Chapter 6
Jason treats everyone to breakfast at the Haven Bistro. Elizabeth heads to GH. Jason takes the boys to Pozzulo's. Sonny promised Aiden he'd have free reign to use his kitchen for baking experiments.
With Aiden in the kitchen, Jason shows Sonny the papers from Diane. "I've already signed this, severing ties with several of our businesses. Jake and Danny are here as witnesses. I want to emphasize I will not be your fixer anymore. You will need someone else as your number-one speed dial."
"Diane already told me the terms of the agreement. You have spent decades protecting my family; it's time for you to focus on yours."
Jake says, "What's your angle? It can't be that easy."
Sonny says, "No, it isn't easy, but it's what Jason wants. I've tried to leave before, and I've always returned. It will be difficult to walk away, but if your father is committed to putting you first, he will. Jason is one of the finest people I have known. I will do my best to honor his wishes." Sonny signs the form and heads to the kitchen to check Aiden's treats.
Danny walks to Sonny's vacant seat and reviews the paperwork. He hands it to Jake, who reads it. Jake hands it over to his father. He glares at Jason and says, "What's next? Telling the Five Families you are a legit businessman? Handing your guns to the PCPD? Will you be satisfied counting coffee beans or fixing people's bikes? Have you thought this through? When was the last time you had a semi-normal, boring life?"
"I guess I haven't thought about it that far in advance. Jake, I'll be honest; my leaving isn't that simple. I still have enemies, and they may want to challenge me. I'm not giving up my weapons. Your mother will need to prepare as well. I will protect our family, even if it means breaking the law. Your mother understands that is something I can never change. It will take time, but I believe I can be happy working in the warehouse and working on bikes. Regardless of the job, it would be worth it if I could spend more time with you and Danny. So, are you willing to give me a chance?"
Sonny and Aiden bring out the desserts and goods he baked. Jake and Danny help Aiden box up the items.
