Chapter Thirty-Six:
Ally POV:
Leah begins to calm down, her tears and sobs subside, she leans more into Paul, pulling my closer. I can feel a shift within Paul, almost animalistic. I pull away slowly. My senses are on full alert, as I stare at they calm almost instantly.
What the hell was that?
I brush the feeling aside, focusing back onto Leah. Both Paul and I gave her some space, but still stood between us. I check the time quickly, it's almost twelve. Bella and our friends should be here soon.
"Leah I'm sorry for what happened, but I need to go." I glance up at him "Paul".
He nods, understanding what I'm saying.
"It's okay Ally. I'll be fine. You go." She says with a smile.
"I'll keep in touch more. And don't think I don't see what's going on here" I say with a smirk forming near the end of my sentence. Wagging a pointed finger between my two friends.
Paul and Leah look at me with wide eyes. Looking back at each other, I can already feel a bond forming between the two.
Leaving them by the river I walk back to my car. I know I'll be late, but I can't find myself caring if I am. A friend needed my help, and if Jessica wants to give me shit for that, I'll give her a taste of what happens when I get pissed.
Driving over to the beach side, I can already see Tyler's van. I pull up next to him, getting out, I sit next to Angala, Jessica, and Bella. "Hey guys" I say.
"You made it!" Angala says, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
"I did" I say, happy to be around some of my other friends.
Angala and I huddle together when a particularly cold gust of wind whooshes around us. It smells like the ocean. Breathing it in calms some part of my mind as childhood memories flash through my mind like a reel of photos.
I sense movement across us towards the bushes. Looking over before anyone else, I see Embry, Quill, Jacob, and Sam emerge. Sam and Quill are the only two who are wearing shorts.
Jacob approaches us three girls. Angala looks nervous as she glances between Jacob, Bella, and I. "Hey Jake," Bella says.
Angala releases a breath of air. "Bella," Jacob says with a wide grin.
"These are my friends. Angala," Bella says pointing her out. "Jessica, Tyler, and Mike" pointing out to the water.
"Awesome!" Jacob exclaims with a scoff.
"What are you doing here?" Bella questions with a shy smile.
Don't fall for her trap Jake. She'll only ruin you.
"You're on my rez, remember?" He says with a toothy smile.
Jessica runs over.
Probably seeing the shirtless men.
"Be nice to her. Her date bailed" Jessica says snarkily.
"What date?" Jacob questions with a kicked puppy look.
"The one and only Edward Cullen" Jessica says blandly.
"It was just to be nice" Bella says the same time Sam speaks up. "The Cullen's don't come here".
I glance at Sam, he's changed. He's taller, has much more muscle on him. And a new tattoo.
Could the legends be true?
"Quill, Embry. Let's go!" Sam calls out in a tone that makes no room for argument.
The three men walked off back through the bushes. Once Bella can deem them out of hearing range when she speaks up. "What did he mean? The Cullen's don't come here."
"You caught that, huh?" Jake asks, a nervous smile forming.
I listen in. I have to.
I need to protect their secret.
"You wanna come look at the tide pools?" Jake asks Bella.
"Sure" she says standing up.
"I'll come with!" I say standing. Turning back to Angala "I'll be right back".
Going after Bella and Jake, I caught up to them quickly as they stopped walking. I hear Jake telling her about their tribal stories. They're clearly having a moment.
I know if Bella had the choice between Edward or Jacob, she'd choose Edward. I don't want to see him heartbroken by her. Walking up to Bella I gently grab her arm swaying her to face me.
"You seriously can't believe him Bella. I grew up with Leah and Paul, they told me the same outrageous stories. Because their parents told them to keep them out of trouble." I say trying to get her to see clearly.
"They're not just some stories" Jacob says, pissed that I interpreted their moment.
"How would you know Jake?" I ask. "I mean it's not like werewolves are real. I mean people who turn into big dogs. That's just not humanly possible" I say.
Bella looks at me, her eyes going from a glare to a slightly softer gaze. She doesn't believe it.
Jacob grabs my arm forcefully "You know!" he shouts in my face. His grip was tight and hot. Too hot.
"What do I know? I know you'd do anything to spend time with her, even make up stories." I question, meeting his almost black eyes. Almost no trace of his iris showing.
"You know what they are!" he screams at me, an almost animalistic growl follows after.
Oh shit. He's about to-
I don't get to finish my thought as he squeezes my arms tighter, pain envelops me down to my fingertips. He's shaking me like a rag doll now. "You know!" He keeps screaming.
The bond pulses within me. I can feel it.
Jasper! I scream inside my mind. The bond pulses harder and stronger.
I feel my back collide with something solid and freezing. It's not Jasper.
Jacob has me pinned by my arms against a large boulder. I can just barely see over him, Bella is standing there, watching. A sick smile on her face.
No one will help me today. Not even my own sister.
I watch her leave as my lips part in a cry for help. By now it feels like my bones will snap, my hands are numb from lack of blood flow.
A deafening snarl overpowers whatever Jacob just screamed at me. Jacob looks up, a terrified expression crosses his features as he drops me to the hard ground.
My body crumples to the ground as pure terror fills my being. My palms go out in front of me to shield my head from whatever blows might come if I land on rocks.
Rolling onto my side I sit up. I'm shaking. My arms from my elbows down to my fingertips become hot as blood races down through my veins. I carefully face my palms up so I can inspect damages as they tingle.
They're scraped up, little beads of blood come out of them. I glance up as I see someone's feet in front of me. Raising my gaze across the back of their body, I spot almost shoulder length pale blond hair.
Jasper.
Every single muscle is pulled taught, shaking with barely contained rage. His hands keep going between white knuckled fists and strained flexed fingers.
