Chapter Thirty:
We spent the rest of the night cuddling. Both of us reassured each other that the other was okay. Once she fell asleep, I didn't close my eyes. I stayed alert, leaving her to check our surroundings occasionally throughout the night.
Ally POV:
I woke up the next morning in Jasper's bed. Jasper standing next to the bed watching over me.
"Morning Jazz" I say, sleepiness evident in my voice.
"Morning darlin'. We should talk" he says, leaning down and kissing me.
"Talk away cowboy" I say, already knowing what he wants to talk about.
"I'm sorry you had to see me like that yesterday. I shouldn't have let you see that." He starts off.
"Jasper, listen. You were protecting me. And I'm glad you did. Was I terrified, yes. Of you, no." I say to him, really trying to drive the point home.
I get out of his bed, unwrapping the cocoon of blankets around me. I stand up and walk over to Jasper, hugging him tightly.
"I need to get home and change for school today" I say into his shirt.
"No need, Alice saw what happened, and snuck into your room and grabbed you some clothes" Jas says, a slight smile forming.
"You know I find it remarkable how you guys can do that. And a little creepy" I nervously laugh out.
Jasper lets out a deep chuckle. "Well darlin', better get used to it".
A knock on the door is heard, Jasper walks over and opens it.
"I have your clothes," Alice says excitedly.
Standing, I walk over to the door, standing next to Jasper. Grabbing the clothes from Alice, I head to Jasper's walk-in closet and get changed quickly.
Walking out of his closet, dirty clothes in hand, I give Jasper a questioning look.
"Leave them here. Esme will wash them today and I'll bring them tonight." He says.
Arriving at school, Edward is a no show again. We see Bella's truck in the parking lot. It's not hard to miss. Jasper and I get here before any of his siblings.
After the rest of the Cullen children arrive, Bella begins to stare, making eye contact with every one of them. Until me, she glares at me. Jasper glares back at her until she quickly looks away.
Once school has started, we all head into our classes. During lunch, I meet up with Jasper, as he leads me to their table. Rose sits down with a huff, Emmitt sitting next to her, putting his arm around her.
Sitting next to Jasper, I look over to Rose. "What's wrong?" I ask her.
"I have English with her, and she stared at me the whole time. And now she's doing it again" Rose says again, a frustrated growl leaving her.
"Yeah, she stared at me in Spanish," Alice grimaced.
Turning to look over at Bella, we lock eyes. I quickly turn and look away. The rest of lunch is strained, the tension thick. I can feel her trying to burn holes in the back of my head.
Jasper walks me to my last three classes, and sits next to me in our last two. In history, we work on our project.
After school, Jasper drops me off at home, once again waiting in the truck for me to get inside. It continues like this for the rest of the week.
I have Bella constantly questioning me about the Cullen's and Edward before, during, and after school. I ended up putting a lock on my door after the hundredth time of her just barging into my room.
After getting no answers from me about Edward or the Cullen's, she started to question the others. At one point she made the mistake of cornering Rosalie in the hall right before lunch. That didn't go over well with Rose. She had yelled at Bella to leave me, her, and her family alone. After her scolding Bella walked away with her head down.
Today was the day that Edward would return.
Finally.
Jasper is picking me up as usual. There's some ice on the roads this morning. Stepping out this morning, I walked carefully to Jasper, where he was waiting for me. I gave him a bright smile.
"What's the huge grin for?" He asks me teasingly.
"Edward will be back today! It means I won't have to deal with Bella constantly questioning me." I exclaim.
Opening the passenger door for me "Ma'am" he says, his accent full swing.
I blush, he knows what kind of effect his southern charm has on me. "Jas" I whine out "not fair".
"Oh it's fair darlin'." He smirks. "If you get to look like that every day, then I get to charm you" He says putting his hands on my waist, leaning down to kiss me.
I gasp. He's kissing me like it's going to be his last.
He lets out a quiet groan. And if I wasn't pressed up against the car with his hands around me, I would have crumpled to the ground.
"Jas" I whimper out, breathing slightly heavy. "School".
He leans back, pressing his forehead against mine. "Sorry darlin', I got a little carried away" he says, not an ounce of remorse in his tone. A playful smirk on his face.
Letting me go, he helps me into his car. And shutting the door. He gets into the drivers side, and speeds off, tires spinning.
Arriving at school, Bella is already here. She's already staring at Edward. Jasper and I park and step out, joining the rest of the family.
"Are you feeling better?" I ask Edward.
He doesn't reply with words but with a head nod, yes.
Rose joins our conversation. "While you were gone, your little blood bag kept staring at all of us. And kept asking us questions. She's curious. You need to redirect her."
"Why? One human already knows" Edward snarks off.
"Because she's not just a human. She's Jasper's mate. Bella isn't your mate. We've been over this" Rose says, defending me.
Edward growls under his breath. "Let's go," he says aggressively.
Sighing, we all follow Edward into school. Heading to our classes. After our first three periods, we head into lunch, per Alice's request. We walk in as couples.
First is Rose and Emmitt, Alice and Liam, Jasper and I, and lastly Edward. Bella staired every single one of us down as we entered.
Grabbing lunch for myself in the lunch line, which surprisingly went quickly. I head back and set my food down at the table. I sit in the middle of a hushed argument between the family and Edward.
"You've got to be kidding me?" Rose says, throwing her hands in her lap.
Jasper is clenching and unclenching his fists. A murderous intent held in his eyes.
I place my hands on top of his, and run my thumb back and forth across his knuckles. He seems to have calmed down a little.
"There's no need to yell at me Jasper, I can hear your thoughts loud and clear." Edward states flatly.
"Dude, you need to stop staring at her. It's creepy" Emmitt says bluntly.
"Fine. Alice. What do you see?" Edward asks rudely.
"It's uncertain. She'll become a magnet for danger and she'll turn" Alice says, eyes glossed over.
"No," Edward says "I'll redirect her".
After school, Jasper is by my side again, we're walking out to meet up with the rest of the family, save Edward for last. Joining the family, Jasper stands behind me and places his arms around me.
"What the hell?" Rose questions loud enough for me to pick up on.
All of us turn to face the direction she's looking. Edward is walking with Bella, and they're talking. They split ways, Bella heading to her truck, and Edward heading to the seething group of vampires.
"I was just talking with her. Redirecting her. Nothing more" He says with a smile.
Rose scoffs, getting into her car. The rest of the family followed her lead.
Jasper dropped me off at home, Bella isn't here yet. Heading inside, I go to my room, locking my door.
About an hour later Bella comes home, her clumsy self making her presence known throughout the house.
