Chapter Nineteen:
I sigh, grabbing it from him. I answer the call, "Hello" I say.
Bella's voice can be heard screeching over the phone "Where are you at! You are supposed to pick me up, remember?!".
"Bella I-" I try to say.
I got cut off again by her yelling and screeching. "I've been here for an hour already! Did you guys forget I was coming?!".
"You said you'd be here on the 18th. Tod-" I try to say again before getting interrupted again.
"So, what. I'm no longer important to you guys? I just don't matter anymore."
"Bella, I'm-I must have just gotten the dates wrong" I say, trying to calm her down and play into the fantasy she creates around herself.
"Yeah, I'm sure you did." Bella says sarcastically. "So, when are you guys picking me up?" she asks slightly more calmly.
"Can't you get a taxi?" I ask, hopeful.
"AL-EX-AND-RA!" She yells over the phone, like I'm a little child she's scolding. "I'm not taking a Taxi, when I for one, have two people who can pick me up. And I don't want to get ripped off by a sleazy man in his forties, for forty bucks, just for me to end up in a ditch somewhere!" Bella is yelling and screaming by the end, with heavy breaths over the phone.
"Okay Bella, I'll call dad, and let him know, We'll be there soon." I say to her, I can already feel a headache coming on.
"Good, was it so hard for you to say that? God, you're practically useless". She said almost yelling at the end.
My response was cut off by a deep growl from next to me.
I had totally forgotten that Jasper was here, right next to me, and he could hear every word that fell out of Bella's mouth. Bella had already ended the phone call, so she didn't hear the growl that Jasper made.
Thank God.
I look over to Jasper, he's shaking with barely contained rage, his eyes are pitch black, and the hand that is holding mine is tense, but not a strong grip.
I turn to him, tears in my eyes. I know he's like this because of me, because of what she said. And I feel bad about it.
He grabs me gently, and holds me tightly to him, his nose in my hairline, breathing deeply, trying to calm himself down. I cry gently into his arms.
"I-I didn't think she would still be like this still, I thought she would have changed at least a little. But it only seems she's gotten worse. I don't know what to do Jazz" I sniffle, my tears slow, as my throat becomes hard and thick, swallowing is difficult as my mouth fills with saliva.
Jasper took a few more deep breaths of her scent, calming him down more. He just had too before he responded, he didn't want the growl laced in his voice. He needed to be Jasper for her right now.
Not the major, not his instincts. She needed Jasper, and he knew it.
So with that last thought, his instincts settled, and the major didn't fight him.
"Alexandra, everything is going to be okay. I promise." He said into my hair.
"But, how do you know?" I say into his chest.
"I know because I just know, and I know you." he says gently coaxing your face away from his chest.
He leans down and brushes his lips against yours. A soft gasp leaves my lips as the kiss deepens.
A soft growl is heard after, tickling my ears. I pull away from the kiss, as he attaches his lips to my forehead, then his forehead replaces where his lips were.
As we both calm down from our respective highs, I mutter out "Isabella. I need to call my dad".
I see him nod. And I grab my phone again, I click on my dads contact and call him. He picks up after the third ring.
"Hey baby, is everything alright?" He questions.
"Yeah, I'm okay. Bella took an early flight, and is now at the Port Angeles airport waiting for us." I say trying to not bring my disappointment into my voice.
"Why'd she do that?" I hear him mumble faintly. "Okay honey, I'll be able to get off in an hour. And then we can go pick her up. Okay?"
"Okay dad, I'll be home shortly. Jasper is going to drop me off." I say.
"Okay honey, tell him that's fine. Also, the Blacks are going to be dropping off Bella's new truck, can you be there to make sure everything will be okay?" Dad asks with hesitation, lacing his voice.
"Yeah of course dad, I'll be there soon then." I say looking over to Jasper, he nods yes.
After my phone call with my dad, Jasper grabs my hand, and leads me out of his bedroom.
We get downstairs to where Emmitt and Rosalie are. Emmitt is playing a video game, while rosalie is reading her book on the couch.
Emmitt pauses his game and looks over to us, "Who was that on the phone?"
I forgot vampires have super hearing.
"Sounded like a total bitch" Rosealie chimes, putting down her book.
"That's my sister, Bella" I say sheepishly, suddenly embarrassed to be related to her.
Jasper takes my hand in silence, offering comfort nobody else can. Our eyes meet, and it's like we're having a conversation without words being needed.
"I'm taking her home," He said to his family. Emmitt and Rasile nodded.
Jasper led them through the living room to the front door. As to being a true gentleman, he opened it for her.
He led them to her car next, and opened the passenger door for her. She got in, and he shut the door gently. He sped around the car, and flashed her a crooked grin through the window before he got in.
Jasper got in the car, and started it up. After letting it warm up for a few minutes "Let's see what this thing can do".
"Jazz, be careful" I say tentatively.
"Always am darlin'" Jasper replied with a heart stopping grin.
The drive was fast, as Jasper sped down the long roads back to town. Once he reached city limits, he slowed down to the speed limit.
He turned down your street, and you watched him tense. He gripped your steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turned white.
Whatever he could see, you couldn't see with the human eye yet. As we approached closer, I could see Paul, Jacob, and Billy standing by a rustic orange-red truck. It looked old, but Bella should like it.
I turned to Jasper, "Walk me out?" I ask.
He nods his head stiffly. A crazed look in his eyes.
"Jazz, I'll be okay. You're here with me. I love you" I say to him.
"It's them I don't trust sugar. I love you too" He says gruffly, a growl trying to make its way out.
We get out of the car, Jasper immediately coming to my side.
I didn't understand why Jasper was being like this. Paul and I were childhood best friends.
"Paul, Jacob!" I exclaim walking over to them, Jasper still holding my hand.
Paul gives me a hard glare, "what are you doing with him Ally?" He says between gritted teeth.
He started to shake violently. Something inside me snapped at that moment.
Who did Paul think he is? He can't control who I see, certainly not after how he treated me.
"Paul" my voice rang out like ice.
Paul stopped shaking, giving me a wide eyed expression, his gaze shifting between me and Jasper. I glance to my left to see Jasper shaking, a murderous craze in his bloodshot eyes. I ignored him for a brief moment.
"Paul, why are you here?" I question, anger resonating within me.
"I wanted to see you. Is that a crime now? Or does your blood sucker not approve?" Paul throws his words at me with animalistic growl at the end.
Something my brain didn't process when my anger consumed me. "And why would you care? We haven't been friends since you stopped caring. You have nothing to do with me anymore. And he's not a blood sucker. He's my boyfriend."
"You're dating him?" Paul yells, his body shaking more violently.
I feel a harsh pull on my arm, not enough to cause pain but enough to be tugged into Jasper's hard chest.
Billy speaks up "Paul, go home. Me and Jacob can work this out. I will get Sam."
Paul looks to Billy and then back at me, he sees my slightly fearful expression.
He puts his head down, the violent shaking ceases immediately as he walks away into the tick forest.
"I'm sorry about him," Billy says apologetically.
"It's okay uncle billy" I say with concern and sadness wavering in my voice.
Jacob slaps the truck "Well here's Bella's present. We'll come by later to help her out with it."
Billy nods his head yes, as Jacob helps Billy into the van. Jacob gets into the driver's seat, and they take off.
