"Mara, have you seen the Easterman chart?"

Jamie knew that being promoted meant more responsibility, but it also meant more paperwork. He still loved bringing babies into the world and he didn't want to be one of those bosses who just sat on the sidelines and only came down during an emergency to help out. He would always put the women their babies first. Mara dug at the bottom of Jamie's chart pile and handed the Easterman chart to him.

"Right here Doctor Reagan."

Giving Mara a tired smile, Jamie sighed.

"Where would I be without you?"

Mara shook her head and patted the chart.

"Just keeping you on your toes doctor."

Jamie was about to answer Mara when he felt his phone buzz in his scrub pants pocket. Fishing it out, he looked at the caller id and answered.

"Aren't you supposed to be doing your schoolwork young lady? Wait slow down Cora. What happened? Is your mom ok? Where is she? She's where? On the floor in the bathroom? Can you ask her if she's having contractions? She's unconscious? Ok, Cora, I need you to listen to me carefully honey, do you see any blood on the floor? No. Ok. What I want you to do is turn her onto her left side. Can you do that for me? Ok. Good girl. Now I want you to hang up and call 911. Yes. Call 911. I'll be there soon alright?"

Jamie hurriedly hung up the phone and looked up at Mara.

"I gotta go."

Mara nodded and took the stack of charts from the table Jamie was sitting at. He had an office, but he still preferred the break room.

"Go be with Eddie. I'll put these in your office."

"Cora honey? Where are you?"

Jamie had arrived home in record time surprisingly since it was still early afternoon. Cora's voice came from the downstairs bathroom.

"In here daddy!"

Jamie hurried to the bathroom and found both Cora and Eddie. He took in the scene in front of him and tried his best to quell the pit forming in his stomach. He looked Cora in the eye and then knelt down next to Eddie.

"Ed honey, open your eyes and look at me. It's Jamie."

Cora went out into the hallway and began to pace; a trait she'd gotten from Jamie and didn't even realize she was doing. All while keeping his attention on Eddie, Jamie projected his voice out into the hallway.

"Cora, did your mom fall?"

Cora had tears in her eyes but was holding them back.

"I-I was sitting at my computer listening to my teacher when I heard a loud thud in the bathroom. I went over to the bathroom door and knocked. When she didn't answer, I turned the knob and I had to push really hard to open the door. She was laying up against it."

Jamie took his pen light from his pocket and examined Eddie's eyes.

"Good. Your eyes react to light. Not a concussion."

Eddie began to stir and Jamie ran a hand through her hair.

"Hey. There you are. You alright? What happened?"

It took a moment for Eddie to regain her bearings. Blinking slightly.

"There was some pain and then I was dizzy. I didn't see anything after that."

The pit in Jamie's stomach tightened more.

"Was it deep like when you were pregnant with Patrick?"

Eddie slowly shook her head.

"No. Is the baby ok?"

Jamie gave Eddie a sympathetic look and then glanced up at Cora.

"Cora, could you close the door and give us a moment please?"

Cora nodded and shut the door. Now that Jamie and Eddie were alone, Eddie gave him a worried looked and asked again.

"Is the baby ok?"

Jamie gently turned Eddie onto her back and placed some towels under her to prop her up.

"That's what I'm about to find out. Now I want you to relax. Let me know if anything hurts when I press down on your belly ok?"

Eddie winced and looked up at Jamie.

"Everything is sensitive anymore bub."

Jamie nodded and finished his exam.

"You probably lost consciousness because of the pain. Are you still feeling dizzy?"

Eddie shook her head but then tensed up and tried to tuck her legs under her.

"No. You're not going to check, are you?"

Jamie shook his head and ran a hand up and down her left arm.

"Not if I don't have to. You need to rest."

Eddie blinked and nodded.

"I felt the baby drop this morning."

Jamie felt a ghost of a smile appear on his face.

"You're getting close babe. Now I know you don't want to, but I think it's best if we get you to the hospital and checked out. It's just a precaution. I promise."

Eddie did her best and get comfortable in bed. She was so uncomfortable anymore that it was difficult to find a good spot on the bed. Jamie stirred next to her and opened his eyes.

"Can't get comfortable babe?"

Eddie nodded and she felt Jamie place one of his hands on her lower back and began to firmly but gently start massaging it. Letting out a sigh of satisfaction, Eddie closed her eyes.

"Right there bub. Keep it coming. I really want this baby out of me. I don't think she has much room to move around in there anymore."

Jamie listened intently, and then made his way into the conversation.

"I know how uncomfortable you are right now babe. Three more weeks, ok?"

Eddie rolled her eyes at Jamie.

"Can't they just induce labor? I'm so done!"

Jamie shook his head.

"Doesn't work like that babe. Induction can't be done unless absolutely necessary. This baby isn't in trouble. Just three more weeks babe. I promise."
