Kodai made her towards the library once more to get some studying done. Yet as she made her way down, she couldn't help but recall what happened the last time she went there: the odd and welcoming encounter she had with Class 1A resident Izuku Midoriya.
Even if they didn't talk a whole lot the last time they met, she could admit that it was amusing to see the supposed powerhouse of Class A be such an awkward mess when he started muttering. A trait that she found oddly endearing in a way that she couldn't quite place yet. Garnering a small smile to appear at the thought of seeing that sight again.
Finally entering the library, she noticed that the room had fewer people than the last time she came. With ample seating scattered throughout the room as some students read their books and notes with content, even leaving some tables free and available for her to use.
Yet as she glanced at the layout of the room, the sight of Midoriya's green, messy locks came into view. The greenette huddled once again in some books as he took notes diligently, unaware of her presence at the entrance.
While she could sit on her own at another table to get her work done, the thought of being able to sit with the freckled teen once more was an opportunity that she just couldn't pass up. Making her way towards the greenette without hesitation, before finally arriving at the end of the table and calling up to him to get his attention.
"Hello again Midoriya."
She watched him jump slightly with wide eyes at the sound of her voice, but his expression eventually leveled out with a sheepish smile after seeing who arrived. The tension he held in his posture visibly disappeared as he eventually locked eyes with her.
"H-Hello again Kodai."
A small smile grew on her face at the returned greeting before her eyes shifted towards the empty spot across the greenette. Not wanting to impose on her fellow student as she looked back at him with a puzzled look on her soft features before asking her question.
"Do you mind if I sit here?"
Midoriya blinked at the question as he also glanced at the empty spot in front before looking back at the sudden arrival. A bit surprised that she wanted to sit with him when there were so many other seats available. Yet he couldn't help but feel a bit of joy in his heart that she decided that he was good enough company to warrant a second visit.
"O-Oh sure!" the greenette said with a bit of surprise in his voice as he shifted some papers on the table to give her more room. "By all means."
Kodai smiled at the invitation and started to spread her own notes on the table, doing so in a way that didn't take up much space to not bother the greenette in front of her. Getting started on her own project as she opens her notebook and reading material in front of her.
Yet Midoriya couldn't help but let his eyes linger on the several pieces of reading material on the table, wondering just what kind of topic the new arrival was working on seeing that she was from the adjacent heroics class and presumably doing a project like he was. Pursing his lips in hesitation for just a moment before finally building up the courage to ask.
"I-If you don't mind me asking, what exactly are you working on Kodai?"
The girl in question blinked at the sudden question before shifting her gaze from the book she was reading to him. Her deep blue eyes stared into his own silently for a moment with that familiar, blank expression he saw whenever they had first met. Making the freckled teen worry that he may have misjudged their reunion was nothing more than a coincidence. Yet his worries dissipated when Kodai gave off a small smile, looking over her notes briefly as she recalled the topic she was assigned.
"It's nothing too exciting," she admitted to him in a quiet and calm voice that was followed by a small shrug. "Just have to make a presentation on how heroes and businesses can merge with one another to make goods. Both as a business venture and to boost one's popularity."
Despite the nonchalant response, Midoriya couldn't help but perk up in excitement at the mentioned topic. Knowing a good deal about this topic due to his... enthusiastic nature when it comes to learning anything involving heroes.
Which he then put on in full display.
"Really? That's so cool!" the greenette gleefully stated with a large and eager smile much to the surprise of Kodai. "A lot of heroes made their debut using business and merchandise! Like for example, one of All Might's very first appearance had a special toy that was made when he first-"
Kodai watched in fascination as the green-haired teen in front of her described the various ways heroes interacted with business through their heroics. The awkward stutters that he demonstrated to her yesterday were nowhere to be seen as he provided numerous examples and descriptions of several heroes that made her want to look up to use for her projects. Yet the thing that caught her attention wasn't the amount of information he gave her or even the large smile on his face. Rather, it was something that most people took for granted:
His eyes.
Due to her quiet nature, Kodai was used to the ways people carried themselves through conversations. Everything from their posture when they sit or stand to the faces they make when talking. And while most things can be imitated, one thing that was nearly impossible to fake was the expressions in their eyes.
And Midoriya's eyes were the most expressive that she had ever seen, his excitement and passion in describing heroics was something she had never seen before in the greenette. His usual nervous expression and gestures had melted away as the emerald coloring of his eyes seemed to ignite with enthusiasm and excitement, drawing her in like a moth to a light. It made her briefly wonder why he doesn't demonstrate this kind of behavior more often.
Midoriya only seemed to notice the girl's silence when she didn't comment on the information he provided. His own excitement dwindled at the sight of her slightly awed expression as he realized that he went off on a tangent again.
"A-Ah, I'm sorry."
Kodai blinked as she refocused her attention back toward the greenette, who was now sheepishly smiling at her with a red hue growing again. The eagerness and confidence he demonstrated earlier were now gone as the usual nervousness reappeared once more.
"For what?" Kodai asked with a slight tilt of her head.
Midoriya twisted in his seat uncomfortably with a grimace as her cerulean-colored eyes seemed to bore into him, even if they were accompanied by a blank stare that he was growing more familiar with. Knowing that he was probably going to be teased about the way he went off at the mention of heroes, something that Kodai picked up on.
"You mean how you went off on a tangent?" Kodai asked with genuine curiosity as Midoriya answered with a reluctant nod at the answer. "I don't see what the big deal was. I think it was interesting seeing you describe the topic with such passion. I appreciate the information you gave me."
The freckled teen could only slightly gape at the answer from his newfound friend. The warm feeling he felt the last time they met had returned with a vengeance, making his cheeks grow red hue red at her observation. Yet he couldn't help but recall the compliment he received yesterday, wanting to know why she found his excitement so interesting.
"Last time you said that it was nice to listen to me. W-What exactly did you mean by that?"
Kodai paused at the sudden question as a small frown appeared on her face, looking at the table in such a way that it reminded Midoriya of a pout. A gesture that he found somewhat charming given the usual blank expression that he was usually given, but was unprepared when she finally looked him in the eye with a small smile.
"...I guess it was just nice hearing you out for a change," she admitted with a small shrug. "You were so nervous coming here to introduce yourself yesterday that hearing you speak about something so thoroughly was surprising. I've never seen it in any of my other classmates, so I guess it was just a nice change of pace."
Midoriya stared at her in with a bright face as he scratched the side of his head with an awkward laugh, unable to look the girl in the eye as his stomach continued to do flips. The feeling of warmth he felt inside earlier had magnified and spread to the rest of his face. The nervousness he felt about the girl's reaction to his age-old habit diminished as a new feeling took place. One that he couldn't quite pin the feeling of yet as he tried to get his thoughts in order.
Meanwhile, Kodai's bland expression shifted as she stared at his flustered expression. Her mouth twitched into a larger smile as she watched the greenette seemingly try to gather his thoughts together. The anxiousness and nerve-wracked teenager's reaction caused her to feel a bit of excitement of her own, as she found herself wanting to talk to her new acquaintance even more.
Though for now, she should try to bring him out of his embarrassment before he tried to ignite himself with his blushing and if they ever want to get the conversation going again. Sliding the notebook that she was using for notes across the table until it entered his field of vision, an act that the greenette noticed as he finally faced her with a startled expression.
"Um... you were saying something about how they started to get All Might into the toy industry," Kodai shyly reminded Midoriya as she brushed a stray hair behind her ear, "Can you go back to that part again?"
Midoriya saw the offer for what it was, an opportunity to get the attention off him and back towards their studies. An offer that he willingly accepted as he took a deep breath in an attempt to rid of some of the red on his face before clearing his throat and gesturing to a point in her notes where she had already started researching the topic and continued where he left off.
"A-As I was saying, a hero can have toys and goods already set in motion of their debut becomes popular enough to get a fanbase. Something that happened to All Might whenever he made his first appearance back in-"
Kodai took in all the information that was given as her eyes never left Midoriya's, seeing the fire that was buried within him come to life once more. Something that felt like only she had the privilege of seeing as she jotted down the occasional notes and asked her own questions. A gesture that the greenette took in stride as he slowly got accustomed to her behavior and interest while getting more in-depth in his explanation.
All while her deep cerulean-colored eyes meet his excited emerald ones, ignoring their surroundings and focusing entirely on each other.
"...And then All Might's Silver Age suit was finally in a figurine after so many years." Izuku finished off his rant with an eager smile.
"I bet you were waiting the moment they were announced to get your hands on one."
"A-Ah, well..."
Midoriya rubbed the back of his head with a sheepish grin as Kodai giggled at his expression, the small smile she wore while she did so stood out to him like a beacon. Making him feel a lot better about how this meeting was turning out than when it initially started. The two got back into the groove of studying after the awkward and stiff interactions they had before, bouncing topics and ideas to one another for their projects. Getting a feel for their mannerisms and gestures to really connect with one another.
Kodai saw how free and expressive the greenette can be whenever he wasn't constantly thinking about his actions. Being able to freely express himself with a large and beaming smile that seemed to make his eyes sparkle in excitement, a gesture that she found endearing given how anxious he was about talking to her for the first time.
The same could be said for Midoriya as well, who saw Kodai shift from the bland expression she usually wore into something more lively and carefree. The small little chuckles that escaped her mouth whenever she found something funny made her eyes stand out like the sun after a rainy day. Something that never failed to get a chuckle of his own out even if it was due to something he said, making him feel at ease.
Unfortunately for him though, all good things must come to an end.
"Ah, it's time for me to go."
Midoriya blinked when he glanced at the nearby clock that was in the room, surprised at how much time had passed once he started to talk to Kodai. Their conversations flowed so smoothly that he didn't even notice now that he was no longer restraining himself with anxiety and stress.
"So it is..." Midoriya said with a hint of discontent.
Kodai hummed in slight agreement at the sentiment and a slightly sad smile as grabbed her notebook, the feeling of disappointment growing between the two teens as they started to gather their things to make their way back to the dorms. Yet Midoriya paused as he managed to back the last reading material back into his hands, his eyes shifting towards Kodai and the table in they sat at during their stay.
He didn't really want it to end like this, not when they were having so much fun talking to one another. Not when he finally managed to get the courage to talk to her so freely, an act that usually took weeks to overcome whenever he met someone new. Not when he remembered the smile and giggle she gave off whenever he said something funny. Or the way she seemed to lean toward him with interest whenever he talked about his love for heroes and All Might.
So after a moment of hesitation, he pursed his lips and mustered up the last and remaining courage that he had inside of him to ask:
"Do...Do you want to meet up here again?"
Kodai paused and looked at the greenette with a hint of surprise, not expecting the sudden offer from him so soon. Yet her expression evened out as she turned towards him with a small smile that made Midoriya's heart skip a beat. The excitement that was demonstrated in her eyes captivated him for a moment as she eventually gave her answer after taking a quick moment to think about it.
"Sure, if you want."
The greenette's shoulders slumped in relief as a large smile of his own started to break out, unable to contain the joy and excitement he felt at the thought of being able to meet up with her again.
"Yes, I would."
For a moment, the two wordlessly stared at one another with growing smiles. Their hearts unknowingly beat in tandem as they traded phone numbers and made their way back to their dorm building together. Talking to each other the entire way before they eventually departed to their own dwellings with an extra pep in their step. Knowing for a fact that they will meet up once again soon.
