Chapter 4: Safe Haven
Further into a hell of Playtime's making, Eric and Alex enact Poppy's plan for revenge against The Prototype.
As the elevator went down, Poppy says: "No no no no no! Hold on, Kissy! I'm coming! Listen, go on ahead. Don't wait for me. I won't leave Kissy behind, and I won't sacrifice our plan. Not because of...because of me. Just...be careful. Down here, it's...it's not like anything you've seen above. It's not trying to hide what it is. It's hell, and Playtime wanted it to be. But we have allies down here. Get to them."
When they reached the bottom, Eric and Alex got of the elevator. "Please be careful Poppy," says Alex. "I hope you know what you're doing," says Eric. As she went back up, Poppy says: "There's still time to save the orphans. Follow the Red Smoke! And look out for..." The elevator quickly disappears, they both looked at each other before looking at the room they were in.
"Where are we now?" says Alex. "I don't know. It looks like a loading bay, but why would there be one this deep in the factory?" says Eric. They walked out of the big room, down a hallway and into another cave. "Look! Up there!" Alex pointed at a pipe that was glowing red and says: "That must have some Red Smoke in it. We should probably follow it." "Good thinking Alex. Let's go."
Eric and Alex followed the pipe, until they came across two yellow doors. There was some rope that was stopping them from opening. "There must be something that we can use to cut the rope," says Alex. "Actually, I have a better idea," says Eric. He then pulled out the flare gun and fired it at the rope. It then caught on fire and Alex says: "Nice shot dad." "I didn't actually think that would work. But I'm glad that it did."
The yellow doors opened and Eric and Alex gasped. There were multiple giant piles of Smiling Critters toys. "There's thousands of them! Were they alive at some point?!" says Alex. "I...I don't know. God, I hope they weren't," says Eric. They walked past the piles and there was an alarm. A door in front of them closed, Alex then says: "How do we get into there now?"
Eric pointed at a hole and says: "If we climb one of these piles, we should be able to climb into there." Alex sighs before saying: "Nowhere to go but up." They climbed up one of the piles and climbed through the hole. They entered a room with some containers, a crane and a train. The phone that Eric was carrying was ringing and when he answered it, Ollie was talking to them.
"Hey. It's me again, Ollie. I wanted to...I wanted to talk to you two. Before you go inside, I mean. Everything you've seen out here. The piles. The dead. They all came from inside. Believe me, everything Poppy said about this place is true. It's hell... But she also hasn't seen it like I have. It's worse now. Worse than ever... Just try to stay safe. Please. Don't let your guard down for even a second... I'll try to help you when I can."
"Ok, it looks like the train's out of power. Stay here," says Eric. He then climbed into a container and found a key. He opened a door and turned on the power to the train. A container then opened and he says: "Quick! Get in!" They got inside and the train started to move. "So, how are supposed to get out of here?" says Alex. "Oh, I didn't think that far ahead," says Eric. "For fuck's sake dad."
Suddenly, a TV in the corner of the container turned on and an eye appeared on it. "Mmmm, now what's this? Do I feel something squirming it's way beneath my skin? An invasive, foreign little germ? After all this time? Ah, but I see...you two. Well, little germ, let's make a game of you. You've blundered along the shadows above, and only managed to squirm all the way down here but by the barest skin of your teeth. There are no shadows here that would be of use to you. Not even the ground beneath your feet is yours. There are no places you can hide. Not from me."
The voice laughs before the container flips over and Eric and Alex falls unconscious. When they woke up, there was a hole in the container. They walked out of the container and into a facility. "There are a lot of these containers. What is this place?" says Alex. "I think this is a prison," says Eric. "If you didn't save me, would I've ended up in here?" "Let's not think about that now. We need to find Poppy's allies."
They walked through the prison, until they came across a gate with a red handprint. "Shit! Mommy Long Legs took my red hand ages ago." "There might be a spare one nearby." "Good thinking Alex." They walked into a break room and found a dead body with a Grab Pack. After picking up the red hand, Eric says: "Thanks for giving me a hand mate." "Seriously dad?" says Alex. "Too far?" "Too far."
When they left the break room, the voice from the TV says: "The subject scrambles for an advantage. They appear lost and disoriented. Heavy breathing is indicative of fear, and rightly so. Let's test the response to said fear when pushed into action." The container doors started to open and little toys came out of them.
"Maybe they're friendly?" says Alex. One of the toys jumped at her and she swatted it away. "Not friendly! Definitely not friendly!" "Quick, shut the doors!" says Eric. Alex started to close the doors, Eric used the flare gun to cover her. After minutes of closing doors and scaring away toys, the electronic voice says: "I have seen enough. Thank you. You may proceed."
"Jesus, that was intense. Who even is this guy that's watching us?" says Alex. "One of the scientists, maybe?" says Eric. "Some of those toys looked like the Smiling Critters. But there was some new characters that I haven't seen before." "That's because they were the Nightmare Critters. The opposite of the Smiling Critters." "Who came up with that idea?" "I don't know. It's been a while since I worked here." He then used the red hand to open the gate and they entered a control room. He used the controls to open a door across the room and they walked into another cell block.
Suddenly, an alarm went off and the voice says: "Don't fight. Fighting only makes it work quicker." The room then started to fill with Red Smoke. "Shit! I don't have a gas mask!" says Eric. Alex started to cough and says: "Dad? I can't breathe!" "There's got to be a way out of here! Run!" They ran through the cell block as fast as they could.
They just managed to run into another control room. "Whoa! That was a close one! Right, let's get rid of this nasty stuff then," says Eric. He pressed some buttons and the Red Smoke disappeared. They then crawled through some vents and entered another room. There were multiple observation rooms in front of them. "They must have used this place to exam the experiments," says Alex.
After they walked into one, the door closes and the voice says: "You know, I never thought I'd see another like you. A human. Certainly not an employee like you. But something makes you different, I can tell that much. Though I can't say what exactly that something is. Not yet. The others you two faced, 1170, 1188, 1222. Been there, done that. Let's try our hand at something a little different. Oh Yarnaby..."
In the room in front of them, a door opened and a giant rainbow lion toy entered. "Please, do keep making this enjoyable for me. I'll be taking notes." Eric then used the blue hand to open a door and says: "Let's get out of here." Alex nods before following him out of the room. They entered a room with some shelves and Yarnaby appears.
"Hide!" Eric whispers to Alex. They hid behind some boxes and then they snuck past Yarnaby. They entered a warehouse and heard a noise behind them. They turned around to see Yarnaby, Eric then says: "Run!" They both ran away and Yarnaby chased them. They ran into a room and slammed the door. Alex pointed at a vent and says: "In there!"
They quickly crawled through the vent and entered another room. "Ok, I think we lost him," says Eric. "I hope so," says Alex. He then sees a broken window and says: "If we go out there, there's a little edge that we can walk across in order to reach that door over there." "Are you sure dad? What if we fall?" says Alex. "Don't worry, I'll go first just in case."
Eric started to walk along the edge, he then looked down and saw a green toy eating something. "What the..." Suddenly, he slipped and fell down. "Dad! Hold on, I'm coming!" says Alex. She then jumped down and landed next to Eric. "Are you ok?!" "Yeah. But I thought I saw..." He then pointed and says: "Pianosaurus!"
Alex spun around and saw the green toy staring at them. It was a green dinosaur, with a keyboard for a face. It then ran towards them. Alex stood in front of Eric, but all of a sudden, multiple hands from the shadows grabbed Pianosaurus. He was then flung across the room before getting dragged into the darkness. Crunching sounds were heard before Pianosaurus's head landed next to them.
A figure across the room then says: "Now that hit the spot! I haven't eaten in weeks!" The figure walked up to Eric and Alex, he looked like he was made out of multicoloured Play-Doh. "Hiya there, pal! Don't worry, I won't eat you. I'm Doey. I was told to expect you. This way. Follow me." Eric and Alex climbed back up and opened the door.
They walked through a hallway of doors and Doey says: "Interrogation Rooms. They'd question us here after watching us. Those of us who could speak at all. I always answered. But I never gave them an answer they liked." "This place is pure evil," says Alex. "I hope the people behind all of this is burning in Hell," says Eric.
They entered some caves and Doey says: "There's some nasty falls in this place, but I can get you two across. Oh yes, definitely." He then stretched himself across a gap and Eric and Alex walked across him. "So...have you seen Poppy anywhere? Ollie said she was around...somewhere. He also said we can trust you. I really hope that's true."
"Don't worry Doey, you can trust us," says Alex. "Yeah. The only reason we came back is to help," says Eric. They then entered a prison yard and Doey says: "There's a safe place up ahead, it's not too far from here." He then ran through a crack in the wall. "Right. You can't fit through here. Hmmm... Hey pal, let's see if we can't get these doors open. You check out there, I'll look back here!"
Eric and Alex looked around the prison yard. "Hey look, there's some chains that we can attach to the doors," says Eric. "Yeah, hopefully that works," says Alex. They attached four hooks to the doors and pulled the levers. The doors slowly opened and they high fived each other. They walked through a hallway and crawled through a vent.
They saw Doey standing next to a hole in the floor. "Our generator's in a pretty bad state, so we try to keep the power off in here. I'll turn it on for you, though. It'll open a door downstairs." Eric and Alex looked at each other before jumping down the hole. They saw a machine that was missing some gears. "The gears must be in this room somewhere. Let's get looking," says Eric.
They walked around the room, picking up the gears and placing them into the generator. When it turned on, Doey says: "Should be a straight shot from here, bud! I, uh...should probably go turn off our defences for you, huh. Guess I'll see you both inside?" Eric and Alex through a kitchen and into a hallway. As they walked past a crack in the wall, two pink arms grabbed them and pulled them in.
Eric and Alex looked up and saw Poppy and Kissy Missy. Unfortunately, the right side of her face and arm looked burnt. Before they could say anything, something that looked like a metal spider walked past the crack in the wall. "Through the showers. We should be able to make it into the Safe Haven from there," says Poppy.
They all walked out of the crack in the wall and through the shower room. They entered a colourful room full of tents and Poppy says: "Hurry! Close it!" A little green toy called Boogie Bot pressed a button and the door behind them closes. "What's going on? What's..." Doey runs up to the group and says: "Kissy! Goodness, what happened?"
"We need to get her help. Now," says Poppy. "Poppy? Is that really...? Right. Take her to one of the beds. I'll check the defences, see if something's still outside," says Doey. "Not just something...it's him. He's out there." "You brought him down... We'll talk about this later. For now, I'll make sure "out there" is where he stays."
"Locking down Safe Haven. Reactivating the defences," says Boogie Bot. "Over here," says Poppy. She led Kissy Missy to an empty tent and she sat down inside of it. "I'm so glad to see that Kissy Missy's still alive. What exactly do you think Poppy meant by with "him?" says Alex. "I think she was referring to that creature we saw back in that hallway. Wait, was that The Prototype?" says Eric. "Get some rest, ok?" says Poppy. She then walked out of the tent and looked up at Eric and Alex.
"I didn't know it had gotten this bad. I...I need to make this right. What I said on the elevator, it's true. The orphans weren't killed during The Hour of Joy, they were taken. They're below, in the Labs, The Prototype's home. They are alive, but sleeping. They're with him. And he knows we're here. So if we're going to free them and stop The Prototype, we need to plan for both at the same time. The Red Smoke you redirected from Playcare...it's an accelerant. All it needs is high pressure and a little spark, and it ignites. The plan is this: we'll fill The Foundation with the smoke, and line it with old mining charges. Then, once you, Alex, me and Kissy have freed the orphans our friends here will blow this place sky high. That's our revenge. For now, go to Doey. See what he needs. I'll be here."
Eric and Alex nodded and looked around the room. There were other friendly toys, just going about their day. "Did Poppy and Doey rescue all of these toys?" says Eric. "This is incredible. There are still people living here. After all of this time," says Alex. They walked around the room, until they saw Doey waiting next to a door labelled: "Auxiliary Power." "Hiya pal, got something I wanna talk to you about. In here."
They entered the room and inside is a generator. "I heard what you did above, what you survived. If it's all true, then we need your help. The voice out there, the one in the prison... They called him: "The Doctor"; Doctor Harley Sawyer. He was the scientist, in charge of creating...us. We don't know what he is, how he's still alive, but he works with The Prototype. Hunting us. Starving us. Making us sick and... He controls it all with an Omni Hand, we think. The executives used them. It's a battery, a key, the master control to anything in the entire factory, and with it he commands everything down here...everything but this. Runs completely on its own grid. Away from the prison. For a time, it kept us safe. But now... I need you to stop The Doctor, to take his Omni Hand. We'll need it for the generator. And if you want Red Smoke in The Foundation, you'll need it too. The toys out there, in Safe Haven, they're my family... I understand what Poppy wants, what she believes is right. Destroy the factory. Destroy him. But I ask you to consider: If we throw everything away. Everyone. Just to kill The Prototype, how much do we waste? I know the others might believe it's right. That we should bury everything. But... Let's just think about it. Head for the Infirmary whenever you're ready to leave. There's Sewer access inside. That's your safest path to the No Man's Land. And to him. But if you need to catch your breath...our Safe Haven is also yours."
Eric and Alex left the room and walked towards the Infirmary. "Dad? I've been waiting ten years for this moment. The man who turned me into this, is about to face justice," says Alex. "I know, but there's something I should talk to you about," says Eric. "What's that dad?" "I think you should stay in here, until I get back." "Wait, what? But why?"
Eric held Alex's hands before saying: "Listen, this place is full of others like you. And where we're going, I don't know if we'll survive. If something happened to you, I don't know what I'll do with myself. I nearly lost you once, I can't lose you again! Please Alex! Just wait here until I get back." He then started to cry, Alex slowly hugged him.
"Just, promise me that you'll kill this guy for me?" "I promise. I love you Alex." "I love you too dad." After Alex lets go of Eric, he walks into a hole in the wall and walks down a tunnel into the sewers. He then heard the voices of Poppy and Doey above him. "I think you might be wrong, Poppy. What you want..." "It's the best for everyone, Doey. That no trace of this place is left. We agreed to that." "I know. But us, everyone in there, we're not just things gone wrong. We're people. Can't you see that?" "I can... And I'm sorry." "They look up to me, Poppy. And I've looked after them the best I could. You disappeared. You left us. We looked and we looked. And there was just nothing. No sign of you. Can you even tell me why?" "I had to leave. I had no choice." "That's not good enough. We've starved down here. We've been hunted. And now you're asking us to burn everything? All of us? We've made our life protecting these toys, and they've...saved us, in more ways than one. We..."
Someone else's voice then says: "Poppy, she needs you. Done what I could." "I...wish there were another way, Doey. But I just don't see it. We'll talk about this later." Eric wandered around the sewers, until he walked into a giant cave. "That door over there doesn't have any power. Looks like I need to move some minecarts to open the door," says Eric.
He then pulled some minecarts along the tracks, until he powered the door. He swung across a big hole in the floor and used the blue and red hand to open a door. But as the door opens, he sees that Yarnaby is on the other side of it. "Oh come on!" Eric ran away as fast as he could. He ran past some computer equipment and used a chain to swing across a pit of fire.
When he landed on the other side, Yarnaby ran and jumped after him. However, the metal chain had a hook on the end of it. The hook impaled Yanaby and he was was dangling over the pit of fire. He then caught on fire and he fell down the hole. "That was...unexpected," says Eric. He then walked into an elevator, after walking out of it he saw Doey looking at a blue pipe.
"Oh, it's you! Is The Doctor... No, don't suppose he is then... I've been here gathering parts for the generator. Lots of..." Suddenly, a freezing cold gas came out of the pipe and Doey was frozen in place. "Doey! Hang in there, I'll shut off the pipe!" Eric turned a valve and the gas stopped. Doey then defrosted and slowly stood next to a door.
"Thank goodness. Listen, stay safe and I'll deal with Doctor Sawyer," says Eric. He walked out of the door and made it back to the one that Yarnaby came out of. He then heard The Doctor say: "Ah, and here you are. Just as I expected. It appears you are every bit what The Prototype fears. And to think Playtime had someone of such quality, and never noticed. Funny. I can't say I remember seeing your face before. But I'm curious. Why come back? It can't be that a vague letter was your only reason. Was there someone you loved here? Someone you'd lost? Was it the pain of not knowing for sure that brought you here?"
Eric was thinking to himself as he walked into a room that looked like a morgue. He went to use the blue hand to open a door, but all of a sudden it was frozen to the panel by more gas. "What the hell? Where's this gas coming from?" says Eric. The room was then starting to fill with the gas. He felt like he was getting colder and colder.
"The experiments killed everyone, including whoever you came back for. You know that by now, yes? Poppy's sold you her story, of course. Innocence is bliss. And she is oh so innocent. Did she tell you her part in The Hour of Joy? That she knew it was coming? Or did she leave out that crucial detail? Yes, that wouldn't surprise me. Has she not strung you along, betrayed you, and told you only what you needed to know to do exactly as she asked? You've seen what they do to each other. All they want is violence. Look around, evidence for it is everywhere. Once they had choice, once they were "free", this was their creation. They've made hell real, and trapped us both there."
"Oh yeah? Well, you're not exactly innocent yourself, Doctor Sawyer," says Eric. He saw a control panel for the gas, it needed a blue hand but it currently frozen. He then saw a fake blue hand and grabbed it with the red one. He placed it on the panel and the gas stopped. The door opened and inside is a machine. There was a glass jar on top of it and inside of it is a pair of lungs.
"Ew! Whose lungs are these? Actually, if this is important to The Doctor, then I might as well squash them." Eric grabbed a green battery and attached it to the machine. Some electricity shocked the lungs and they exploded. A door in the morgue opened and Eric walked through it. "I must be getting closer to Doctor Sawyer. I hope Alex is ok back at the Safe Haven."
"You realize the futility of this, don't you? Meat rots and loses it's function, it's as replaceable as anything else. You're accomplishing nothing," says The Doctor. Eric walked into a small lab and found another machine with an organ in it. He attached a battery to it and it blew up as well. The Doctor cried out in pain shortly afterwards.
"Ah ha. It seems like I found out your weakness Doctor," says Eric. He walked out of the lab and used the purple hand to jump across some electrified water. However, as he went up in the air, the right hand of the Grab Pack became electrified and The Doctor laughed. "Seriously? I can't use or change my hands? Go fuck yourself Doctor Sawyer!"
Eric looked around and saw a hook that he could use to swing across the room. He used the blue hand to grab the hook, but as he was swinging across, the hook became electrified and Eric fell down into the room below. "Oh come on! What even is this bullshit?!" "Just like them. A blind, scurrying little rat. You think poor Yarnaby was my only pet? You know far less than you believe."
A door in the room opened and a black sheep toy walked into the room. "Baba Chops?" Eric ran around the room rerouting the power to a small room. He dodged Baba Chops and ran into the room. Inside the room was another machine, and inside the glass jar is a Smiling Critters toy. "Oh no. There's got to be a way to smash the glass," says Eric.
"Do you believe you're taking the moral high road? Is that what you believe? Dear friend, let me illuminate for you an obvious truth: survival necessitates choices. Difficult choices. This one is yours. If you want to leave this room, it'll come at a cost. It's this little life, or yours. You know what you have to do. Just the slightest pull, and you snuff whatever minuscule bit of life still flickers behind those faraway eyes. That brutish glob of clay would do it. Poppy would do it. It's your mission. The door will open. Or, is maintaining the veil of your "morality" more important? Act quickly."
Suddenly, a bunch of toys began to bash at the windows of the room. Eric was struggling to decide what to do. He then looked up and saw a hole in the roof. He used the blue hand to grab a hook and pulled himself up. He opened a vent and crawled through it. "Fine. Have it your way. Come on in. The Doctor will see you now." Eric walked onto an elevator and it started to go up.
"Do you hear it like I do? Off somewhere. Somewhere far. Beyond this place. Beyond any place. A bell. For whom does it toll, you think? A wounded little pup lifts its head beneath the shadow of the master's raised foot. For whom does that bell now toll?" The elevator reached the top and there was a hallway of TVs. "This must be it. The Doctor's lair," says Eric.
He walked past the TVs and opened a door. In the room in front of him was a giant machine. Inside a glass jar was a brain. "This is what's left of Doctor Sawyer? What the hell?" "Not even the ground beneath your feet." Suddenly, a metal endoskeleton with a TV for a head grabbed Eric and threw him into a hole in the floor.
He landed in a dark room full of computers. He then ran through a maze of computers and endoskeletons grabbing batteries and putting them into slots. "Elliot's machines are nothing to me. The childish fantasy of a naive, broken man. They won't serve you here. Nothing can. I'll bury myself so far down that no one will ever find me! Not you. Not The Prototype. Not anyone! It was going to be mine! It was all going to be mine! My discovery! My recognition! I was the one who paved the golden path!"
Eventually, Eric ran back up to the room with the giant machine. There was a computer in front of it. "This is for Alex, you sick bastard!" He pulled out a computer chip and the machine got electrocuted. The Doctor screams out in pain and his final words were: "You've...saved...no one." After the machine turned off, Eric walked into another room.
Inside the room was a smaller machine. He placed the computer chip into the machine and then he was able to place the red hand into it as well. After a minute, the red hand got upgraded and Eric placed it back onto the Grab Pack. "So this is the Omni Hand? Well, I've got to get back to the others and tell them the good news."
He left The Doctor's lair and took a gondola back to the Safe Haven. When he got back inside, he saw Alex talking to some of the other toys. "Alex?" She then gasped and turned around to see Eric. "Dad? Dad! You're ok!" They both hugged each other and Eric says: "Where's Poppy?" "She's other there. Kissy Missy's ok, by the way."
They walked over to Poppy and she says: "You, you have it! The Omni Hand! Then...we can do this. It's... You have no idea what this means! It's...it's everything! You've done what none of us ever could, given us hope. And believe me, down here, that's worth something. Take a minute to catch your breath. I'm sure the others would love to talk with you. Doey and I will be in the generator room whenever you're ready."
Eric and Alex talked to each about what happened to The Doctor. "I'm glad that he's dead now. I wish I was there to see it." "Trust me Alex, it was not a pleasant sight. Right, shall we go and see Poppy and Doey?" They both walked into the generator room and Poppy and Doey were waiting for them. "So, what's the plan now?" says Eric.
"Good. You're both here. Let's get started. Losing The Doctor, it'll have gotten The Prototype's attention. He'll be scared. He knows he's losing now, and the orphans are all he has. Now's the time to get to The Foundation. Make everything ready," says Poppy. "Look, we need to talk about this. We shouldn't..." Doey was interrupted by the lights turning off. "Just give it a second..."
Suddenly, the phone that Eric was carrying was ringing. "Ollie, you there? What's..." "He's outside!" "Ollie?" "He's outside!" "Who?! Who's... Oh no... You need to distract him, Doey! Please! Keep him away from here!" "Without the generator..." "I know. But he can't get in here. Not now. Just buy us some time. Eric, Alex, You'll have to fix the generator. Work quickly, you won't have a lot of time." "But I..." "Trust us, Doey. Trust me." "Just get the generator working... Please..."
Doey ran out of the room, Poppy then says: "I'll try to gather the others. Keep them safe. Ollie, if you can hear me, work with our friends here." "Aye aye, cap'n!" Poppy walked out of the room and looked at Eric and Alex. "You can do this." When the door closed, Ollie says: "You heard her. Now let's get to it. First you'll want to open the access panel on the generator. It's just a little door on the outside of the machine. Use the Omni Hand."
Eric uses the hand and the control panel opened. "Whenever you're ready, flip the breaker switch. But be aware, while it's down, so are Safe Haven's defences. Meaning whatever's out there has nothing keeping it there. We'll have to be quick." Eric and Alex looked at each other before pulling the switch.
"Grab an external resistor. Attach that to the capacitor bank." Alex picks up a round fuse and places it into the generator. "Good. Now, use the Omni Hand to override the generator's chipset protocol so we can yank out the busted surge protector." Eric scans the hand, Alex pulls out a square fuse and puts in a new one.
"It's done... We did it... Good..." Poppy enters the room and says: "You did it. I... "Thank you" isn't nearly enough. No word from Doey. Whatever happened out there... No...no, he's fine. I'm sure of it. We shouldn't wait anyway. Head for The Foundation. Plant the explosives. Meet back here after, we'll go over what comes next."
"Should I stay here again dad?" says Alex. "Nah. It should be safer now. Shall we?" Alex nods and they both walked out of the Safe Haven. They walked around the mines collecting the charges. They then walked into The Foundation and placed them onto the pipes. Eric turned on some valves and the Red Smoke travelled through the pipes.
After interacting with a console, there was an alarm and Eric says: "Ok, let's get out of here!" They ran out of The Foundation and ran into the mines. They both saw Doey and he says: "The Prototype... I lost track of him in the tunnels. Have you seen him? Was he at The Foundation? Or was he... What? What's going on, he's... I led him away, didn't I? The generation's fine, it's..."
Suddenly, there was a big explosion and Doey says: "Oh no..." He then ran away, Alex says: "Dad, what just blew up?" Eric thinks for a second, then he gasps and says: "The Safe Haven!" They both ran through the sewers and back into the Safe Haven. When they made it inside, the place was in ruins. The roof had collapsed and bodies of toys were everywhere.
"What the fuck happened?!" says Eric. "No...they can't be all dead. They can't be!" says Alex. They entered the main room and Doey was there. "I'm sorry... I'm so, so sorry. I failed you. I was never what any of you needed. I was only made to hurt things. My fault. My fault..." He then looked at Eric and Alex and started to get angry.
"Hurt. Everything hurts. Hurt back. Always hurt back. Parents. Scientists. Everyone. Have to... My friends. He killed my friends. You... It all started with you. You two and her. It was you who ruined everything! No. No, that's not true. They jumpstarted the generator. They... Destroyed everything! I'll kill you!"
Doey then hit a piece of debris and the roof fell on top of him. "Holy shit!" says Alex. "Playtime really messed around with him," says Eric. They approached the debris to see if Doey was still alive, and a pair of giant hands came out. The debris cleared away and Doey was huge, but he had multiple hands. "I think he's too far gone, run!"
Eric and Alex ran away from Doey as fast as they could. They ran up to the roof of the Safe Haven, Eric then says: "Hold on tight!" Alex holds onto him and he uses the Grab Pack to grab a zipline and they flew away from the angry Doey. They ran through the mines, until they reached a cavern with some mining equipment.
"Alex, I have an idea. Find a way out of here, I'll distract Doey." "Ok, be careful dad." Alex ran off to find a way out and Eric says: "Doey! I know you're out there! Come and get me!" The angry Doey appears and chases him around the cavern. Eric sees some containers of the freezing gas and has an idea.
He grabs one of the containers and throws it at Doey. His mouth was open and the container gets stuck in his mouth. Eric runs over to a crane with a circular saw at the end of it and says: "I'm over here! I'm the one you want!" Doey charges at him, Eric points the flare gun at him and says: "Smile you son of a bitch!"
He then fires a flare, it hits the container and explodes. Doey was frozen on the spot, Eric grabs the crane and lowers it onto him. The saw cuts up Doey and then he melts into a puddle. "I'm sorry Doey. But I'm going to make The Prototype pay for this. I promise." "Dad! Over here! I think I found a way out!" Eric looks up and sees Alex waving at him.
He climbs up to her and she says: "What happened to Doey?" "I...I didn't want to do it, but..." Alex knew what he was trying to say, so she placed a hand on his shoulder. "Hey, what happened was not our fault, it was The Prototype's fault. So, how about we get out of here and kill that prick?" Eric nods and they walked into a room with some containers and a tunnel boring machine. (A giant round drill.)
Eric was about to use the blue hand and the Omni Hand to open, but all of a sudden they got grabbed from behind. It turns out that Doey was still alive and he was still angry. "You! You and Poppy! It's all your fault! Want to kill you! Kill everyone who hurts me!" He then bumps into one of the containers and it starts to leak the freezing gas.
Eric pulls out the flare gun and shoots the gas. It freezes Doey and the giant drill turns on. He looks over at Alex and she nods at him. He starts to pull the drill down onto Doey, he realises what's happening and tries to push it away. "Can't trust anyone! The gentle voices lie! You lie! I tried to be better. To be who they needed. Not smart enough, not good enough. Not..."
The drill fully drops onto Doey and he screams out in pain. When it stops, he looks up at Eric and Alex and says: "I'm sorry. I'm sorry..." After he draws his last breath, Eric says: "So are we Doey. So are we." "You can finally rest now," says Alex. They both left the room and they heard someone's voice coming from an air vent.
"There's someone down there, let's go." Alex crawled into the vent and Eric says: "Hang on, wait for me!" He then follows her into the vent and they fall down into a dark room. Inside the room was Poppy and Kissy Missy. "Ollie! Ollie! Can you hear me?! Ollie?! You, what did you do?! Why did you kill Doey?! Do you even understand what happened?! The Prototype, he... Did you even plant the explosives?"
"Ok, first of all: Doey tried to kill us first, he was super angry about what happened. And secondly: Yes, we did plant the explosives. So what went wrong?" says Eric. Poppy continued to try to talk to Ollie using the phone. "Ollie! Ollie, answer me! Please..." Suddenly, the phone started to ring. "Ollie? Something's gone horribly wrong, the Safe Haven..."
"Shelf Ventilation block B6. Is this where you are, Poppy?" "What?" Ollie continued speaking, but then his voice started to change into different voices. "Stay where you are...and listen closely. You're not going to run. You're not going to fight. The charade is over." "Who... Who is this?" "An obvious question with an obvious answer."
"The Prototype," says Eric. "You... What did you do with Ollie?" "I'm right here, Poppy. For you, I'll always be here." "The Doctor. Cat Nap. Mommy and Huggy. They're all dead. You... You have nothing now. No one. And soon, you'll have less than that." "Stop that. You don't need to pretend anymore, Poppy. You don't need to play at being stronger than you are. You can come home."
"How... How much do you know?" "Everything." Poppy drops the phone and shakes her head. "This isn't right... All those years... Was there ever an Ollie?" "Yes, there was. But that was a very long time ago. Let me tell you what comes next. I'm going to come up there, and I'm going to find you. Your collaborators, the few you have left, they will be dealt with."
"What are you going to do with me?" "I've got something special in mind. I prepared it just for you. And this one, you'll never want to leave." "No. No no no. This entire time... This entire time, you've lied to me!" "Only because you've kept missing the point. I've taken the liberty of retrieving those explosives from The Foundation. Thanks for collecting those, by the way. I've put them to good use. I admit though, I'm disappointed. After all that time in your case, I'd hoped you'd see things differently. Don't you understand? It's always been about you and me, Poppy. What we are. That's not a truth that can be burnt away. No, not when it can mean so much more."
"Prototype, please..." "It's time to come home, Poppy. It's time to come home." Poppy started to panic, then she says: "I can't go back in that case. I can't... I'm sorry." She then ran into a small hole and disappeared. "Oh my god. Dad, I don't want to die!" says Alex. "You're not going to die Alex! I won't let you! Wait, what's that sound?" says Eric.
There was a beeping sound that was getting faster and faster. "Some friend, huh? Don't worry, I'll find her. As for you three...try to land on your feet." Kissy Missy then ran over and grabbed onto Eric and Alex. There was an explosion, Eric looked down and saw Alex holding onto his legs. "Dad?! I'm slipping!" "Just hold on Alex! Don't let go!"
He then looked up and saw Kissy Missy holding onto him. Unfortunately, she was holding on with her bad arm. There was some sounds of tearing and then her arm was torn clean off. Eric and Alex screamed as they fell down the hole. Kissy Missy could only watch as they disappeared into the darkness below.
Eric and Alex landed on some rocks below, but they survived. They both groaned as they slowly stood up. Eric realised he was still holding onto Kissy Missy's arm and dropped it. "How are we still alive?" says Alex. "I don't know. That was quite the fall. Fucking, "Ollie." I should have known that he was The Prototype! I should've never trusted him in the first place! Now where in the fuck are we?! We're still not even close to going home! This is my fault. Why did I think coming back here was a good idea? I'm such a dumbass! I'm a horrible dad! I'm so sorry Alex! I don't know if we're even going to make it out of here alive!"
Eric knelt down and cried out loud. Alex knelt next to him and says: "Listen, I know that we're in the unknown right now. I know that we got betrayed multiple times, but you can't give up now. Not when we've gotten this far. We're the only ones that actually have a chance to end this nightmare. Not just for us, but for everyone. You're not a horrible dad, you're the best dad I could ever ask for. I'm so glad you took me away from here all those years ago. I'm so glad that I had a proper life because of you. Well...nearly a proper life but still, you have me. And I'm never going to leave your side. So come on. Let's get a move on, ok?"
Eric wiped away some tears and stood up. "You're right, no one else is going to get a better chance like this. Let's get out of here." They walked through a tunnel, until they reached a door that opened on it's own. They walked down a hallway of Poppy flowers that were still growing whilst underground. "I think there were using Poppies to make the Red Smoke. But what's so special about them?" says Eric.
They walked into a room with a TV and a VHS tape. He places the tape into the tape player and a voice says: "Hi. My name is Leith Pierre, and I'm the Head of Innovation here at Playtime Co. If you're seeing this, you must be very, very lost. Well, rest assured friend, our state of the art laboratory is just up ahead. Why dontcha just go on inside and tap one of our scientists on the shoulder? Tell 'em you're lost, they'll be glad to help."
Suddenly, the door behind them closes and an alarm goes off. Leith Pierre laughs before saying: "Alright, alright. Let's be honest. You're not supposed to be here. This is the single most high security, high clearance section of the whole factory. When somebody finds you down here, you will be shot. And before you get any ideas, don't think you can just sneak away either. No, the second you put this tape in, it set off an alarm. So if anyone's home, they know exactly where you are. Pretty nifty, huh? Security is very important to us here. If I were you, I'd start running."
Eric and Alex ran around the room banging on the doors trying to open them. "These doors won't budge! We're trapped in here!" says Eric. Alex looked through a circular window and says: "Wait a second...dad! Come look! Someone's coming! I think it's Kissy Missy!" Eric looked through the window and says: "Holy shit, I think you're right! We're saved, once again!"
They watched as a familiar badly injured walked slowly towards them. However, as it got closer, they noticed that the figure was missing the opposite arm. Kissy Missy was missing her right arm and the figure was missing its left arm. "Wait...dad? Is that who I think it is?" "No... It can't be..." The room then started to fill with Red Smoke.
"Things are continuing to go downhill," says Eric. The figure outside then ran towards them and started to bang at the door. It was Huggy Wuggy. The Red Smoke filled the room and Eric and Alex fell asleep; unsure if they'll ever wake up again.
