Glory of God: The Real Story of 595

Chapter 6: Cake, Ice Cream and Gifts...Oh My!

1300hrs: Samantha walked up to Jack taking his hand as they watched Lucy chase her brother. Lucy despite being smaller was able to catch her brother as he started to fall. She took a flying leap tackling her brother to the ground tagging him then taking his place. "Lego...this isn't football!" JJ said getting up seeing his parents laughing at him. "...my party my rules JJ!" sticking her tongue out at him pigtails flopping around. The other kids laughed including his friends Steven and Phillip.

"Son, best advice I can give you is to tie your shoe laces.. Stepping on them is a good way to fall on your face." Jack told his son with a smirk. "Oh for crying out loud, shoe laces brought me down." JJ proclaimed causing more laughter. Samantha hugged her son still laughing. "Live and learn son, do better next time." Jack took the break in activity to get everyone's attention with a gleam in his eyes.

-Cake & Ice Cream-

"Hey kiddo's, what time do you think it is?" Jack asked clapping his hands together. "...Cake and Ice Cream time...then Lucy's presents!" the kids responded enthusiastically. "What do you want first Lucy?" her father asked motioning for everyone to stand up. "We want Cake and Ice cream daddy." Lucy replied jumping up and down happily running up to her mother. Sam picked up Lucy hefting her up. "Daddy, can I have Thor back?" she asked reaching for her plushy alien. "I don't know. The two of us are having an interesting conversation about star ships." Jack replied getting an odd look from Lucy. "Thor, you can talk about your ship later. It's time for cake and ice cream." She said as Jack handed over the little alien. Both Sam and Jack had a confused look wondering where their daughter got that idea.

Cassie and Jeff helped Daniel up after sitting Indian style for so long. "There's no doubt Lucy is his kid." Daniel said standing up. "Why is that Mr. Jackson?" Jeff asked brushing himself off. "They all love cake, including Aunt Sam, it's in the O'Neill DNA." Cassie answered as if it was obvious. "Indeed, the O'Neill's doesn't have a gathering without cake for desert." Teal'C added as he followed Daniel towards their seats.

Jeff and Cassie walked past Sara without noticing her. The whole base thought the two were dating. Now they couldn't deny it as she had pictures of them holding hands and kissing. The base rumor mill will be buzzing with excitement Monday. Sara and Leroy also took many photos along with video of the kids playing. Leroy had strategically placed himself near the food, sneaking finger food while doing his job. Sara noticed this but couldn't say anything at the moment. It wasn't the marines fault after all. He wanted to stop at Arby's but the line was too long. Sara was hungry as well; maybe she could grab a bit to eat once all the kids were busy eating cake and ice cream.

With all the kids and adults seated Jack looked around. Lucy was sitting amongst her friends happily waiting to blow out her candles. JJ and his friends were laughing about something about a cartoon. Daniel and his bunch were sitting at a table waiting patiently. Teal'C was talking with Lucy's teacher along with a few other parents, Mike being one of them. "You ready Jack, were going to have energetic kids running around in about 45 minutes." Sam asked holding the trick candles. "If we can deal with demanding politicians these kids will be a piece of cake." He replied making his wife giggle. Sam placed the bigger than usual candles on Lucy's cake making her smile. "Kids you start singing and the rest of us will join in." Jack said. The kids and adults sang 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' Lucy loud enough for the neighbors to hear through the woods.

Leroy got a perfect picture of Jack, Sam and Lucy as she blew out the candles. Then she tried two more times to get same result, the candles relit. "Daddy, your tricked me again!" she exclaimed giving her father the same look Sam did at times. "Not me Lego, who put the candles on your cake?" he asked smirking. "...Mommy, why you do that?" Lucy asked innocently. Ruffling her daughter's hair Sam laughed. "Your father isn't the only who can pull pranks on you." everyone had their laughs then waited for the birthday cake to be handed out. "Thor, you're about to have the best kind of cake ever...birthday cake!" Lucy told her best friend in her world.

With everyone happily eating ice cream and birthday cake, including Thor, both parents sat down to eat. Sara and Leroy were sitting too taking a break. Various conversations were happening all around. One in particular was happening out of earshot of the Lucy's parents. "Lucy's parents are nice, don't you think so Theodore?" Charlotte asked her husband as their daughter, Emma talked with Lucy. Her husband looked over where Jack and Sam were sitting laughing at something the Sandy haired man said. Something about Thor not being able to attend whoever 'Thor' was. "They are a pleasant couple however I expected General O'Neill to be more...proper given his position." Theodore replied honestly. Placing her hand on his Charlotte smiled. "Theo dear, you do remember that both Samantha and Jack aren't from an influential family like us." She said softly as not to be overheard. "Your right snockums, not everyone can be educated properly. Mr. O'Neill is good with children though, Emma enjoyed playing 'GRU SAYS' and Duck Duck Goose." Theo answered glad that the party only last 3 hours. He was a busy man after all, being a corporate lawyer that traveled a lot didn't afford much free time with the family. "Patricia will have a dreadful time getting those grass stains out of her dress if at all." Charlotte added watching her daughter play with a stuffed alien grey. "I wonder how the O'Neill's act in a serious situation?" Theodore asked without expecting answer. "They are two of the highest ranking officers in space Force. Jack probably dealt with life and death situations before becoming an officer, maybe his wife too." She added finishing her cake. "...somehow I don't see that. Lucy's mother is a scientist and engineer. Her father is defiantly a grunt that somehow slipped through...but I digress. They did choose a lovely day for the party." Theo said returning to his cake.

Elsewhere JJ and his friends were talking about the latest 'Call of Duty' Black Opts 4. "What level are you on JJ?" Steve asked excitedly. JJ wanted to lie about what level he was at. His buddy Phillip was on 10 and Steve on 9, much higher than him. Mom and Dad always told him that one lie requires another to cover the first lie and it snow balls from there. "I'm on level 5 only because my parents won't let me play the videos games more than an hour a day, 3 on the weekends." He said honestly.

"That stinks, why do they limit your time?" Phil asked looking over his shoulder at JJ parents. His father is way cool but that'd be a bummer not to play COD more than an hour. "Mom and Dad want me to play outside and read books, broaden my imagination." He answered honestly. "When you spend the night next time we'll play all night long, right Steve." Phillip said getting a high five from JJ. "Sounds like a plan then." Steve replied knowing it'd be a fun night. "Dad played it with me once but he got a blank look on his face and stopped." JJ said not wanting his friends thinking his parents weren't cool. "Why did your dad stop playing JJ?" Phillip asked not understanding. JJs father is a badass General in Space Force, a service Steve was interested in joining one day.

"Dad wouldn't say. Mom told me the game reminded Dad of when he was in Black opts, missions he didn't want to remember. She told me not to bring it up again." He answered shrugging his shoulders. "Your dad was in black opts, that's cool. I bet he tells good stories." Phillip replied wide eyed. "Don't say that too loud, Dad doesn't like to talk about those days, he told me a few stories though." JJ told his friends. "My dad is the same way, won't say much about his service either." Steve added in a low voice. "My dad was a helicopter pilot in the Army; tells me all kinds of stories about his service." Phillip said not understanding why his friend's parents would talk about their service. "We'll have fun playing the game though; eat pizza and drink Mt. Dew all night." Phillip said cheering his friends up.

"Your daddy is funny Lucy, lot funnier than mine." Emma said honestly. "Mommy calls daddy a man-child...I think that means his toys cost more. That's what Aunt Janet says." Lucy replied. "My daddy tells jokes to people and gets paid. He's in the garden state right now." Melissa added. "...is that where all our vegetables comes from Missy?" Emma asked never hearing of that state before. "The garden state is New Jersey, on the east coast. My parents took us to Pirates Cove (A/N1) last year after visiting the president." Lucy answered without thinking as she reached for her lemonade. Her friends all looked at her in surprise. "You met the president of our country at the White House?" Billy asked in awe. Lucy just nodded like it was nothing considering it wasn't the first time she was in the White House. "Wow Lucy, what was it like?" Emma asked wide eyed. Feeding that last bits of cake to Thor Lucy replied. "We had fun. His grandkids were there so we played 'hide and seek in the flower garden." The other kids were envious without knowing it. Melissa looked around not seeing any old people then at Lucy. "Where' are your grandparents Lucy, I don't see them." She asked not knowing better. "They are in heaven with God, JJ and me are going to release the balloons so they can have fun too." Lucy responded with a smile.

Felicia watched Teal'C walking up to the drink table she decided to take a chance. Her ex-husband had done her wrong and it still hurt. Maybe talking to Samantha's friend would help. Getting up she purposely bumped in the muscle bound soldier. "Oh, I'm sorry Murray. I didn't mean to bump into you, must of been distracted by the kids laughter." Felicia said looking up into his eyes as she was only 5'1". "It is I that should be apologizing Ms. Lexar. Please excuse my inattentiveness. May I get you another drink?" Teal'C asked sincerely. "That's thoughtful of you Murray; I'm drinking Diet Coke by the way." She replied following him up to the table. "You are welcome Ms. Lexar." Teal'C responded noticing her beauty but not letting on his interest. "You can call me Felicia, Ms Lexar is so formal for a birthday party...Murray." she said looking up at Teal'C smiling. "My parents raised me to be respectful of others; formality is my way of honoring them." He added handing her the Diet Coke. "We have much to discuss then...General Teal'C." Felicia replied with a huge smile looping her arm around his biceps.

"I was right, Teal'C caught Felicia's eye." Samantha said watching the two talks. "What are you talking about Sam?" asked Janet looking at the two adults by the drink table. "Lucy's teacher, Felicia asked me about Teal'C while he played Gru says." Her friend replied smiling. "She's laying the hints on thick. Think he knows that Felicia is flirting with him." Janet asked with a twinkle in her eyes.

"$20 dollars says he doesn't notice." Samantha wagered. "You got a bet, Lucy's teacher is giving Teal'C plenty of hints that's she is interested." Janet said making Jack and Daniel roll their eyes. "...and you women say were bad about making bets." Daniel added getting death glares from both women. "You got anything to say husband of mine." Sam asked Jack who was busy eating his third piece of cake. "...didn't hear a thing, I'm just eating my cake happily blissful to your conversation." He answered smartly.

"Good answer Jack...and that will be your last piece of cake, you're on a diet...remember!" Samantha told him causing the table to erupt in laughter. "Your physical is coming up in a couple of months, might want to lay off the cake general." Janet added waving her finger around smirking. "...does the term 'Chair Force' come to mind Jack?" Daniel asked laughing at his friend's predicament which was a rarity. "Oh, Daniel...I do believe your physical is due next month. Should I go ahead and schedule it with Cassie?" his wife asked enjoying tormenting the men. "Do you want me get a bigger shovel for you Space Monkey?" Jack asked getting no reply from his friend.

Teal'C sat down amongst the laughter looking at his friends, his family. "Did I miss a humorous moment O'Neill?" the big jaffa asked. "Depends on the definition of humor?" Jack answered finishing his cake. "Not knowing would be in your best interest Teal'C." Daniel added getting a kick in the shin from his wife. "Ms. Lexar invited me out for coffee? Should I accept even if I do not drink coffee?" He asked stoically. "That depends on if you found Felicia interesting Teal'C?" Janet asked digging for information. "Ms. Lexar is an educated woman. The conversation would be...intriguing." Teal'C answered. "Felicia is getting another degree in child psychology. She has year to go before getting it though." Sam added mentioning her education goals.

"Did she ask you anything else 'T'?" Jack asked curious knowing his friend wasn't oblivious to women flirting with him. "Ms. Lexar insisted I address her using her Christian name...Felicia." Both Sam and Janet smiled figuring each had won the bet. "I believe Lucy's teacher is interested in a romantic relationship based on her facial expressions and personnel inquiries." Teal'C said describing flirting in his own way causing Sam's expression to change.

"You aren't wrong Teal'C, she was flirting with you." Daniel confirmed getting a glare from Sam. Contemplating for a minute Teal'C looked at Sam. "Samantha O'Neill, with your permission I will accept Ms. Lexar's offer of coffee and...Flirtation advances." He asked making everyone at the table but Sam laugh. "...you don't need my permission Teal'C. You might want to drop the act though. Your secret is out." She said looking directly at Jack.

"Samantha O'Neill, appearing ignorant of women's mating rituals has attracted many a women. I believe Felicia Lexar to be a worthy choice. More information is needed though." Teal'C replied getting up holding back a smirk.

"I told you Sam, you can pay me later." Janet said smiling. Sam looked at Jack expectantly folding her hands on table. "Oh, look at the time? Daniel would you like to help me with Lucy's presents?" Jack asked getting up holding his empty plate. Daniel went to get up only for Sam to stop him cold with a look. "Daniel, I appreciate your willingness to help however your place right now is in the peanut gallery." Janet couldn't control her laughter anymore. "Laugh it up Janet, Teal'C had me completely folded. Maybe we should call him Don Won." Samantha said laughing herself.

"Jack, why didn't you inform me about Teal'C approach to women?" Sam asked looping her arm through his in mock innocence. "The bro code, besides I thought you'd figure it out before now." He answered honestly. "The bro code...meaning you won't tell his secrets." Jack answered smiling at his daughter as she waved at him. "...only under specific kinds of torture Samantha." He said smiling. "Needles it is then...go get JJ, I'll get Lucy." Sam told her husband kissing his cheek. "Not the kind I was thinking of Carter..." he replied getting a megawatt smile in return.

Sam approached Lucy and her friends enjoying themselves. They were all laughing at something her daughter said. "Hi mommy is it presents time?" she asked getting excited. "Indeed it is my beautiful daughter." Samantha replied as Jack tapped the microphone. "Hello my fellow party people. We've come to the prime time event that you've all been waiting for. How big a mess can my daughter make?" he said getting several laughs and cheers from the kids. "That's our cue Lucy; we'd better get up there before your dad starts telling jokes." Sam told her overly excited daughter. Hefting Lucy on her hip Sam walked up to the deck where the disaster zone would be. "There they are my lovely and intelligent wife and Lucy Grace O'Neill."

"Jacks really enjoying this birthday party, maybe more than Lucy?" Daniel commented out loud. "Jack's a proud father Daniel, he missed out with Charlie and we know how that ended." Janet replied looking at her husband. "I'm not saying Jack doesn't deserve this moment. Just that he's filled with Joy, a joy I hope we can have providing the adoption goes through." He responded placing his hand over hers. "We will Daniel; the lawyer told us it's just navigating through government red tape that takes so long." Janet added wiping away a tear.

Jack looked at Lucy sitting on a bar stool so everyone could see her. "Lucy, are you ready to make a mess with birthday wrapping paper and boxes?" he asked pretending to be a game show host. "Yes daddy, I'm ready to make a mess for JJ to clean up." She replied making everyone but her brother to laugh. Sam rolled her eyes letting the two of them have their fun. "Good answer Lego, Now if my lovely assistant aka wife will pick the first gift." Playing along Sam made a show of picking the first gift placing in on the table for Lucy to open. "This gift is from the Kaylee Foster, would you please stand up and wave at everyone." Jack said in his game show voice. JJ knowing his part waited patiently enjoying his dad's antics. "What did you get Lego?" Jack asked enthusiastically. "Daddy, Kaylee got me a 'Worm Hole Extreme coloring book" she exclaimed. "Wow, that's awesome. JJ, would you hold up the gift for everyone to see?" JJ did just that smiling the entire time.

The next gift Sam chose was some kind of toy judging from the feel of it. Wrapping paper fell to the deck quickly revealing a Barbie doll. "Look mommy, it's a Space Force Barbie. She looks just you too." Lucy said excitedly. "...and it's from our dear friends Janet and Daniel Jackson." They both stood up smiling and laughing. Sam rolled her eyes at the gift. Once the Star Gate program was revealed it wasn't long until they had an offer from Mattel to make action figures or this case a Space Force Barbie doll. Of which JJ proudly paraded around for all to see.

The fun continued with Lucy getting a space themed Lego set, a pink nerf gun and similar gifts. That is until Colonel Davis entered the back yard in his dress uniform looking straight at Jack with a serious expression (1340hrs). "Dad, your handler is here." JJ said tugging on his father's 'LEGO' dad t-shirt. Jack looked over at Col. Davis as did Sam and everyone else. The backyard got deathly quiet. Jack looked at Daniel gesturing with the microphone for him to come up to the porch. "Let's go see what Davis has for us this time." He said covering the microphone then walked off with Sam at his side like always. Daniel took the microphone going into mission mode. "No need to worry folks, we've all seen the movies where the general gets a visit from their aide. Well, it happens in real life too. However most of the time it's just something simple only the top dogs can decide on." Daniel told everyone knowing better. Whatever Davis was here for would likely involve the original SG-1. "Now where were we?" he asked adjusting his glassed. "Present's Uncle Daniel, you not forgetful as daddy." Lucy replied hands on her hips. "No he's not Lucy, he's just being silly." Janet said walking up brushing Lucy's hair. "Okay, next gift is from Evan..." He said bringing everyone's attention back to the party with his wife's help.
