Dance The Night Away
It had been a long week since the night Drew had been arrested. The fallout from the incident had rippled through the school, and Drew's suspension was the talk of every hallway. With Drew and his gang out of the picture, Ash and his friends could finally breathe. However, their instruments were still ruined, and the band's plans for performing were put on hold. Despite that, they all looked forward to the upcoming school dance, a much-needed distraction after the chaos of the past week.
In Ash's house, the sound of activity filled the air. He was in his room, trying on different shirts in front of his mirror, debating which one would be suitable for the dance. After all, this wasn't just any event. It was his first school dance with May as his date.
"C'mon, man, you've got to look good for May," Ash muttered to himself as he held up a red button-down shirt.
"Ash!" Brock called from downstairs. "We need to leave soon if we want to get there on time. Gary's already at Paul's, and Misty and Dawn are meeting us at the school."
Ash grinned, tossing the black shirt onto his bed. "I'll be right down!"
In the living room, Brock waited patiently, dressed in a sharp black shirt and jeans. He had a confident air about him, as usual. Brock always looked like he was ready to charm someone, and tonight would be no exception.
"You're cutting it close," Brock teased as Ash jogged down the stairs.
Ash laughed, adjusting his collar. "Just wanted to make sure everything was perfect. It's not every day I take May to a dance."
Brock raised an eyebrow, smirking. "You've got nothing to worry about. May's crazy about you, and besides, you've been through way worse than a school dance."
Ash rolled his eyes, but deep down, he was glad Brock was there to keep him grounded. They both knew that facing Drew had been tough, but tonight was about having fun and letting go of that stress.
Just as they were about to leave, there was a knock on the door. Ash opened it to find May standing on the doorstep, her eyes sparkling with excitement. She wore a simple but elegant dress in a deep shade of purple, which complemented her well. Her hair was loosely curled, and she smiled brightly when she saw Ash.
"You ready?" she asked, her tone light and playful, though Ash could see the hint of nerves in her eyes.
Ash's breath caught for a second as he took in the sight of her. "You look… amazing."
May blushed slightly, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "Thanks. You look pretty good yourself."
Brock cleared his throat, grinning. "Alright, lovebirds, we've got a dance to get to."
When they arrived at the school gym, it was already packed with students. Lights strung along the walls gave the room a soft, warm glow, The DJ was none other than principal Flores to evetryones surprise who was currently playing the song Fire Burning by Sean Kingston. Groups of friends were scattered across the room, talking, laughing, and dancing.
Ash and May walked in hand-in-hand, their nerves dissipating as they saw familiar faces. Gary, dressed in a sharp suit with his usual cocky smile, was standing by the punch bowl, chatting with Paul, who looked as indifferent as ever but had still dressed up in a simple black blazer. Misty and Dawn were already on the dance floor, laughing and twirling to the music.
Misty spotted Ash and the group immediately, waving them over. "Hey! You guys made it!"
Dawn beamed at them, her eyes lighting up as she glanced at Ash and May. "You two look great together!"
Ash smiled, feeling a warmth spread through his chest as they joined their friends. "Thanks. You guys look awesome, too."
Misty grinned. "We've been dancing for a bit, but it's way more fun with everyone here. Let's make tonight unforgettable!"
The gang all moved and swayed with every song that played through the speakers. From silly moves like the Robot done by Ash to Brock literally dropping down and doing the worm in the middle of the Dance floor. Gary and Paul eventually joined in, though Gary was much more enthusiastic, trying to show off some moves by busting in a spinning breakdance much to the amusement of everyone else. Even Paul, who usually kept to himself, cracked a rare smile as Brock tried to get him to dance.
Misty and Dawn kept the energy alive, never missing a beat as they pulled May into their circle of dance, leaving Ash to watch, amused. He leaned against the wall, his eyes always following May. The night was filled with music with all sorts of different genres. May laughed when she noticed how much Misty was enjoying dancing to the Cupid Shuffle. Suddenly the song stopped.
DJ Flores grabbed the mic and spoke. Alright this next track is for all my Country fans out there. Suddenly the song Boot Scootin Boogie played and Dawn was excited as ever, grabbing the girls and showing them how to line dance.
As the night began to wind down, Ash decided to walk up to everyones favorite DJ to ask for a request.
Hey what's up Principle F. Ash shouted over the music.
Principal Flores was always excited to speak to one of his students. Ash how's it going son? Are you enjoying the dance? Your band definitely knows how to party!
Ash felt a little bit of nervousness as he heard that last remark. Yup, were a crazy bunch Ill admit that. Anyways Principle F I wanted to know if I can put in a request for this girl I like.
Principal Flores was excited to hear Ashs reasoning. Of course Ash! Anything for my favorite frontman!
Principle Flores was always a giant supporter of Ash and his band, being a huge metal head he was even spotted at some of their shows at the Rock It club. He was a kind man who was always willing to help in any way.
He grabbed the mic and spoke. Alright this next song is a request, dedicating it to his beautiful date. This song is for May Maple.
The speakers began playing the song Dance The Night Away by Van Halen. Ash walked up to May asking for her hand.
"May, will you have this dance with me?" he asked, his voice a bit shy but hopeful.
May smiled, taking his hand. "Of course."
As they swayed to the rocking music, Ash felt the weight of the past week lift off his shoulders. The confrontation with Drew, the destruction of their equipment, the threats. It all seemed so far away now. Here, in this moment, it was just him and May, and nothing else mattered.
"You know," May whispered as they danced, "I'm really glad we came tonight. It feels good to be here, with you."
Ash's heart swelled. "Me too. After everything, I'm just happy we're together."
May rested her head on Ash's shoulder, and for the first time in what felt like forever, Ash felt like everything was going to be okay. There were no more threats hanging over them, no more fights to worry about—just the music and the people he cared about most.
Ash felt a blush come up. He had always felt a deep connection with May, but after everything they had been through recently he realized just how much she meant to him. More than anything, he wanted to protect her and make sure she was happy.
The song ended, but Ash wasn't ready to let go of the moment. As they stood there, surrounded by the soft glow of the lights and the murmurs of the crowd around them, Ash knew what he wanted to say. He had been thinking about it for a while now, and this felt like the right time.
"May," he began, his voice low and a little shaky, "I've been thinking about something for a while."
May looked at him curiously, her head tilting slightly. "What is it?"
Ash swallowed hard, suddenly feeling the weight of the moment. "We've been through a lot together, and I care about you more than I've ever cared about anyone. I just… I want you to know that, and… well…" He paused, gathering his thoughts. "I'd really like it if we made this official. Will you be my girlfriend?"
May's eyes widened slightly in surprise, and for a moment, Ash worried he might have said the wrong thing. But then, her face lit up with a smile that made his heart soar.
"Ash… I thought you'd never ask," she said, her voice full of warmth.
Ash felt a rush of relief and happiness as she wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a tight kiss.
The energy of the gym slowly started to fade away. As Ash and May stepped off the dance floor, still holding hands after their slow dance. The dim lights and soft music set a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for what they were about to do. They found their group of friends gathered by the punch bowl, chatting and laughing. Ash took a deep breath, glancing at May, who gave him a reassuring smile.
"Now's the perfect time," she whispered, squeezing his hand.
Ash nodded. With May by his side, he felt more confident than ever.
"Hey, guys!" Ash called, walking over to the group. His voice carried over the music, and their friends turned to face him. "May and I have something we want to share."
Gary raised an eyebrow. "What's up, Ketchum? You look like you're about to drop some big news."
Ash chuckled nervously, rubbing the back of his neck with his free hand. "Well, yeah… actually, we are. So, uh… May and I are officially a couple now."
For a brief moment, the group was silent as they processed the announcement. Then Dawn let out a loud squeal of excitement. "Finally! I knew it was only a matter of time!" She rushed forward to hug May.
Misty grinned and punched Ash lightly on the arm. "About time, Ash. You two make a great couple."
Brock gave a thumbs-up. "Congrats, man. I'm really happy for you both."
Paul nodded approvingly. "Good for you guys. Actually ladies I never got the chance to apologize for snapping at you all during that one band practice. Turns out Gary was wrong, you're not just 3 bubblegums. You all are actually pretty cool. "
Dawn was the first to respond. Well that took a lot of courage and I think I speak for all 3 of us when I say you are forgiven. She responded while planting a kiss on his cheek.
Well come on, the dance isn't over yet! Let's keep partying bitches! screamed Gary.
Let's do it! yelled Brock.
The gang continued to party for the rest of the night. After a long, stressful week they all needed to unwind and let go of all the negativity. Finally being able to get rid of Drew and his bullying ways, The future was bright for all of them. This journey is only the beginning.
