Chapter Twenty-Seven:
Now that my homework is finished and Jasper has left my room. I head out and go to the kitchen. Grabbing the leftover pizza. I know dad likes his warmed, gross. I like mine to be cold. I take a few slices and eat. Once I'm finished, I stay in the kitchen, doing some dishes from this morning and my plate from now.
While I'm doing the dishes dad walks in through the front door.
"You're home early" I commented to him enthusiastically.
"Yeah, for once I actually got off on time" dad jokes slightly.
"Yeah. Oh, we're having pizza for dinner" I say.
At his questioning look, I reply "leftovers".
"Ah, gotcha" dad says with a smile.
"Here, why don't you go shower. And when you get out, I'll pop a few slices into the microwave and on your way out you can call Bella down for pizza" I say, the plan already forming in my head.
"Sure, sounds good, sweetheart. I'll be back in a few" dad says heading back to the bathroom, stopping at the towel closet to grab one.
Once Charlie is out of the shower, he comes out of his room. Dressed in his "lax clothes", as he puts it. I place three slices of pizza onto a paper plate and microwave them for two minutes.
While the pizza is in the microwave, I can hear dad and Bella talking. Well mostly dad talking to Bella, as she still seems to not have learned any language dialogue.
"Hey Bells, Ally is making dinner. We're having leftover pizza. You should come out" dad says, while standing in the doorway of Bellas room.
"Dad, it's Bella. And pizza is cool, I guess" Bella replies monotonically.
"Okay, good. Dinner is ready". Dad says in a defeated voice.
Charlie leaves Bella's doorway, heading to me in the kitchen, I direct him to the dining room table, his warmed pizza on a paper plate. I place it in his usual spot, and get him a beer.
While dad is eating and drinking at the table, I hear Bella's clumsy self make her presence known in the kitchen. I head in to help her, if needed be.
"Hey Bella, do you want your pizza warmed up at all?" I ask her, trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice.
Bella doesn't say anything, just grabs her cold vegetarian pizza from the fridge and sits at the table with dad.
I sigh internally. Maybe we do have something in common besides our parents.
Sitting at the table finally, I finished the rest of the pizza I took out earlier for myself. Eating it quickly, I head back up to my room and finish up some more homework due for tomorrow. By the time I finally crawl into bed it's almost 11 pm. Bella has disturbed me every twenty minutes. She claims it's just to check up on me, but I know it's more than that. She wants to catch me doing something I'm supposedly not supposed to do.
The next morning I woke up a little bit later than usual. I realize I'm not hearing my alarm clock. I panic, clawing my hands through the blankets furiously to find my phone.
"Relax" I hear gently soothing my panicked mind. I know that voice, the cold skin, those hands over mine.
"Jasper? What the hell?" I say, slightly irritated.
"I turned off your alarm when I came in, I figured you could use the extra ten minutes of sleep." he says gazing at you with soft eyes he only held for you.
"I appreciate it, really I do. But maybe next time give me a heads up, so I don't freak out." I say with a small breathy chuckle leaving my lips.
Jasper nods his head and lays back down on my bed.
Getting out of bed, I grab some clothes and head to the shower. Taking a quick shower, I come back into my room fully clothed in twenty minutes. Grabbing my homework from last night, I put it into my binder. I sigh, frustrated. I missed an assignment.
"Crap!" I exclaim.
"What is it?" Jasper asks.
"I missed a biology assignment. And it's due today." I say, frustration lacing my voice.
"Give it to me," Jasper says gently.
"What?" I ask.
"You're stressed, and I'm not tired. I'll do it quickly, while you finish getting ready". He says looking at you intensely.
"Thank you," I sigh out through my nose. The tension that filled my body is now being released. Though I can't tell if Jasper is helping with that.
As I'm doing some last minute touches on my outfit and makeup, I see Jasper in my peripheral vision. It's maybe been seven minutes, and he's already placing my biology assignment back into my binder.
"That's so not fair" I pout.
"Don't worry darlin', when you go through high school for the next 160 years, you just learn some things" Jasper says in a teasing tone.
I huff out a small giggle.
"You know, you're gonna have to pick me up soon," I commented to him.
"Is my little lady impatient today?" Jas asks me.
"I don't know. Why don't you tell me". I tease.
"Let's see," Jasper says while coming closer. Eventually hugging me to his chest. "I sense calmness, love, happiness, small traces of lust-".
"Okay Jazz, that's enough" I say, burning my face into his chest.
"Embarrassment" he says, a smirk stretching across his face.
I gently pull away from him, a smile forming. A few small giggles escape me, "you should go". I gently push him towards the window.
Jasper pouts as he heads to my window. Leaving he winks at me "I'll be back in about half an hour doll".
"See you soon Jazzy" I say back, leaning out my window.
Once I see him leave into the tree line, I close my window and finish getting ready.
I grab my binder and put it into my backpack, along with the flashcards Jasper made for me. Slinging my school bag over my shoulder, I head out of my room and to the kitchen.
Setting my bag down next to the front door, I grab a slice of bread and place it in the toaster. While the toast is being made, I make myself a cup of coffee.
I finish making my coffee when I hear the ding of the toaster. I grab my toast, slightly burning my fingertips on the hot bread. Placing it on a paper towel, I grab the butter.
Buttering up my toast, just the way I like it, with extra butter. I let my toast cool some, while letting the butter soak into the bread. Grabbing a to-go cup, I make myself another cup of coffee.
Letting everything cool off I go up to Bella's room and knock on her door.
"Bella, time to get up" I gently shout, so as to not come off as rude.
"I'm up. I thought you would have known that by now" Bella snarky replies through her door.
"Okay, well I didn't, and if you don't leave soon, you'll be late for school" I say back, a gentle sigh escaping past my lips.
"You're not my mom, so stop acting like it." Bella yells through the door.
I don't say anything. Heading back to the kitchen, I grab my bag and put it on. Hastily grabbing my coffee cup and down the rest. Wrapping my slice of toast and grabbing my coffee to go. I wait outside for Jasper to pull up.
I hear the notification, which I can only assume is from Jasper go off, before I can even see him. It's another minute or so that I'm able to see his car coming down the street.
Walking down the driveway to the street, we meet at the same time. Once the car is in park, Jasper immediately gets out and takes my coffee and toast while opening the passenger door for me. Once I'm in, he hands me back my breakfast, and shuts the door.
Once Jasper and I are driving to school, he finally asks me "What happened?".
"Bella happened. That seems to be the new regular for me." I sigh out. "I mean it's like not even her first full week here and she's already got a tree up her ass with me".
"Darlin'" Jasper says, reaching over to place his hand on my knee, rubbing slow tight circles with his thumb. "Maybe she just needs to adjust more here. Maybe find some new friends".
"I don't know if that would work, Jas. It stems from our parents. They had an ugly divorce, and once Rene had Bella and I, things just got worse from there. Why do you think I've lived with my dad for the last two years?" I say frustration lacing my voice.
"Don't worry darlin', I'm sure she'll come around soon." Jasper says. He grabs my hand and brings it up to his mouth. He gently kisses my knuckles.
