A short time later, the ghostbusters Jeanie returned to the firehouse, from what was supposed to be a fun afternoon of ice skating, to one of their least successful and embarrassing assignments.
The team proved that not only trying to capture ghosts while on an ice-skating pond but also trying to catch ghosts while wearing ice-skates on street pavement proved to be no better either.
For while doing that, the four member ghostbusters ended up crashing into the tree.
After being treated for some minor injuries at the local emergency room, Jeanie drove the team home.
"Thanks for the lift to the clinic and getting us back to the firehouse Jeanie," said Winston, who had his left shoulder in a sling, the result of banging it into the tree's heavy trunk.
"We really appreciate it," added Ray, who was hobbling on crutches, courtesy of a twisted right knee.
You could've gone a bit slower on the speed bumps, but better than an average taxi ride," said Peter, placing his hand on his chest, from getting bruised ribs.
"I'll take it as a compliment Dr. Venkman, but the rest of you, you're very welcome fellas.
How are you all feeling?" Jeanie asked.
"I'll live," Peter replied.
"I'm doing alright," said Winston.
"Same here," added Ray.
I've had worse," answered Egon, who ended up getting face planted into the tree's truck, giving him some black and blue marks around the eyes , a slightly broken nose, and there was taping on the bridge.
Luckily, he had a feeling what was about to happen, as he took his glasses off, before the accident, hence why his vision wear was in one piece.
"Yeah, sorry about bumping you into the tree like that Spengler," said Peter, with a sheepish look on his face.
"No need to apologize Venkman.
"Well, despite our little run with a ghost, I think today's lessons on Christmas went well.
What do you say we pick up where we left off with another outing."
"You promised Dana you pick up some gifts for Oscar, but haven't gotten around to it?" Ray asked.
"Good guess."
"If you're going to Toys R Us, I'll come along with you.
Because Ray and I have volunteered to be Santa's helper's at the Children's hospital," said Winston.
"Thanks for reminding me Winston.
With everything going on I forgot.
You coming along Egon?" Ray asked.
"I'm actually going to pass Raymond.
As a matter of fact, I'm going to take a break from lessons in Christmas for the rest of the day.
Possibly the next year or two," said Egon, as he headed up to his lab.
"Yeah, you three go ahead, I have to catch up on some paperwork," said Jeanie, heading to her desk.
"Hop in guys, I'll drive," said Peter, who was the least injured of all four ghostbusters, climbed into the driver's seat.
"Just as long as you don't hit any fire hydrants, like you did the last time," said Winston, as he got into the backseat, while Ray sat shotgun up front.
Sometime later, Egon was still up in his lab, typing away on his computer, when he had a visitor.
It was Jeanie, carrying a tray.
"Hey, I hope I'm not bothering," she said to the ghostbuster.
Egon looked up from the screen and answered, "Not at all."
"How's your nose?"
"Not great, but I'll live."
"I thought you may need these."
Jeanie presented Egon the tray, which had a bottle of aspirin, and a glass of water.
"Thank you, this was just what I could use," said Egon, as he took a few pills out of the bottle ,and gulped them down with the water.
Any luck on your research?"
"I was able to discover who attacked us at Rocker Feller Center."
Egon pulled up a photo of a ghoulish looking man, wearing a dark colored three piece suit and a cane in his left hand.
"Victor Edwards
Born in England 1817 and died in 1837," he said.
"Only 21?
He looks older than he appears to be and looks no different from who we saw earlier," said Jeanie.
"Victor's entire family was killed in a house fire on Christmas Eve 1821, by a gas lamp accident.
His parents, brothers and sister perished, while 4 year old Victor was able to escape through a window.
But he suffered with second and third degree burns to his face and arms.
Since there were no other family members to take him in, after being treated at a local hospital, Victor was sent to live in an orphanage.
He was never adopted though, as no one had the heart or pity to take in a child with the injuries Victor endured from the fire.
A true loner, as the other children were frighten or mocked him for his appearance.
Victor lived at the orphanage, till the age of 17, when he was sent to a workhouse.
The only person who actually took care of Victor, giving him attention and kindness was Sister Angelica, a nun who had worked at the orphanage.
And while Sister Angelica wanted to adopt Victor, she wasn't able to, due to her beliefs and rules.
She then asked some neighbors of hers, an older couple who had no children to take Victor in.
While the couple gave Victor room, board and meals, in exchange to do chores for them, they were not compassion at all to him.
"They treated him like the kids did at the orphanage and the families who refuse to adopt him?" asked Jeanie.
"Very much yes.
On Christmas eve 1837, a fire broke out in the couple's home, killing them, while Victor miraculously survived.
Victor was blamed for the fire and was set to go on trial, when Sister Angelica, who at that time had retired working at the orphanage, declared Victor to be innocent and offered to take him in.
In mid December 1838, Victor was arrested once again, this time for attempting to kidnap a child.
When police went to Sister Angelica's house to see if Victor had kept any children imprisoned and to question her about the crime, they found her dead," Egon went on.
"What happened?"
Poisoned by arsenic mixed into some food that he prepared for her.
Apparently, Sister Angelica knew that Victor indeed killed the couple in the house fire and was going to report him to the police.
Following a brief trial, which he was found guilty of murder, not just of the couple but Sister Angelica as well, Victor was sentenced the death penalty and was beheaded in the town square on Christmas Eve.
Just before his death, Victor stated to the crowd, "Christmas is not about merriment, happiness and joy, but of darkness, greed and misery.
And I vow to put an end to it."
"That would explain why he was trying to destroy the Christmas tree, and scare off the ice-skaters," said Jeanie.
"Exactly."
The conversation between Jeanie and Egon was cut off but a voice on the small television set in the lab.
"We interrupt our local news for this breaking bulletin.
Chaos erupted just moments ago at the Toys R Us, located in lower Manhattan.
As you can see the scene, it's pure craziness outside the store, while it's hard to tell what's going on inside the store, as it's been closed," said the newscaster on the TV.
"Egon, that's where the guys went to go shopping," said Jeanie.
She took notice of a familiar object on the television screen.
It was the Ecto-1A mobil.
"I was right!
There's the car!"
"Raymond, Winston and Venkman are most likely inside the store.
We have to get down there," spoke Egon.
He and Jeanie dashed out of the lab, made their way downstairs, raced out of the firehouse and Egon hail a cab.
"Taxi!" he called out.
Within seconds, a yellow cab appeared before them.
"Driver, can you get us to the Toys R Us in lower Manhattan?" Jeanie asked, as she and Egon climbed into the taxi.
"You got it miss," said the cabbie, as he pulled away.
