PROMPT: Olympics

Olympics Part One

Anxiously, Rose waited for the results to come through. They were close, so fucking close and she could only hope and pray that her boyfriend had done enough. He'd spent years training, eating healthily. Years of early mornings and late nights at the pool. He was fucking committed to becoming the best, and any second now, he would find out if he was.

At first, when the time registered on the board, Rose couldn't comprehend it. But then the deafening roar of the crowd hit her ears, and she realised that Emmett had done it. He'd not only won the Olympic gold, but he'd also broke the Olympic record.

Hot, fat tears slid down her cheeks. She was pleased for him, so fucking pleased. But that didn't diminish the sadness she felt. Because this was it. For them. For her.

His coach, Jane, had made that perfectly clear to Rose that if Emmett won the gold, there would be no place for her in his life. At first, she'd argued. That he'd make time, that they'd survived this long. But then reality hit. He'd need to keep up with his training regime, maybe train harder to make sure he was at the top of his game. He'd be wanted for commercials and other advertisements, and universities would want to sponsor him; fans would flock to him when they saw him out and about. Any notion of a 'normal' life would be gone.

Whilst, Rose was perfectly fine with all of that, because she loved him, Jane had explained that she would become a distraction. She would stop him from reaching his potential. She would be everything she didn't want to be.

And the baby she was carrying would make Emmett want to give up his dream.

And Rose couldn't let that happen, not when Emmett had worked so hard.

So, tearfully, Rose slung her bag over her shoulder and left the swimming pool, slipping silently through the crowd and away from the love of her life. It was for the best. For Emmett.

Each step seemed to physically hurt until Rose was clutching at her chest, breathing heavily and rapidly blinking to clear her eyes of the tears.

Once she was outside, Rose slid to the floor, huge sobs leaving her body. Her hand came to rest on her stomach. Pulling out her phone, Rose sent the pre-written text to Emmett, the one explaining why they couldn't be together anymore. It was a whole load of bullshit, but Jane had assured her it was the kindest way to break up with him. Hopefully, the high of his gold medal would outweigh any pain he felt by their breakup.

"Miss? Are you alright?" a strange voice called out.

It was enough to get Rose up and moving again. "Ye-yeah, I'm fine," she assured them, moving quickly. She needed to get out of here. She had a long flight ahead of her.

Rose clutched at her stomach. This was the hardest thing she was ever going to do. But she would do it, for Emmett.

She wouldn't get in the way of his dreams. She wasn't worth it.

A bit more angsty than what I usually write! Hope you enjoyed!
