I do not own the Vampire Diaries
"What are you doing?" Damon asked, he had thought it would be different this time, he had thought that maybe he might have a chance but then she goes and walks away from him.
Elena turns around and looked at him knowing exactly what he meant but all she could say was, "What do you mean?"
"Well, this trip and you kissing me. What the hell is this?" Damon asked not knowing what to feel besides hurt, was she playing him?
"Stefan thinks that I have feelings for you." Elena admitted.
"Do you?" Damon asked although he knew what the answer would be, her eyes always gave her away.
"I- I don't – I don't know." Elena said shrugging her shoulders undecidedly.
"Hm. I guess you thought this little trip would help you figure that out, didn't you?" Damon's anger began to simmer beneath the surface. He loved her, for God's sake, and to learn that the kiss was just a way to test a theory felt like a dagger to his heart. It had raised so many hopes inside him, only for them to be crushed at her indecision, leaving him feeling foolish for daring to hope in the first place.
"No," Elena responded, but Damon pressed on, his frustration mounting.
"Or maybe you were hoping I'd screw it up so you wouldn't have to decide at all. Am I wrong?" he demanded, a glare in his eyes. Didn't she realize how much it hurt him to see her with his brother? Now, when she was finally free and there was a chance for them, she was still so unsure. Did she understand the strength it took for him to love again, especially someone who looked just like the woman who had betrayed him? Didn't she see how deeply he loved her?
"Damon..." Elena started, but he interrupted her.
"Am I wrong?" he pressed, his voice edged with desperation.
"It's what you do, Damon. You sabotage things, you...I mean, think about it, every time there's a bump in the road, you lash out." Elena said with a break in her voice, she didn't want to lose either of them, they both held a special place inside of her and she couldn't let them go because what if she chooses Damon and as she just said, he lashes out and something happens that would break them apart, then she can't go back to Stefan, and it was the same the other way round so how could she let one of them go?
"What if I didn't? What if there was no bump?" Damon asked hopefully as he stepped closer to her. He looked into Elena's eyes for a moment but the weight of her silence and the uncertainty in her gaze crushed him. It became painfully clear: no matter what he did, it still wouldn't be enough. His expression hardened as he said, "I'm sorry, Elena. This time, I won't make it easy for you. You'll have to figure this out for yourself."
Elena's heart sank at his words, but just as he turned to leave, a blinding flash of light filled the space around them, and suddenly, their worlds turned black. The same strange phenomenon occurred with Jeremy, who sat in his car, boredom weighing heavily on him.
Meanwhile, Kol, who had just moments ago beaten Damon in a fit of rage, found himself caught in the same darkness enveloping them all.
In the parlor, Klaus was pouring himself a drink in the parlour where Stefan was when Rebekah dragged Alaric up from the basement. Just as Klaus opened his mouth to speak, the glass slipped from his fingers, shattering on the floor as a bright light flashed before them, plunging them into darkness.
Tyler turned away from Caroline, searching for a place to sleep when she called after him, clutching a picture in her hand. Before he could respond, the blinding light flashed, swallowing them into darkness along with the others.
The remaining members of the Scooby Gang and the Mikaelson siblings—all those who were still alive—saw a bright light flash before their eyes, and then their world turned black.
