Chapter 90
Hi everyone! It seems there was something going on with the chapters, but I think you all were still able to read it. Hopefully this one works too! I hope you enjoy it! :)
Hanna came down the stairs after getting ready for bed. Neal was asleep in his bassinet and her parents were standing in the kitchen talking in hushed voices. Hanna couldn't hear what they what they were saying, but the way they looked at each other made her grin from ear to ear. She stayed at the bottom of the stairs and watched. Her mom ran her hand down her dad's cheek. He leaned forward and whispered something into her ear that made her smile. They made eye contact and shared a soft kiss. Normally, Hanna would find all of this embarrassing, but not tonight. Tonight, Hanna was just so happy they were able to share moments like this together again.
David spotted Hanna out of the corner of his eye. "Hey you. Come here."
Snow and David each held out an arm toward their little girl.
Hanna went to them and felt at ease in their warm embrace.
"We told you we would find a way," Snow whispered.
Hanna held onto her parents tighter, so relieved they were right. She cherished this for a few moments more, then went upstairs to bed. She thought her parents might appreciate some time to themselves.
"Chocolate chip pancakes, just as the princess requested."
"Yes. Finally." Hanna picked up her fork and couldn't wait to get a bite into her mouth.
"Has it reallybeen that long since I made you breakfast?" David asked.
Hanna nodded.
"I'm sorry."
"It's okay. I don't mind cereal, but I did really miss your pancakes."
"Well, I'll make them as much as you want now. I promise." David gave her a wink, then scooped some pieces of pancake onto the highchair for Neal. He seemed to be just as excited about the breakfast.
A few minutes later, Snow came rushing from the bedroom towards the front door.
"Where are you going?" David asked.
Snow smiled. "Emma's."
"What are you taking with you?"
"That's the wedding binder," Hanna told him.
"The what?" David asked.
"It's all of Mom's plans for Emma's wedding."
David sighed. "Snow, are you sure this is the right time for that?"
"We're not going to let the Black Fairy stop Emma from enjoying her special day."
"I know that, but…" David walked closer to Snow, he glanced towards Hanna, then turned back to his wife.
Hanna noticed her Dad was trying to be secretive, so she made sure to listen closely.
"Emma and Killian just…reunited last night. It's still early. Maybe you should wait. She might still be in bed."
"Oh I'm sure she's awake by now."
"Snow…"
"David, it's fine. Why would she give me a key if she didn't want me to come over anytime I wanted?" Snow reached up and gave him a kiss. "I'll be back later."
David walked back to the kitchen after Snow left.
"I don't think Mom picked up on what you were hinting at."
"And just what was I hinting at?" David raised his eyebrows at her.
"Nothing." Hanna shoved another piece of pancake into her mouth.
"Nothing is right." David reached down and kissed the top of her head. "Finish up so we can take Neal to daycare, then you're coming to work with me."
Hanna was instructed to bring her backpack full of schoolwork to the station. This was her last day being suspended. She still had the weekend ahead of her, but then she had to go back to school on Monday. She completed all of her science and history work. She finished the books she was suppose to read, and only had one more book report to complete. Right now, she was working on Math. She was finishing up the her last lesson when Regina and Zelena walked into the station. Baby Robin was with them too.
"What's going on?" David asked.
The Black Fairy broke into Zelena's house," Regina told him.
"I found her holding Robin," Zelena said.
"What did she want?" David asked.
"She wanted my help with something. I'm not sure what, but she threatened me. She told me I didn't want to be alone during the Final Battle and said she would be my friend. She told me to meet her at the dwarf mines."
"We need to tell Emma what happened." David pulled out his phone.
Hanna put down her pencil and walked over to look at the baby. She was sleeping in her carseat. "Is she okay?''
"She's fine." Zelena adjusted Robin's blanket. "Why are you here anyway? Don't you have school?"
"I got suspended."
Zelena rolled her eyes. "Why am I not surprised…"
Hanna glared at Zelena.
"What?"
"Nothing…" Hanna went back to her homework.
Emma, Killian, and Snow showed up a few minutes later and Zelena told them what happened.
"I was about to wring her scrawny little neck, and then she just poofed away."
"Makes sense she's headed to the Dwarf tunnels," Emma said. "It's an easy place to hide."
"And there are miles of them below Storybrooke," David said. "Pinning her down in there won't be easy."
"Well, the good news is, whatever her plan was for the Final Battle, she needs help," Regina said. "Which means we have time to figure out how to stop her."
"Well perhaps that's where this piece of wand comes in," Killian pulled it from his pocket.
"That's what the shadow gave to Emma," Hanna said.
"Aye. Tiger Lily said it had been used to banish the Black Fairy once. If we can find the other half, perhaps we can do it again."
"So where do we look?" Snow asked.
"I'm not waiting around for some piece of wand," Zelena said. "The only reason I didn't blast that noir-colored nit out of existence is because of Robin. So if one of you'd be kind enough to watch her for a minute, I'll do what I intended and go and take care of this."
Hanna raised her hand. "I can watch her."
"I don't want the juvenile delinquent watching my baby."
Hanna sighed. Babysitting would have gotten her out of doing her schoolwork.
Zelena looked to the other in the room. "Anyone else?"
"Well, hold on," Regina said. "You can't just go down there alone and confront her."
"Why not?" Zelena shrugged. "What, you think I can't defeat her? I'm more powerful than you."
"Oh, really? Is that why I had to rip out my own heart to save you from the Evil Queen?"
Emma and Hanna exchanged glances.
"I would have been fine without your help!"
"Believe what you want! You're not going down there!"
"Okay…" Emma stepped in between them. "Sibling rivalry aside, Regina's right. We need to get the wand back before we go up against her, and when we do, we're going to do this together."
"Thank you," Regina said.
Zelena held up her hands. "Okay, fine. Have it your way, but you're doing it without me." She took Robin and left.
"She going to be okay?" David asked.
"She just needs to cool off." Regina held out her hand towards Killian. "In the meantime, why don't I take that piece of wand back to my vault, see of I can cast a locator spell on it."
"What about us?" David asked. "I mean, we can't just sit around here doing nothing."
"Well, we won't be," Snow said. "We have plenty to do to keep us busy."
"We do?" Killian asked.
"Well, you've obviously never planned a wedding."
"You really want to pick out centerpieces on the eve of the Final Battle?" Regina asked.
"I do. David and I went through with our wedding after you threatened us. It gave people hope. Why should Emma and Hook's be any different?" Snow beamed at the smile on Emma's face. "So who's ready to put their hearts into wedding planning?"
Hanna stood from the desk. "I am!"
"Have you finished your work?"
"No…"
Snow sighed. "Well, we need to look at wedding venues. You aren't to be left alone, so I guess you're coming with us."
"Us?" David asked.
"Yes, you're coming too," Snow said. "You have your wallet, don't you?"
"I'll need to run home and get it."
"Meet us at Granny's."
"Mom, I really get to look at venues with you?"
"Yes, but you have to do more of your work later."
"I will."
Hanna went to Granny's with her mom, Emma, and Killian. Her dad and Henry showed up a few minutes later. Apparently, Henry convinced Regina to let him stay home from school today.
"So, what do you think?" Snow asked.
"It's nice. I still think we could consider getting married on the sea." Killian wrapped his arm around Emma and pulled her close. "Wouldn't it be romantic to exchange our vows on the Jolly Roger?"
"Not if half your guests are getting sick over the side," Henry said.
Killian nodded. "I guess the lad has a point."
"I think Granny's will be perfect," Snow insisted. "We can have the ceremony outside." After dinner, we come back in here and push the tables aside for dancing. There's music on the jukebox. What do you think, David?"
David shrugged. "I…I don't know."
"What do you mean, you don't know? We have shared so many happy memories here together. Don't you want to have one more?"
"Let's be honest," David said. "Not all of them have been happy, and not all of them have been together, either."
"What are you talking about?"
David scoffed. "For starters, how about your first date with Whale?"
"Dad!" Hanna smacked his arm.
"We were cursed," Snow said. "Are you really bringing that up right now? That can't possibly be the reason you don't want to have Emma's wedding here."
"Okay, well how about this?" David said. "This place is a scrap heap. You want another one? It's not big enough. Emma's a princess, and her wedding is a royal affair."
"You want to find someplace bigger, fine. Let's go find one."
"Happy to," David said.
Snow walked past him and out the door.
David followed.
Hanna looked to Emma. "What's going on?"
"I…I don't know," Emma furrowed her eyebrows towards where their parents just went. "We better follow them though."
They next place they went to was Town Hall.
Emma looked around the room. "Well, it's definitely…"
"Bigger," Killian said.
"I think it has great potential," Snow said. "We could string lights from the ceiling, put some trees around. It could be transformed into something really magical."
"Yeah, I think it could be," Emma said.
Hanna couldn't help but notice the displeased look on her dad's face.
"Anyone one else feel a draft?" David asked.
"It's probably just a window open somewhere," Henry said.
"And look at the walls," David continued. "The whole place needs a paint job."
"Okay, Dad." Emma walked over to him. "I know that technically we're all royalty or whatever, but unless you want to do a destination wedding at your castle in the Enchanted Forest, or like, Excalibur in Vegas, I don't think we're gonna find what you're looking for."
"That's not a bad idea," David said.
"Vegas?" Emma asked.
"No. The Enchanted Forest, our castle. How many beans would it take to get everyone back there?"
"David," Snow said. "May I speak with you outside for a second?"
"Sure."
They left and Hanna turned to her sister. "What has gotten in to him?"
Emma shook her head. "No clue." She turned to Killian. "How do you feel about elopement?"
"Aye. I'll bring the rum."
"Maybe we should go out and check on Mom and Dad," Hanna suggested after a few minutes.
Emma agreed and they all went to find them.
Hanna could hear their raised voices as they walked out the front door.
"When I walk Emma down the aisle, the only thing she should be thinking about is the wonderful years ahead, not Gideon or the Black Fairy, not any of it," David said. "With everything she's been through, the least we can do is give her a real wedding day."
"What if we're not around to give her that? What if she's not?"
"She will be," David assured her. "That's where the hope comes in."
"Mom…Dad's right," Emma said. "Maybe…maybe postponing the wedding is the best thing, until we know the Black Fairy can't interrupt."
"What if we can't stop her?" Snow asked.
"Well, then it would be a really short marriage anyway." Emma held onto Killian's arm and gave him a small smile, then she looked back to her mom. "We love each other. We want to do this when it's right…not out of fear and not because we think we might die, but because we all know it's the right time."
Snow reluctantly agreed with Emma and the wedding planning was put on hold. Then Emma received a text from Regina telling her she needs them to meet her back at the station.
Once they arrived, Regina told them what Zelena had done. She went after the Black Fairy on her own after they told her not to. It was a trap. The Black Fairy used Zelena's magic to weaponize the crystals in the mine.
"She did what?" Emma asked.
"You have got to be kidding me," Snow said.
"Unfortunately, I'm not," Regina told her.
Killian shook his head. "How is it that even when your sister isn't the villain that we're fighting, she's still the villain that we're fighting?"
"Believe me, I had it out with her," Regina said. "She will no longer be a problem."
"Do we even know what the Black Fairy needs the crystals for?" David asked.
"To start the Final Battle," Regina shrugged. "So she says."
"And…has she done it?" Henry asked. "Has it started?"
"I don't know, Henry. But we'll figure it out," Regina assured him.
"Have we figure anything out about the wand yet?" Hanna asked.
"Unfortunately, I got a little sidetracked," Regina said. "But now that my family issues are under control, I'm back on it."
"Maybe not as under control as you'd like." Zelena walked into the station with Robin.
Regina went to her. "What are you doing here? I thought we agreed you were better off in Oz."
"No. You agreed. And I was going to go. But then, I changed my mind."
"Why?"
"Because despite what you may think, there's nothing for me in Oz. Anyone who ever cared for me there now hates me." Zelena sighed. "Look, I know you and I aren't exactly the sisters our mother wanted us to be, but…you're all I've got, Regina. Going down to those mines was foolish and arrogant. And I'm sorry, but…I think I can help now."
"What do you mean?" Snow asked.
"The Black Fairy used my magic to turn those fairy crystals dark, so my magic is still tethered to it."
"Well, how does that help us?" Killian asked.
"Because it also means that we can destroy it with this." Zelena reached into her bag and pulled out a wooden box.
"What's that?" Emma asked.
"Something I picked up from Oz via tornado."
"And what will it do?" Regina asked.
"Destroy my magic."
Tears formed in Zelena's eyes. Hanna could tell that witch really didn't want to do this, but she was willing to make this sacrifice for them. Emma and Regina went to Regina's vault with Zelena to cast the spell. Snow and Hanna took Robin back to the loft, while David and Henry picked Neal up from Ashley's.
Hanna sat on the couch with Robin. She was feeding her a bottle when a burst of green light shuddered throughout the loft.
Hanna jumped up and went to her parents. They were in the bedroom getting Neal into his pajamas. "What was that?"
"I think they did it," David said.
"You think the spell worked?" Hanna asked.
"It seems so," Snow said. "Are you two alright?"
Hanna nodded. "I'm going to go sit back down with her."
"Are you sure you don't want me to take over?"
"No, I'm good."
Hanna went back to the couch. Robin finished her bottle, then Hanna bounced her a bit until she fell asleep.
Regina and Zelena returned awhile later. Hanna carefully got up from the couch with Robin and walked over to them.
"Well?" Snow asked.
"The spell worked," Regina said.
David looked to Zelena. "Are you okay?"
"Fine."
"Thank you for doing this for us," Snow said.
Zelena gave Snow a nod, then turned to Hanna. "How's Robin?"
"Good. She just finished her bottle before she fell asleep."
"She went down okay?"
"Mhmm."
"I'm shocked. She usually screams like a banshee this time of night."
"She was fine for me." Hanna reached the baby out to Zelena.
"Thank you."
Snow put her hand on Hanna's shoulder. "She's pretty good with the little ones."
"I can see that. Maybe you wouldn't make a bad babysitter after all as long as you don't go teaching Robin your bad habits."
Hanna wasn't sure if she should take that as a compliment or not.
"You still have one more book report to finish, right?" Snow asked.
Hanna sighed. "Yes…"
"It's still early, so why don't you go upstairs and work on it for awhile."
"Okay."
Hanna worked on her paper for awhile, then there was a knock on her door. "Come in."
"How's it going in here?" David asked.
"I'm almost done."
"Good." David sat down on Hanna's bed.
Hanna got up and sat beside him. "Dad, you and Mom are okay, right?"
David sighed. "Yes, honey. I'm sorry about earlier."
"I don't like it when you fight."
"I know. I was just…I was scared."
Hanna nodded. "I'm scared too."
David put his arm around her. "We're going to keep your sister safe. I promise."
"I know." Hanna leaned into him. She was still scared. Destroying Zelena's magic may have delayed her plans, but The Black Fairy was powerful. She proved that time and time again. Hanna was sure that fairy had other plans up her sleeve, but for now she would relax in her Dad's embrace and try her best not to worry.
