Chapter Text

12/11/1996.

Monday.

In the dark and mysterious laboratory of Hogwarts, Severus Snape and Hermione Granger stood side by side making a potion. In the corners of the room were shelves filled with magical herbs and bottles of various potions. Snape was writing a few notes on the table about the potion he had not started yet. Hermione was arranging the materials in front of her.

Hermione normally didn't want to come here after yesterday's incident, but she decided to go because she didn't want to look like a coward in his eyes.

And no one would know the fact that she was dying to come here.

"Today's potion is a balancing potion." Severus said, his voice low and deep. "Each component must be chosen with care. Even the smallest mistake can disrupt the entire balance."

Hermione nodded slightly. "I understand, Professor Snape. We need to chop the mandragora roots first, right?" she asked.

"Yes, but be careful." His eyes softened slightly as he watched Hermione do her job.

Taking the sharp knife, Hermione began to carefully collect the roots. While Snape was preparing the components, he was also watching Hermione's meticulous work.

The silence between them was full of tension and peace.

What happened yesterday was still fresh.

"You chopped it right." said Snape as he locked eyes with her for a moment. "Now mix these with water." When Hermione threw the mandragora roots into the water, there was a soft hissing sound in the room. Shortly after, a blue vapor began to rise. Snape watched the mixture carefully. "Now add dragon blood."

Hermione immediately added dragon blood to the mixture. The color suddenly changed to a deep shade of green. "Is it ok?"

"You did great." whispered Snape, the admiration evident in his voice.

Hermione involuntarily blushed slightly at the praise. It felt weird to still receive praise from his. Little did they know, the peace of mind of working together was strengthening the bond between the two of them.

"Do I need help with the final step?" asked Hermione.

"No, you can do it alone." he said and began to turn his eyes to the potion. "I want you to prepare this." While Hermione was stirring the mixture without it falling apart, Snape took a step closer to her. "Be careful with this, you also need to have confidence. Potion making is an art."

When Hermione turned her head, their eyes met for a moment. She felt the depth in his gaze; here she found not only a teacher but also an ally. I wish it wasn't just these two.

"Now stir some more." said Snape in a low tone.

She stirred the potion a few more times and finally turned off the fire. "Should I leave it to rest?"

"Just a few minutes."

As the potion was left to rest, Hermione continued to watch intently. A few minutes later she began bottling the potion.

Severus took one of the vials and examined it. "Congratulations Miss Granger, this exceeds my expectations. 10 points to Gryffindor."

Hermione couldn't help but smile happily, she was so proud. "Thank you. I enjoyed making this potion with you."

"So am I..." he said in a low tone.

Both of their eyes locked with each other, shining for a moment. They both stood in the peaceful atmosphere of the laboratory, feeling the warmth of being in each other's company.

At that moment, they both felt that the bond between them was strengthening in the darkness of the laboratory.

Snape finally came to his senses and looked away. He wanted to look into her eyes longer, but he couldn't do that. "We can work on more complex potions together."

Hermione was excited to hear this suggestion. Doing this was a perfect opportunity for potions lessons, but most importantly, she would spend more time with him. "Really? What potions are we going to try?"

"I haven't fully decided yet, but I thought one of them would be a love potion."

She was surprised. "Really? But I know it's forbidden."

"Yes, it is. But it will be just the two of us here." he said and looked at her sarcastically for a moment. "Are you going to report me, Miss Granger?"

Hermione laughed involuntarily. "No."

"I think this is a mistake." he said while winking.

She looked away as she felt blood rush to her cheeks. "So when do we do it?"

"Not today." he said as he collected himself. He hesitated for a moment. "You can come on Friday if you want."

Hermione was happy, but also disappointed. There was still a long time until Friday. "Ok." she said and paused. "So the potion is finished?"

"Yes." He didn't want it to end, but it did. "Your friends will be curious."

It was true. Her friends were curious, but she could convince them by saying she went to the library. Still she didn't say anything. "Okay, good evening Professor."

"Good evening, Miss Granger."

She grabbed her bag, left the laboratory and walked towards the office door. She grabbed the door handle but it didn't open. Sighing, she turned around and looked at Severus, who was standing nearby. "Professor?"

She experienced this moment once again, and an involuntary excitement arose within her.

Severus had known since yesterday that he had to restrain himself. Somehow he succeeded. But still, here he was. He was standing in front of her. "Come on Friday, okay?"

She nodded softly. "Okay, I'll come."

His palms were literally itching to touch her. Finally, he couldn't stand it anymore and he raised his hand and took the strand of hair that fell next to her face between his fingers.

Hermione's heart was pounding in her chest. "Professor?" she said quietly.

He took a step closer and was running her hair between his fingers while looking into her eyes. "Don't go alone."

She blinked a few times. "Come with me then."

Severus bent his head and pressed his nose into the hair that started on her forehead. He inhaled her coconut scent. "I will come."

Hermione felt like she was dying of excitement. She closed her eyes softly. "What are you doing?" she asked quietly.

"I don't know." He finally pulled away, but there was still a small distance between them. He looked into her closed almond eyes. "Shall we go?"

She opened her eyes and looked into his black eyes. "Let's go."

Knowing that they would never be able to leave if they continued to stand like this, Severus finally stepped back and with difficulty removed his hand from her hair. He opened the locked door and motioned with his hand for her to go ahead.

Hermione smiled at the kind gesture and led the way out of the office. When Severus came out, they started walking through the dungeons together. Meanwhile, Severus took out his wand and tapped her on the head, casting a disappointment spell. "You'd better not be seen."

She didn't answer and they walked in silence to the entrance of the Gryffindor common room. When they came face to face, the spell of disappointment was lifted.

They looked into each other's eyes. "Good night, Professor."

He looked into her eyes for a long time. "Good night, Miss Granger."

Hermione barely looked away and gave the Fat woman the password and entered the opened door. Her heart was beating fast with excitement as she went to the girls' dormitory.

It was a beautiful moment.

And she was wondering what would happen on Friday.
