PROMPT: Olympics
Olympics Part Two
Four Years Later
Unseen, Rose stood off to the edge as Emmett celebrated yet another gold medal. He really was at the top of his game.
Alec winked at her. He was the only one who knew she was here.
As Emmett was pulled out of the pool, various people clamouring around him, Rose stepped out from the shadows, inching closer.
The second he laid eyes on her, she could tell. He was already wearing a massive grin from his win, but this grin? Well, it seemed to split his face in half. He quite literally ploughed through the crowd towards her, tugging off his swim cap and goggles as he went, arms outstretched.
She was crushed against his body, her face in his wet chest. "What are you doing here?" he mumbled against her head before pulling back. One hand stayed around her waist as the other went to the small body she was carrying.
"Hey, bud," Emmett greeted, stroking their son's cheek. At three, he already has a strong resemblance to Emmett and had inherited his laid back attitude too - hence the reason the screaming fans and flashing camera's hadn't bothered him in the slightest… and the ear defenders he was wearing.
"Daddy," Finn giggled, reaching up to grab at his father's jaw.
Emmett took him from Rose, holding him close and taking a deep breath. "What are you doing here?" he asked, his eyes filled with nothing but love.
"We wanted to surprise you."
"Well, consider me surprised," Emmett said with a smile on his face.
They'd gone through a hell of a lot to get here.
After Rose had left the last Olympics with a broken heart, she had returned home to her foster parents, crying all the way on the plane and then falling into Carmen's arms.
The following week had been horrific. Morning sickness plus seeing Emmett's name everywhere she looked made her feel unwell all the time, guilt rolling around her stomach like a led balloon.
Then, exactly one week after she had walked away from Emmett, he was on her front doorstep.
"I know about the baby, and I also know what Jane said to you," had been the first things out of his mouth.
Rose had stood there, unable to say anything, shock taking over her system. He was here? He knew about the baby? He knew about Jane?
"Wh-what?" had been all Rose managed to stammer out.
"Edward overheard you and Jane talking. He told me after I got my medal. Your text made sense then." A sad smile crossed his face. "I've spent the last week making sure that Jane can't do anything to us and getting myself a new manager." He scrubbed the back of his head with his hand. "None of what Jane said was true. You and I having a baby won't ruin my chances. And even they did, I wouldn't care. Because you're all that matters to me, Rosie. Just you… and well, now our baby. I'd give it up for the two of you."
"But I don't want you to," Rose said, stepping closer to him. "You shouldn't have to give up on your dream."
"My dream isn't worth shit if you're not with me," Emmett told her, caressing her face with his large hand.
Rose leaned into it, luxuriating in the warmth radiating from him. "I don't want you to regret anything," she said quietly, emotions coursing through her. She didn't want him to resent her.
"The only thing I regret is hiring Jane as a manager," Emmett said, his voice full of conviction.
Rose searched Emmett's face, making sure he wasn't lying. That he wasn't trying to be noble or do the right thing by standing by her - it was just the type of thing he'd do.
"I love you, Rosie. And I want to have a life with you."
Biting her lip, and taking a chance, Rose nodded. "I want that too."
"Good, because I just flew for six hours with a screaming toddler in my ear." He grinned at her. "But I'd do it all again for you."
Unable to resist any more, Rose leaned in, pressing her lips against Emmett's. She'd felt so fucking foolish listening to Jane.
After that, Rose would like to say things got easier… but they didn't. She and Emmett struggled to find a balance with Emmett either missing training or missing pre-natal appointments. On top of that, they couldn't agree on where to live. Rose wanted to stay close to her family, whereas Emmett wanted to be closer to somewhere with good training facilities. Then, Jane had started a personal vendetta against Rose. She told the press that the baby wasn't Emmett's, that Rose had gotten pregnant by several other men, even going so far as to name Edward as one of them. When Emmett was competing in a race and hadn't done too well, Jane had stated it was because Rose was preventing him from training. They'd almost broke up over that one; once again, Rose had believed the vile that came out of her mouth. Even though Emmett had tried to cover all the bases, Jane's maliciousness was still creeping through. Until she was caught trying to sneak into Rose's foster home. That had finally put an end to all their problems. Well… all of their Jane related issues anyway.
They still had problems. That's when they'd gone to therapy. It had been an eye-opening experience for both of them, and ultimately, they'd come out of the other side stronger than ever. Emmett had learnt how to balance his life. They were fortunate enough to buy two houses, one where they would live when Emmett's training was intense and the other close to Rose's family. And Rose had realised that her years in foster care before Carmen had taken her in had taken a toll on her. Her self-worth was none existent. That had been a large contributor to their problems. Rose didn't think she was worth anything, including being loved. Her therapist was amazing though, and eventually, Rose learnt that she was more than just a scared little girl. She was worth Emmett's love.
Three months after therapy had finished and six months after their son was born, Emmett had dropped down on one knee and asked Rose to marry him. Her answer was, of course, yes. It was a small wedding with both of their families, ironically making it quite a large wedding. Emmett's four siblings, parents, grandparents, and great grandparents all came as well as Rose's foster mother, best friend, and seven foster siblings, all of whom brought their partners and children.
It had been a beautiful day. Finn had been passed around his family, giggling with excitement and loving all the attention he was getting, whilst Rose basked in the arms of the man she loved.
"Where'd you go?" Emmett asked, stepping closer to Rose to try and shield her and Finn from the cameras.
"Just thinking about our past," Rose told him. Looking into his eyes, she knew that she had to tell him something. The last time he had been at an Olympics, she had broken his heart. Now was the time to rectify that. "And our future," she added on.
"What about our future?" Emmett asked, shifting Finn slightly so he could pull Rose closer. They had a plan for the next year. After the Olympics, Emmett wanted to take six months or so away. He'd still train, just not every morning like he was. He wanted to spend lazy mornings in bed with Rose and Finn.
Rose had no problem with that, and their future could largely remain the same… Emmett just might not be able to get as close to her as he'd like.
"I'm thinking about what we should name our next baby." Rose bit her lip, waiting for his response. She missed it last time. She hadn't got to tell him she was pregnant or that he was going to be a father.
"Our next baby?" Emmett said slowly as if he was trying to understand what she was saying.
"Yeah." Rose swallowed. "I'm pregnant." She gave a little laugh. "I ruined your last Olympics, might as well make up for it."
Emmett gave a whoop, his eyes bright and then leaned down, pressing his lips feverishly against hers. He was still wet from the pool, the smell of chemicals wafting around them. But Rose didn't care.
Around them, cameras clicked, and another roar went up through the crowd at seeing this public display of affection.
Pulling away, Rose hid her face in Emmett's chest; even after four years, she still wasn't used to all the attention he got.
"You didn't ruin my last Olympics," he whispered against her hair. "Jane did." Then his large fingers were under her chin, gently coaxing her to look at him. "But you've certainly made this one the best." Emmett's smile was contagious.
Rose couldn't help herself. She kissed him again, one hand around his waist as the other wove into his hair, her fingers wrapping around his short locks.
"I love you, Emmett."
"I love you, Rosie."
Finn gave a little cry, his hands flailing.
"And you Finn," Emmett told their son. "We love you, too."
So there we have it. I really hope that this makes up for the angst I put you through. You should know me by now, HEA only ;)
