up the thing that rolled out of her bag. Like her, he's confused as to where it came from. Then, he remembers, and suddenly finds himself laughing.
"Wait," he chuckles. "Is that...? Now way!" "It is," Bonnie laughs. "Clemont sighs birthday present to me!" In her hands is an incubator, with a brown and beige egg inside. Both of them are laughing at how they'd forgotten it was in there. "How did we forget!?" Max asks. "I don't know," she replies. "You'd think that a wannabe pokémon researcher and a pokémon trainer would remember something like this!" The two laugh a bit more, then begin figuring out the next question. Why hasn't the Egg hatched yet? The pair go over every inch of the incubator to try and work that out. After a few minutes if this, Max finally spots why. Its battery had run out. So, they finish up with packing their bags, then head off as fast as possible to the nearest Pokémon Centre or town to buy a battery.
After just over an hour of walking, they finally arrive at a Pokémon Centre. Bonnie rushes in and purchases a battery for her incubator. Then, she and Max carefully replace it. Much to their relief, the incubator powers up once more. The pair cheer and high five, then continue on their way. As they travel, Bonnie decides to carry the incubator in her hands, in case the egg hatches at some point during the day.
As they head through a small field, they suddenly notice the ground begin to shake. "What's going on?" Bonnie asks. "I thought your sister, Ash and Brendan had stopped the Tremors!?" "They have!" Max replies. "This isn't a Tremor. This is something else!" They look around, and notice that, while pokémon are also looking around worriedly, they aren't fleeing in panic like they did during Tremors. Either way, the pair decide that they should start running. But before they can get very far, the thing causing the shaking comes into view. It's a magnet, similar to the one Sarah and Sam attacked them with back in Kalos. However, with this one, the magnet is in front of the machine, like a bulldozer. Which means that dropping it onto the machine won't work this time. Looking into the cockpit, Max can see Sarah and Sam driving the machine towards them. Standing on the roof of the machine, or flying next to it, are all of their pokémon.
"Found you at last!" Sarah cries as they approach. "You may have successfully evaded us this far, but now we have caught you!" Sam nods in agreement. "So, there's no point in trying to escape!" Both Max and Bonnie stare at the machine, then immediately start roaring with laughter. Sarah and Sam's faces fall. "What's so funny!?" Sarah demands. "You do realise that my notebooks aren't metal right?" Max asks between giggles. Bonnie only laughs harder at this. At this, Sarah and Sam smirk. "Who said that this was for your notebooks?" Sam asks. Then, they activate the magnet. Immediately, various metallic items in their possession start to fly towards the magnet. Bonnie can feel the incubator begin to leave her hands, so she clings into it tighter. It doing so causes her to lose focus on her other items. With horror, she watches as her pokéballs fly from her belt and into the magnet.
Max scrambles as he tries to keep his balls from leaving, but has to stop when he feels his glasses leaving his face. He grabs onto them so that he doesn't go blind. Now all he can do is watch as his team flies away from his belt. Sarah and Sam laugh as the items go flying into the magnet. Now it makes sense why they had all of their Pokémon out. Once all of Max and Bonnie's team is attached the the magnet, Sarah and Sam switch it off and climb out of the cockpit. Their teams follow after them. "Now that you're defenceless, there's no point in resisting," says Sarah. "So, you may as well just give up!" Both Max and Bonnie look at each other, worry crossing their faces. Then, they face Sarah and Sam again, trying to think of a way out of this.
Dedenne seems to be one step ahead of them. While the rest of Bonnie's team got sucked away, he remains safe inside her bag. So, when they're caught in this trap, he leaps from the bag and charges at Team Terra, lightning coursing through his body. As he charges at them, he indicates to Max and Bonnie to run. "DEDENNE NOOOOOO!" Bonnie cries, but Max has already grabbed her hand and taken off down the field. Dedenne charges at Team Terra and shocks them both. As they cry out, Mr. Mime comes in and swats Dedenne away. Bonnie breaks away from Max and runs over to help him. As she does, the egg inside the incubator begins to glow.
Bonnie scrambles over to Dedenne and scoops him up. She places him onto her shoulder, then turns back to Max. As she does, she realises that her egg is about to hatch. She stops running and opens the incubator. The egg rolls out and glows brighter, then, the Pokémon comes out of it. Bonnie gasps and squeals with delight. An Eevee comes out of the egg, and looks around with confusion. Bonnie gets hearts in her eyes and immediately picks it up and cuddles it. While Sarah and Sam watch this scene, unsure of what to do now, Max takes the opportunity to sneak behind them and quickly grab their stuff. Sam turns around and sees him do this. "Hey!" He shouts. "Get back here!" Max immediately sends out Gallade and has him teleport them and their stuff back to Bonnie.
While he and Bonnie begin running away, Sarah and Sam make a mad dash for the magnet's controls to reactivate them. Eevee looks over Bonnie's shoulder and sees these two running towards the machine. She doesn't know why, but the human that's carrying her seems to be scared of them. She decides that this human must want to protect her. So, she wants to protect her too. So, she climbs onto Bonnie's shoulder, then readies her power. "EEVEEEEEEEEEE!" she cries, before launching a bunch of stars at the machine. Max gasps at this. "It used Swift!" he shouts. The stars crash into the machine before Sarah and Sam can get into the cockpit and blow it up. Sarah and Sam stare at it. Eevee cries out with pride, then starts wobbling on Bonnie's shoulder. Bonnie catches her in her arms, then takes off running after Max.
Meanwhile, Sarah and Sam stare at the smouldering ruins of their machine. They turn to look at the two children running away from them, and Sarah opens her mouth to call down to them. But before she can, the ruined machine sparks again, before exploding a second time. This second explosion causes her and Sam's Pokémon to fly into them, which sends all six of them flying into the air. Max and Bonnie watch as their enemies are sent flying away, then stop running, relieved that this disaster is over.
With Team Terra gone, they focus on the Eevee in Bonnie's arms. "Is it ok?" Bonnie asks. Max gives her a once over. "She's fine," he replies. "She's just tired. If you want to catch her, now would be a good time." Bonnie nods and grabs one of her pokéballs, then lifts Eevee's head so she can see it. "Hey Eevee," she says softly to the baby Pokémon. "I'm Bonnie. I carried your egg around in my bag. But now that you've hatched, wanna join my team officially?" Eevee looks at the ball, then at Bonnie. She nods her head tiredly, then taps the button on the ball. She disappears into the ball, and Bonnie cheers with delight. While she celebrates, Max goes ahead and finishes repacking their bags. He gathers up Bonnie's balls then hands them to her. Once all of the their balls are back on their belt, including her new Eevee, then the pair set off once more.
Anyone else remember that Bonnie had an egg from Clemont? Because I totally forgot until I reread the fic over my break. I've been planning on giving Bonnie an Eevee for a while, so I just used the egg to bring it in. This, my friends, is why you regularly check back on previous chapters. I hope I can say I learned my lesson, but I know myself well enough to not promise anything. Anyway, see you on Tuesday for the next chapter.
